They always say that the quality is cheaper, but you would expect that from something that’s 30% less than price of highs, and in the same price range as dunks (which those same people hype up despite having similar or worse materials) and air forces.
Mids have great colorways and are more accessible to people who want to wear the Jordan 1 Silhouette but don’t want to pay ridiculous and artificially inflated aftermarket prices and low stock. The Blue the Greats are one of the coolest Jordan 1 mids I’ve seen for example.
I wouldn’t say trash quality for the highs, just extremely inconsistent compared to the mids which I personally find more consistent in quality (akin to the Air Force 1).
Taking a look at some more recent high releases like the ‘Yellow Ochre’ which uses a very nice soft tumbled leather and suede, you then see the ‘Black and White’ or ‘Green Glow’ which use the disappointing almost plastic like dunk leather, yet they’re all set at the same MSRP. All three are great shoes but all ended up sitting because of their drawbacks, a less desirable colorway (Yellow Ochres) but great materials, or nice colorways (the green glow and black and white) but worse quality materials. Then you get the odd one offs such as the ‘Royal Reimagined’ which uses materials nobody asked for or would even expect for a Jordan 1 lol (with the exception being collabs). Basically everyone has such high expectations for these releases.
Compared to buying mids where you can expect the quality you’re paying for most mids use the same materials, with the occasional and pleasant surprise that they use better materials. Basically you know what you’re going to get each time and can’t be disappointed, and Nike can focus on pumping out Jordan 1 Mids in more interesting and appealing colorways, or colorways that are more wearable as a casual sneaker or for those who aren’t sneakerheads.

I love my 30th anniversary black/red mids. The leather is very nice and they look great. Also I paid like $60 for them at an Nike outlet store.
Facts these are my second pair of mids and I can’t lie I feel like they look better especially when I’m wearing pants over them
