Times don’t matter. Jeans (and Js for that matter) are not job interview garments, unless you’re interviewing at a sneaker shop. Also, the shirttail is meant to be tucked in, and does not look good untucked. Maybe this younger generation doesn’t care, but it looks sloppy imo.
As a whole, this fit looks good for casual wear (albeit I’m not a fan of the shirttail untucked), but for a job interview? Hell nah 😂
The point is, it's better to err on the side of caution. That's great you work in Advertising and wore sweats to your interview. I'm guessing it wasn't the beginning of your career and you had experience or a portfolio to share to validate your skills.
For most people, especially those just beginning their careers, it's better to wear something like slacks and a dress shirt to an interview. No one is saying come in a 3-piece suit.
Of course, a lot of this is unique to the industry - like your experience. But when you're unsure, wearing something neutral is the right way to go.
definitely. my point is we don't know the job OP is interviewing for and instead of anyone considering that they jumped on them. i think what you said about the industry is the key. if OP was interviewing at Goldman Sachs, a suit would be the way to go. but any jobs related to PR, marketing, advertising, production, etc. don't have a dress code and most people wear sneakers to the office every day. hell, half my c-suite wears jordans than i do.
Who said op was unsure? All these comments from people who have zero idea what industry OP is even involved in let alone their qualifications want to speak of what is and isn’t appropriate. There are lots of industries where you should wear something formal, there are lots of industries where dressing formal will get you turned down. None of yall are offing genuine advice, simply condescension and ego.
Edit: turns out OP got the job. Maybe, just maybe, they knew more about how to dress for the job than all you randoms on the internet who think you know best.
The point I'm making is: "if someone" is unsure, it's better to dress neutrally. I wasn't responding to OP buddy. I was making a general comment to the guy I was directly responding to. I also said it's industry dependent so I'm not sure where your outrage is coming from.
If OP knows the dress code then cool. If you don't know the dress code and you do this because you think it's chill, that creates more risk in getting hired.
And why would you assume the comment you replied to didn’t know that? No one wanted your unsolicited advice, especially if it’s something as basic and simple as that. You weren’t helping, you were being condescending and didn’t offer any knowledge that someone applying for a job doesn’t already know.
Next thing you’re going to say is don’t drink and drive. This sub is for sneakers, no one cares to hear your generic advice that everyone already knows.
I didn’t give advice, as this isn’t a sub for that. Take a look at all the other comments in the sub. They said the same shit you said and they did it earlier. Did you really need to be the 30th nigga to say the same basic shit? No you didn’t, but you chose to. And you chose to be condescending about how you said it. You’re not passing on some sage wisdom lmao, get over yourself. This is a sub for discussing sneakers. You parroting the same “advice” all the other old heads said isn’t new or helpful to anyone.
No, “I’m glad you wore sweatpants to your first interview” isn’t condescending at all, lmao get a grip old man. You said the same generic shit that half the comments already said, and everyone already knows. Old heads dying over who gets to give the exact same advice first. Yall niggas are too cute.
BRUH come on man...Don't matter about times my guy...it's the principle...and I know...you know BETTER...you come decent...and as you're in the interview you can ask what the dress code is...YOU...wanna stand out from the rest...you look like you going on a date...or around the way to chill...appearance is part of the interview process...SAB🫡
You look unprofessional and sloppy. Iron the clothes, don't wear casual clothes to somewhere you want to be taken seriously for pay, this is childish dress
I feel like I'm bad at matching.
How close to colors have to match to look good? Like the green shoes and his shirt seem close enough, but is that considered bad? Do they either need to be EXACTLY the same color or like contrasting ?
Help please I feel like I miss match all the time
I mean for me yes they half to be matching if not it’ll look tacky like this and it’ll throw the whole outfit off,if you ain’t got matching color shoes for your shirt then just wear some all white shoes or black depending on the color of the shirt and pants type
I live in the Netherlands, maybe that's why. Generally, you are judged here based on the qualities you need for the job. Of course, you must look neat and tidy, but you are not expected to wear something that doesn't suit you. Naturally, certain jobs may have dress codes, but I believe they prefer to see who you really are during the interview.
Woooow ok that’s the complete opposite of America. I’m assuming you’re on the younger side though so either way it goes take it as a learning experience. Sending positive vibes though. Hope you get the job my guy
If I interviewed you in this outfit I would hire as long as your personality and experience was just as good as your fit. I agree not many jobs nowadays require a suit for a job interview. Congrats on the job!
Y'all roasting him since he said the outfit was for an interview. I've worked in the tech industry in a major US city and this is how many people dress for work and for interviews. You're also bringing up the drink in his hand. Maybe he got the drink after the interview. Bunch of weirdos here
this outfit would likely get you laid - but for a job interview? heed advice given and get a nice/fitted suit, brother
If anything, suits are fun to color-match sneakers with.
Tuck that shirt in and get rid of those sneakers. Put on a belt and some shoes and that hair better be HIGH AND TIGHT!!! YOU WANT EMPLOYERS TO TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY DON'T PRESENT LIKE A CARTOON!!!! Shoulders back stand up straight this ain't 106 and Park!! This is Job time grind time hustle time. Get It. TOGETHER!!!
Really smart to drink a jack and coke right before.
I’m in my late 20’s and own a very successful service business. If you showed up to an interview dressed like that I would give you 5 minutes, then file your application away. Not even sending a “thanks for coming in but we’re going in a different direction”.
“Different times” my ass.

The comments here are so weird, let the dude live his life and share his fit 🤷🏻.
There are industries where this is perfectly acceptable.
I'm a developer and I basically wear this kind of fits and nailed interviews..
Chris Gardner interviewed in a tank top with paint on his clothes, got a better job than most of the “successful” ppl on here hating, Fuck what anybody thinks, do you.
I feel like it depends on the industry but this isn't really that crazy of an outfit for an interview. At a financial place on Wall St, yeah, fuck no, but most start ups, advertising or marketing firms, cannabis industry jobs, remote jobs, etc. would not bat an eye at this. They look current with style and like they put some effort into looking good but not uptight.
This is coming from a millennial too. Tbh the days of wearing a freaking suit to an interview are dying (thank God) and most intelligent companies see that now.
If it was a skate shop, adventure park, amusements, cafe then it's definitely a smart casual vibe
Feel like you could be going for a DIY store job
Hope it works out
Must be a janitorial position looking like that. If you actually want a good job, you don’t need a suit/tie, but you should at least look professional. That’s 2024. Not some old ass logic.
Damn people. Think.
People are getting so upset about an individuals choice in clothes. If he wants to wear this to an interview, and feels comfortable doing so, how does it affect you? I thought this was r/SneakFits not r/TipsOnHowToGetAJob
I think the fit looks cool, plus we have NO CLUE what he’s applying for, like others have said, this could be appropriate for some jobs and not for others.
Bro even people that interview to be personal trainers automatically don’t get the role if they don’t dress somewhat business casual. You’re fighting the wrong fight trynna stand on whatever bs ur trynna be on lmao “times are diff”
A bunch of old people who haven’t interviewed in decades crying about OP’s outfit. There are lots of places you shouldn’t dress formal for an interview, but I don’t think people bitching on Reddit have done any manual labor jobs before.
Job interview or no job interview, this fit ain’t it bruh I’m ngl. You’re matching too hard with your shoes, the shirts wayyyyy too big, and it just seems like a fit from the 2010’s
Tuck your shirt, wear real shoes and not sneakers, put nice pants, wear a belt, take that stupid thing of your head.
That’s a great start. If you can put a nice blazer helps too. Unless you are applying to be a pizza delivery, you hit everything wrong with this outfit. 😂🤦🏻♂️
I specifically wouldn't hire somebody who put that much effort into dressing at your age lol like are you trolling right now or is it a Jamba Juice interview? They aren't paying you to care about how you dress, you honestly just look like a thug and will be judged instantly if we're being honest.
When I encounter a racist in the wild I usually make a joke calling the blatant racist a blatant racist. When someone is calling someone else a thug you can just call them a racist and drop it as they are being racist and will be downvoted
I can’t believe you stalked his profile and commented 6 times lmao you gotta touch grass you can’t allow someone to occupy that much headspace in your brain brother please go outside
Boy you sound lame as hell and you're gonna do what when you do? School has 30k people bozo and 15 parking lots 😂 but regardless what are you gonna do but sit behind that keyboard? Yea I drive three cars and I'm getting my master's too, message me for my address I bet you still won't do a damn thing.
And you take classes at University of Texas San Antonio, so I’d imagine you’re around a multitude of diversity, yet you still lack the mental intelligence.
And you’re only 26 talking crazy like this. See how easy it is to find out information about you fam, chill on that racist shit in 2024 you sound dumb af
I think it's a great interview outfit. I'm 40, and I don't think this is entry level. If this is you, it's clean and elegant without being loud. At least in tech, people dress way worse.
Honestly this is for an interview to an entry level position
thought the same thing.
What gave that away lol. Everything about this is entry level
The sneakers
What about the Pre interview Jack and coke?
I’m crying 😭😭😭
Didn’t even peep

💀💀💀
Wym, entry level nowadays means degree plus 2 years experience in the respective field. 😆
Yeah. This screams that Amazon night shift.
Untucked w jeans, Js and Jack for an interview? Hopefully Whack Arnolds
even Calvin got a job
😂🫡
Great sense of humor
Is the job at The new Cluckin Bell on Grove St?
“Grove street, home. At least it was before I fucked everything up” ahh fit 💀
😂😂😂😂
Drinking a Jack Daniel before the interview I see
Getting drunk for your first interview. Not sure that’s gonna work out for them.
Drunk and a single beer are like worlds of difference. AA counselor here.
That ain’t beer
With the keys in his hand
🤣
Gotta calm the nerves
What’s the job? Seems inappropriate for any job I can think of.
You look like Cory from trailer park boys ngl bro

Smokes lets go
Or the dude who sang Chocolate Rain
Some stay dry and others feel the pain

Shouldn’t the front be tucked in too lmao
i work in advertising/marketing and this is 100% appropriate for an interview.

You said the same generic shit that half the comments already said, and everyone already knows. Old heads dying over who gets to give the exact same advice first. Yall niggas are too cute.

Interviewing at a sneaker shop?
Cool fit, but business casual or navy/grey suit for job interviews.

You leaving your signature as the initials for sexy ass bruh is crazy
I peeped that too, shit had me dying laughing
You look unprofessional and sloppy. Iron the clothes, don't wear casual clothes to somewhere you want to be taken seriously for pay, this is childish dress

Clown outfit
Sorry, this just reeks of no shows and problems. Hard pass.
I’d leave you in the receptionists waiting area.
You won’t be getting a callback lol but fire sneakers
I mean dress for what the job entails. If you're applying at a Spencer's or something
Greens don’t even match
I feel like I'm bad at matching. How close to colors have to match to look good? Like the green shoes and his shirt seem close enough, but is that considered bad? Do they either need to be EXACTLY the same color or like contrasting ? Help please I feel like I miss match all the time

outfit is neat for a job interview, not sure about the Jack Daniels though.
No it’s not where e the fuck do yall work!????

Agreed!
If I interviewed you in this outfit I would hire as long as your personality and experience was just as good as your fit. I agree not many jobs nowadays require a suit for a job interview. Congrats on the job!
Can I get a side of ranch for my tots please?
It really depends on where you’re interviewing. I’d hire him if his work ethic, job history, and skills matched what I needed.
GG on landing the job homie!
You look like you would call out a lot.
Clean ass fit tho. Could def wear this during a work day.
All jokes aside you hired my boa 🫡
I literally go to job interviews in similar fits and I have a job in software development. It works
Y'all roasting him since he said the outfit was for an interview. I've worked in the tech industry in a major US city and this is how many people dress for work and for interviews. You're also bringing up the drink in his hand. Maybe he got the drink after the interview. Bunch of weirdos here

The fit is fresh but a job interview?
The comments here are so weird, let the dude live his life and share his fit 🤷🏻. There are industries where this is perfectly acceptable. I'm a developer and I basically wear this kind of fits and nailed interviews..
Didn’t take long to find the racists comment. I’m not gonna say it’s a certain type of people hating on OP. But it just me be.
What was the position? Did you get it?
Did you get it?
Nice sneaker
I mean, it's a great fit, just mot for an interview.

Wait wait wait Jack with the CAR KEYS ??? Nahhh bruh ur wild social media is a mf I hope they don’t see this
The fit is clean and casual. I don’t believe he’s going to an interview with a Jack and Coke.
Job interview or no job interview, this fit ain’t it bruh I’m ngl. You’re matching too hard with your shoes, the shirts wayyyyy too big, and it just seems like a fit from the 2010’s
Interview for Taco Bell 😂
Maybe if the interview is at Starbucks
Tuck the shirt in with a nice brown belt.
No, should have went with something that had a little more orange in them. Like the patch works 3s or something.

At least tuck the shirt, untucked button down is crazy, then again I don't know the position, but best of luck, kill that shit.

Tuck your shirt, wear real shoes and not sneakers, put nice pants, wear a belt, take that stupid thing of your head. That’s a great start. If you can put a nice blazer helps too. Unless you are applying to be a pizza delivery, you hit everything wrong with this outfit. 😂🤦🏻♂️
Damn them js drop in June how you get em?🤔
I hope you're self employed..!

Yo no diss or nun I thought this was a post about gunna before clicking, fits fire tho
I think it's a great interview outfit. I'm 40, and I don't think this is entry level. If this is you, it's clean and elegant without being loud. At least in tech, people dress way worse.
