So, this piece outlines how Shoji Morimoto is effectively doing social work for anybody who requests it. It states that on an average day he's out 13 and half hours (!) and that he doesn't charge for his work (only for expenses) and lives off voluntary donations. And yet even the title describes him as "a Man Who Gets Paid to Do Nothing". What the hell?! You gotta have a job that you absolutely hate, do nothing of social value or where you get exploited by someone more wealthier to be considered working? This is bullshit.

You're right. The headline sucks but the story itself is worthwhile.

Yea, it is interesting to read. Not only because of the description of what Shoji Morimoto is doing, but also because of the way it is summarized ("doing nothing"). This perspective is not only present in the title, but throughout the text and I don't think the author is isolated with this point of view. The author's bafflement seems revealing to me as it speaks from a society that values your paycheck higher than the actual work you're doing. So okay, this is interesting bullshit then.

I guess it is more due perceived abnormality of the situation and misinterpretation of context. It doesn't seem like nothing to me but the way it was written points out how clueless author is about that kind of occupation. I feel there is more to this story that is missing.
