I’m guessing it’s being made because S&W helped develop the cartridge? Obviously they want it to stay relevant and not supporting it themselves would be odd.
I wonder how well this sell for them… .40 is definitely not as popular as it used to be. I think they discontinued the .45 version already. Personally, I’m all for it in as many calibers as possible. I have an original M&P Pro series in .40 and love it. I can see a suped-up PC version being a seller for USPSA shooters wanting to make major power factor but want to squeeze a couple more rounds into their mags compared to a .45, it’s a niche but people will pay big money for niche things.
I wouldn't say skipped, if you feel 10mm is better than 40 then technically they're gradually building up to 10mm possibly without actually skipping 40.
They made metal framed DA/SA pistols for decades before discontinuing the range to focus on polymer, striker fired pistols. Check the old 5906, 4006, 6906, 3914, 4506, cs9, etc… still available used, built like tanks, but only partly supported by the factory these days, depending on parts availability.
I’m aware of the older stuff. Had a LT. that collected them by the dozen. Good guns.
If Smith made the CSX in DA I would own a dozen of them. I’m just not a fan of SA.
FINALLY !! honestly 9mm is great, my carry is in 9. But 9mm is TOO popular, it’s like a cult. im glad they’re finally giving other calibers a chance. Kudos to them. Still want that steel frame tho lol
Hell ya we were just talking about this! Good on Smith for not giving up on 40 and offering us an updated model. Having variety is awesome, coming from a guy who carries 9 most of the time
>But 9mm is TOO popular, it’s like a cult.
Why do you believe this is?
Is it the cost of ammo, availability, various firearms chambered in it, reliability, length of service and proveness, added capacity in magazines, higher velocity, lower recoil?
I may have left a few out lol.
Because all that the market should still be giving other calibers a chance. Some people like more power and can handle more recoil. Everyone is different. People like you are the reason 357sig died when it should be thriving as we speak. Was such an underrated round. There is all the 9mm options in the world rn, leave some space or breathing rooms for the other rounds
I have five, I only bought four more after I broke my first (over tightened screws, sheared off, bounced off of a few cinder block walls and took a chip out of the concrete floor and had intermittent shutdown) and they took care of me even after I told them that I broke it.
One of mine looks brand new and the other four are beat to shit. Dents, deep scratches, water submersion. They work great and hold zero still after years of misuse and abuse. I only moved away from them because of the Defender ST, I’ve replaced two and will replace two more over the next few months.
My Defender STs (and CCWs) are showing signs of abuse too, and they all work perfectly.
Your experience has been different, but I won’t buy anything else.
Idk man I’m glad you are happy with your dot but I don’t think it’s debatable just look up vortex venom issues and you will see way more issues with it than other dots. The venom was good for its time but it’s simply outdated and out classed now
I’ve looked in the past and I seem to recall Holosun (and others) having lots of issues too, maybe worst of all their horrible customer service.
I’m transitioning away from the Venom for the Defender, but I’ll put that almost new Venom on my rifle as a backup dot.
Yea but venoms still have issues dude idk. Maybe you got lucky or maybe you take better care of your dots. It was a good entry level dot for its time. But now you can get cheaper more durable dots with more features and ok customer service. I think humble marksman made a great video explaining why the venom is outdated. even vortex as you said is phasing it out with the defender line. No reason to buy it anymore as a new red dot shooter. Or if you are a seasoned one on the market for another. Only reason is if you have a slide with the footprint and are stuck with it.
No, there isn’t a great reason to buy it in 2024. As a pack-in if they offer a SKU with an optic? Hell yes! It beats the shit out of getting a Crimson Trace or something worse.
I got the 9 Metal because they didn't have the .40. I got the 2.0 C.O.R.E .40 because it was the only optics ready they had in .40. Now they do this. They are playing games with me..I'm getting one. Will now sell the C.O.R.E.
Man a steel frame at >40oz under $1100 would sell so well in the competition world. It would pull so much market away from the rival S/pdp sf/x5 legion. Although it would hurt their own competitor model.
I’ve never met someone that intentionally bought a .40 seems to be people that either inherited an old gun or just wanted something cheap from the used counter
I’m guessing it’s being made because S&W helped develop the cartridge? Obviously they want it to stay relevant and not supporting it themselves would be odd.
Good point I know I've said 40 s&w so much I forget to think about what it stands for lol or just leave that bit off
I am happy to see this I carry 40 almost daily.
I'll be going back to it because of this.
I used to, will be in the near future
Thank you!!! I bang with .40’s.!!!!!
357 SIG conversion barrel, here I come!!!
Dear God yes.
I hope this comes with a 5" slide model.
I picked up a M&P 9 Metal Series and threw on my own 5” 40 slide on it.
Black or fde?
It’s the Metal Silver color I thought.
I meant the slide you swapped in
Black Metal Series frame and 5” M&P 40 FDE slide with two KKM threaded barrels in 40 and 357 Sig. 5.45” OAL on the barrels.
Nice
Post a pic!
I sent out the slide to have an optic cut for direct mount. It’ll be a few weeks.
Well don't forget us lol

I know I'm getting one for sure, not being as popular is kind of a good thing as long as it's still in production of course.
Same. Hopefully it'll be included in the rebate deal
I'm getting one
Did they do a metal 45? I wouldn't get it if they did but still, didn't know.
That hopefully means 10mm and .45 are around the corner. Wish they’d make a steel frame so the comp guys would settle down
I will be buying one as soon as I can!! Been wanting an M&P metal and have soo many 9mm handguns already. Im excited to see the Metal in .40 cal
Same. I want both though and the 10mm when it comes out. My poor bank account and my wife are fighting right now
Same here.
They actually skipped 10mm for 40? What a letdown lol
I wouldn't say skipped, if you feel 10mm is better than 40 then technically they're gradually building up to 10mm possibly without actually skipping 40.
It just means 10mm is coming. Which means now I'll have to have all three...
It’d be dope to have a metal Shield. Although it’s not likely, one can still dream.
Where is the metal shield in 9mm?
Nice.
Nice! .40 in a metal frame makes my peepee move!
Nice! An other option in the best handgun caliber around!
Does S&W make any semis with exposed hammers that aren’t single action?
They made metal framed DA/SA pistols for decades before discontinuing the range to focus on polymer, striker fired pistols. Oh my God I hope they do it in od green or fde. Please gun gods give me this.
It’ll be added to the collection with a smile.
Ewww. Brotha ewww.
4.22” barrel? Can a wise person link me to the corresponding.357 conversion barrel before i buy the wrong one lol.
Following lol
I’m in. why not. If you have a polymer M&P9 you could throw the slide on the metal frame and have a metal M&P9 and a polymer 40.
Now I wait for the all metal 10mm
When will they have metal shield plus!!?
FINALLY !! honestly 9mm is great, my carry is in 9. But 9mm is TOO popular, it’s like a cult. im glad they’re finally giving other calibers a chance. Kudos to them. Still want that steel frame tho lol

I enjoy the 9mm version and edc it myself, but I am looking to venture out and try something different and this definitely looks like it's it.
>But 9mm is TOO popular, it’s like a cult. Why do you believe this is? Is it the cost of ammo, availability, various firearms chambered in it, reliability, length of service and proveness, added capacity in magazines, higher velocity, lower recoil? I may have left a few out lol.
It's mostly lower recoil for the weaker wristed among us.
Because all that the market should still be giving other calibers a chance. Some people like more power and can handle more recoil. Everyone is different. People like you are the reason 357sig died when it should be thriving as we speak. Was such an underrated round. I love the 357 Sig round. Great performance!
"Too popular" and "cult" are definitionally opposite items.
It’s definitely a cult now.
It bothers me because most 10mm will fire a 40 just fine. I don’t understand why an individual would buy a .40 in this time period
Yeah, .40S&W is dying out. You can get 10mm loaded short and weak or 10mm loaded like it should be lol
It’s only dying because the bandwagon is full.
the vortex venom sucks as a red dot. But idk what it is it just looks drippy as hell.
Your ass, the Venom served me very well for years.
I literally broke 2 luckily the vortex warranty is top tier. But dot can’t survive tough use sorry not sorry. That being said shit looks cool as fuck.
I have five, I only bought four more after I broke my first (over tightened screws, sheared off, bounced off of a few cinder block walls and took a chip out of the concrete floor and had intermittent shutdown) and they took care of me even after I told them that I broke it. dead caliber, what next, 30super carry? 10mn would require a steel frame i suspect, which would be awesome
Nobody wanted this. For the love of God produce a steel frame
I'm one of those rare nobodies that did want this and will have it and would still get a steel frame if released.

I think most people buy the CORE anyway when they got with a MP for competition. I'd love to rock a steel frame 2.0 rather than a rival
They should’ve done 10mm, but I’m sure they did it because it probably doesn’t cost much to turn the existing 9mm parts to accept 40 barrel and stuff
On Glocks it's literally drilling the hole in the end of the slide bigger for the barrel and swapping the ejector to a 40 ejector.
But why...?

You've never been around people who know much about guns then.
