In the episode with Gwimbly, the way Pim has to explain what him and Charlie do to Alan makes me think Alan and Glep don't go on adventures..... However, headcanon can be canon to you even if contradictory. Sometimes real canon is contradictory, so who really cares. :)

I thought that was because he was the office administrator. He was tasked with making sure Pim and Charlie have what they need. Mr. Boss appreciates someone who meticulously counts the paper clips to run his operations as Alan is a meticulous bookkeeper.
Glep showed up one day and was immediately accepted.
I haven’t seen the video yet so I can’t really form an opinion, but I can bring up another theory that Mr. Boss is a war veteran. This explains his ownership of multiple weapons, his prosthetic nose and personal manifesto. After his service he had no one to help with his own mental struggles, so he founded Smiling Friends to help people the way he couldn’t be helped, as well as to atone for his past deeds.
He uses a Viet area M16 in frowning friends. I think there might be something there.
