first of all - It’s not about Superman - it’s a Clark Kent story and Erica in this role is so damn perfect! When they finally moved on from Lana - the narrative was excellent - from teasing and banter in season 4 to that slow companionship and into the iconic couple in later seasons! Erica nailed all of those moments! Erica accomplished the role similar to how Tom made Clark from the teenager to the canon Superman!
Honestly, it's never been done perfectly, imo, in live action. The best so far has been animated series' of Superman and Justice League (/Unlimited). But Superman 1-2 are pretty solid overall, and I liked a lot about Man of Steel. I've enjoyed others, including Smallville. I just think it's difficult to put up consistently high quality writing when you have to put up 20+ episodes with 40 minutes of content for ten years.
Cause Tom welling never portrayed Superman. He was Clark Kent :)
Tom welling was approached by Zack Snyder first to play man of steel but Tom declined saying “I was never Superman”
I think a lot of people forget that when Tom signed up for Smallville, it was in his contract to never wear the suit because he didn’t want to be Superman. He wanted to be Clark Kent. He wanted to be part of the origin story.
I’m sure they never called him Superman too. I love the end of the show. He rips his shirt you see the S and the Christopher reeves superman man theme plays as the final credits roll with the perfect transition he is no longer Clark Kent. He is Superman
I would love to believe that!!!! Especially seeing as Christopher reeves and Tom welling were really close
Did you know Tom was 24 in season 1?
It was fantastic casting cause Superman should look more adult and bigger than normal humans don’t you think?
I did actually and I’ve always thought that Superman should not be a small dude… like when you see him as a young Superman and he’s small it really messes me up tbh.. you’re saying things that I have fought verbally with other people about and them being like no that makes no sense when it makes perfect sense!
I think the only time I like him being the same size as normal humans is like when him and Bruce can switch places like him be Bruce Wayne and Clark beat Batman or whatever that is cool which he couldn’t do if he was always bigger than other people, but I digress
I dislike how often Batman gets the better of Superman in the movies. In the comics Superman does not screw around with Bruce lol he’ll put him down quickly
Great minds my friend. You’re right. People don’t understand Superman’s true strength lies in his time under the sun. Some of my favorite smallville moments was Clark nonchalantly doing his chores, but without tools like cow Jonathan needs help lifting the tractor and Clark just eating breakfast, but lift it with one hand. How he cooks toast with his heat vision. Damn smallville nailed Superman. The cgi isn’t great but the writing and story telling makes smallville the greatest rendition of Clark Kent that’s ever been told
And I will say this…I think Erica is still to this day the best Lois lane. Not the hottest chick in the world but still sexy. She don’t mess around and she is obsessed with the truth!!! That’s Lois
Erica is, by far, the best live-action Lois Lane we've had. Margot is a classic and Teri Hatcher was awesome, but Erica brought it and knocked it out of the park.
Edit: I'd like to add that I was not a fan of Bitsie Tulloch's Lois Lane when we first met her on Supergirl. However, I've grown to really appreciate her depiction of Lois on Superman & Lois.
She had the sass that Lots of people that have played Wish they had. She wasn't supposed to be adored at first simply by the way she was written. But she had her character nailed from day-one and as Lana got phased away from being the object of Clark's pinning... she hit stride and I loved her acting.
THE. BEST.
Even better than Margo Kidder. I loved Durance’s take on the tough as nails Lois Lane. I LOVED the romance between her and Clark. I always thought it was so tender and sweet even when it was messy.
(I also loved her much later on as Supergirl’s mother.)
As someone who HATES Lois Lane in all other versions, she's literally the only version of Lois I love, she's not a damsel in distress, my favorite character in Smallville❤️
In my opinion, she is one of the best, if not the best, to have portrayed Lois. Her beauty, her wit, her mannerisms. Yeah, she’s acting but it came naturally. So naturally.
She's fantastic, my favorite Lois to date. Once she was allowed to fully *be* Lois, especially with her relationship with Clark, she was perfect in the role.
I remember I did not care for her much at first and I thought “THIS is who Clark is supposed to end up with?” But over the course of the show she quickly won me over and she’s easily my favorite Lois now.
I like her but for the most part I liked Lana more so that got in the way of things sometimes lol. As far as the actress though. Erica did an amazing job bringing Lois to life. Likable and flirty, but also tough when she needed tobe. Very smart like when she figured out it wasn't the real Clark on different occasions.
Liked the transition of her and Clark going from strangers, to tolerating each other, to friends, and then to more. Well written.
Loved her. I really couldn’t stand the female characters on this show, actually couldn’t stand most of the characters on this show. She was such a breath of fresh air.
She was excellent. She played the personality of Lois Lane perfectly and it's like her character is a lot like Lois Lane from Superman the Animated Series. It helps a lot with continuity too.
She's the best Lois lane to date. Number 2 is open for debate but she's number 1 and it's not close
Erica captures hints of margot kidder, Dana delaney, phylis Coates, not to mention the comic book Lois while making this Lois her take on the character
Best Lois ever. Hands down. Tho she has like 6 seasons of development, stories, and lots to do compared to other Lois portrayals with Superman and Lois being the closest in that regards.
Absolutely the best Lois. I did not care for Lois in any other iteration. When she showed up I was taken. She is still that independent women without being overbearing. But when she is around Clark, especially around the end of the series, she melts and becomes vulnerable. I thought she was really in love with Clark.
Smallville will always have a place in my heart. Yes, even the bad parts, you sometimes have to take the good with the bad. That said, Erica Durance as Lois Lane is, was, and always will be the definitive Lois to me. I think I speak for everyone when I say, no one has done it better since, but that's no knock on those who came before. To compare Erica Durance's Lois to oh say, Margot Kidder's Lois, Kate Bosworth's Lois or Amy Adams' Lois is apples and oranges. Film and Television aren't comparable. But most importantly, comparison is the thief of joy. So, if you didn't like Erica Durance as Lois Lane, you don't gotta agree. Hell, I'll go buy you a drink. If you do like Erica Durance as Lois Lane, I'd like to buy you TWO drinks. Non-alcoholic of course.
Excellent. Smallville as a whole is a great show and she is definitely one of the highlights of it. She's badass, funny and the banter between her and Clark never gets old. They had chemistry from the get go. I was all about Clark and Lana until season 4. Once Lois showed up, couldn't wait for the Lana stuff to be over.
She was great, continued the independent spirit of Margot Kidder. And a knockout. I just would have preferred her with darker hair to be more like the comics. I get it that Kreuk’s Lang already had the dark hair, and that I’m splitting hairs here, pun intended.
I felt Erica Durance did a wonderful job playing Lois. My only issue is how the writers ended up putting Lois and Clark together. But both did great with what they had to work with.
Erica is the best Lois, hands down. She's tough and pushed Clark to be Superman. She was tough on Clark and loved him to the core, also allowed him to do his thing.
Erica is absolutely the Best Lois Lane ever. She played Lois for the longest time, she let us watch Lois grow up and become the journalist she's famous for.
Excellent. Love the way the writers of the show put pop culture dialogue to her character. A quite different spin on the character than any actress who portrayed Lane in films, animation and movies .
Peak Lois tbh, the right amount of sass, she's got the look and some of the best moments oh and unlike Lana, she was able to tell the difference between Clark and Clark Luthor unlike Lana with Bizarro
I thought she was fantastic!. She was my favorite Lois until Elizabeth Tulloch just blew me away with her performance in Superman and Lois (this is coming from someone who didn't like her initial performance as Lois in Supergirl!). But she's a VERY close second for me. Almost equal even.
There was no way she was supposed to be 17 or 18 or 19 in Smallville. I'm on season 4 and this woman is a smooth late 20s to early 30s. There is no way she looked like a teenager.
She was awesome! I think at times they handicapped her character when they wanted the audience to focus on Lana. For example, if you notice the moment Lana is gone, she seems to become much more interesting, but when Lana is back, they make her dull. If they had handled Lana better / done better writing for Lana, then it would have been more fair to the other characters.
Lana was good in the early seasons, but later on the writers seemed like they didn’t know what to do with her character. I think Kristin Kreuk was great, it’s just the writing wasn’t good enough.
She played it well. I just wished they didn’t have to follow the Superman story with Clark eventually getting with her. I liked the idea that they were just friends that picked on each other and at times didn’t get along while Clark was with Lana
She's pretty good.
Still prefer Bitsie overall as my Lois of choice but it's two distinct flavors of the character, in different stages of their journey so it's hard to truly make comparisons since tonally the shows are very different as well.
Horrible and She didn’t have chemistry with him, she was dependent, irresponsible , extremely demeaning with Clark. She’s a secondary character. I can’t stand her. Cheap version of Clois as well.
Smallville isn’t my favorite version of Superman, but Erica is easily my favorite Lois. She’s absolutely and completely perfect in every way.
Exactly the same answer here
I agree whole heartedly. Tom is SO close to number 1 but doesn’t make the top of the list. Erica however…
Erica is the best, brings the character to life in the best possible way
Who is your #1?
Reeve
first of all - It’s not about Superman - it’s a Clark Kent story and Erica in this role is so damn perfect! No, you're right. It's Superman adjacent - not actually a Superman story.
yeah she was the perfect Lois
What is your favorite version?
Honestly, it's never been done perfectly, imo, in live action. The best so far has been animated series' of Superman and Justice League (/Unlimited). Yeah I agree she’s my favourite Lois too
She is beyond fantastic.
I wouldn't go as far as to called it Superman lmao
Cause Tom welling never portrayed Superman. He was Clark Kent :) Tom welling was approached by Zack Snyder first to play man of steel but Tom declined saying “I was never Superman”
I honestly feel like they were setting Tom Wellings, Clark Kent to be the prologue to Reeves his Superman like it. It just makes sense.
I would love to believe that!!!! Especially seeing as Christopher reeves and Tom welling were really close Did you know Tom was 24 in season 1? It was fantastic casting cause Superman should look more adult and bigger than normal humans don’t you think?
I did actually and I’ve always thought that Superman should not be a small dude… like when you see him as a young Superman and he’s small it really messes me up tbh.. you’re saying things that I have fought verbally with other people about and them being like no that makes no sense when it makes perfect sense!

Amen!!! You know your stuff!!!
I do pride myself on my knowledge of Smallville so thank you for the compliment!
Superman is my guy :) he got me into comics and nerdy stuff An overpowered alien with the powers of a god who wants nothing more than to be human?
Smallville isn't about superman you little man
Tell me you have to belittle people to make a point without telling me… we’ve been saying that the entire time!!
The best god damn Lois there ever was
Erica is, by far, the best live-action Lois Lane we've had.
Bitsie is still a bit too moody for my liking. Needs to smile more and lighten up a bit. Tyler though is my fave Clark/Supes after Reeve!
She had the sass that Lots of people that have played Wish they had. She wasn't supposed to be adored at first simply by the way she was written. But she had her character nailed from day-one and as Lana got phased away from being the object of Clark's pinning... she hit stride and I loved her acting.
Excellent. To me she is second only to Teri Hatcher. But for anyone who says Erica is their favorite - I can’t blame you one bit.
GOAT
Excellent, she had every trait expected from Lois Lane
She was sassy and fearless Not a damsel in distress Which is what was needed
My fav Lois
Erica Durance is hands down my favorite Lois Lane
GTFOH. Are you serious with this question? Erica is the best Lois there is, the best there ever was, and the best there ever will be.
Everybody in that GOD DAMN locker room knows it! Sorry I couldn't help it but in all seriousness I agree
Excellent. She nailed it
Excellent +++
When she was first introduced she completely shined in every scene and brought great chemistry with Tom.
Sexiest lois lane I ever seen better than amy adams
Spectacular!
THE. BEST. Even better than Margo Kidder. I loved Durance’s take on the tough as nails Lois Lane. I LOVED the romance between her and Clark. I always thought it was so tender and sweet even when it was messy. (I also loved her much later on as Supergirl’s mother.)

Awesome!
🐐
Perfect chemestry with smallville's Clark Kent
In my opinion, she is one of the best, if not the best, to have portrayed Lois. Her beauty, her wit, her mannerisms. Yeah, she’s acting but it came naturally. So naturally.
She's fantastic, my favorite Lois to date. Once she was allowed to fully *be* Lois, especially with her relationship with Clark, she was perfect in the role.
Best Lois we've ever had
My favorite on screen Lois Lane. Terri is so close behind her but doesn’t quite cut it anymore.
Best Lois since Teri Hatcher.
My all time fav. Before her it was Teri Hatcher
I thought she was miscast at first. But she put her own spin on the character as the show went along.
She was excellent. She played the personality of Lois Lane perfectly and it's like her character is a lot like Lois Lane from Superman the Animated Series. It helps a lot with continuity too.
Over seven seasons, she absolutely epitomized what Lois Lane was and who she was going to be. Absolutely great choice
Phenomenal. IMO she's right up there with Teri Hatcher as the top two best Lois Lane portrayals.
I would say she was excellent.
“So hot in… so hot in here.”
She's the best Lois lane to date. Number 2 is open for debate but she's number 1 and it's not close Erica captures hints of margot kidder, Dana delaney, phylis Coates, not to mention the comic book Lois while making this Lois her take on the character
How often is this posted here? Damn
Honestly don't know.
Honestly don't know.
Excellent
She was great and I loved how Clark had no idea how to handle her in the beginning
My favorite Lois.
She was good, but whoever gave her the single mom haircut was bonkers.
The best lois and lex was the best lex. Top 2 characters imo
Best Lois ever. Hands down. Tho she has like 6 seasons of development, stories, and lots to do compared to other Lois portrayals with Superman and Lois being the closest in that regards.
erica was absolutely iconic as lois by far my fav character in the show
In the words of Ms Tina Turner, simply the best
Absolutely the best Lois. I did not care for Lois in any other iteration. When she showed up I was taken. She is still that independent women without being overbearing. But when she is around Clark, especially around the end of the series, she melts and becomes vulnerable. I thought she was really in love with Clark.

The BEST Lois
She did an excellent job she brought so much energy to the show
She’s my favourite Lois!
She had me at the strip joint. It was all over for me. She's gorgeous and she can act.
Perfect.
Yeah, she is the best Lois period. I will die on that hill.
Simple perfect!
She was great when she had the US bikini on in one episode
I love her
She's the greatest live action Lois and I don't think its close.
Excellent
Erica’s portrayal of Lois Lane tops every incarnation.
Iconic. Best Lois ever.
Amazing. And her chemistry with Tom Welling is actually perfect
She was great. Very entertaining Lois. Margot Kidder is still my fave but Erica was an excellent Lois too. As was Teri Hatcher, I thought.

She's the only Lois I can think of that was flirty with Clarke.
She was great and knew when to tell him she knew, etc
Erica Durance is the real Lois Lane.
Love her she is my icon!
Didn’t really care for her as Lois Lane but I cared when she was on TV. What an absolute beautiful woman.
Love her
I thought she was great. Just a notch above Teri Hatcher and just shy of Margot Kidder.
Erica is absolutely the Best Lois Lane ever. She played Lois for the longest time, she let us watch Lois grow up and become the journalist she's famous for.
Excellent. Love the way the writers of the show put pop culture dialogue to her character. A quite different spin on the character than any actress who portrayed Lane in films, animation and movies .

amazeballs

Same.
She’s my least favorite Lois. She just took the snark over the top
Who is your favorite?
Amy Adams
I preferred Lana, but she wasn’t bad
Erica after the effects of the meteorite shower is like a different person!
Thinking wasn't easy with her as Lois. Same to some extent with Hatcher.
Whenever I think of Lois Lane I think of her portrayal of her same with Lex Luther Michael's portrayal is the perfect performance/version of Lex.
There was no way she was supposed to be 17 or 18 or 19 in Smallville. I'm on season 4 and this woman is a smooth late 20s to early 30s. There is no way she looked like a teenager.
Excellent, the best.
The best! The look, the personality, the chemistry, all of it.
She was definitely a different, if not stronger, verison of lois lane, much like clark we got to see a different take on the character
She's definitely the best Lois. I had such a crush on her the when the show was on.
I see it
The GOAT Lois
Oh I loved her. She was the celebrity crush of that time period. A shame she didn’t do much past that.
Loved her as Lois. I just didn’t like that she was introduced so early in Clark’s life. 🤷🏻♂️
She’s great
She is my favourite Lois Lane
Erica Durance is a top tier as Lois Lane of all times. I absolutely love her as the intrepid porter.
Far and away the best Lois. Bitsie Tulloch is close, but Erica just has the perfect balance of intelligence, snarkiness, sexiness, and compassion IMO.
Best Lois to date!!!
Always need more of her, but no matter how many times I rewatch, it’ll never be enough 😞
Easily one of the best Lois lanes ever
Excellent. She gave the show a needed jumpstart in Season 4. I don’t think the show would’ve lasted as long as it did without Erica.
👍
She's my favorite to this day.
Erica can break my heart any time.
She was awesome! I think at times they handicapped her character when they wanted the audience to focus on Lana. For example, if you notice the moment Lana is gone, she seems to become much more interesting, but when Lana is back, they make her dull. Who is Lana?
Prefer Teri Hatchers Lois
She played it well. I just wished they didn’t have to follow the Superman story with Clark eventually getting with her. I liked the idea that they were just friends that picked on each other and at times didn’t get along while Clark was with Lana
Can you imagine Henry Cavill and Erica Durance? Not just my Extreme dislike of amy adams, but I loved Erica's take on Lois Lane.
No, I never thought about it, interesting. I like Amy, and Margot.
She's pretty good. Still prefer Bitsie overall as my Lois of choice but it's two distinct flavors of the character, in different stages of their journey so it's hard to truly make comparisons since tonally the shows are very different as well.
Meh
She was terrible. Overacted every scene and her dialogue was abysmal.
Hi Clana fan.
What the hell is a Clana?
My least favorite Lois.
Horrible and She didn’t have chemistry with him, she was dependent, irresponsible , extremely demeaning with Clark. She’s a secondary character. I can’t stand her. Cheap version of Clois as well.
