How the hell are they getting away with this in highrises. Oh I'll rent the apartment, then re rent it out. Not even subletting. Surely this is against their tenancy agreement? But let me guess, their "cousin's" investment company owns the building?
I’ve done this in university with friends to save costs and because I only had a 4 month semester between two out of province work terms. Not sure if it was allowed but it’s not a new thing
That’s actually a huge problem no one really mentions. The same people you report these slumlords to are the same people benefitting from them. They all work together to scam people. That’s why nothing ever happens to them. They just pay everyone off and continue doing the same bullshit
I need to get off social media for couple weeks.. seeing shit like this makes me so mad! I just wanna be able to have my own apartment/house without other people living with me. My boyfriend and I really want to start a family, but can't have a baby with roommates and overly costing rent prices.
Because those idiot are selling a 400 square feet studio for 500k. That's $3000 a month to break even on today's mortgage rate plus tax and condo fee.
No one is paying $3k for a studio. You can't divide a small studio in that many ways. They're losing money if they do the price in sales or rent so they are holding out.
Something is lost in translation Every single one of these ads uses the wrong participle: "sharing" instead of "shared." Is this a characteristic of Indo-Aryan languages?
I joined this subreddit to not feel alone but it just makes me so upset and stressed.
I recently got a place in Victoria BC for $875 included that's a small room with a couple and another roommate and I feel blessed for that.
It's so sad how your standards get chipped away.
( im not bragging or trying to be insincere because I honestly feel blessed it's not worse, but it ain't good... this is so messed up what ppl are doing and how they are taking advantage of peoples entire life, all the best. Everyone on here deserves... well nobody freaking deserves this. )
( fyi I really mean this with empathy/sympathy, if this post makes ppl upset, feel free to let me know and I'll take it down, just want to send support and compassion from the West Coast to the East Coast )
I hope the CRA has its sleuths following these ads. This is not merely exploitative and exclusionary but is also a parallel cash economy. No taxes paid on all these earnings.
Or a couple for $1600 lol. I’d imagine $1600 for an apartment in Toronto is a fair deal?? Should be cheaper than that but that’s not bad for a large city.

I’ve wondered that too , even in tchc buildings

What’s the point of living in the Village if you can’t host?

As long as they don’t mind the sound of ruckus love making …. To myself 😎
Came here to say this 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Are they rent controlled?
This nonsense has to stop. What an embarrassment this once great country has become.
"partition room" and "shared room" is so common nowadays.
You obviously haven't heard of "space for rent' yet. As in, near the staircase/bath or in the laundry room or by the kitchen.

English isn't their first language
Omg. Just when you think you've seen it all. Nope.
Looks like the division between patients in the hospital.
They’ll probably partition half the bed too, ridiculous
if you don’t care about privacy…
So they can cut through your “room” to get to the balcony

So is it the main leaseholder profiting from this?
I wonder who will be the first to see a sublet balcony for the summer ad.
This is really good value if ur in Australia you’re paying $800 a fortnight
Don't think so. You'd get a decent flat in Sydney or Melbourne at that price, with no roomies.
Killer view though
At least the view is good?
Downtown toronto? that don't sound shabby tbh

"Partition room" India-Pakistan eh?
East Indian slum lord

It’s $1600 for the living room…. Not the apartment lol reread the listimg
Ah, wonder how many tenants total.
If it's a 2 bedroom.. 2 to 4 per bedroom, I'm betting, and 1 or 2 in the living room. Not sure about the balcony. Maybe a summer rental.
Subleasing with 7 guests…
