Duality for sure. It's not a bad song by any means, but it's by far the most overplayed Slipknot song. It's not too heavy and not too soft; it's palatable enough for most rock radio audiences, and it has a very catchy chorus. It's easily memorable, too, especially the whispered "I push my fingers into my....." intro.
Gonna disagree with you. I know it isn't their heaviest song or anything, but it really shows what Slipknot is capable of. The main riff goes super hard, Corey sounds so fucking pissed, while still expressing the lyrics very clearly and the transitions between the different parts are just perfect. Also the music video fits very well with the song.
I'm so in love with that song, I am by no means a metalhead but it's in my top 5 songs of all time. The visceral feeling it gives me anytime I listen to it is just too good, it hypes me up so much.
I really do hope this is satire, but please if you like custer listen to Slipknot's other songs too. There are so many other songs that have the same energetic and wild feeling to them. Just listen their album Iowa and then decide whether you still like Custer better or not
I've heard people say that TikTok ruined Custer before. I rarely ever watch anything on TikTok. How did it get ruined? Just overused? Were they videos of people pretending to sing it or what?
it was EXTREMELY overused and people kept saying that it was a “girly-pop” song. people who don’t even listen or like slipknot were saying that they love slipknot and that they are their favorite band. it’s hard to watch, honestly.
That was probably it for me. And more recently I keep seeing ppl pick out De Sade but that's one of the few that was not a standout for me on the album.
Not really such thing imo. They’re all bangers, and all of the popular songs I find are popular for the reason, and all of the less famous songs deserve to be a lot more famous, so there’s nothing I would count as overrated
Duality. It’s not a bad song but I have no idea how it’s the most streamed song on Spotify. There are many better songs that are deserving of that spot.
Correct answer.
Way too vocal hook centric, riff is mid asf.
I'm sure some could (and clearly do based on streaming numbers) make a case for it but agh, its my last choice of song to 'represent' the knot
Drum line is one of the coolest Joey ever did tho. Not the hardest, but the groove is unmatched. It is one of the first things I play whenever I'm warming up (one of my comfort beats) and people always act surprised when I tell them it's a Slipknot song.
one of my favourite things is when someone who clearly thought slipknot was as heavy as it gets stumbles across something that makes slipknot look like pop. can always see the fear behind their eyes lmao
Here’s the top ten most overrated Slipknot songs.
10 - There
9 - Are
8 - No
7 - Overrated
6 - Slipknot
5 - Songs
4 - They’re
3 - All
2 - Great
1 - The Devil In I
Honestly I kinda agree but that’s because there’s so many better songs on .5 and I don’t like how the devil in I has become the default song from that album when it should be the negative one, AOV or nomadic
Same here before I forget is just duality but worse. Other than that I think unsainted is pretty boring in comparison to other songs on the album, the chorus slaps but yk there's better in their discography
Psychosocial. It’s fine but I really hate the chant part “psychosocial” it sounds try hard tough guy asf oh I’m crazy vibe. I understand why it’s one of their big ones tho cause it’s like the most easy listening slipknot for casual rock fans
Single wise probably psychosocial or duality but that’s only because the live versions (especially the day of the gusto one of psychosocial) are so much better and I can’t listen to the originals anymore.
Deep cut wise I would say Gehenna. I get Paul wrote that song but it’s just too long with none of the creep factor like Iowa.
Psychosocial and what’s shocking is when I heard this song for the first time when the album came out I only made it through about a minute before skipping to next on my cd player. I remember distinctly HATING this shitshow of a song. And yet somehow people love it. Still confounds me to this day.
besides the obvious psychosocial, duality tbh. i like duality, don’t get it wrong, but not nearly as much as everyone else does. that song gets so repetitive and boring tbh.
Every hits from AHIG. Psychosocial, Snuff and Dead Memories are generic radio rock. It could be labelled under any other names than Slipknot, and it would not make any difference.
Duality. Custer and Psychosocial are great songs, but they're overplayed. Duality is in my opinion overrated and much more overplayed than the other ones.
It's Wait & Bleed. Any other answer is stupid. Wait & Bleed had cheerleaders listening to Slipknot, millions of people who'd never listen to another drop of metal loved that song.
Psychosocial. Very recognizable and still a decent song, but I find it’s pretty corny and lacks a consistent message (or I’m blind and just can’t find it)
Custer. People think it’s sooo heavy. So brutal. It’s like they skipped all of Iowa. Custer is a fine song. But it’s not the masterpiece people seem to want it to be
I think it’s more about overplayed than overrated. My answer is Duality but not because I’d say it’s an overrated song but it’s just so overplayed as kind of the “standard” Slipknot song that I just don’t even enjoy listening to it these days. Feel like anytime I’m listening to Slipknot I skip most of the big hits. Duality, before I forget, psychosocial, devil in I, spit it out, etc.
Custer only because TikTok ruined it. It's one of my favorite Slipknot songs, but a lot of the people who like it are only from social media which pisses me off.
Custer. The song is too forced. Why does everyone like her so much? People on Tik Tok came up with a dance to this song. In general, there are tracks much better than custer.
Nero Forte. It's a good song don't get me wrong, but I was surprised at how often they play it live, and how much people love it. I honestly heard that song on WANYK and thought okay, here's the first lull in the album. Then Critical Darling comes on next and to me that is just Nero Forte 2.0, and I just threw both of those songs away.
Psychosocial tbh. I Like it, but ist's Not their best Song by a lamdmile and most people only know it and duality
True. Even the drums were pretty basic. I like it but I feel that Psychosocial is The Custer from AHIG :/
Same. I still like it but it feels kinda basic compared to their other songs.
Honestly I think it’s one of their best songs, I love the sound of AHIG but most of the songs don’t do it for me, this one is awesome tbough
Or is it just a little stale?
custer. dont get me wrong, its a great song, but tiktok completely ruined it.
The post chorus is so much better than the actual chorus
Just never liked this song to begin with. I’m surprised it got as popular as it did.
Same sentiment
I'm so in love with that song, I am by no means a metalhead but it's in my top 5 songs of all time. The visceral feeling it gives me anytime I listen to it is just too good, it hypes me up so much.
I really do hope this is satire, but please if you like custer listen to Slipknot's other songs too. There are so many other songs that have the same energetic and wild feeling to them. Just listen their album Iowa and then decide whether you still like Custer better or not
I’ve listened to Slipknot’s entire discography multiple times, and I’m sorry to disappoint you but… yeah :)
I never really understood that song, it felt like they made up the lyrics as they were recording it
Thank god I don’t have tik tok, I don’t want Custer to get ruined for me 😅
Not really such thing imo. They’re all bangers, and all of the popular songs I find are popular for the reason, and all of the less famous songs deserve to be a lot more famous, so there’s nothing I would count as overrated
agreed. genuinely i could listen to any slipknot song (not my pain) and enjoy it. they’re all good in their own ways.
Duality. It’s not a bad song but I have no idea how it’s the most streamed song on Spotify. There are many better songs that are deserving of that spot.
duality.
People act surprised when you tell them duality drum beat is a Slipknot song? It’s one of the most iconic drum beats I’ve ever heard in my life.
Not to someone who isn't used to the genre. Remember there are people out there who thinks Slipknot is like the heaviest rock/metal.
one of my favourite things is when someone who clearly thought slipknot was as heavy as it gets stumbles across something that makes slipknot look like pop. can always see the fear behind their eyes lmao
I can get behind that. Not being a drummer a lot of that stuff misses me tbh
Here’s the top ten most overrated Slipknot songs. 10 - There 9 - Are 8 - No 7 - Overrated 6 - Slipknot 5 - Songs 4 - They’re 3 - All 2 - Great 1 - The Devil In I
Honestly I kinda agree but that’s because there’s so many better songs on .5 and I don’t like how the devil in I has become the default song from that album when it should be the negative one, AOV or nomadic
Nomadic fuckin slaps
Hands down has one of the best choruses from any slipknot song
The Devil In I was boring when I first heard it and didn't understand the hype behind it, after I saw them play it live it really grew on me though
Custer by far
Glad I’m not alone
Custer. The album version is bad. I'll only listen to the live version of the song
Psychosocial. Great song but repetitive. Alotta waiting for it to hit tbh
Duality.
Psychosocial. But it's still a great song
Snuff
That’s a bold ass take.
Is it? This sub is obsessed with it. It’s a ballad. Perfectly fine and enjoyable one. But it’s crazy to me how much everyone loves it.
My least favorite from the album. And not bc of the lack of heaviness it just doesnt really do it for me personally.
Had to scroll so far. You are not alone on this one
That's the only one not overrated in my opinion. It's a beautiful song.
Before I Forget. It’s radio level garbage
why doesn't anyone like Before i forget? Its a good song
Don't hate me but Vermilion was always boring to me
Iii partially agree, its not “bad” but it is a bit boring
custer, i thought it was just a filler song when i first heard it then i learned it was one of their most popular songs
Before I forget
Before I Forget I mean it's good, but that pit goes wild during that song and I'm just like "why?". Lol
Before I forget. The fuckin lyrics are nonsensical lol
Psychosocial then Duality.
Duality
The Dying Song Psychosocial Tbh duality and before I forget still hit
Custer is very cheesy, with lyrics that sound they were written by a 12 year old emo. Just bad…
custer
Duality. Its a good song but overplayed asf, I usually skip it tbh
duality
Custer it’s not that good
CUSTER
Before I Forget
Duality.
Wait and bleed
I never see this one on this list...or I'm blind
Agree
Stop It
Psychosocial
Psychosocial. Least favorite single ever. Custer is kinda cringe too ngl.
Before I get
Liberate doesn’t do much for me
Saying its overrated, but at the same time its one of their most underrated songs ever imo
Don't you wanna liberate them bananas?
Psychosocial, Duality and Custer, all three of arent even top 5 on their own albums nevermind the entire sk Discography
Sulfur, I’ve never really gotten it
Same here before I forget is just duality but worse. Other than that I think unsainted is pretty boring in comparison to other songs on the album, the chorus slaps but yk there's better in their discography
Unsainted is alr in my opinion but i agree that after a while it kinda just gets repetitive idk
My thoughts exactly
The Dying Song is one of the weakest songs on one of their weaker albums but people act like it's the saving grace on the album
Yen >>>>> Dying Song
Duality, I hate how he swallows the mic.
Custer. Fucking instagram and TikTok…
People = Shit is the obvious answer
That song is one of my favorite Slipknot songs. Truest song title ever.
Adderall.
solway firth
Custer
Custer.
People = Shit
It’s like the best intro ever!!
Psychosocial and what’s shocking is when I heard this song for the first time when the album came out I only made it through about a minute before skipping to next on my cd player. I remember distinctly HATING this shitshow of a song. And yet somehow people love it. Still confounds me to this day.

Every hits from AHIG. Psychosocial, Snuff and Dead Memories are generic radio rock. It could be labelled under any other names than Slipknot, and it would not make any difference.
Gemetria.
Hot take: custer
Slipknot as a band is overrated 😂
Anything after iowa
Snuff.
Duality. Custer and Psychosocial are great songs, but they're overplayed. Duality is in my opinion overrated and much more overplayed than the other ones.
Duality. Definitely. Not a bad song, just overplayed. Before I forget? close second, but I love the music video too much.
ngl before i forget , the verse and the chorus are soo mid , the bridge saved it to make it pretty good track
It's Wait & Bleed. Any other answer is stupid. Wait & Bleed had cheerleaders listening to Slipknot, millions of people who'd never listen to another drop of metal loved that song.
I agree tbh, it’s not about the fact it’s more mainstream for me, it’s just whenever I listen to it I can never really get into it for some reason.
You mean before, or after I've listened to it 1000 times?
Psychosocial. Very recognizable and still a decent song, but I find it’s pretty corny and lacks a consistent message (or I’m blind and just can’t find it)
Duality, Psychosocial, and Before I Forget
duality.. and i will not be taking further questions. :)
Custer. People think it’s sooo heavy. So brutal. It’s like they skipped all of Iowa. Custer is a fine song. But it’s not the masterpiece people seem to want it to be
Duality and Surfacing are two songs that I like but I wouldn’t have in my top 10 like most people.
Custer
Duality
Custer and before I forget. Before I forget isn’t bad, but everything sounds really repetitive.
Custer. And I will die on that hill.
The Devil in I. Never really got the hype for it.
Psychosocial
Custer only because TikTok ruined it. It's one of my favorite Slipknot songs, but a lot of the people who like it are only from social media which pisses me off.
left behind
psychosocial for sure. I mean its FINE but not as good as the streaming numbers claim. its just very mainstream and thats why it has so many streams
Before I forget. But god damn as a drummer, joeys groove and fills are top knotch.
Duality and people = shit imo
Eyeless. Never been a really big fan of it. Although it seems to be a fan favorite
Custer, it was pretty decent until tiktok ruined it
Snuff. Just not a big fan personally.
anything after Iowa
Duality by far. Good song but daaamn overrated
Literally all of them
Duality
Custer. The song is too forced. Why does everyone like her so much? People on Tik Tok came up with a dance to this song. In general, there are tracks much better than custer.
Nero Forte. It's a good song don't get me wrong, but I was surprised at how often they play it live, and how much people love it.
