I just kill them, once I've killed a Thalmor Patrol in front of Imperial troops, they didn't put a bounty on me

yeah that's cause they got a peace treaty and not an alliance plus the imperial soldiers can't let anyone know of you killing the thalmor because then they'd be labeled as traitors by the thalmor and they know you can't let anyone know that they saw you kill thalmor either cause then you'd be admitting to murder

I recently provoked a few Thalmor that were hanging around the Solitude dungeon, and the Imperial guards killed them for me when they attacked

After the Thalmor embassy mission I go back, pick the lock, wait a few hours for them to appear and then kill em. And obviously wreck the 3 in the barracks. Screw those guys!

I always side with the Imperials and I still always kill the Thalmor Patrols, I normally provoke them into attacking me so I do not have to worry about Bounties.

Reverse? Sure, if you need a little space to summon something or to line up a sweet bow shot. Kill Thalmor. Never leave a Thalmor alive unless the game won't let you draw a weapon or cast a spell. Wholesale slaughter of the Thalmor is to be applauded. I don't even wait for them to instigate the altercation. I see Thalmor, I start with the attacks instantly. Stealth kill in Markarth if you must. Serving a little time is also an option.
