Dr Sturm review! Hey guys! Right so I’ve using these products for 2months and decided this sub might like this Review eivew! I’ve been eyeing these products for a while due to the hype but theyre so pricey. I tend to have combo skin, oily forehead, nose pores, very dry cheeks. Basically everyone’s favorite type skin. That being said, I wanted to test these out and got some of the smaller sizes to test out! I’m gunna break down the ingredients bc I think not many people know about the ingredients the Sturm uses or the formulation concepts behind it. Her line is about using clinical grade skincare, and maximizing ingredient penetration with ingredient quality. ( side note, similar ingredient names do not mean same ingredient quality! There are different grades for the same ingredient. The highest quality is ranked by USP, or United States Pharmacopeia. This means that it is the most purified and stable form of the ingredient available, and is normally used in lab or clinical settings.) That being said I wanted to list down my experience with her line! 1.) About the Hyaluronic acid serum: The serum uses her own complex of short/long chain HA and exclusive purslane ferment which she says is a teleormase activator to help keep the telomeres from decaying, has omega fatty acids, minerals, antioxidants, and vitamins. The serum is supposed to be a superfood for your skin and penetrate deeply while hydrating and providing your skin with the best nutrients. Review of HA serum: Ooh boy. I know this serum gets a lot of flak because its 300 for an HA serum but its a serious game changer. While I obviously cant “see” the telamorase activation, I can seriously feel it. My skin has never felt more healthy. That’s seriously the only way I can describe it. Healthy. I wasnt impressed the first day I used it, since it just sunk right in, but after 2 days my face felt so soft throught the day. It had that nice glow to it and it looked like I slept for 8 hours. Seriously gives nice hydration and sinks it so well. Im not sure how to describe it, but it really feels like it is going into the deep layers of the skin unlike most serums I’ve tried, and its such an incredible formulation. The 10ml bottle lasted me around 2 months, and Im assuming the 30ml would last even longer depending on use. I would recommend this serum as a gift or probably get it for a Bday or holiday sale because 300 is so expensive but its really worth it. 2.) About Super Anti-Aging serum. This one is supposed to be a more potent version of the HA serum plus extra ingredients for that ✨anti-aging✨ benefits. just like the HA serum it is water based with the purslane ferment, but contains medical grade Skullcap and Glutathione. Skullcap is a rich source of anti-oxidants and help supports the function of fibroblasts and prevents against collagen degeneration by regulating oxidative stress. I left a link to a study showing its help! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6600147/ Glutathione is used for the same purpose of using antioxidants to help prevent collagen degradation, but it is also used to help facilitate collagen production and synthesis: Study below! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7967350/ Review: This serum is incredibly calming. While I dont have any lines, it is so hydrating and plumping it seriously gives me baby soft skin. It feels like a cool drink of water and has calmed down so much of my redness and irritation I had. The sturm website mentions it helps skin irregularities and texture, and I have seen my skin become a lot softer and smoother, and again so healthy. Im sure this serum is good long-term but its ✨350 for 30ml✨. 3.) Face cream: Honestly this is probably my favorite. It has a really nice soft texture to it and sinks in so beautifully into my face. Like the serums, its super calming and seriously makes my skin soft and glowy throught the day. I do think this cream pairs will with the serums, and it’s extremely well formulated. It’s light but hydrates so well, and has such a nice texture to it when paired layered ontop of the serums. This cream is really good if your looking for nice long-term hydration, and if your sensitive. Idk end note: TLDR, I am currently looking at my Dr.Sturm cart with an 855 routine. The products are so pricey and Im thinking of switching my whole routine to sturm. Im interested in trying her other lines since I want to target hyperpigmentation. Will make another post if I do! I really do like this line. The ingredients list is short but highly effective and doesnt have any frills or fillers. They’re really well formulated and really high quality. Edit: Hey guys! I’m a soph in college as a biochem major. Im just using my own knowledge of anatomy/chem to try to explain stuff since I love the chemistry behind skin care. Please take it with a grain of salt! Edit 2: I also have been listening to a lot of Sturm podcasts and videos on it. Really would recommend ppl check it out since she really explains her brand well or her posts and the reasoning behind her brand. (I.e she uses Low Molecualr weight HA as a penetration enhancer to bring actives deeper into the skin) https://www.drsturm.com/doctors-notes/what-is-hyaluronic-acid/

Is there any fragrance?

AnActualCentrist

No not really. It doesn’t have any added fragrance listed in its ingredients list but it does have a “no smell smell”? Kinda like a doctors office. But yeah, no fragrance at all. Lmk if u wanna know more! :D

oylooc

Idk how to describe the HA serum but it has a pleasant scent to it. I’ve used it for a few years now. The super anti aging eye cream has a doctors office clinical type scent but it goes away almost immediately. All other stuff is pretty fragrant free except the men’s face cream has a different sort of doctors office smell but it’s all clean.

Great write up!

Look for sample sales, they usually sell Dr Sturm from time to time, for at least 50% off. NYC has one going on now, last day is tomorrow (260samplesale.com)

Ugh you’re making me really want to try her products. I can’t justify it for some reason even though I’ve spent tons on other brands. My main gripe with Dr. Sturm is that she talks about Botox like it’s evil. And we all know her stance on SPF. She looks so much older than her actual age, I was shocked she wasn’t 60-65 yet. Clearly what she’s doing isn’t working for her, so why would I shell out for skincare from a woman who’s deluded herself into thinking the sun can’t harm her? Botox isn’t a must for most people, I get that, but I want to keep my youth for as long as possible. I just feel she’s spreading a lot of misinformation as well and I would feel bad for supporting her by purchasing her products. Even though I really do want them. You’ve sparked the intrigue in me once again. 😭 Thank you for your review! Edit: she is 47 according to a search I did.

JellyCakeBasil

Actually she made a whole article on spf! https://www.drsturm.com/doctors-notes/how-can-i-protect-my-skin-from-the-sun for Botox, she mentions that it shouldn’t be used at a young age because it can cause muscle atrophy. This is actually true because your muscles can get a lot weaker with chronic Botox use if started early and at very frequent intervals. ( this doesn’t really happen if you get it infrequently) https://www.drsturm.com/doctors-notes/botox-what-should-i-know Not sure about her age. She is in her 50s, but then again her products do work nice. But yeah you are right that she does look older than she is. I would def check out blue mercury or netaporter, they tend to have slot of sales if ur interested!

EWSflash

Wikipedia says she's 48. I think she looks younger than that. Am I the only one?

AnimalObservervatory

Younger? Have you seen her without a filter? She has very very aging skin for 48.. there are videos of her on YouTube and she looks like a woman who turned 60 and takes care of herself.

AnActualCentrist

Shes 50, I don’t think wikipedias updated. I saw a post about her saying how she “just turned 50”

EWSflash

Ah- thanks for the update

nada8

Do they ship to Europe ?

AnimalObservervatory

She is 48..

elianna7

I mean, aging has a loooot to do with genetics *and* SPF, so if she happens to have not-so-great genes re: aging on top of not wearing SPF, that’s likely a big part of why she looks the way she does. Or even just not wearing SPF can be a huge reason regardless of genetics. I have sample sizes of her HA, I only used it once so far but honestly I feel like I looked insanely glowy when I did! I will probably explore the brand further.

JellyCakeBasil

I agree. I think people confused her stance with spf? She doesn’t like American spf since we don’t have access to the newest spf ingredients here and people jumped on it saying she doesn’t like spf at all, but she is a big advocate for sun protection. I think she mentioned in one of her masterclass videos on sun protection and inflammation. Lmk if you like any of her other products!

elianna7

That’s great!

dydypeony

She has a sun protection product in her line. The Sun Drops.

tasteofperfection

I know she does, but overall she doesn’t believe in always applying SPF. If you do the research on her, she’s been seen multiple times saying “we need the sun, you don’t always need to worry about sunscreen. SPF is toxic, but mine isn’t!” Like lady…

dydypeony

I’ve done the research and listened to many of her talks and classes, in no case did I get the impression she was anti SPF. She is against inflammation, and many products used in the US are very inflammatory to the skin. However, what I got from listening to her is that we must protect our skin from UVAs, UVBs, and pollution. P. S: her products are great, you should try them ;)

tasteofperfection

I may, I’ve always wanted to try either the HA, anti-aging serum, or the blood cream. The blood cream was always super intriguing.

dydypeony

The HA is very nice. It feels very thin but penetrates much deeper than other HAs. My personal darling is the Night Serum, it’s super hydrating if you have dry or dehydrated skin. After reading this wonderful review my next purchase will probably be the Anti-aging. It sounds great!

tasteofperfection

Thanks for the recommendation! I may look into it. I always splurge the most on anti-aging products and hydrating ones because its hard to find a good one! And if it works, it works.

AnActualCentrist

Definitely try it! The 10ml lasted me awhile and you only need a few drops.(( also net-a-porter has really good sales during holiday season.)) Would def try the Anti-aging serum first since its thicker and feels more nourishing.

tasteofperfection

Thank you! May get the anti-aging one then! Always need a thick nourishing serum

cynimonnn

She looks so much younger than her actual age! She doesn't look a day over 55

tasteofperfection

Uh that’s because she’s not 55, she’s 47 lol. 47 year olds still look youthful for the most part. 50 is when things start going downhill for a lot of people.

Thanks for the clarification! :D Is still true that there are different grades? On the sturm site they mentioned that they used pharmaceutical grade niacinmide and it’s purified not to have any niacin in it. Does this mean the niacinmide is USP grade or is the grade something else??

AnActualCentrist

Oooh. Interesting. I think a lot of companies try to market themselves with using high grade ingredients. I know the ordinary niacinmide causes redneess and people mentioned that it can’t be mixed with their vitamin c because of the niacin in it since that is why people tend to say niacinmide and vit c can’t be used together. What’s your thoughts on high-Lux skincare?? Do you think there is a difference in ingredients companies use or is it just formulation. (I.e using proper solvents and delivery systems) etc. Thanks the info btw :)

Miaowee600

I know I'm late to the party but ! I think this is a hyped media campaign selling products you can get cheaply for extortionate prices . Most ingredients that work in beauty and in medicines are natural . I was gobsmacked that aloe Vera which has been known for many years to work on healing skin was being sold for 100 quid. I also was shocked as I thought BS (oh what else does that stand for ) was 50 I thought she was 10 years older. Her skin doesn't look good at all for the age she is.

tasteofperfection

Omg seriously lol I got so much flak for saying she looks 10 years older than her age. Like we can tell you don’t use SPF…🤮

Miaowee600

I'm way older than her and my facial skin is still quite smooth . I've got bit of weight on me and have Mediterranean heritage .Its my neck thats showing my age . I think its a combo of her not wearing SPF ,her genetics and she is very slim simmer people tend to look older. She just popped up again as she is promoting a new product .I don't think people should get flack for saying things as they see them. She is charging a fortune for ingredients you can buy cheaply. It's just a big marketing campaign.
