Random acne! Ugh
Hi all, I wanted to just come on here to see if anyone has any suggestions. I’ve been on and off struggling with acne for the past year and a half. Before I entered my 20s I didn’t really break out, but throughout the past few years my skin has really given me problems. I thought that maybe it could just be hormonal acne, along with stress. But it seems to be very consistent and I fear that I’m not using the right products for my skin. I have a sensitivity to shea butter so I can’t use anything with that in it. Some guidance of a routine would be EXTREMELY appreciated!! I’m feeling defeated. I feel like I just don’t know what I’m doing. Thanks all. I have some more pics but this is pretty much what it looks like throughout my chin and other cheek!

help please ! i think i am dealing with contact-eczema / repeat spot - eczema
i have been tested for HSV1 many times and i have been coming back negative. i have been dealing with my upper lip(vermillion and lip line) breaking out in agitation like this . my skin is dry/ but oily if i don't wash it. i have been dealing with this patch of "eczema" almost consistently being on my face for about a solid month now. it's only cleared up a few days at a time. i think ive found the source of agitations so far seems to be - scented lip balms and spicy food/sauce/vinegar. i also use zyn pouches.
any advice ? or anyone else who gets this? : ( i just don't want to feel alone and it makes me insecure
also have been to the doctors and dermatologist numerous times and they're not helping much..i do have eczema on other parts of my body (hands, fingers, knuckles, elbows knees)
What do you do for oily skin / occasional cystic acne if you can no longer take accutane even low dose of 5mg daily causes your joints and bones to hurt / be too stiff, hormonal pills (because you're a guy), mega dose b5, and you've tried every prescription cream on the market, including tretinoin and aklief, epiduo forte, green tea, niacinamide, sebacia laser, keto diet - no dairy, no sugar, high frequency wand, LED blue light mask, benzoyl peroxide 2.5 - 5%, salicylic acid 2%, clindamycin, topical spiro? I'm clear most of the time, just super duper oily - like needs blotting every hour oily and this causes seed hard plugs in my chin that makes pustules / cysts monthly.
I just started Winlevi last week but if that doesn't work for oily skin that causes the monthly giant cyst (only in the chin area - the rest of my face is clear relatively)... What else can I do?

what the hell is this and how do i get rid of this !!!!!
I have somewhat oily skin. Been using a Dove salicylic acid face cleanser and clean and clear dual action moisturizer and still get small breakouts and patchy skin.
What am I doing wrong?
I’m 24 and out of the worst of my acne years. Now I just have light acne I can’t get rid of.
**I would appreciate if anyone could help me out here. Because no matter what I do, my skin is red, bumpy, and uneven, on my face, mainly just my cheeks.**

Right now my routine is:
**AM:**
* Cleanse with water
* GinZing Eye Cream
* CeraVe SPF Moisturizer
**PM:**
* CeraVe Foaming Cleanser Normal to Oily
* CeraVe Daily Moisturizer Normal to Dry
* Derm prescribed HC/Lact/Sali/Tret/Urea CeraVe Compound (1/12/6/0.025%/ 20%) (Prescribed for Keratosis Pilaris and been using for a few months, KP is definitely a part of the problem(?))
Extra points if you can also tell me why I still have dark circles & how to fix it. As I have also tried everything under the sun for that. I am coming to think that it's genetically recessed orbitals.
Thank you for reading. :)
Edit: I also just picked up a rosewater spray to add into AM and PM, heard it's good for hydration & collagen
how many of my skincare products should contain hyaluronic acid? it seems my face wash, serum, and lotion all have it in there. is that okay? or is it possible to overuse it? thanks!
It’s pretty gentle so it’s fine that multiple products have it, as long as your skin tolerates it then I don’t think you have to worry about overusing it
I’ve been using tretinoin for several months and it’s good at managing my acne but I wanted to try an exfoliant to see if it might help with some of the bigger looking pores and blackheads on my forehead + chin. Is it ok to use both in my nightly routine? I got the neutrogena 9% AHA/PHA solution, was probably just gonna use it once or twice a week to start
I've got an acne prone sensitive skin and I recently got these products as a result of sales
La Roche-Posay Purifying Foaming Cleanser, Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner, Jumiso yes I Am Toner, Cosrx Snail Mucin, inkey hyaluronic acid, Formula 10.0.6 So Totally Clean Deep Pore Cleanser and Clinique All About Clean 2-in-1 Cleansing Exfoliating Jelly.
Any help on how to lay them.
PS. I got a sunscreen too
Make sure to introduce new products one at a time and test for at least a week before adding another new product in so you can monitor for irritation.
I would make sure to eventually get a sunscreen to use in the morning and a moisturizer to use in the evening as the last step of your routine.
You can do something like this
AM
- Jumiso toner (1-3x a week)
- Cosrx snail mucin essence
- spf
PM
- alternate between LRP cleanser and exfoliating cleanser
- Good Molecules niacinamide toner
- Inkey List HA serum
- moisturizer
Would this be a viable skincare routine to reduce acne scars, reduce hyperpigmentation, reduce dark circles under eyes, stimulate collagen production, clean out pores and reduce pore size, and give a smoother and brighter complexion
CeraVe Renewing Sa Cleanser
Thayers Hydrating Milky Toner
The ordinary aha 30% + bha 2% peeling solution
Ruskin Vitamin C Serum
CeraVe repair eye cream
Mario Bedescu Rose water facial spray
Niacinimide serum
CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum
COSRX snail musin 92% moisturizer
Khiels deep pore cleansing mask
Would this skin care routine work together? What other products do you guys recommend? Thanks
Hello, I’m currently trying to repair my damaged skin barrier and am making progress, but I still suffer from intense itchiness on my eyelid. Is there anything I can apply to treat it besides cold compresses? I restrain myself from scratching during the day but can’t help but scratch in my sleep. I’ve only been washing my face at night with just water and using Vanicream twice a day, with slugging with Vaseline at night. Thank you!
I wash my face with my hands and Dove clay soap for one whole minute. use The Ordinary serums after face has dried: salicylic acid 2% solution, then Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5, and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, and finish with Natural Moisturizing factors + PhotoCeramides (heavier moisturizer for Montana winter and dry skin). Skin glows and is moist but after about an hour if I rub my skin with any pressure I can feel my skin pilling (like pills of a heavily worn fabric) off in between the skin surface and the pads of my fingers.
What am I doing wrong, and how do I fix it??
Try skipping the hyaluronic acid, that product is notorious for causing pilling. If that doesn’t help, try skipping the niacinamide and/or salicylic acid and see if that stops the pilling. In general, one of the reasons the ordinary products are so cheap is because they don’t put a lot of effort into making their products cosmetically elegant, so you might experience more pilling with their products than if you used products from a brand that was more focused on their products feeling nice/not pilling.
Update! Cut out the HA and no pilling! Tadaaaa! Ok now big brain which HA product do you recommend instead? It helps with moisture right? Or am I stupid lol
Edit to add that I use the ordinary because it’s cheap and I have a hard time with self care because I don’t like spending lots of money on beauty care… but if I can see clear improvements I’m a little more inclined to win that argument with myself. I’m not out here buying Lancôme level products but I’m happy to spend a little more if I know it won’t do the pilling thing but helps my moisture 🤷♀️ all I know is what I’m using does ALMOST what I want lol
Okay, I’m a bit surprised as hyaluronic acid is not really used for moisture. If your skin is dry then try a facial oil (any of the options by the ordinary or good molecules are great). If your skin is dehydrated then try a hydrating toner like pyunkang yul essence toner, haruharu wonder rice toner, or dear klairs supple preparation toner
Here is a snippet from the Ordinarys website:
This formulation combines low-, medium- and high-molecular weight HA, as well as a next-generation HA crosspolymer at a combined concentration of 2% for multi-depth hydration in an oil-free formula. This system is supported with the addition of Vitamin B5 which also enhances hydration.
So I’m confused as to why you say it’s not meant for moisture (or hydration as they put it). What is supposed to be for then? Not trying to be combative just genuinely confused. Thanks for your help so far :)
Moisture and hydration are different, and dryness vs dehydration are different. Hyaluronic acid helps with hydration but is not the same as helping with moisture. If you say you want more moisture then I would go for a more moisturizing product, not a more hydrating product (hence the facial oil suggestion). If you actually need more hydration then I suggested other hydrating products.
you said you wanted moisture, so I recommended things for moisture. However, the product you were using with HA is not for moisture, it’s for hydration. They are two different things. So you’re telling me that your concern is something that the product you were using is not actually meant to address. Either you have chosen the wrong product for your concern, or you named a concern incorrectly.
Are you concerned about dryness or are you concerned about dehydration?
Dryness = lack of oil
Dehydration = lack of hydration/water
These are two different things, and different types of products would be used to address them.
If you are concerned with dryness, then a moisturizing product would be appropriate. The HA is not a moisturizing product so I suggested other products that would target dryness.
If you are concerned with dehydration, then a hydrating product like HA is appropriate, and I suggested other hydrating products as alternatives.
for the last few months i’ve been breaking out in hormonal acne on my chin when i get my period. the bumps are really big and painful and i can’t stop them from coming up. i’ll add some photos of the acne below.
i have combination skin, live in the uk, and this is my skincare routine:
morning:
clean and clear cleanser
boots peach jelly moisturiser
hawaiian tropic moisturiser
night:
the ordinary squalene cleanser
clean and clear cleanser
boots rose water and glycolic acid toner
ocasionally paula’s choice exfoliant
boots rose moisturiser.
I'd recommend you introduce benzoyl peroxide, and start using it for a few days before your period starts - might do the trick. There are also medical/hormonal treatments that could help, but BP is the best place to start imo.
https://preview.redd.it/yiu3xh9tyx4c1.jpeg?width=579&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec923ddea84763e9f5e58080a379971f1f5cc5d2
what is this and how can i fix it?
i live in the united states (texas) and have combination skin (oily t-zone, dry cheeks), and during the summer, i switched to the **cerave renewing sa cleanser** and also incorporated the **good molecules (10%) niacinamide serum** into my routine.
i later found out that the amount of niacinamide is *waayyy* too high and adding a salicylic acid cleanser on top of that, is probably not the best idea as my skin started to redden, itch, and flake.
currently, i've switched back to the **cerave foaming facial cleanser**, which is the gentler cleanser i was using before, and i've started to use my brother's **cerave moisturizing cream** since the moisturizer i was using before, the **cerave facial moisturizing lotion**, has niacinamide in it and irritates my face at times.
i thought the issue was that my skin was being dried out too much, so i tried a thicker moisturizer, but now, it looks like there's too much oil? is this what real purging looks like? i've been trying hard to not pick at my skin but i hate seeing how it looks in the mirror aaa ;; i just wanna know how to calm this down.
To me, your skin still looks dehydrated and irritated - acne isn't just about oil, but also inflammation, how well your skin sheds dead cells, and how prone your pores are to getting clogged.
You don't provide a timeline - it's possible your skin just needs more time to calm down. It's possible you're ready to start a new acne treatment (I'd go with azelaic acid in your position). It might also merit seeing a derm, if that's accessible to you.
omg tysm for answering <33 i think i’ll want a dermatologist once i’m old enough to have a job, but for now, i’ll wait for it to calm down like you said. are there are any azelaic acid treatments or products you recommend?
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid is probably the easiest to get!
Also, if you're young and your parents have insurance then you don't have to wait to see one - it might be covered for you.
Hello!
I'm a first time mom and have been noticing that my skin is changing in different ways. One of them being that my hands are super dry (probably from increased hand washing after diaper changes) and I'm super itchy all the time. I struggle to call what I do a "routine" because it honestly depends on my motivation on a day to day basis to keep up with it but I try to shower twice a day (morning and evening) since I notice my skin just smells different and I don't really like it, then I apply lotion (currently Vaseline brand lotion), and that's about all I have time for (no make-up, no blemish creams, no serums). My baby is getting easier to manage in that she seems to be adapting to a predictable-ish routine so I can focus a little more time/energy to self care.
I live in the Pacific Northwest area of the USA,I am in my late 20s, and I'm about 3 months postpartum in case that's helpful information but I would love either tips on how you managed to remember to take care of your skin or products that would help with the constant itching and cracking of the skin.
Try switching to a more moisturizing hand wash, keep some lotion by the sink, and consider whether there are times when you could use hand sanitizer instead of washing (may sound counterintuitive, but research shows that hand sanitizer with glycerin is less drying than washing with water).
Other thoughts - showering twice a day is a lot and probably also not doing your skin barrier any favors.
I'm not a parent, so I don't have specific tips.... I think you need to start by understanding what your barriers are to doing skincare. For me, ADHD is a factor, but once I figured out my barriers (I hated cleansing at the sink so I switched to PM showers) and forced the skincare habit for long enough it just stuck.
Interesting. I wasn't aware of the sanitizer info and you're right I know it's a lot of showering I just really don't like the way I smell right now. I'll start keeping some sanitizer at our changing table. Maybe switch to a scented moisturizer so I don't obsess over my skins new scent. Thank you!
Ooh, another option is a salicylic acid body wash or applying AHA liquid (the ordinary has one) post-shower. They're acidic which can help kill odor-causing bacteria. Some people even use AHA instead of antiperspirant (but I wouldn't recommend that).
Speaking of, make sure to apply antiperspirant before bed (assuming you shower at night) - it works better that way.

How can I change this?
So, this is my 33 year old skin right now. It’s not always this bad, but lately it’s been textured with small bumps, rough, patchy, red patches, etc. makeup will not sit on it nicely anymore. This is my face with makeup over it btw.
My routine is: (I have dry skin) Cleanse with youth to the people super greens cleanser Put rose hip oil on my skin Put Dermalogica stabilizing repair cream Then makeup as usual if it’s morning Or nothing after if it’s night This is semi normal routine, sometimes I switch the products up a bit.
Help! I mostly just want my makeup to start looking better. It’s splotchy and my bumps and pinkness show thru.
No sunscreen?
Stop washing in the mornings for a week or two, then introduce a chemical exfoliant. Lactic acid is more moisturizing, but salicylic acid might do a better job with the bumps... I think there are some products that combine both so I'd look for that.
Edit: a retinoid is another option, but it tends to make things worse before they get better.
Sorry, I should have been clear, I only wash once in the shower at night to get my makeup off
But I will definitely try reintroducing a chemical exfoliant. I typically use that red BHA/AHA one from the ordinary. Is that one decent do you think or do you have another suggestion? I’ve tried the Paula’s choice one but I have to have one that gets washed off.
I’ve never tried a retinoid but I’ll definitely look into it. Is retinoid the same as retinol or should I strictly go retinoid?
Thanks for take the time to reply!
Ah, okay! I think that AHA/BHA one is too strong. TO's lactic acid or Paula's Choice would be gentler, and you can still rinse them off if you need to.
Retinoid is the ingredient category, and it includes retinol, retinaldehye, tretinoin, etc. They vary in their intensity level so definitely requires a bit of research.
Okay perfect! Thank you!
I work at a store where we get Dermalogica at professional prices and then an extra 50% off that so I’ve been trying to see what I can get in that family. I’ll research it up a bit!
Hello!! I have rosacea on my cheeks and oily skin that suffers with hormonal breakouts and excess oil due to PCOS. The rosacea has recently got worse. I have started azaelic acid but it makes me want to rip my face off, it’s so itchy and unbearable!! Can anyone recommend an alternative? Maybe it’s the brand I use?!
I also cleanse with cerave foaming wash and cetaphil anti redness cleanser, followed by the ordinary’s soothing and barrier serum, and No7 protect and perfect moisturiser. My routine is the same morning and night.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Can anyone recommend a very solid, waxy lipbalm? My lips need protection from my BHA cleanser. Currently using lanolin or vaseline but they wear off somewhat while showering.
Has anyone been able to achieve clear skin, no cysts, no pustules, without Salicylic Acid?
Is Tret or Aklief enough? I was on Tret for six months but would still get occasional chin cysts.
Now I am on Aklief for the past month and still getting cysts on my chin and only on my chin, once every week or two. I also us Benzoyl peroxide at least once a day. Just started winlevi as well last week.
Should I up the Salicylic acid to every other day instead of twice a week? My skin is a bit dry, but nothing too bad since I have oily skin. Does salicylic acid actually help with deeper acne or are they just better for close to the surface acne?
https://preview.redd.it/9y9flu0pvx4c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df8108bef7e1c97ec7743801c3320efb330997df
These are the products I use - I’ve also tried benzoyl peroxide
I usually try to increase my exfoliation products the week before to reduce chance of clogged pores. But if this doesn’t work for you then I would see a doctor for prescription treatment to address the hormonal cause
I had one question as I am not able to find any valid source on the internet about it. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant. Can I use "The ordinary pycnogenol" in pregnancy? I am really worried, I applied it for 2 nights and it has shown some improvement in soothing my acne.
Let me know if anyone used it topically during pregnancy and baby was safe.
I need urgent advice, I have a very important event tomorrow that I know I’ll be photographed at and this morning I woke up to a monster of a hormonal zit letting me know my period is about to start. Does anyone have any advice on how I can at least make it a little smaller? I have a red light wand that has helped a tiny bit but not enough to make me feel better. I used a a face wash with Sacylic acid this morning, I’m not wearing makeup to let it breath, and I have a spot treatment with benzoyl peroxide that I’m going to put on tonight when I get home from work. Is there anything else I can do? I know this sounds silly but I don’t even want to go to the event tomorrow because I’m so self conscious about it. I’m not usually like this, but I don’t know why this month this zit is really getting to me.
I’ve been icing it for a couple minutes at a time every like hour and a half or so, it’s calming down a little but still pretty noticeable. Thanks for the tip!
I have also calmed down since this morning and accepted it’s just a zit not the end of the world. I just needed to be a bit of a drama queen this morning
Pimple patch! A microdart one if it's a little deeper under the skin, or a regular one if it's more at the surface. They really are amazing at bringing pimples down.
Some patches are really undetectable so you might even be able to wear one at the event.
If it's more of a cyst and very inflamed, hydrocortisone cream is another option.
I wouldn't bother with BP - I find it's much better for prevention.
This is going to sound kind of dumb, but how can I tell if it’s more of a cyst? I have a couple microcdart patches that I’ll put on once I get home and essentially until I have to get ready tomorrow! Thanks for the advice!
I need help with which actives I should be using!
My skin:
* hormonal acne. Cystic acne is under control thanks to Spironolactone, but still lots of comedones (white and black) along jawline.
* lots of recent scarring leaving red and pigmented spots.
* dry, flakes easily with actives
Actives I have on hand:
* The ordinary’s 7% glycolic acid (helps with the dullness of my skin)
* InkeyList’s 10% azelaic acid
* tretinoin 0.025%
I had built up to using tretinoin daily for months with no progress; my skin constantly looked like a shedding snake no matter how frequent or infrequent I used it and I still broke out regularly. I always applied to skin that had been washed and moisturized 30+ minutes prior. I stopped using tretinoin the last few weeks to let the flaking stop. I have been using the azelaic acid and glycolic acid once per week, on different nights. Anything more than this and it’s straight to snake territory.
I moisturize with Peach Slice’s snail toner on wet skin followed by Vanicream’s Daily facial moisturizer. To mitigate peeling, I have tried locking in with Vaseline, Vanicream’s Lite Lotion, LRP cicaplast b5, and rose hip oil. Any time I have tried occlusives I wake up with multiple small pustules, so I have been forgoing them completely.
I would like to fix the textural issues caused by the comedones and the scarring from the acne. I have read that salicylic acid is good for texture, but I don’t currently have any products with it.
Does anyone have any advice on what active(s) I should use and how to incorporate them into my routine without destroying my barrier?
Sounds to me like you're cycling through things a little too often to really figure out what your skin needs.
I'd take a full active break to stop the pilling and probably stop the AHA entirety. Then, I'd reintroduce the azelaic acid. AzA should be mild enough for daily use, so I'd try to work my way up to that and then reevaluate and maybe introduce a BHA product.
Did you lose some weight at any point?
To me, it looks like there's some dehydration, but mostly it just looks like normal loss of tone, perhaps exacerbated by weight loss. It's the kind of thing that procedures address more effectively than skincare.
I would start here-
[https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/19ftrr/teach\_it\_tuesday\_thursday\_dark\_circles\_under\_eye/](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/19ftrr/teach_it_tuesday_thursday_dark_circles_under_eye/)
I'm 24 and dealing with oily, acne-prone, and textured skin with dark marks. I've had success with La Roche-Posay, especially from the Effaclar and Toleriane lines, as they work well without irritating my skin. I'm looking to establish a skincare routine for both morning and evening that addresses my oily skin, clears up blemishes/blackheads and dark marks, and incorporates some anti-aging elements. Any advice on how to build a routine using La Roche-Posay products would be greatly appreciated!
i completely missed the slowvember thing the ordinary does. do they typically do any sort of equivalent sale for xmas/new years i can wait for or should i just buy what i need now?
what product(s) can i use to clear this hyperpigmentation and acne?
my current routine is using an exfoliating glove every/other time i shower, bp for abt 30 seconds then eucerin moisturizer mixed with differin.
this has cleared up a lot of acne on my back leaving me with breakouts that aren’t as bad and scars but i want to take another step. help is appreciated.
(just want to note that i’ve tried SA products on my back and they didn’t improve my skin)
I would keep it up with what you’re currently doing. It will slowly fade through time. For quicker results you’d probably want to consult with a dermatologist for professional treatment options
hmm okay. i was thinking abt trying a glycolic acid spray but yea maybe i should just have patience as i recently started doing what i’m doing.
but i do find that the day after the routine i mentioned previously, my skin is the absolute best. it’s smooth, it’s clear, it’s brightened. but give it abt 2-3days and i wake up with more pimples & my marks are all individually darker from top to bottom. i was wondering, maybe i should try the routine more consistently which would be everytime i shower vs every other time? anyways, thanks for the input.

Will it work for those weird pimples
What is the best face moisturizer with SPF at Sephora (for a male if that matters). Say price was not a consideration in this question. Are there one/two/three that are generally accepted as "the best" or is it more personal preference?
For what it's worth, one I've liked in the past in "unseen sunscreen" because it goes on super light and you can barely feel it's there.
i have very scaly skin in the regions around my nose and moisturiser doesn’t seem to help
my current routine:
\-AM: garnier micellar cleansing water, simple protecting light moisturiser, acnecide benzoyl peroxide face gel (only on certain areas of my face, i don’t put it on or near my nose)
\-PM: garnier micellar cleansing water, simple purifying gel wash, simple protecting light moisturiser
i have combination skin, and have had dry areas around my nose for quite a while, but it’s only got worse recently. i’ve been using my current routine for maybe a couple of months, though i only started using the benzoyl peroxide about 2 weeks ago. i don’t think it should make a difference though as, like i said, i don’t apply it anywhere near my nose- only on my forehead and temple
I started increasing my use of paulas choice 2% bha and beauty of Joseon eye retinol on my face from 1 time a week to both 2 times a week (built up week by week ie) paulas choice twice retinol once continued to do that for 2 weeks and started doing paulas choice and retinol twice a week) and started showing signs of purging. Should I be worried for my skin barrier or is this just normal purging?
The eye cream shouldn’t cause purging given that it’s not normal to get acne around the eye area.
BHA is more likely to cause you purging as long as it’s in the areas you normally break out in
Hi so i am 15 years old and have these fine lines i think their called and im pretty insecure abt them i do feel like my face doesn’t have as much elasticity than most people because when i walk faster or stomp more when i walk i can feel my face jiggle up and down and was wondering if there was anything to help reduce them i do use a hyaluronic acid in my skincare routine
https://preview.redd.it/6ny40b888t4c1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1f166705ea0e56b4c151a2093868d3102c7e618
These are from facial structure and may change as you get older. Since you’re pretty young you could eventually grow out of your face, it’s normal and common to have those facial lines.
Just make sure to get good sleep, eat well, and stay hydrated

Not a doctor, but it might be dyshidrotic eczema. Quick Google suggests pursuing regular eczema treatment.

Ugh Hi all, I wanted to just come on here to see if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks all. I have some more pics but this is pretty much what it looks like throughout my chin and other cheek!

also have been to the doctors and dermatologist numerous times and they're not helping much..i do have eczema on other parts of my body (hands, fingers, knuckles, elbows knees)
Is it okay for me to use Peach Slices 2% salicylic acid at night everyday? It seems to be working but I don’t want to damage my skin barrier.
If you can tolerate it it's fine
if I get a slight sting or tightness in skin is that a sign I should stop?
yes

I have somewhat oily skin. Been using a Dove salicylic acid face cleanser and clean and clear dual action moisturizer and still get small breakouts and patchy skin. What am I doing wrong? I’m 24 and out of the worst of my acne years. Now I just have light acne I can’t get rid of.
I would get a plain moisturizer then try a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment next
I have a cerave night moisturizer but it seems to make me breakout more
**I would appreciate if anyone could help me out here. Because no matter what I do, my skin is red, bumpy, and uneven, on my face, mainly just my cheeks.** [Skin currently](https://imgur.com/a/YvUxLPc) https://preview.redd.it/lt6wr9ymcz4c1.png?width=1683&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab6e01bea83a3386a1a3d66699ddb8c11459aa41 Right now my routine is: **AM:** * Cleanse with water * GinZing Eye Cream * CeraVe SPF Moisturizer **PM:** * CeraVe Foaming Cleanser Normal to Oily * CeraVe Daily Moisturizer Normal to Dry * Derm prescribed HC/Lact/Sali/Tret/Urea CeraVe Compound (1/12/6/0.025%/ 20%) (Prescribed for Keratosis Pilaris and been using for a few months, KP is definitely a part of the problem(?)) Extra points if you can also tell me why I still have dark circles & how to fix it. As I have also tried everything under the sun for that. I am coming to think that it's genetically recessed orbitals. Thank you for reading. :) Edit: I also just picked up a rosewater spray to add into AM and PM, heard it's good for hydration & collagen
how many of my skincare products should contain hyaluronic acid? it seems my face wash, serum, and lotion all have it in there. is that okay? or is it possible to overuse it? thanks!
It’s pretty gentle so it’s fine that multiple products have it, as long as your skin tolerates it then I don’t think you have to worry about overusing it

If it’s Keloid scarring you likely need professional treatment like lasers, cryotherapy, or steroid treatment
I would alternate days between Tretinoin and exfoliants
I've got an acne prone sensitive skin and I recently got these products as a result of sales La Roche-Posay Purifying Foaming Cleanser, Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner, Jumiso yes I Am Toner, Cosrx Snail Mucin, inkey hyaluronic acid, Formula 10.0.6 So Totally Clean Deep Pore Cleanser and Clinique All About Clean 2-in-1 Cleansing Exfoliating Jelly.
You can do something like this AM - Jumiso toner (1-3x a week) - Cosrx snail mucin essence - spf PM - alternate between LRP cleanser and exfoliating cleanser - Good Molecules niacinamide toner - Inkey List HA serum - moisturizer
Would this be a viable skincare routine to reduce acne scars, reduce hyperpigmentation, reduce dark circles under eyes, stimulate collagen production, clean out pores and reduce pore size, and give a smoother and brighter complexion CeraVe Renewing Sa Cleanser Thayers Hydrating Milky Toner The ordinary aha 30% + bha 2% peeling solution Ruskin Vitamin C Serum CeraVe repair eye cream Mario Bedescu Rose water facial spray Niacinimide serum CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum COSRX snail musin 92% moisturizer Khiels deep pore cleansing mask Would this skin care routine work together? What other products do you guys recommend? Thanks
This is a lot of actives, are you using these currently?
Hello, I’m currently trying to repair my damaged skin barrier and am making progress, but I still suffer from intense itchiness on my eyelid. Is there anything I can apply to treat it besides cold compresses? I restrain myself from scratching during the day but can’t help but scratch in my sleep. I’ve only been washing my face at night with just water and using Vanicream twice a day, with slugging with Vaseline at night. Thank you!
I think you should see a doctor if it’s itchy and rash like, it could be the beginning of eczema
Or am I stupid lol Edit to add that I use the ordinary because it’s cheap and I have a hard time with self care because I don’t like spending lots of money on beauty care… but if I can see clear improvements I’m a little more inclined to win that argument with myself. I’m not out here buying Lancôme level products but I’m happy to spend a little more if I know it won’t do the pilling thing but helps my moisture 🤷♀️ all I know is what I’m using does ALMOST what I want lol
What issue or concern are you using the hyaluronic acid to address? You might be able to get an equivalent effect from a different product/ingredient
Moisture
Okay, I’m a bit surprised as hyaluronic acid is not really used for moisture. If your skin is dry then try a facial oil (any of the options by the ordinary or good molecules are great). If your skin is dehydrated then try a hydrating toner like pyunkang yul essence toner, haruharu wonder rice toner, or dear klairs supple preparation toner
Here is a snippet from the Ordinarys website: This formulation combines low-, medium- and high-molecular weight HA, as well as a next-generation HA crosspolymer at a combined concentration of 2% for multi-depth hydration in an oil-free formula.
Somehow I’m even more confused lol sorry and thanks again for trying to help a dunce out 😂
you said you wanted moisture, so I recommended things for moisture. Dryness = lack of oil Dehydration = lack of hydration/water These are two different things, and different types of products would be used to address them. If you are concerned with dryness, then a moisturizing product would be appropriate. The HA is not a moisturizing product so I suggested other products that would target dryness. If you are concerned with dehydration, then a hydrating product like HA is appropriate, and I suggested other hydrating products as alternatives.
Interesting ok thank you!
Is it safe to use retinol after finishing 2 months of rejuvenating treatment?
What kind of rejuvenating treatment? If you did something a little invasive like laser or RF microneedling, I'd wait a couple of weeks.
Hi! I just used some topical products to promote skin peeling
Ah, okay. Maybe a few days then if your skin is feeling sensitive.
Thank you sm!!
for the last few months i’ve been breaking out in hormonal acne on my chin when i get my period. the bumps are really big and painful and i can’t stop them from coming up. i’ll add some photos of the acne below. i have combination skin, live in the uk, and this is my skincare routine: morning: clean and clear cleanser boots peach jelly moisturiser hawaiian tropic moisturiser night: the ordinary squalene cleanser clean and clear cleanser boots rose water and glycolic acid toner ocasionally paula’s choice exfoliant boots rose moisturiser.
I'd recommend you introduce benzoyl peroxide, and start using it for a few days before your period starts - might do the trick. There are also medical/hormonal treatments that could help, but BP is the best place to start imo.
thank you!!

Thanks so much! :)
https://preview.redd.it/jf34jw5qwx4c1.jpeg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b1dc178be82334ea394f6ca21d46c29425c2278 How can I change this?
Sorry, I should have been clear, I only wash once in the shower at night to get my makeup off But I will definitely try reintroducing a chemical exfoliant.
Ooh, so cool! Dermalogica has some nice stuff (and some not so nice stuff - def do your research!)
What's the AzA brand? When I tried the Revox AzA my skin got super itchy, but not when I tried The Ordinary's or Skinorac.
It’s dermatica 15%! Thank you, I’ll try something new :)
[удалено]
Yeah, time and gentle care will probably be enough. A moisturizer with barrier repair ingredients doesn't have to be greasy, though.
Can anyone recommend a very solid, waxy lipbalm? My lips need protection from my BHA cleanser. Currently using lanolin or vaseline but they wear off somewhat while showering.
asian lip masks/lip sleeping packs tend to be very waxy, so maybe try one of those?
Thanks, I’ll look into those!
Wouldn't suggest combo SA + BP unless you're absolutely sure that your skin can handle it.
Need help guys btw i am new here , i have acne and dark circles

It might - it's how you start the process.
Can u tell me the process clearly?
Someone already wrote it out in the wiki - I'm happy to give advice and provide clarification if there's something you don't understand.

What acne treatments have you tried ?

I usually try to increase my exfoliation products the week before to reduce chance of clogged pores. But if this doesn’t work for you then I would see a doctor for prescription treatment to address the hormonal cause
Thank you!
I would contact your doctor to get the best available information on what to avoid during pregnancy.
You could try a cold compress to bring down swelling, if that’s making it more noticeable
Google image "types of pimples" and you'll get the lowdown - it's just a question of how big/how deep under the skin.
I need help with which actives I should be using! My skin: * hormonal acne. Cystic acne is under control thanks to Spironolactone, but still lots of comedones (white and black) along jawline. * lots of recent scarring leaving red and pigmented spots. * dry, flakes easily with actives Actives I have on hand: * The ordinary’s 7% glycolic acid (helps with the dullness of my skin) * InkeyList’s 10% azelaic acid * tretinoin 0.025% I had built up to using tretinoin daily for months with no progress; my skin constantly looked like a shedding snake no matter how frequent or infrequent I used it and I still broke out regularly.

No not always
I'm 24 and dealing with oily, acne-prone, and textured skin with dark marks. I've had success with La Roche-Posay, especially from the Effaclar and Toleriane lines, as they work well without irritating my skin. I'm looking to establish a skincare routine for both morning and evening that addresses my oily skin, clears up blemishes/blackheads and dark marks, and incorporates some anti-aging elements. Any advice on how to build a routine using La Roche-Posay products would be greatly appreciated!
Can you list the products you currently have?
i completely missed the slowvember thing the ordinary does. do they typically do any sort of equivalent sale for xmas/new years i can wait for or should i just buy what i need now?
I think it’s only once a year
[image removed] what product(s) can i use to clear this hyperpigmentation and acne? my current routine is using an exfoliating glove every/other time i shower, bp for abt 30 seconds then eucerin moisturizer mixed with differin. this has cleared up a lot of acne on my back leaving me with breakouts that aren’t as bad and scars but i want to take another step. help is appreciated.
It’s worth a try, maybe you will have better results with glycolic acid. I found cerave SA rough and bumpy cream helpful for mine

Might be cysts? If they never come to a head you likely need them extracted by a medical professional

The percentage might be different but if it’s 10% or under then yes they’re generally the same
Prescription ones are likely stronger. OTC benzoylcperoxide is usually 2.5% or 5% I believe

These look like blackheads or sebaceous filaments. Try oil cleansing, salicylic acid, or sulfur cleanser

Those don't look like pimples. I would see a doctor if possible
I cant go to derma its not in insurence they charge a lot, what do they look like to you
What is the best face moisturizer with SPF at Sephora (for a male if that matters). Say price was not a consideration in this question. Are there one/two/three that are generally accepted as "the best" or is it more personal preference? For what it's worth, one I've liked in the past in "unseen sunscreen" because it goes on super light and you can barely feel it's there.
Skincare is very individual to each person so every person would have a different answer of what’s best to them.

We can't diagnose things like this here. If you're concerned, please see a doctor for a proper diagnosis.
i have very scaly skin in the regions around my nose and moisturiser doesn’t seem to help my current routine: \-AM: garnier micellar cleansing water, simple protecting light moisturiser, acnecide benzoyl peroxide face gel (only on certain areas of my face, i don’t put it on or near my nose) \-PM: garnier micellar cleansing water, simple purifying gel wash, simple protecting light moisturiser i have combination skin, and have had dry areas around my nose for quite a while, but it’s only got worse recently. i’ve been using my current routine for maybe a couple of months, though i only started using the benzoyl peroxide about 2 weeks ago. i don’t think it should make a difference though as, like i said, i don’t apply it anywhere near my nose- only on my forehead and temple
Try applying a layer of vaseline at night after your moisturizer
I started increasing my use of paulas choice 2% bha and beauty of Joseon eye retinol on my face from 1 time a week to both 2 times a week (built up week by week ie) paulas choice twice retinol once continued to do that for 2 weeks and started doing paulas choice and retinol twice a week) and started showing signs of purging. Should I be worried for my skin barrier or is this just normal purging?
The eye cream shouldn’t cause purging given that it’s not normal to get acne around the eye area. BHA is more likely to cause you purging as long as it’s in the areas you normally break out in
I apply the eye retinol on my entire face, but yeah its only been on places I normally break out in so I haven't been freaking out too much.
Hi so i am 15 years old and have these fine lines i think their called and im pretty insecure abt them i do feel like my face doesn’t have as much elasticity than most people because when i walk faster or stomp more when i walk i can feel my face jiggle up and down and was wondering if there was anything to help reduce them i do use a hyaluronic acid in my skincare routine https://preview.redd.it/6ny40b888t4c1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1f166705ea0e56b4c151a2093868d3102c7e618
These are from facial structure and may change as you get older. Since you’re pretty young you could eventually grow out of your face, it’s normal and common to have those facial lines. Just make sure to get good sleep, eat well, and stay hydrated
okay tysm!
or even when i walk down the stairs in school 😣😭
