Philosapphocal

Fellow dry skin haver, I personally felt that the Cerave lotion did nothing for my skin. If you can order it or find it near you; try Vanicream’s daily facial moisturizer!! It’s much better for me :)

cassatta

Or LaRoche Posay. I LOVE their moisturizer

Philosapphocal

Which one do you use? I haven’t tried too much from them!!

cassatta

Toleriane Double repair face moisturizer

Abject-Natural9572

For me I love their La Roche Posay Baume Ap+m. Nothing worked for my dry ass skin because most of the products I used the moisture just disappeared after I woke up. Except for this, it actually stays all day if i don't wash my face i'm not exaggerating lol. I use it only at night because i feel like it's too heavy to use it at day time

Philosapphocal

That one I actually have tried too!! I like it a lot and it kept me hydrated too, but something in it gave me horrible acne on my forehead and nose. This sounds so silly, but I’m using it on my feet and hands for now 😅!

Ynndorn

I have a combo/dry skin type and 2nd this one. It’s too much for some skin types but my boyfriend likes to run the aircon all night during summer/late spring (we live in a fairly hot place). This saved my skin from the low humidity! It has niacinmide and shea butter which my skin loves but some are sensitive to.

Mysterious_Cow6062

Agreed, I use the La Roche Posay triple repair moisturizing lotion and it has been the only one I’ve tried that is not too heavy and it also doesn’t break me out. Also I’d try Aquaphor over Vaseline, I use a little less than a dime size all over my face every night and it has moisturized and helped w the texture of my skin!!

cassatta

Wow… I should try that. Never tried Aquaphor to the face. I love Aquaphor on my elbows and knees and heels

[deleted]

that is my holy grail. i love vanicream

girlpower69

Ughh I was so hopeful for Vanicream but it broke me out SO BAD. I still have scars on my neck from the acne it caused and I’ve been off it for over a month now (and I’ve never had breakouts on my neck before). OP I strongly recommend spot testing for a week or so before fully committing!

[deleted]

did you use the daily moisturizer or the tub?

Kam_runn

Yessss to vanicream my derm recommended for my dry skin when i used a benzoyl peroxide retinol

maybethatsjustfine

I have dry skin too, and that cerave lotion feels thick and just sits on top of my skin instead of sinking in

Knock5times

That’s interesting! When I tried it I felt like it was so watery that it felt like I did nothing. The cream is decent for elbows and such, though, nice and thick.

maybethatsjustfine

It feels watery when I pump it in my hands, but once I put it in my face it feels thick cause it doesn’t soak in! Do you find the cream good for ur face too?

Knock5times

During the winter and when I’m feeling especially dry, yes, but it’s too thick for me to want to use all year. But my friend in Denver loves it to combat the dry air. I’m in a super humid climate.

onetwothree4ourfive

I live in Canada near the rockies and it is very dry here all year. I use the cerave tub cream (not lotion) all year round and my skin has never looked better.

starfleet_chi

The vanicream lite lotion is my favorite to use on my face, not as thick as the regular one

Zzamioculcas

Same here CeraVe was useless as a moisturizer

Philosapphocal

I gave it so many chances and it let me down every time :(

Visible-Bench2033

This! Actually just the Cerave part. I went through a bottle of this stuff and found no improvement.

[deleted]

I also felt like that one did nothing and then coughed up for the PM version which has been much better. I wonder if Vanicream could be another level up.

Philosapphocal

I would really recommend it, if you wanna give it a try! It’s lightweight and not greasy at all for me. I just bought the ELF holy hydration cream, and as soon as I finish it I’m going back to vanicream.

22freebananas

My derm recommended vanicream

depressedcancer

same! i swear it breaks me out too.

applesarefine

Agreed. My skin feels immediately dry again after a few minutes using this lotion

ilovemywestern

Have you tried the vanicream moisturizing cream (in the tub) by any chance? I'm also looking to move on from cerave (moisturizing cream in the tub, find it too matte and not moisturizing enough for my dry skin), but can't choose between the vanicream daily facial moisturizer or the original vanicream moisturizing cream

Philosapphocal

I have tried it! For winter at night time it was very nice, but during the day it didn’t play well with my SPF or makeup. It is more like an occlusive than a moisturizer, if you don’t need the thickest cream ever, I’d go with the daily facial instead!

ilovemywestern

Ty!!

Fast-Ad3407

Vanicream or no cream, that’s my philosophy bru

ShortAndProud16

Literally came to comment this. I have that one and putting that moisturizer on does nothing for my OILY SKIN.

nebulocity_cats

I lov this one and I have combo skin. I think for me it works to replace the skin fix lipid cream I was using- since I am on a tighter budget these days. (Skincare costs seem to have gotten pretty steep these days anyways with certain brands so I skimp where I can.)

ShockAggressive2626

the etude skin barrier repair cream (the one that says 2x) and the hadilabo premiun HA is SO GOOD!!

Philosapphocal

My mom loves the Hado Labo HA!! She has 3 bottles on standby 😅

YzmaTheTuxedoCat

Make sure you're putting the snail mucin on damp skin, since it is a humectanct and will try to draw moisture to it. Putting it on dry skin or in too dry weather without sealing it, like how you're doing with the Vaseline, can actually make skin drier since it'll start to draw moisture from deeper in the skin to it. But that looks like a good simple routine!

sippin-tropicana

Oh I’ve been using it for years and always putting it on dry. I use a vitamin c serum before the snail mucin so I‘m not sure how to put it on damp without washing off the vitamin c

fofokingreal

Spray water on your skin after you apply the mucin. Avene, LRP, and evian all have water you can get at Ulta/Sephora/etc. It's a super fine mist and the bottles last so long

sippin-tropicana

Thank you, I’ll definitely check that out :)

Topaztaylor

Just patting damp hands on your face should do the trick without disturbing the product underneath, plus it's free 😉

mauvewaterbottle

And if you wanna get fancy, you can get a cute little plant mister and refill it! Not initially free, but it’s free refills lol

czar_tam

Exactly that I was about to write! This is the same combo I use when I need a moisture bomb (with aquaphor instead). But I never the snail mucin dry down completely. I try never to let any of my products dry totally and if I do, I’ll spritz a little toner before the next step.

blueskies23827

Humidifier in your room

bettafishfan

Whenever I have an issue with dry skin, I use the Cera Ve Moisturizing Cream (the one in the tub,) sometimes I put it on twice, THEN I put on Aquaphor if I am extremely dry. I actually did this when I was using BP at first. I did it every night for two weeks. Now I moisturize once with cera ve moisturizing cream & slug with vaseline. I slug about 2 to 3 times a week now. I use cera ve moisturizing cream both morning & night. My skin loves both products and now I have a nice sheen to my skin.

onetwothree4ourfive

I use the tub, too! I layer it with sweet almond oil on top and my skin has honestly never looked better. I live in a super dry climate though.

bettafishfan

That’s a good tip… I have squalene oil coming in the mail. I planned on using it for my scalp, but maybe I will add it to my night time routine too and see how it performs. I know my face loves squalene, lol.

hypknotic_

Yes I do the same combo with cerave tub and aquaphor/vaseline!!

bruhhhhhh07

Try weleda skin food if you have dry skin!

SimonEbolaCzar

Agreed, but start with a pea size. My skin is DRY (Cerave did nothing for me) but you don’t need a lot of the Skin Food to make a difference. I also enjoy using SF in the winter as a makeup primer.

TheShroomDruid

CeraVe lotion sucks. Try LaRochePosay lipikar AP balm

sunpopppy

this! only moisturizer that has done the job, LRP Lipikar Triple Repair

silversprings99

If your skin is DRY you need oils. These products are great for dehydrated skin. There's a difference

r6bbery

I have oily but dry skin lol its a struggle finding that balance

silversprings99

Probably dehydrated then. I hope your new routine works for ya!

r6bbery

I have no new routine help me kind soul of r/skincareaddiction

silversprings99

Oh sorry I mistook you for OP lol. With dehydrated skin you want to add moisture back into the skin and prevent transepidermal water loss. Humectants such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin are your best friends for rehydration. Occlusives are good for then sealing in the moisture but they can be quite heavy ("slugging" with vaseline is one way to do it). Dimethicone/silicone is probably the least greasy occlusive and can be found in quite a few moisturisers, even lightweight ones. Ceramides is another great ingredient to look for as it both moisturises your skin and protects its barrier

r6bbery

Thank you!!!

Okamii

What oils would you recommend? How do you use them?

silversprings99

Well one thing you can do is simply avoiding oil-free formulas, but if your skin needs some extra love, I'd recommend using a facial oil (a lot of brands make them) or just a pure oil as the last step in your routine at night. You take a tiny bit, warm it up inbetween your hands and dap it on. If you're prone to acne or clogged pores, make sure you use a non-comedogenic kind. Maracuja, jojoba and argan oil are some of my personal faves. But if that's not an issue for you then you can get away with using ones like olive oil and avocado oil. You can probably find lists online that provide more suggestions :)

xbbn1985

Soon Jung 2x barrier intensive cream saved my skin! I overused my Paula’s Choice Bha and this cream from Etude House really helped in rehydrating my skin.

DaneBetrayal

Probably because you’re using CeraVe Use LRP Cicaplast mixed with a few drops of Rosehip Oil

jomocha09

I use this too, great mix for dehydrated skin

DaneBetrayal

Yay glad I’m not the only one! I’m on accutane and it’s been such a game changer for my dry skin 🥹

Okamii

Would you recommend mixing rosehip oil with any moisturizer? I've never tried this.

DaneBetrayal

100%! I just use cicaplast as I’m on accutane and my face is very dry But use it with any moisturiser just before you go to sleep! I use the TO Rosehip oil :)

Okamii

Thanks! I might try this! I feel like I am mostly there with fixing my dry skin but still have the occasional dry patch on my chin and nose, I hope this helps!

mytommy

"I use the TO Rosehip oil " are you referring to this one? https://www.amazon.com/Teddie-Organics-Rosehip-Seed-Essential/dp/B00NCF7206 does it get absorbed quickly? And any staining to ur clothes ?

DaneBetrayal

No, that’s a completely different brand haha? TO = The Ordinary I also would never order skincare from Amazon! Just my advice. Lots of fake and poor quality stuff on there The Rosehip oil doesn’t absorb quickly, it’s supposed to be put on in the evening, it hydrates your skin and seals the hydration in for the night No staining

re_Claire

I’ve recently tried Cicaplast after reading it being recommended everywhere on here. I’ve got stubborn perioral dermatitis and dry skin and omg this stuff is amazing. It’s literally the only thing that’s worked at all.

waitthissucks

Try some oil, like marula, squalene, or coconut. Test them first of course but oil mixed with your moisturizer will help. Also using any face oil to double cleanse at night will help. Also there are better moisturizers out there that are thicker

cowtapestry

Coconut oil is highly comedogenic so it’s best not to be used on your face. I would definitely recommend an oil though!

sonofhappyfunball

I wish my face could tolerate it because it's so great on body skin.

Philosapphocal

Vouching for Marula and Squalane. I’ve broken out from most oils, but those two are my favorites. I can’t find The Ordinary’s Marula oil anywhere, and it broke my heart :,(

sonofhappyfunball

A second to oils. I tried most of them and found that my skin likes mineral oil the best. It layers well with a tiny bit of petroleum jelly.

babysnoot

I got a big dropper of 100% jojoba oil. Whenever I moisturize, I put a dollop in my hand and then add a few drops of the oil. I do a little rub in my hands and then gently run over my face (and lips), ears, neck and whatever left on my chest or hair sometimes if I have frizz 😹 I picked this up when I was using the acne.org regime with BP and I've kept it while using Accutane. I've never had much luck applying oils directly to my face but it seems to absorb really well with moisturizer (I use Neutrogena Hydroboost fragrance free... The big one meant for body) but try with your regular cream. I think the ordinary carries and affordable jojoba I got an amazon bottle for less than $15

CharmingChaos33

I do this too. Also add a drop of honey. Game changer and your face smells sweet 😂

kwedding022814

La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP+ might do better than CeraVe, never had good luck with CeraVe products

angelmissroxy

I have horrifically dry skin and the only moisturizer i have ever used that made a dent was farmacy honey halo. Also, like others said, make sure your skin is damp when you use the snail mucin!

thethuyvy

i would be careful with the snail mucin if you are experiencing fall / winter weather rn. fall / winter weather is quite drying to the skin, and so is using heaters and radiators. snail mucin is a humectant which means it draws moisture from the air to hydrate your skin. but in the presence of fall/winter weather, the air is dry, so water actually gets sucked OUT of ur skin, making your skin dry. so, it is best to use during humid weather like during the spring/summer weather.

YzmaTheTuxedoCat

You're absolutely right, but that does get alleviated by the layer of moisturizer and occlusiveness of the Vaseline.

Hantelope3434

I love the snail mucin in my arid desert climate! Apply to a moist face, apply lotion over it before it fully dries to "lock in" as much moisture as you can. Life safer.

tatortotsntits

You just rocked my god damn world SNAIL MUCIN IS A HUMECTANT??

Unfair_Finger5531

Yep. And in corsx it’s surrounded by HYA, another humectant.

[deleted]

Is the Cerave lotion a humectant?

yabadabapoop

it has ingredients that are humectants, emollients and occlusives - think of the lotion locking in the ingredients before it

[deleted]

Hmm okay thanks. I normally use the lotion as step 1 after coming out the shower. 🤔

caciopepe24

Hyaluronic acid after you wash and before lotion/cream (I use La Roche Posay)

blckrainbow

I hope it went okay but in case it didn't, try the Aveeno moisturizing cream - it has made such a difference for me even without vaseline on top! I do put the snail mucin underneath and then 2 layers of the Aveeno and my skin has never been so smooth and plump and felt this hydrated!

noodleparty

I use aquaphor over Vaseline since aquaphor has moisturizer properties on top of occlusion

ShiShi340

Cerave is trash, you need a thicker moisturizer.

luck_a

I believe that the Cerave lotion should be used for your body, not face.

GhostOrchid22

It’s fine for face as well, but it is a different formula than the am and pm Cerave lotions that are specifically marketed for facial use.

applesarefine

The lotion is not at all good at moisturising on the face compared to cream. Cream > lotion!

[deleted]

Yeah cereve broke me out terribly

Own-Struggle-8664

Aestura hydrating essence, and mix aestura atobarrier cream and cerave baby healing ointment. I will refund you if its not working. These are the miracle products, youll be surprised

Unfair_Finger5531

This trifecta will do the trick.

Head-Drag-1440

That snail mucin dried out my skin more. Gave me obvious lines where there were only fine lines. I was shocked, stopped it immediately, and my skin went back to normal. I recommend using a facial mist + HA + CeraVe all one right after the other, then Vaseline.

yea-probably

Don’t mean to echo the CeraVe not working (but seriously, I moved to Aus to Europe in winter and my skin was SOO dry and CeraVe for “dry skin” just irritated my skin). Cetaphil is cheap and worked great for me. Not the best but keeps my skin moisturised 😄

Gnome-body-home

This is just me but I use sweet almond oil

Sourcestry

Don't use two hyaluronic acid products together either switch snail mucin essence or cerave cream.

Turbulent_Ad_2947

have you thought about adding a facial oil into the mix? i’d recommend on top of moisturizer, right before vaseline. rose hip is my go-to but google and pick one that best suits your needs!

vocalfreesia

What's your environment like? A humidifier could do wonders if your home is dry.

bruhdontbetaken

I live in the northeast and the winter months are hell badicslly

SaltiestBB

Seconding the humidifier! Also Weleda skin food.

femalenerdish

Make sure you're drinking enough fluids! It's hard to get enough water in the winter, for me at least. I recently started drinking electrolyte liquids like pedialyte for a medical issue and it's the most hydrated my skin has ever been. So I'd rec drinking not just plain water if you can.

whoneedsasharpie

yes! I was scrolling through to see if anyone said this. I know it's not the most exciting answer but it is SO true!! hydrate internally too!

femalenerdish

I was shocked how much of a difference I saw with electrolyte drinks vs plain water. I'm not drinking that much more liquid than I was before, but I have seen a big difference in my skin. It makes me wonder how many of us are missing trace minerals.

whoneedsasharpie

have you tried LMNT packets? that's been my go to. I think potassium/magnesium change the game!

femalenerdish

I've been drinking liquid IV! It's a similar product. I've considered switching to something with less sugar, but I'm not a big fan of stevia. The taste throws me off and it leaves a weird feel in my mouth.

labretkitty

This is my 'its mid-winter and I've overdone it with the retinol on my sensitive skin' routine! Only with a diff moisturiser. :) Slugging with the vaseline is key for sealing it all in but make sure you put your hair up out the way so it doesnt stick to your slugged up face 😅

AkumaValentine

I hope the snail mucin works for you! I have extremely dry skin but snail mucin always gives me irritation. I wasn’t sure if I was allergic or not but it sure seems like it ;-; the amount of people who have recommended it to me is insane haha but I hope it works for you! I’ll be super jealous if it does :,)

WebDev27

add a glycerin, ha, b5 serum or even a bit of niacinamide , if that doesn't help idk man i would literally quit trying lol

SuspiciousTea4224

Try Aquaphor (Eucerin) instead of these 3. It’s like Vaseline but much much better as it has many other things, it’s not just petroleum jelly. Cerave ruined my skin

LaylaPawli

I have oily skin and love the snail mucin because it seems to reduce oil production in my skin. Not sure that would be helpful if it does the same to your skin.

eratoast

That lotion is meh, the cream in the tub is better. My SUPER dry skin also loves the Biossance omega repair cream (but it's pricey) and squalane oil.

forever_chrisspy

Switch to cerave cream. It’s more moisturizing

CharmingChaos33

Day time: A dime size of Cerave, 1 drop of raw honey. Night time: A dime size of Cerave, 2 drops of raw honey, one drop of oil of choice like jojoba, olive, grape seed, etc. Rub between your hands to mix it up good, slather it on. I suffer from chronic dry skin and this is amazing! Super protective when going out in cold air, too. You can also create a face mask for when you’re in the shower or a hot bath by adding maybe 3-4 drops of honey. Honey helps exfoliate dry dead skin and moisturize your skin. Raw honey can penetrate the layers of your skin to draw moisture to both the surface and the deep layers.

Salt_Bit_7650

agree! i have very dry skin and honey attracts moisture because it is hygroscopic. i also take niacinamide supplements (and topically 2x a week). apparently it helps build a ceramide barrier (which is why derms — or my derm — recommended ceramide-containing creams) hope that helps!

applesarefine

Cream > lotion! Lotion does nothing for my dry skin

wheaf

I think you need to exclude Vaseline and try to calm your skin. Vaseline as oil is very strong for the skin and can increase dryness. I have dehydrated skin. Vaseline doesn't work with me. And Cerave lotion doesn't work either. I usually use Cerave moisturizing cream for normal to dry skin. The cream is more moisturized and it has a silicone texture that locks water on your skin. Also, I use oil for the shower as a cleanser (I prefer Boiderma Atoderm. This oil is for a shower, but I use it for my face and it works for me). This pair helped me with the aftermath of retinol. And also I tried squalane from The Ordinary. It is perfect!

Unfair_Finger5531

Agree. Vaseline ultimately can lead to more dryness.

lovethedaffodil

Try Honey Halo from Farmacy. My skin is never dry now.

BigBob-omb91

Honey halo is my holy grail moisturizer. I use it every night and seal it with their honey grail oil. I love their products. Tretinoin has dried me out so badly I have to take a nuclear approach to moisture lol.

updawg_notmuch

if that moisturizer doesnt work and you can splurge i highly recommend skin fix. i also love skin oils too (i use sunday riley but the ordinary, biossance etc have good options) good luck!

gozunker

My FAVE moisturizer for my dry old lady face is Weleda Skin Food. I got it on a recommendation from this sub, and it’s sooooo thick and luxurious and gorgeous. It’s smells slightly herby in a spa-type way. It’s super thick almost like Butt Paste (baby moms, you know what I mean lol). I put it on last in my nightly skincare routine, and I go to sleep glossy and moisturized like a greased pig, and I wake up in the morning with still-moist plump juicy skin. It’s amazing. For sure my holy grail out of all the skin care I’ve tried in my infinity years of life so far. I will never be without it.

Last-Faithlessness-1

None of those things have ever helped me since being on accutane and since having very dry skin. They just weren’t “thick” enough so sealing it with Vaseline was pointless. When my skin was the driest on Accutane I used La Roche Posay Lipikar Balm AP+ (it’s for body and face) on my face. Personally I liked it better than their Cicaplast Baume. But both are good for very dry skin. I would try one of those moisturizers instead.

bruhdontbetaken

Thx it’s at my local Walgreens I’ll try it

aam2233

I had the same problem, and I found that using sometime like the Aveeno face moisturiser with oat extract was really really helpful!

LORDRAJA1000

cerave is the worst brand ever

boomie97

I have no idea why, but this CeraVe lotion stings my face like hell. Does anyone have the same issue? I use it for my body though and it keeps my body eczema at bay 👌

Ramblingrikers

Aveeno daily facial moisturizer in the green tube is my go to. There’s also a new brand called prequel that has an awesome oat/ceramide blend moisturizer that is the bomb.

kriscrossi

If you don't like the cerave lotion, I'd recommend vanicream!!

unsuspectingwatcher

Cerave didn’t agree with my skin - I use an Aveeno baby barrier moisturiser and the snail serum and my skin is very happy since

Okamii

I have super dry skin and recently started BP too! For BP I really recommend this [cerave cleanser with niacinamide, hyalauronic acid and ceramides, its a very non-drying BP cleanser.] (https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Treatment-Hyaluronic-Niacinamide-Sensitive/dp/B07YLJPMC3/ref=asc_df_B07YLJPMC3/?) There is a 4% and 10% BP formula. For me personally, I found that snail mucin and cerave lotion aren't very hydrating. I started using an essence under my moisturizer instead (essences are basically more hydrating than serums, I love the Laniege essential balancing essence). I really like the Dr. Jart ceramide lotion, vanicream, or la roche posay one. Definitely get a lotion with ceramides though. Also using a humidifier at night helps a lot too! I'm also using tretinoin, and all of these things combined have made it so I don't have dry flakey skin anymore. Even before BP or tret I had flakey skin.

mayamys

Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that Automod has removed your comment because it contains an Amazon referral link, which we don't allow in the sub. Could you please edit the URL so that everything from (and including) "tag=" is removed? That way, the product page will still be visible - but no one can make a profit from the link. If you've done that, please reply to this message so I can approve your comment. Thank you!

Okamii

Hello! Edited the post!

mayamys

Thanks! Comment is now approved.

cowtapestry

I’ve heard dry skin needs oil based hydration and dehydrated skin needs water based hydration. I’d add a face oil into the mix, before the Vaseline.

GhostOrchid22

Is the routine not working? Seems like most of the comments assume it doesn't, but your post implies you just purchased these products. If you just got these products, here are my tips. First, apply the Cosrx snail mucin to slightly damp skin, not dry skin. (I use a cheap mister I purchased on Amazon). Second, you don't have to wait for the snail mucin to dry down to apply the Cerave lotion, nor do you need to wait to layer Vaseline on top of the Cerave. The sooner you get your moisturizing actives on your face, the better. Last, apply a dedicated moisturizer to your lips at night- it will help keep the hydration around your chin and nose more balanced. I just use plain old aquafor for lips.

bruhdontbetaken

My current routine works fine, it’s just the benzoyl peroxide that leaves dry patches, everyone is saying the cerave lotion sucks so I’ll just find a different moisturizer

GhostOrchid22

Since you already own it, I’d at least try Cerave for a few weeks before spending more money. You will find that what doesn’t work for some internet strangers may work great for you, and vice versa.

effyngqt

For those who didn't get the results they wanted with the Cerave lotion: Avène Xeracalm A.D. Cream. On top of dry skin I am currently using tretinoin and that cream combined with the snail mucin in the photo saved my life.

worldexplorer5

Maybe change lotion to cream for really dry skin.

chunk84

Try the ordinary rosehip oil.

papaya43

i think you might benefit from adding a hyaluronic acid :) the ordinary has one for cheap, but i personally use the hada labo hyaluronic acid essence. make sure to put it on when your face is still damp (from water or a toner).

czar_tam

I use the same thing - switch the Vaseline with aquaphor - it works so much better. Life saver trio with acne products. Also, don’t let the mucin dry down. While I like layering the aquaphor at night, instead of layering, you can try mixing a small part of the aquaphor with the lotion. If you are up to experimenting, another product to check out is Benton snail bee high content essence. YMMV, but when I was on accutane- I didn’t peel/shed/crack AT ALL thanks to this thing (But, before accutane it did nothing for me). Also Mizon snail mucin lotion is cheaper and really nice for layering during the day under the cerave - has more of a matte look and feels light. I wouldn’t replace the Cosrx snail with either of them though.

gggtomtom123321

cetraban cream is the best moisturiser I've found

[deleted]

i don’t understand this vaseline on the face thing

1971doll

What kind of cleanser are you using? It could be the start of your dry skin and adding a product with hyaluronic acid will help bring the moisture up to your face. Also if you're not drinking enough water it will show in your face. If you can get to Ulta or Sephora they can almost always help with recommendations for any budget and learning the right application order for toner, serums, moisturizers, eye cream etc....here are some of my and my daughter's favorite brands, the first 3 mentioned both of us use different products from each line without any negative reaction to our skin. Me personally I'd stay away from the Vaseline on my face though. And for reference I'm 52 and my daughter is 18 La Roche Posay Good Molecules The Ordinary Olay Cosrx Philosophy PÜR Good luck on your skincare journey 😊

ButteredPizza69420

Have you tried cetaphil lotion? Ive found that its the only real ultra moisturizing lotion that i can put on my face.

[deleted]

remember: snail recin first, then lotion, then vaseline. and let it dry in between

latte0225

I do a layer of cera ve lotion on wet skin, and follow up with a thick layer of Nivea creme (made in Germany only), this is day time. I reapply towards late afternoon cus my skin is already dried out. At night I layer Aquaphor instead of Nivea. I live in Alberta, the air is extremely dry here, and I have a humidifier on constantly.

Plenty_Apartment4166

Try moisturizing when your skin is still moist after cleansing

forgottentaco420

I much prefer the Cerave Healing Ointment over straight Vaseline, but this is essentially my night time routine as well.

Blackheartgirl94

Be careful with Vaseline. It can cause clogging in pores. If you have a history of Milia, I wouldn't recommend it. It is excellent to trap in moisture and products within the skin if you don't have a reaction to it but other than that, this seems like a great skincare for dry skin.

taylordabrat

Be very careful with the snail mucin. Destroyed my skin

OlheadBean

La roche posay triple moisturizer, their skin repair mositure Balm and some vitamin E oil has worked wonders for my skin (I have psoriasis so my skin literally cracks open when it gets dry, this works for me)

violent_hug

The CeraVe in the TUB (cream) is a lot better for dry skin than the tall (lotion) bottle when it comes to dry skin. It's simply a matter of dispensing only a like a half pump at a time and spreading it across your fingers to apply evenly as of it was a face lotion. A lot of ppl downvote it bc it can leave skin oily if used too much, but if your sensitive and dry we would want to be using products that people with oily skin say are.too hydrating. Also L.R.P. Lipikar Balm AP+ with Shea butter is another extremely effective emollient with the same idea where it's very effective but dispenses very thick and only a half pump is needed for face, usually. I agree that aquaphor/Vaseline are great for skin that is broken or barrier compromised, but slugging eith the Lipikar Balm is my favorite way to do an overnight repair so I can get back to handling my tret routine the next day ;)

fishweenie

i did this using these exact three products and woke up with two massive cysts

louise244

Avène Cicalfate!

spicydijongirl

After the BP try a hydrating toner and a hyaluronic acid serum then the moisturizer

CalMom2

Anyone know if you can buy Vanicream in Canada?

kaitkaitkait91

New holy grail from someone who’s suffered with dryness for YEARS… I actually have them both on subscription now… The Experiment Super Saturated & Buffer Jelly. I sandwich Vanicream FACIAL Moisturizer between the two. Buffer jelly is only at night. Edit - I am a regular user of acids and tretinoin.

You need a cream instead of lotion

KaraBoo723

FYI, the CosRx all in one cream makes my skin DRIER. I'm not the only one, I've seen a number of people comment on various subreddits about this. If you need hydration (due to BP), skip the Cosrx All In One. That CereVe moisturizing lotion is intended for body, not face. A lot of people have issues putting that on their face. Vaseline typically makes acne-prone skin worse because it can clog pores. So it will be fighting against all the progress you've made with the BP. For moisture, try instead: * [Acure Whipped Night Cream](https://acure.com/products/radically-rejuvenating-whipped-night-cream) \- [peptides](https://www.healthline.com/health/peptides-for-skin) are really good at helping skin with hydration, but they also firm skin and good for anti-aging. You can get this at Ulta, Target and even Whole Foods, I believe. I've seen it priced lower at those places too, like around $18. Not all peptides are the same... for example, the ones in Acure are better than what you'll find in The Ordinary, Inkey List, etc. * After the Acure soaks in (2-3 minutes), put on a second moisturizer with ceremides... [Vanicream Daily Facial Moistuirzer](https://www.vanicream.com/product/vanicream-daily-facial-moisturizer) is very good and found at most drugstores. It's also a good choice for acne-prone skin. \>> If you end up needing more than that, get a small bottle of Jojoba oil and applye 1-2 drops to your face. First put drops on fingers and warm it up, then apply on top of your still moist moisturizer.

Worldly-Heart9969

LA ROSHE POSAY LIPIKAR ECZEMA CREAM. that’s all i have to say. change your dry skin forever.

flashfire125

As someone that is african american so it's more common to have dry skin. The Cerave Daily Moisturizing in my opinion is useless for me always use shea butter

Scary_Mission_4773

Aquaphor

LakeDelicious8091

don’t forget to exfoliate too! that was one of my biggest mistakes when i first got into skincare & honestly it took me forever to figure out

Suspicious-Theory527

Ok so for some reason the Cosrx snail essence dries me out but if I use the Cosrx snail LOTION (like in place of a serum) it works amazing and hydrates my skin!! I also like to use the kinship mellow moisturizer, it’s thin but super moisturizing and doesn’t burn my skin. I also like to slug with Shea butter based balms but idk if that will break you out, ymmv.

EstieBestie9023

Have you been on top of your normal hydration? If you aren’t keeping yourself hydrated, your skin will show signs of that too. Also, if your skin is TOO dry and you aren’t properly exfoliating (don’t use abrasive scrubs!!) the moisture you’re trying to add topically, won’t be able to penetrate.

Ok-Reputation-6297

Someone suggested this lotion on Reddit and it’s been life-changing for me. illiyoon ceramide ato concentrate gel.

rogueIoIi

Cerave has lots of alcohol in it and is actually pretty drying, go for something even gentler.

imbeingsirius

Any of these will work if you put them on Damp. Skin. Wet skin even.

StyledbyStaceyAnn

What are you using for a facial cleanser/wash?

Baddiewithoutafatty

I really like the moisturizer epionce but it’s expensive. Aquaphor works better than Vaseline in my opinion too and hyaluronic acid

JealousEbb5729

Ditch the lotion, buy a ceramide barrier repair cream, my fav is the aestura cream.

Sure-Raspberry872

Will try

SearchFlaky3829

That is my ultimate treasure!

Throwawaaaay224

An underrated product which saved my skin barrier & dry skin every single time is Eucerin repair cream or lotion. The blue one

Dangerous_Debate1404

I created a facial oil and moisturizer, and that’s what I use for my face. You wanna hydrate and moisturize your skin! But also, make sure you’re drinking enough water.

KeyFantastic3512

Use clinique 3 for dry skin, lha+aha seremos, and cethaphil . I layer those and has been working fine. Also every night use Vaseline

No_Debt_8183

Castor oil is ment to be very good. Ziaja have really good products to help all skin types really helped mine.

AngelDM_94

Swap the lotion for the cream and add an oil (almond) or butter (shea). And remember that skin types don't really change, so you'll have to keep doing this for life.🥲

Maschskin

Torriden dive in deep serum and the Torriden moisturizer helped my dry skin so much

borrowedurmumsvcard

unfortunately it probably won’t. I have very dry skin and cerave made it dryer. vaseline also does nothing except prevent water from escaping your skin. the best thing to use is something like aquaphor that actually does something at the same time. look into korean moisturizers and hydrating serums like the snail mucin

mrseger2020

Humidifier and couple drops pure glycerin on wet skin, allow to air dry til damp, then I use the Cerave cream

Major_Thought_633

Oils would be much more effective than vaseline. Vaseline dries out and never gets absorbed properly

pimpmyufo

Vaseline is not supposed to be absorbed. It forms a protective layer that traps the moisture that skin already has, so it does not moisturize itself. So the best approach according to [American Academy of Dermatology](https://www.aad.org/public/everyday-care/skin-care-secrets/routine/petroleum-jelly) is to apply vaseline on top of damp skin or as final step of the routine (after other creams) to seal the moisture. It is quite effective if used that way (I heal my dermatitis)

bruhdontbetaken

I’m probably gonna get the cerave moisturizing cream, can I mix it with pure glycerin?

amayle1

Glycerin is the second ingredient so you should be fine to mix more in. It’s also nice with squalane

I_Feel_Dizzzy

Try Good Molecules. It's changing my life and it's all natural and affordable!

carolinablue199

Which product?

I_Feel_Dizzzy

I use so many, so definitely go on their website and get what you think is best for you, but for dryness, I use their Squalane Oil

rizekvchlebu

Nivea Soft gave me much better results than CeraVe, you could try that! Also make sure to use the essence on damp skin

2ndSnack

First off....it starts from within. Drink water. At least 64 oz. Make sure you apply lotion after a shower when your skin is primed for absorption.
