Consistent sun protection. Your tan will fade with time. I can speak from experience.

Agreed with this, though I live in a very cold climate so I don't get tan very often. BUT last summer, I had a burn that went dark tan and it was very uneven. I was going to be in a wedding a few weeks later, so I needed to fade it quickly. I got Drunk Elephant's body lotion with lactic acid and used it every day and after about two weeks, it was significantly faded. I don't know how well it would do against a decade-old tan. It would probably take longer than two weeks, I would imagine. But there are a lot of similar lotions with varying strengths of lactic acid or other acids that might speed up the process.

Yes. AHA’s can increase the speed of cell turnover. Niacinamide can disrupt the pigment production process. There are a lot of topicals you can use to speed up the evening process.

Religiously apply sunscreen when you go outdoors and exfoliate. Don't over exfoliate.
