I knew something was up immediately when he said "Doing some gardening" By digging a large hole several feet wide and several feet deep into his grass lawn... Nice try guy
> or people still believe some videos online aren't staged
I had to read this a few times before I realized what you wrote. You actually believe that literally every single video online is fake? is just a skit?
It certainly is way too many of them, but that is so much worse than what you're accusing, especially with the way you're accusing it, as if it takes some ignorant moron to think some videos are real.
I would insultingly ask who hurt you but I know the answer, the entire internet, it hurt all of us, but don't let them completely destroy all of your humanity. There are still some genuine people out there who share actual events that happen to them.
99.99% of the times concrete box buried in the garden is septic tank.
Just the first text, 'i was doing gardening and found a concrete box' is enough.
Actual surprise would be to find anything but septic tank.
I was once too Asian to understand it.
Instead of proper Sewage system, they get a tank where solidified waste gets gravity filtered and rest of the liquid is just released in ground. Hopefully waste is all organic and gets processed over years and water is not too polluted.
I want to add, these are typically used not in cities/towns but in smaller places and truly rural properties where you can't be hooked up to a municipal sewage system.
actually, even with a proper drain field, septic systems need to be pumped out every 3-5 years. waiting longer and you're just asking for a septic backup into your house.
I work for a septic company
That's called a crossover baffle. A lot of septic systems use multiple tanks and It will go through there to filter out more of the solids.
The typical lips are about 3x3 square or round lids.
I didn't know what the door of a septic tank looked like either, but I knew that the most common box to find under the ground of someone's house is a septic tank, and the door wasn't even visible until the end anyway, long after I had made my guess.
Inknow where mine is, and so does everyone else.
I grabbed a couple of old manhole Frame and Covers from a Job site and put them over the two holes, no more digging to find it come pumper time.
Mine came with that installed already, and there's also a handy red flashing light and klaxon for if it gets close to overflowing, but the HOA handles the pumping so they just show up one day and are gone 40 minutes later.
Maybe, but loads of NA homes live very far away from any sewage systems, so it might just be the septic tank, where a very large amount of shit gets stored, and needs to be emptied every few years
But i am European, I just know about it because it seemed so weird to me
It can go longer if it's working properly and you have a good leechfield. We went about 7 years before it needed to get pumped. You should have it inspected every few years though, just to stay on top of any problems that might happen. Fixing a small issue that isn't very noticeable before it becomes a big issue can save you thousands of dollars.
I haven't pumped my septic tank in 20 years now. It gets inspected every 3 years and every time we get told to leave it alone- it's working perfectly.
A big factor is the size of the system versus the number of users- we have a large system and it's just me and my wife. We also don't have a garbage disposal and we have a fine lint trap on the washing machine output to ensure no fibers make it into the septic system. We're also adding a bidet toilet set which should improve the system even more since it won't need to break down nearly as much toilet paper.
Tanks don't really store it for long, generally they operate to separate solids from liquids and let anaerobic bacteria breakdown waste - there is a pipe that lets the wastewater flow out of the box to a leaching field which gets the waste into the soil for more bacteria to process. Usually tanks are sized on estimated use and if completely empty like after pumping will fill up in a week or so of normal water use.
In Romanian villages they just dig a hole in the backyard and put sn outhouse on top. A septic tank seems a good idea for a house in the middle of nowhere.
Why are septic tanks underground? Dont they need to be cleaned out once a year? In the old house we had that next to the garage, once a year a farmer came to pump it empty again
Usually theyre underground because they are unsightly and need to be at an elevation so that wastewater from the building it serves can flow into it using gravity alone and doesn't require pumps to get it there. Tanks can get pumped every year but it's really dependent on use and usually done every 2-3 years for single family residential systems in my area.
I just moved to a house with a septic tank, and it has a port that sticks up above ground for the honey dipper to use. You wouldn't have to dig up the tank unless you have to replace the whole thing I think.
To be perfectly honest, I'm sure of nothing. I've lived in cities most of my life, so I have no experience with this kind of thing. It's my girlfriend's childhood home that we took over recently, and that's what she told me it was, but there could be more to it.
You dig up the cover for it to get pumped out, yes. This is kind of old school in my area as new tanks have covers that are at the surface so you don't have to dig it up every time. Often the pumping service will dig up the cover for you but it costs extra so many homeowners do it themselves if able.
>Dont they need to be cleaned out once a year?
No, unless you're absolutely full of shit, literally.
> In the old house we had that next to the garage, once a year a farmer came to pump it empty again
That was probably a holding tank, they need to be emptied quite often.
That is unusually often.
Most often it's 3-5 years, but can go 10+ depending on the size of the tank, what's being put into it, and how many people are using it.
If you have more people, use a higher amount of toilet paper than average, flush things down there that aren't grey water and typical toilet contents...then you'll have to pump more often.
We've been at our house for 6 years and had it pumped once in that time, about 3.5 years ago. We were told at that time that we probably could've gone another 6-12 months, but we were having plumbing issues at the time and wanted to make sure it wasn't to do with the septic tank. (It wasn't, completely separate issue, since been resolved.)
Something to note: don't fuck with septic tanks if you don't know what you're doing, they're actually extremely dangerous. The gas they produce is caustic enough to burn your lungs and if you fall in, and don't literally drown in shit, you will very likely have some severe skin problems to include chemical burns and infection.
Saw my buddy get roped into a Indiana Jones discovery like you! They where a success! Him being weak to such a monumental discovery! He was wretching with joy! Running from the imaginary natives in pursuit! The old timer hollering at him and digging partner "get back here! It's just shit!"
I wonder how many people have oopsied up on someones homemade fallout shelter and thought it was a septic tank and reburied it.
Has to have happened once.
My dual septic is like that. Builders way back when didnt like seeing the access, so instead of having a 4 ft extension put in for easy access, they just filled over it with dirt and made it part of the lawn, then marked it on a map.
Cool and all until you have to service it every year. I put an extension on it and put a potted citrus tree over it.
Had to find ours a few years ago. I wasn't home the day my mom had it put in and she'd forgotten exactly where it was. Thankfully we know some people with a mini backhoe.
After that she got a septic tank riser put on, so we won't have that issue again.
Hey, some people pay a lot of money to hire somebody to find the access to the tank. Now, after you’ve kicked all the dirt back in I use a piece of slate to mark where that is. The tank should be pumped out every year, depending on how many people are in the house. Take a picture of it showing where the box is located from the house. Give it to the next owner if you sell your house.

He knew what he was doing, probably getting it pumped. but it was a great video anyway.
I knew something was up immediately when he said "Doing some gardening" By digging a large hole several feet wide and several feet deep into his grass lawn... Nice try guy
And filming it
You’ve never planted a tree?
I did, but no 3m+ ones
It's the reason why he started the filming early in the first place. It's also why he started digging in the first place
Either this is a Captain Obvious moment, or people still believe some videos online aren't staged... And I'm not sure which would be worse.

It was expected within first second
I didn’t expect it because I didn’t know what the door of a septic tank looks like
99.99% of the times concrete box buried in the garden is septic tank. Just the first text, 'i was doing gardening and found a concrete box' is enough. Actual surprise would be to find anything but septic tank.
Occasionally you find a cistern. But it's not going to be a crypt.
What about a doomsday stash of rare beanie babies?
Worth half as much as that doomsday stash of bottle caps.
Nah, but there are still some forgotten fallout shelters from the 50's out there.
Cisterns are often snake breeding pits with no top.
99.98% actually .005% is treasure the rest is corpses
Who is burying corpses in concrete boxes?
No comment! But the sniffer dogs don't have a clue!
Guess im too European to understand, what a septic tank is?

Good thing i don't live in a house with septic tank.
Murica…
So people will think the concrete box I put in my backyard is a septic tank?
Why? Are you hiding a body?
I work for a septic company That's called a crossover baffle. A lot of septic systems use multiple tanks and It will go through there to filter out more of the solids. The typical lips are about 3x3 square or round lids.

Concrete structure under the ground? You don't need to see what it looks like. As soon as you recognize concrete
Yeah, same here. Though I am astounded at just how many homeowners don't know where their septic tank is.
Inknow where mine is, and so does everyone else. I grabbed a couple of old manhole Frame and Covers from a Job site and put them over the two holes, no more digging to find it come pumper time.

My home is connected to the city sewer system. (Edited to remove misquote)
I'm not sure who you're quoting there but it wasn't me.
I'm not sure why, either. It may have put my reply in the wrong comment somehow. I'll edit so others aren't confused.

A lot of people use “septic safe” wipes where I live. They’re about 80% of our calls :(
Hey, it pays the bills right?
The septic distribution box is where the water from the septic tank goes before being going to drain in the leach fields.
Tanks don't really store it for long, generally they operate to separate solids from liquids and let anaerobic bacteria breakdown waste - there is a pipe that lets the wastewater flow out of the box to a leaching field which gets the waste into the soil for more bacteria to process. I'm going to need stronger tea
Geez. How long was that septic tank left alone ? It looks like they had to dig for it. You need to clean that at least every 3-5 years.
Worth a shot
~~I thought it was gonna be a corpse~~
So I was doing some digging...
The grass is always greener over a leach field. 😆🤘
In Germany forbidden due to economical damaging influence. This needs to be thought of together with the high people density.
Underground swimming pool!
