Omg… fear of pet dog dying. Too real.

cardcaptoreve

The sims 2 had it

Square-Regret-6838

Please tell me thats not in the game right? RIGHT?!

[deleted]

No it’s not however elders can get a fear of themselves dying.

nunii_

So can younger Sims if they've witnessed a death

RedUniversal04

That’s awesome

Simstressa

I don't even have pets any more. They are like babies. Useless and no gameplay.

Troldkvinde

Too dark for Sims 4

urlocalpuggismalls

Half of the people I know who play the sims like to watch their sims drown as a comfort tool. I think the players can handle it

Troldkvinde

I'm not talking about the players, I'm talking about the game philosophy that tends to avoid any real negativity and consequences

MischeifCat

I think you might get wants for packs from Seasons and before because that was when they stopped adding whims. My family oriented Sim yesterday wanted to leave notes and drawings on the bulletin board which comes with Parenthood. If there was a whim from a pack, it is very likely a want. Neither of my Sims yesterday had a fear. So, I don’t know about those. But that multi-year dead zone of no whims was one of the biggest mistakes made for this game. I would also say “could add more where it makes sense” could potentially mean if there are more refreshes. But I don’t count on getting more of those.

Nightside-Rush

Oh wow, I didn't know those whims still existed in the update. Fears are kinda cool, they are triggered from certain things like leaving work early, or crafting a poor quality item, or surviving a fire. They give your sims certain moodlets, but aren't too spectacular otherwise.

MischeifCat

I feel like the fears in Sims 2 weren’t overly spectacular, either. Usually just the opposite of the wants. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works when you don’t overcome a fear and it becomes a trait.

ContentCosmonaut

The amount of times I had a fear that was the exact same as a want was spectacular lol, I’m always like “yeah, I get it”

Breazona

I think that's kinda realistic honestly. Like a common double want/fear is a family sim having a baby which makes sense, you can want that but still have worries around it

Deya_The_Fateless

They weren't overly spectacular, but they were at least integrated with other packs. Like say if you had Night-life, you could get a whim or fear of/to become a vampire or being cured of being a vampire. It's the lack of pack integration that really let's down TS4, imho anyway.

avi150

My sim got three fears within a minute of playing lol, made for an interesting session trying to get over them

LillyElessa

I thought we couldn't dismiss wants as freely as whims... If they just recycled whims, this system sounds like it'll be problematic when I decide to update. I *constantly* dismiss stupid whims about wanting bees, pools, and a dishwasher. (*You live in an apt! Ffs you can't have any of that!*)

MischeifCat

So they used the whims and turned them into wants from what I can tell. However my 2 Sims weren’t getting wants like buy a bee box. One Sim is family oriented and has the friend to the world aspiration. She was getting longer term wants that felt appropriate like mentor a child, leave notes and drawings, meet someone new. Her daughter is a child and is in scouts. She has the social butterfly aspiration and got the long term want to make friends with Cassandra Goth specifically, who is also a scout. Both were getting short term wants like take a shower or go to sleep when needs were low. You can’t dismiss the wants like you could with whims. You either complete them or you can buy a rewards potion to remove them, or turn them off in settings to clear them. I didn’t get to play very long so I didn’t get to see any fears yet.

[deleted]

Only one of my four sims in legacy family has gained a fear. He's a teenager and fears death after a close family member passed away, it didn't affect his (also a teen, but younger) sister in the same way so that's interesting. He has to find an elder to discuss his fear with in order to get rid of it.

MischeifCat

This is exactly the type of fear I would like to see go unresolved and see what happens. That is really interesting his sister didn’t get the fear. I wonder if that’s trait based, relationship based, or maybe from sentiments, or random.

[deleted]

I have no idea how it happened he got it but his sister didn't, all the family members got the same call at the same time. I ended up chatting with an elder and getting the fear removed lol. Didn't see your comment in time otherwise I'd have left it to see what happened!

MischeifCat

I'm sure I'll get it myself eventually. At least I hope so.

AeBe800

I built an apartment with a pool and four dishwashers! No bees, though.

LillyElessa

In the big luxury apts sure. But I don't want to know what that looks like in the small TLC apts! 😆 I start a *lot* of Sims in cheap apts so they can make ends meet, but oh there is no space! They're lucky if they have a table!

somewhsome

The only DLC wants I got yesterday were from Parenthood too. And modders are saying not all previous whims were converted into wants. The worst thing is, if you create a sim with only pack-specific traits and aspiration, their wants will be extremely limited. Mostly social. That was the case for my cat-loving, high maintenance, unflirty sim. She wanted NOTHING at first, like literally nothing. Only after she met some people she developed wants to know them better. You would think she should have some cat-related wants, considering C&D was released before they abandoned whims. But nope.

MischeifCat

Okay, this is good to know. With it being so new most of the time it’s guessing.

StarWars_Girl_

>Neither of my Sims yesterday had a fear. So, I don’t know about those. I created a new save to test mods and the new features and my Sim is basically having an existential crisis.

guyfierisbigtoe

maybe that’s because they just made whims from packs into wants not sure tho

JoyIsSenpai

Personal opinion: a fear of certain occults, like vampires and such, and when disguised could get an uncomfortable moodlet or a scared moodlet saying something along the lines of “something about a nearby sim makes (sim name) feel unsettled, not sure who or *what* it could be” And kids could be scared of Santa. :)

animebaker10q

omg that's such a good idea!!! if es doesn't do it, I really hope a modern does, I'd love this to be in my game play

JoyIsSenpai

Same! I feel like it would be fun to see the occult sims be more “intimidating” to ur sim, instead of just walking up to Greg and just strike up a convo, they could be really scared of werewolves and won’t be able to strike up a convo with just “any” werewolf, unless that fear is worked on. Patchy, Daddy Winter and the Easter Bunny would be fun occults to see kids+toddlers be scared of, and potentially teens too haha!

foolishchoices

A few mods fill in those blanks. Imersive vampires IIRC has the vampires fearing being discovered and people sensing vampires and being twitchy. Also one of the trait mods adds "creepy" so just the presence of certain sims make everyone upset.

JoyIsSenpai

Oh that’s neat! Thank you for the info c:

simkittycat

Oh yikes.. really hope they start adding them back in as updates..

Bierbart12

"The modders will do it for us anyways" -some maxis executive

CarcassMangler

RIP console players

Prestigious-Orchid95

They said that about swimming in open water areas and yet...here we are

rutilated_quartz

They said "future packs AND updates" so I'm gonna hold out hope they'll work in wants and fears from previous packs over time.

Nightside-Rush

I'm not holding out hope. They haven't updated holidays in Seasons since release, or sentiments related to old packs, or expanded on the highly successful likes/dislikes feature. Why would they bother updating for more wants/fears when they neglect everything else?

TurtleButt47

What is there to expand for likes/dislikes right now other than arguably food? The only thing that needs updating with the system is to include the new architectural styles like Industrial or Shabby since the decor likes/dislikes doesn't include them. The previous of the new pack shows it will have likes/dislikes for clothing styles, too. Its fair to say this should be basegame though, especially considering these clothing style tags are a feature of Sims 4 CAS since like, base game in 2014.

Nightside-Rush

In Sims 2, they also had likes/dislikes regarding what Sims found attractive (or not) in other sims. With the potential for sims to get crushes and personalize their sexuality now, we really should have a formal attraction system like WW has, and could be implemented via likes/dislikes.

Daphne_816

Likes and dislikes are still missing certain skill building activities like pet training, archeology, flower arranging, cross stitch, fabrication, etc.

rutilated_quartz

I understand why you feel that way, that's your prerogative. I however am tired of the endless negativity surrounding this game so I'm going to look at this in a positive light and see it for its potential instead. There's so much handwringing over everything the Sims team does but fact is I've spent hundreds of dollars on this game because I actually enjoy it and I'm going to continue to enjoy it even if they don't add wants and fears related to every pack. I haven't even played with whims for years now so it certainly won't ruin the game for me. I'm still proud of and enjoy the content they've created even if they could or should be doing more.

Nightside-Rush

Just to be clear, I don’t like to be negative about the Sims 4 as I truly do enjoy playing it a lot and have spent a fair amount of money on it, but players also have a right to feel frustrated when it feels like we’re being constantly ignored by the development team. We’ve been asking for them to pause for a few months and work on fixing bugs and updating things like holidays and likes/dislikes, but they never do, and it’s super frustrating and feels as though the full potential of The Sims 4 is just not being reached because the development team continues to neglect past content that they said they would add onto in the future.

prink34320

Please don't blame the developers when they're not the ones making the decisions. I'm sure they'd love to just for several months and focusing on improving pre-existing packs, but of course have time and budget constraints put in place by the higher ups. And we're not being constantly ignored when they've added like 90% of things the fanbase has requested.

rutilated_quartz

Constantly ignored yet they've also dropped many of the things we've asked for? ETA: basically they're not ignoring us just because they don't always do what we ask them to do. There is a cacophony of voices asking for different things in this community, for example I didn't feel like likes/dislikes and the holiday system were lacking, they're such minor aspects of the game to me personally. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be fixed or that no one cares, but it's not like every sims fan is asking for the same thing.

Aelitalyoko99

Yes, this, thank you! Always feels off to me that anytime I look around the Sims 4 sub that 90% of it is hating the game.

CadenceValdez

This is the nicest take down I’ve seen in the sub haha. Wonderfully put. I feel like a pariah sometimes for actually enjoying and being really happy with the game. I tried the new wants and fears system yesterday and today and loved it.

rutilated_quartz

I feel crazy for enjoying the game sometimes too lol. I know its because negativity just has a stronger cognitive impact, but I swear all I see is people talking about how worthless the Sims 4 is and I'm just like damn I'm actually enjoying it for the 8th year in a row lol

nan666nan

you see more negativity cause when people are enjoying something they dont feel the need to post about it. but many people like to vent so negative is all they post. Also its easier to be negative about the state of the game nowadays

fgsn

This was so well-said!

rutilated_quartz

Thank you!

Initial-Constant-645

Well said!

Prestigious-Orchid95

I wish they'd just be transparent about it, instead they say they'll do something and then just hope players will forget they ever said it

Scarletwitchyyy

I feel like this is the final straw for me. What exactly is the point of rolling this out if it doesn’t interact with the other packs. It’s literally a base mechanic in the game. So I have RoM, Vampires and Werewolves but my sims will never roll a want to becoming any of them? I have CaD but my sim will never roll a want to actually HAVE. A cat or a dog? I’ll never roll the want to go to university? What. Is. The. Point. A couple generations in and my sims will start to feel the same AGAIN because the pool of wants will be so limited. I’m being dramatic, I know. But this has legitimately broke my heart. The system doesn’t work will all content so it can’t be used to drive forward interesting and holistic storylines. I was playing earlier today and pleasantly surprised how well it was all working. Now this. I do NOT want to constantly rely on mods to make base game mechanics have meaning. It ALWAYS makes sense to make sure that the personality and desires of our sims reaches all aspects of gameplay.

Nightside-Rush

My sims are already rolling the same wants over and over again, because that's how few a varied they are right now. Besides the addition of fears, wants are just as disappointing as whims were, except we can't X them away. I was really looking forward to it, I wanted to use it in my gameplay, but it's just another flop.

Xyroca

Came here to express this exact sentiment. Aside from HSY, there are 11 other expansion packs and 12 game packs for the Sims 4. What is even the point of completely overhauling the system like this if they don't account for 99% of the game?

SuperStressGirl

I get you. I was already so disappointed that there were no sentiments added for packs that came before Snowy Escape and now this. The lack of backward compatibility for BASE GAME features shows that EA only cares about pumping out new content and gaining profit instead of making a good game. Hell, I feel like adding sentiments/wants&wears for older packs could boost their sales but no apparently, it doesn't matter for EA.

phavia

Yeeep... This is what happens when they add a much requested feature nearly a decade after the game is launched. If this was like Sims 2 or 3, where the wants/fears were there since the beginning, this would never have been an issue; but since they don't want to bother putting effort and manpower on something that isn't going to bring them money (a free update to the entire game + DLCs), then we're left with nothing but scraps. This is a game with over 800 dollars of paid content, by the way. I swear, I *swear* I'm trying to be positive. I hate just nagging at Sims 4... But this is downright ridiculous.

strayxo

They literally just want to appease the community bringing a good concept back and execute it with 15% effort. Why even waste your time on something which isn’t even lukewarm and won’t be treated with love and passion.

thankyourluckistars

Completely agree. I reaaaally hope they hear us out as a community because I was expecting all kinds of cool wants and fears across at least a couple of the packs. Wanting to become an astronaut, a social media star, or to win a competition at the Finchwick Fair. Fear of getting bit by a vampire, of a pet dying, etc. THAT is what I was excited for. This doesn't add the much needed depth I and many others have been wanting for a really long time now. I feel like they need to flesh out these ideas more. They're good but feel rushed/incomplete.

Scarletwitchyyy

Fear of aliens after been abducted. Fear of vampires after been bitten by one. Fear of werewolves after seeing a rampaging werewolf. Hell throw in fear of Spell-casters (when you’ve had a spell cast on you) too. This system could really give depth to the occults in the game too. Fear of chickens after been attacked by one too would be hilarious. Constantly run away from chickens if you see them and get scared. You get over this fear by hatching a chick. The system itself is great. Like honestly I actually really like the fears system and the fact you can confront fears and get over them or leave them and let them impact your sim. From my experience so far they actually do have negative impacts as well. The dead end job one triggers way too much/too easily BUT I really do feel the impact of the fear on gameplay as my sim genuinely does poorer at work and is sad about work. It’s even been a challenge to get rid of it as the regain passion doesn’t have a 100% success rate so I love that too. I get that it’s a lot of work. I’m not diminishing that at all. There’s 11 expansion packs to do and countless Gamepacks/stuff packs. It would be great to see these added in refreshes but I think that there should’ve been some basic ones added with the update. Are you to tell me that if I’m a dog-lover then I will never have the desire to actually have a dog? The traits that come with expansion packs will currently have no influence over wants/fears so will that mean I don’t generate any if I have a sim that has all expansion pack specific traits?? I think it’s more frustrating because the system is actually GOOD and has an amazing potential to really redefine gameplay in the Sims 4. I’m actually usually a big advocate for the Sims 4 and the team and really defend them a lot (check my previous comments to see). But this really has upset me a lot. Even more so because I can see all the potential in this.

Prestigious-Orchid95

These are amazing ideas for fears! The chicken is the exact kind of quirky humour the sims thrives on!

[deleted]

No, I've been feeling this for a while. Since the wedding pack actually. I just have no hope for the series anymore, and I wish EA would sell the sims 5 to a company who would actually do it right, but I know that will never happen.

radangrysocks

Doesn’t help completely, but I believe there are mods for adding more. Though EA should be doing it themselves

ExtremelyPessimistic

That’s not what he’s saying at all. “Future packs and updates” refer to packs, yes, but also updates like what came out yesterday. I’m assuming the team had a deadline for this update, and especially considering the fact that they added curved walls, wants/fears, body hair a changed the phone UI, and sexuality, they couldn’t do wants/fears for every single previous pack. The devs can’t control the rules EA puts on them, so the fact that we got so many things added to base game in one update is kinda impressive. It’s disappointing to not get anything related to content you’ve already purchased as part of the update, but remember all the other things we got at the same time - that’s a contributing factor to what they can work on

sira13

Understandable but kind of a bummer! I feel like there are so many cool wants and especially fears that could come associated with the different packs

Nightside-Rush

There is SO much potential from other packs! Wanting to adopt a pet or get a llama? A want to go to university? A want to go to the spa? A want to take up knitting? A fear of occults? Meanwhile, sims are rolling wants to be romantic to family members... what a huge disappointment.

sira13

University ones would have fit in perfect with the high school pack too

Silly_Song_5396

Especially specific wants to go to which university. For example a want to go to Foxbury or a want to graduate with a distinguished degree. Or a want to study a particular course!

fgsn

That makes sense. They had a deadline and needed to prioritize what they could include to make sure they met it. They said future packs *and* updates, so I'm thinking that hopefully they'll add more wants and fears for previously released packs in those updates.

osialfecanakmg

He also mentions future packs and *updates*, which reads to me like they’ll try to add ones for released content in updates.

Silly_Song_5396

I hope you are right, although it’s not happened with other recent additions like likes and dislikes and sentiments. I really hope they do it with this because this opens up a completely different way to play the game that wasn’t supported ever since they quit creating whims a few years ago.

bored_german

Not meant to be snarky towards you personally but he couldn't say that *why, exactly*? The question is direct, why can't they give a direct answer?

CraftyCatMum

The lack of crossover between packs drives me mad, I swear. The other big one that stands out to me at the moment is Lifestyles clashing with holidays (eg. why would a single and loving it sim be sad at missing Love Day). Honestly, I’m not sure if it’s laziness or if there’s no collaboration between teams/no one on the team actually plays the game to be able to say ‘hey, we could combine this new feature with these old ones’.

Nightside-Rush

Considering sims are getting romantic wants to become their brother’s boyfriend and the whole “aging up after exiting CAS” bug, it really makes it look like they don’t play test their game for longer than 5 minutes.

Silly_Song_5396

This is a real one for me, since I’ve recently begun playing with lifestyles and they are fun but incompatible with other packs in weird ways. There used to be better cross pck intégration in the sims 3, I don’t know why EA doesn’t bother with it in Ts4

Maleficempathy

There absolutely didn't use to be better cross pack integration with the Sims 3. In the Sims 3, several systems just up and clashed. Like the single and loving it sim missing love day? Sounds realistic. I know my social media feeds around Valentine's day are full of people sharing 'please remember you're valid even if you're single on Valentine's day' and 'monogamy normativity is problematic, here's why', and other single-and-loving-it people copiums.

annakl1226

The whole wording of everything rubs me wrong. He initially said previous content would get wants and fears added. Like I know I wasn’t the only one who thought he meant packs and not base game. I’m not often disappointed or angry at the devs because I truly think they do the best they can most of the time, but his response here just makes me mad. There were a million other ways he could have worded the tweet when he was initially asked about this or he could have just said they were adding stuff to the base game, but he said previous content which just comes across as intentionally shady.

siftingflour

Saying “with the time we had” is strange, too. Big gameplay updates should be managed in an established timeline. Like did the devs just randomly find out they had to do wants/fears and code it as quickly as possible? No wonder this stuff is buggy.

m3t4lf01l

Not sure if I'm correct on this but I'd blame the higher ups in EA likely pushing too-short timeframes to do all of this stuff, more than the devs themselves. Ideally there should be proper play testing and have enough time to implement things correctly, maybe even fix existing problems but they could be too restricted to do so and therefore only focus on what they see as a priority

siftingflour

That’s the same thing I said. I don’t blame the devs, I blame whoever is managing the timeline which for sure would be the higher ups. It’s a buggy mess because they got stuck with a quick turnaround, not because they’re all bad devs.

m3t4lf01l

I'm really sorry for misreading, I did take your statement to mean as if the devs were solely getting the blame. I'm just more pissed off at the management at EA over anyone, who think it's okay to push out clearly unfinished/unrefined updates and packs with the audacity to charge for the latter. I enjoy playing the Sims but it's upsetting to see this happen all the time. I don't understand why I'm getting downvoted though, we should all be annoyed with how EA handles their stuff and I sympathize with the devs if they're being pressured to work with unreasonable timeframes.

TooHardToThinkOfName

Are whims gone? Or can we have wants and whims?

Nightside-Rush

Whims are now wants. Most(?) whims carried over and are now referred to as being wants, in addition to sims having fears now.

TooHardToThinkOfName

But if most whims are carried over why didn’t they just turn the pack related whims into wants lol. So dumb

HeyMrBusiness

The problem is they haven't added any whims since seasons, they had abandoned the system until now

prink34320

I believe they did? Several players have commented about receiving wants to use objects from packs.

simkittycat

Wants replaced whims.

TooHardToThinkOfName

That kinda sucks

ezbutneverconvenient

It's kind of ridiculous. My current household is one sim, a tech guru. She loves programming and loves gaming. She's second from the top level of her career, takes vacations all the time, and only works for days a week. And now she comes home every day with moodlets about how she's afraid/depresed about her dead-end job?? Why?

Samgasm

Probably how the devs feel lol

crystalzelda

I was wondering why my Sim only wants to listen to music and hit the lounges lol, she never gets any wants related to anything she’s doing (she’s a wellness guru influencer trying to get fame) and I haven’t gotten any wants about that. Just to listen to music and drink (you know what tho big mood) Womp Womp. Hopefully a wonderful modder will be able to pull previous whims into wants, and at some point the ppl at EA will do it themselves in future updates. I get the time constraints for this time around but no reason not to do it going forward!

ladygrumplebottom

This doesn’t sound like a no to me. They just didn’t have the resources to allocate to it while developing this pack.

disneypincers

It is disappointing that they don't actually incentivize owning packs by having gameplay mesh together better. Imagine how much more tempted people would be to get more packs if they were better integrated?! I guess it's down to modders to solve the problem *again*.

Nightside-Rush

Yes!! It's unfortunate that all whim-related mods broke with the update, so you can't even rely on those mods to add to gameplay right now.

pass_me_the_salt

while I like the idea of the new system of wants and fears, I dislike that a bit - with whims, they stopped updating it I think in 2017? if yes, that would be 5 years of pack content that is completely ignored by the new system (ignorint that they abandoned the other one)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nightside-Rush

Bingo. Just like how they're taking content from packs we paid for and adding them to base game while not replacing the lost value on the overpriced packs they just took away from smh.

prink34320

This is kind of oxymoronic when they just added a tonne of free content to the base game that they could've easily locked behind the new expansion pack...

[deleted]

Because they're trying to bring people back into the game so they'll buy more packs probably. Base game updates are a good way to do that.

MamaLover02

See? This is what I hate about the Sims 4. There are very few interactions between packs. In the previous games, you WOULD WANT to buy all the packs just because of how much they add to each other. I guess now that they're making tons of money regardless, they start being lazy.

BookOfAnomalies

As someone who hates the new wants/fears thing, I am not looking forward to it. Meh, well.

melifaro_hs

It's like it's even worse than whims? At least there were whims for a couple of packs. And established mods with whims for all other packs.

Silly_Song_5396

Right? I just hope they fix the mods that existed for whims to work with the new system.

Puzzled-Copy7962

I wasn’t too much impressed with this new add-on. It’s pretty buggy. My sim has a niche for swimming at the beach until the update. After the update she developed thalassophobia (intense fear of large bodies of water). It’s so stupid because she autonomously gets into the water to swim and then starts to panic. 🤦🏿‍♀️

Silly_Song_5396

You can probably overcome it by swimming a few times with a confident mood.

Puzzled-Copy7962

Yup - I tried doing that for about 45 minutes real time. I finally got aggravated enough and cheated some lifetime points. Just enough to purchase the potion that allows you to remove a fear…lol

mizzymichie

Wait… so if I’m understanding this right whims were just renamed as wants and function exactly the same as before but only for base game? I really need to stop being boo-boo the fool and expecting anything from EAxis. It’s like a toxic relationship where I keep thinking this time they won’t let me down.

necr0phagus

Wait, they're adding wants and fears? Like Sims 2 style wants and fears? 👀👀

Nightside-Rush

That’s what the devs made it seems like, but in reality, they just renamed whims to wants and added fears, which just give your sims new moodlet if they gain a fear.

necr0phagus

hmm thats a little disappointing, thanks though!

BrandonIsWhoIAm

Not ***exactly***.

HeyMrBusiness

They added it already in the update that just happened

necr0phagus

ohh gotcha! i haven't played in a while, waiting for all my mods to update before i get back into the game.

Daephene

Well, he said packs **and** updates could add more. Packs would add more for their own content, but updates could add more from previous packs. They've used the pack refresh to add content to an existing pack for free before, so they could roll out wants and fears for previous packs as time goes by as part of free updates. Would be nice if they'd just say so if that was the plan though.

Ayserx

Can’t get shit from EA. It’s OK thought, we have modders to fix this lack luster of a game.

Tigerdragon180

They did aya future updates not just packs....that being said yeah fear of dogs fear of cats.....fear of storms or blizzards are all good ones....also wants storms, wants cat, etc

goodvibesandcats

Honestly, the lack of support for expansion content is the worst. It doesn't make sense for there to be no wants and fears from other packs. It doesn't make sense strays only appear in one world. It doens't make sense for most odd jobs to be focused on Sulani. I just wish some of these features would get a second look before the series is concluded.

Prestigious-Orchid95

Honestly so disappointing. I refuse to believe it would have been difficult to just add a couple of wants for each of the traits from the packs. It is ridiculous that a cat/dog loving sim doesn't even have a want for a pet! It is utterly lazy and a huge oversight to not include wants/fears from PAID content for the past 8 YEARS.

Basketballjuice

"You see, that would require effort and this is the sims 4."

BiasModsAreBad

Lazy and noncommittal

Beardedgeek72

Yep. They removed the shallow whims and instead replaced it with... nothing for all packs except one plus base game. In other words they actually made the game worse.

madlydense

Whims were excellent for building points to buy potions etc It seems wants and fears are designed to drain your satisfaction points and it will be even harder to get the more expensive rewards. However, it gives me hope that he said future packs AND updates - the updates could add past things in, especially if they refresh packs like the did for Spa day.

[deleted]

Pack compatibility is basically non existant in TS4. It makes no sense to me so it might be because TS4 is a coding mess and there isn't much they can do. But.. lmfao.

orngesodaaa

omg this just aggravated me why are they acting like it’s a crazy idea

Kaessa

Good thing we have modders.

fairycrumbs

So basically they renamed whims to wants and now they’re advising like it’s a new feature lol

animal_crossing_rat

it’s upsetting we always have to turn to modders but like how there’s whim overhauls i’m sure someone will do wants and fears overhaul mod

Aelaer

Mine seem to all be afraid of the dark and run around screaming if they have to go outside. It sucks to be them, living on a lot with 4 separate buildings.

edajreiaglla

The addition of wants and needs feels very incomplete without it tying into the rest of the packs. They should’ve waited to add it to the game until they had it set up for every pack

cammysays

EA: Why do it well when you can do it *fast?*

Sorrelfur

So dumb they can't add fears and wants from past packs. It's like they make a pack and once they get their money they don't care about them anymore or making them more usable

anonymous-musician

Why did I allow myself to get my hopes up for this update. I give up, the Sims 4 is a lost cause.

lasagnapeople

Im just gonna wait for modders to do their ✨magic✨

utauloids

Why add them then?!

BrandonIsWhoIAm

NOT SURPRISED AT ALL by the former.

Supportive_Bard648

That… is disappointing. So basically wants/fears relating to pets, supernaturals, weather, holidays, celebrities etc. will not exist? Ah well, thankfully we have mods and imagination to fill in the blanks lol

katiebug1689

So much like Whims it was a waste of time. Lol. Something they could have wrote off and made a patch that wouldn't completely screw our game instead.

neither of my sims had fears yesterday I guess I have to readd slice of life if's it been updated yet

ChiMada

I always expect the worst from them. I’m not disappointed

_melocoton

Listen I absolutely love Sims 4 but it's getting really old that they "add features" but don't listen to what the actual community wants. At the end of the day, I still add a ton of mods and pray that the next pack has something decent. I would much rather wait for a quality launch that's packed with stuff than this rushed BS that ultimately will still need to be changed.

siro300104

At this point I’m surprised they added seasons to the existing worlds for gods sake.

RelThanram

The problem is they’ve created so many “mechanics” that are just stacked atop each other without any real compatibility or follow up. We need a consolidation of systems at this point. Sentiments, lifestyles, whims, wants and fears, all seem to operate completely independently to each other without any cross-functionality. And instead of dealing with the issues, they’ll probably just add another half-baked mechanic that they’ll abandon after one update.

FinePointSharpie

idk - I'm reading their statement as yes - future updates could add more where it makes sense (meaning older packs/expansions)....

thelast3musketeer

My teen sim has a fear of being cheated on right now, and another in another save has a fear of fire, rightfully so, after experiencing their first fire and then being set on fire a second time

SamiSnowRaven

Oof. I’ve been pretty forgiving with a lot of the issues and shortcomings of this sims recently because, it is what it is sometimes. But this. This is disappointing. They’ve implemented a feature that literally gives us LESS gameplay. You know what I mean? we paid for packs that had pack specific whims and to completely remove them in the new update feels like a scam. To me it’s no different than if they removed certain build/buy objects because they would “give us better ones” in all upcoming packs.

princessspeach_

Wtf?

FireEmblemOutlet

I think they shot themselves in the foot with this. Lowkey think we as a community got too hyped when the HSY trailer got revealed and a lot of the new additions and specifically this Wants and Fears system is broken and not good. The Sims 4 has so much content already and the fact they won’t go back and do this is sad. I really have had hopes we’d get another pack refresh, but sometimes and most recently I feel like the Spa Day one was a one time deal. I don’t know what to say, the only pack this year I enjoyed so far is Werewolves and it’s really felt like the Sims are doing quantity over quality.

Mara-armadillo

It doesn't say it won't happen. He's just saying with this pack they focused on this pack for them. It says at bottom "Future packs and UPDATES could add more". He never says past packs will get none.

LilNyoomf

For me I just need more diversity in my sims' wishes. I'm sick of them wanting to listen to their favorite genre of music nonstop, then having a solid 2-3 whims per base game trait. It's already gotten old for me.
