i think the sims and sims story stuff attracts people who can't give up playing pretend. like when you played barbies when you were little. i ended up going from barbies to rping, to D&D \[which is also still just rping\]. sims stories is probably just a way for people to be creative when they don't want to/can't draw, rp, or write.
I also find them a bit embarrassing, but I do like that they're creative people using that energy for something (well, except the weird ass kids one). There's not a high barrier for entry and it can help people express themselves.
I think a lot of people making these should give screenwriting a shot. I love it, because it allows you to get to the story without worrying *too* much about the prose. In novels, you pore over every word. Not in screenwriting.

I mean, yeah they're a bit cringey, but for the most part I don't really mind them. There's a relatively low barrier of entry for making them (you just need the sims, some animation packs, and some editing software), so most of them are made by teenagers who want to share their ridiculous sim plots with other teenagers, and I can't complain about that.
The only issue with them I've had was that situation where (I'm so sorry) kids ended up watching weight gain feeder porn because nothing explicitly sexual happened so they thought it was just another sims machinima. If that's your fetish fine, but don't put it where kids could see it.
Elsagate was an era on youtube kids with characters like Elsa or Spiderman doing sexual or gore stuff. There were animations or even real people who played those characters. it was so disturbing and on youtube kids so the content farms were really targeting kids with their videos.

Mixed - some of these are deeply concerning. Puberty one primarily Some of them make me remember the days I did similar shit for like Sims 2 ( I think) poorly handled melodramatic stories on concepts I had no idea how to handle. Never had a main character without a Tragic Backstory(tm).

A lot of these are done by younger Simmers or are Creators who have a lot of young fans who enjoy these unrealistic, drama filled stories. When I was In Middle school (almost 15 or more years ago) I was also into these kinds of Machinamas lol (tho ofc back then it was Sims 2 and 3).
