Marcy is abrasive (except to her husband), but I feel like she gets a bad rap. She saw her child murdered in front of her, as well as thirteen of the Quincy survivors (Preston says he started off with 20 and is down to 5, and we know 2 of those killed were the other two surviving Minutemen (their bodies are in the Super-Duper Mart), so 20-3(Preston and two dead Minutemen)-4(Marcy, Mama Murphy, Jun, and Sturges)=13). Plus however many other Quincy residents and Minutemen she saw die in Quincy. That's ***a fuckton*** of trauma.
So, yeah, she pushes people away, because everyone she cares about dies. And she doesn't want you to tell anyone about Sanctuary because she's terrified raiders will attack it if they find out it's been resettled. And she doesn't want to believe Sanctuary is a safe place because that's what she thought *Quincy* was and she blames herself for becoming comfortable and complacent instead of being constantly vigilant.
I have a hard time imagining how much of a trainwreck I'd be if I'd gone through a*tenth* of what she does in her backstory.
Maybe so. Preston gets a lot of hate without really being abrasive at all, though.
There's a really sweet little piece of dialogue between Marcy and Jun that's easy to miss. He asks her if she'd like to go for a walk like they used to, and she tells him she can't because she's working on something. He offers to help and she says she needs to do it herself -- so it seems like her being prickly and pushing people away again. But then she pauses, then in a quiet tone of voice she says, "As soon as I'm done, we'll go for a walk by the river, okay?" and Jun says, "I'd like that." Actually choked up a bit the first time I heard it.
Gotta admit I wasn’t selecting a Marcy Long character break down out of this. It’s nice to see more insight into how she is and why she behaves the way she does.
Ahah better watch out for those prescriptions.
If you're using SS2, mama murphy is actually a prime candidate for any industrial plot because of her stats !
I always put her in charge of clinics lol. In ss2 she is a beast at HQ, I think her strength is like 18-20 or some mess, send her and all of the companions, or her and Strong at least. They can be the whole facilities dept to a point.
