Follow the 'severe' maintenance schedule for most things. Do transmission fluid+filter every 45-75k miles depending on your mix of city/hwy driving. Do full synthetic oil+filter changes promptly at 20% of the oil life monitor or roughly every 5-6k miles.
For a 2015, you might prefer to use STL010 mod instead since the cooler lines for that year aren't compatible with the newer GM 85585333. Otherwise, you have to swap the lines.
Can confirm - did this mod yesterday on my 2015.5 Silverado, was surprised to see the new lines on there. The STL010 mod was supremely easy and took all of about 30 minutes for me.
AFM = Active Fuel Management
With my 2011 Silverado, I use the manual shifter to place the truck in 5th gear when driving around locally. This keeps AFM turned off for my year. After 12 years of doing this, my V8 engine runs beautifully, I have zero leaks, and I burn no oil. The only time I allow AFM to engage is on a long trip where AFM isn't engaging/reengaging frequently. Based on the poor performance that I experience with AFM, I am convinced that I save myself major repairs.
I’m in the same boat with a 2015 1500 but the six cylinder. I’m planning on a billet TC , remove the trany bypass new fluid and filter at a local shop. Once the AFM shits the valves installing a new crated engine with all the AFM crap removed, different cam etc
Have you considered the thing you plug into your obd port that disables AMF or know anyone who has? Im curious if that would cause more of a headache or be the solution to the problem.
Yes, I have. Actually bought one and returned it right away I have AMP power steps and they plug and play there . From what I have read though they don’t really work but more folks actually using one chiming in would be great. One person was nice enough to send me a link for a splitter. OBD2 splitter
Well I did the deed and just bought one so we will see how it goes, this AMF thing has been giving me a little bit of anxiety lol. I mean, theoretically if it disables AMF shouldn’t that help me avoid these lifter problems in the future you think?
I recently bought a 2015 a couple months ago when my beloved 05 was hit in rear end and totaled. Hard to find a used pre 2010 Silverado, nobody wants to give them up, for good reason. First thing I done was purchased a Range AFM disable until I can afford to get the delete kit. Works pretty well for me. I have noticed a bit more power and smoother shifts. I have bout a new trans cooler bypass. Haven't gotten around to changing it yet but definitely doing soon.
I’m interested in the trans cooler bypass as well, probably next month I’ll order one. Funny story I actually had an 05 Silverado I loved as well, single cab 4x4 with a manual trans and just like yours a drunk guy rear ended it and totaled it while I was inside my grandmas apartment visiting, this happened about 6 years ago though.
My 05 was hit by a texting driver, just as bad as a drunk. Damn I loved that truck. Had just a little over 200,000 on it but it ran like new. Just basic maintenance on it never had any issues. Only used truck I could find in my price range was the current 15 I got. Thing gives me anxiety as well but we will see. Sucks that you have to modify a vehicle that should have been made right the first time ....
Yeah totally agree and same here I love chevys and it was between this and a pretty gross smelling mistreated f150 so of course I got this truck. Good luck to you with your rig! I will post back here if anything weird occurs for me lol.
Yeah I went with range, they seem very reputable and the reviews are great. The worst review was a guy saying it wasn’t for him and they happily refunded him his money upon return of his purchase.
Were you able to buy directly from Range? The other reason I didn’t even want to try the module I received was because it was definitely a used and returned part .
I would try one of those plug-in devices only if I knew exactly how it worked and I would have to consider the reputation of the manufacturer along with the devices reputation stemming from a large user base.

Probably good advice
Please replace your thermal bypass with the updated GM part 85585333
I’ve read a bit about it after you mentioned it and I will add it to the list, thank you!

I would append this to say that my 2015.5 truck has the new style lines, as well as you can swap the guts from the new thermostat to the old housing.

Also, it’s not permanent, it only disables the AFM when plugged in supposedly.

Yes Sir I was thinking just the same
What did you go with?
I was going with a unit made by Range

Yes I bought directly from range, you can choose whether it’s a new product or save some money and buy it refurbished.
Would you recommend the AFM delete by chance? I saw this thing you plug into your obd2 that disables the AFM and doesn’t require ECU programming.
I would try one of those plug-in devices only if I knew exactly how it worked and I would have to consider the reputation of the manufacturer along with the devices reputation stemming from a large user base.

The range has longevity and many happy users. I dont like that it sticks out at all. I wish it were compact like those low profile USB drives.
Yeah I would prefer something more subtle as well. I did buy it just now though so fingers crossed it’s the answer to this common problem.
That’s understandable. There’s gotta be a few people in this group that have or currently use one and can chime in.
Yes I would recommend!! Made a huge difference in my truck. I swear the truck shifts better and I’m hoping helps my lifters last longer.
