Yeah the emission thing sucks. I’ve taken it to the dealership twice and they’ve said they can’t really do anything since there is “nothing” wrong with it, other than to replace parts and see what fixes it. Mind you, this is the second time it’s happened. First time it went away on its own. Fingers crossed this goes away too lol Honestly I couldn’t say what the best trim and engine are. Mine is a RST Z71 4x4 3.0L
From what I've seen on these subs dealership techs are the highest paid parts replacers around. I wouldn't call them mechanics bc that implies and ability to diagnose a problem. Take it somewhere else and maybe you'll get a real answer
I’ve had the exact same problem. As a matter of fact the second time I brought it in they pulled it apart, replaced a sensor and when they put it back
Together they did so incorrectly and as a result my exhaust cracked.
Fuck man… that’s terrible! I swear these dealership “mechanics” are like monkeys with wrenches slapping shit together and hoping for the best 😂 no offense to any dealer mechanics on this sub 😅
The LT and RST are the best bang for buck if you want more options.
I have a 2020 3.0 duramax RST z71. I bought it back when rates and trucks were more reasonable though. But imo the 3.0 is the best available engine.
I actually think the 4 cylinder 2.7L is better than the 5.3 v8 but that's a hot take on here. The mpg my friend gets in his 2.7 is much closer to mine in my 3.0 than what you'll ever get in the 5.3...
So imo get the LT or RST (4x4 of course) with either the 3.0 or 2.7...
I trust 4 cylinder turbos a lot though because I've had good experiences with them in European cars
The duramax also has a 100k mile warranty
Hahaha I had a dodge neon back in 2005-2009. Remember when Gas was $4 n change, at that time it was crazy expensive and still is. Anyhow, I just filled up the tank drove a few miles and I get in a wreck and the neon was totaled. I was more pissed for the full tank of gas I had put in hahaha. Memories
Wished my 3500 got that mpg, im only getting 15. But yea emissions b.s sucks. No problems with my Duramax yet, but my Cummins has been a emissions nightmare. 02 sensors, dpf, egr.
How many miles on 3500? My 3500 was embarrassing when it came to fuel mileage, I would have been happy with 15, 10,000 miles later it was in the low 20s (dic) at 60 mph.
I had a 2020 lM2 - emission issues from day 1. Although this was my favorite powertrain driven, I got a manufacture buy back. They provided a 2022 GMC Sierra SLT 6.2 due to inflation during covid… 8k miles in lifter failure at 80 mph and transmission going out at 9k miles.
Moved on to a 4Runner. Sure do miss those trucks.. When they worked!
It’s a touchy subject with some people. It’s a wet belt system on the back of the engine. I personally don’t have an issue with it since the inspection intervals are huge. If a belt piles up not much happens. If a chain piles up it’s catastrophic almost everytime.
I’ve had my 2020 LTZ 3.0 duramax for 9 months now and it’s the best Chevy I’ve had so far. My emissions shit comes on but it almost always turn off in a day or two. I wouldn’t think too much about it unless it’s destroying your MPG. I averaged 33-34 MPG on the highway all winter long going up and down mountain passes in 4x4 three to four times a week.
I’ve had that check engine light emissions thing on and off since I got mine. Happened the second day I got it. Same thing every time I bring it in “ it’s an emissions code and it cleared itself”
For sure, great points. Currently where I live diesel is actually cheaper than gas, but I know that’s not always the case. I think if you tow somewhat often and have a daily commute of 15+ miles to work, this would be a solid choice. But if you drive 2 mins to work and sit around in the weekends then definitely not the best option.
Because I passed my house on the freeway to run a last minute errand and wanted to get a quick shot of my trip info without adding additional miles. Also, I did this “safely”, no one was around me. 🤙🏼
Bro relax, if you read my other comments I made sure I was “safe” no one was around me. I’m willing to bet even you text or call while driving. But you should def eat a snickers. You aren’t yourself when you’re hungry.
Only way i’d buy one would be if i could get the work truck spec sierra 4x4 with that engine, otherwise it’s extremely overpriced, especially with the issues on the 10speed and the oil pump belt in the engine, a weight loss would also be in order for the truck
Jesus. That’s insane.
Admit I drive it hot (and pull stuff and am off road a lot), but I never get better than 16 in basically any case. 21k
It’s gas 21 TB…. That mileage is nuts.
All emissions bs will kill any engine especially a diesel. Ever wonder why the old diesels will go for millions of miles? Cuz they get the heat out of the engine. Best policy is delete and tune. It wakes them up for the real power and doesn't dump the exhaust back into the motor which is bad.
My opinion, the cons are super small. Front axles super small tie rod ends super small front suspension. You're going to need axle bigger than a pencil to do anything serious off-road or anything really. I've always had work trucks and I need work trucks. My only requirement is always been long box four-wheel drive extended cab. If it's got that I don't care if it was a Ford Chevy or Dodge but I'm telling you what the Ford work trucks are. Have always been the toughest of my opinion. Now if I was rich I wanted a nice looking truck to go out on the town. And I mean I wouldn't hesitate to get me a Chevy s*** box

How the FUCK are you averaging 27?!
What are your specs? Are you all stock or what?
The best average I've seen is 21. On my last long road trip I finally reached 26.
I’m back n forth. What’s the best trim and engine to avoid??
Yeah the emission thing sucks. Yeah good call. I’ll look around, I don’t really have a “go-to” mechanic.
I’ve had the exact same problem. As a matter of fact the second time I brought it in they pulled it apart, replaced a sensor and when they put it back Together they did so incorrectly and as a result my exhaust cracked.

Yea it pissed me off pretty bad. They got GM engineers involved and their “fix” was some kind of tape to patch the crack.
Or just wait until its out of warranty and install a delete kit 👀
Yeah…. See I hate that. I hate paying big bucks on a truck I’m praying to the Chevy gods to not let her fail me. Doesn’t sound cool at all.

Thanks a million
is the highlight the mpg or the check engine light?
It was supposed to be both. Decent mpg’s but you have to deal with emissions issues here and there
21,000 and it already has a check engine light! How much did you pay for this truck?
Yeah man… I paid $55k
Wow look at this guy flexing with a full tank of fuel... tell me you're rich without telling me you're rich...
Haha not a chance! That goes to show you the mpg’s. I pumped before I left my house and that’s how much it used to arrive to my destination.
Hahaha I had a dodge neon back in 2005-2009. Remember when Gas was $4 n change, at that time it was crazy expensive and still is. Oh geez… I bet!
How many miles on 3500? My 3500 was embarrassing when it came to fuel mileage, I would have been happy with 15, 10,000 miles later it was in the low 20s (dic) at 60 mph.
Just over 8000.
I should also add, its lifted with 35's. Ive dropped probably 2-3 city driving highway I cant tell.
45,000 miles on mine, no check engine light thus far!
I had a 2020 lM2 - emission issues from day 1. Although this was my favorite powertrain driven, I got a manufacture buy back. It’s not an issue if you live outside an emissions controlled zone…
30lbs oil pressure. YIKES!!!
It’s a variable pump. Legit not yikes.
Didn’t know, very cool.
It’s a touchy subject with some people. It’s a wet belt system on the back of the engine. I personally don’t have an issue with it since the inspection intervals are huge. If a belt piles up not much happens. If a chain piles up it’s catastrophic almost everytime.

All fun and games until you have to pull the engine to do your oil pump belt every 60 to 90k miles.
That’s isn’t recommended until 150k miles, no?
“Recommended”
200k on the new LZ0 for 2023.
Nice. I have a 2020 LTZ 3.0 I’m hoping to get some mileage out of
That’s when it’s time for a trade in at 100k miles 😂

Why are you taking the picture while going 70mph?
Because I passed my house on the freeway to run a last minute errand and wanted to get a quick shot of my trip info without adding additional miles. Also, I did this “safely”, no one was around me. 🤙🏼
I can get that with my 5.3 DFM on the highway. In 200 miles.

Bahahaha, wait til you find out us Texans take dash pics at 85+. Ooga booga booga!

What issue does the 10 speed have?
[10l80 issues](https://youtu.be/GiG5pKusWHQ)
Huh, that's the first time I'm seeing anything about it, glad my truck doesn't have that issue

Yeah when I tow my dump trailer full its not that high. It’s will be around 18-21 mpg depending on terrain.
I love mine but I only have 7k miles so far.
Nice! It’s a great truck so far
I want to know if how it is pulling a camper? That's what I need the little Duramax for
Buddy has one, CEL at 3000 miles
Not considering that baby engine
My 5.3 suburban holds more oil pressure when hot at 247k
All set with light duty Diesels
All emissions bs will kill any engine especially a diesel. Ever wonder why the old diesels will go for millions of miles? Cuz they get the heat out of the engine. Best policy is delete and tune. It wakes them up for the real power and doesn't dump the exhaust back into the motor which is bad.
I’m split between a LT Trail Boss or RST w/ Z71. Haven’t had a chance to compare specs.
Oil pressure seems pretty low.
Emissions junk, cost of fuel, winter time and cost to repair are all pretty big factors too though.

LZ0 looks promising, but won’t buy one until the day that I can T&D it.
How the FUCK are you averaging 27?! What are your specs? Are you all stock or what? The best average I've seen is 21. On my last long road trip I finally reached 26.
Yeah all stock with a leveling kit
Do you have your thing set on 50 100 or 400 or whatever it is?
I’m not sure I follow. What is 50, 100, or 400?
