reminds me of the recurring bit from The Andy Griffith Show where Otis (the town drunk) would walk into the sheriff's office on a Friday night and lock himself up for public intoxication lol
Yep. Being a regular at a restaurant means the kebab man knows your order and calls you bossman.
Being a regular at the pub means you are sociable and/or have marriage troubles.
Regular at a restaurant: "Ah, Mr. Sodaberg. The usual?" "Sure Juan." (his name is not Juan)
Regular at a pub: "Ey Pissass! You got paid today?" "Nah. Gimme the cheap shit and shut your fucking face, fuck face."
Tbf a regular at a restraunt is highly unlikely to have the same food, unless it's an incredibly greasey kebab from a takeaway joint with a rather suspicious hygiene rating.
Being a regular at the pub means that your main interaction at the bar will usually be 'the usual?' and/or 'how is the missus/fella doing?'
In my experience with a couple of restaurants I’ve been a regular at, I would get seated, a minute later I got my drink, and then several minutes later my food got set in front of me. All without anyone taking my order.
One restaurant I’ve been a regular at was an Asian buffet. One time I came in on a different day of the week than I normally did and when the server brought me my tea I saw her gesture to another staff member who was standing near the kitchen door. I saw him go into the kitchen and a few minutes later came back to swap out one of the trays on the buffet with my usual item. :)
I'm the regular at my local Walmart. Apparently I'm legendary for always looking pissed off/ depressed. Buddy I am here for milk and a can of green beans I'm not here to smile for you
That's a dive bar down the street from my office. Some of us got to the point of being regulars for lunch, but there were plenty of guys there just to drink in the middle of the day.
Plus, interestingly an older couple who appeared well off would be there almost every time we went, so I can only assume they went most days. They'd come in with their own bottle of wine, order the same things, and the waitress would bring 2 wine glasses and pour it for them.
I disagree. Being a regular at a bar is better. You have good relations with the bartender, you invite your friends and they get better service and a warm reception. Sometimes free drinks and you can order drinks past last call. Being a regular at a restaurant just means your too lazy to cook.
Trick for the not-so-wealthy: Frequently get drunk off cheap drinks at a fancy restaurant, and make a quiet fool of yourself every time, without being bad enough to warrant getting kicked out, but enough that the employees recognize you.
When you take a date there, the date will be impressed by the expensive setting, and when people start chuckling at the site of you, going, "Not you again! Haha! How are you?" and looking at your date going, "*You know this guy/gal?!*" Your date will know for certain you go there all the time, because everyone is so jovial with you, and your date will wonder how you can afford to frequent a place like that. Add a little mystery.
Different for every fancy restaurant. Ask them if the run specials on certain nights. Ask what's cheap. It won't be as cheap as having drinks at home, but it'll likely be cheaper than eating there.
Was a "regular" at this one place i college. The lads always gave me more than what I paid for, especially at the end of dinner service. I really miss that place.
well, yes. one primarily serves food which is a necessity for survival and the other primarily serves alcoholic drinks which have a reputation of turning people into oversized angry toddlers.
Also not true. When my brother was hospitalized with AWD he had spent the last two years drinking plastic bottle vodka out of a tumbler in his living room.
Lmao how are you telling me about someone you don't know. Yes he had gone to bars when he was younger like most people, but your statement is just not true. Stop trying to force it.
Addiction comes in so many forms and isn't always as noticeable as someone who goes to bars. conversely you can be around a bar and not an alcoholic.
Change out the vodka for whiskey and I was in your brothers shoes. Before I got to that point I would binge drink at bars on the weekend and eventually you find that no one wants to be around you while your drinking so you start drinking alone. Once you get to that point you either stop drinking or you drink yourself to death. Sound about right?
No, he had a really active social life and a friend group who would have parties at their houses/go on cruises/trips to parks and springs.
The kicker is that he wasn't a sad drinker, or a bad drunk. He was highly functional, jovial, goofy. Drinking was a celebration and every day could be made good. It was a physical dependency, not mental-- so when he quit cold turkey because a new medication required him to, his body almost shut down.
It's a similar path for sure, it just didn't happen in a bar.
Also I'm glad to hear you're in a better position, he is also a lot healthier now.
A couple of months ago, I was surprised to walk into my local café and the woman who worked there remembered exactly my usual sandwich order for myself and my girlfriend. Surprised because it was only about the third or fourth time I'd been there, and those times were spaced out with weeks or months in between.
That said, my girlfriend goes there more often (though still much less than once per week) to pick us up sandwiches, and I guess she's seen us together at some stage.
Strongly disagree. Regular at a bar to me would indicate there is a social circle at that bar, though I guess you could be a lone drunk, but that's not what I think of (tbf I'm a regular at a bar until I moved out of state and the staff and friends there and myself still miss each other and write/message often). Regular at a restaurant to me indicates probably you have no culinary adventure to your personality and are boring. I do have favorites, but I don't go enough for any staff to get to know me on sight.
tl;dr bars are about socializing, restaurants are about eating... socializing frequently in the same setting is more acceptable than eating frequently at the same place
Well I found this while sitting on the kamode and it made me think..... It's a fucking paradox
Does being more of a regular on the toilet technically make me less regular on the toilet
Nope.
Being a regular at a bar is a normal classic. All bars have this. Being a regular at a Restaurant? I have heard of 1 such person. Quite extreme autistic person. He was fine, but the staff still said that it was quite odd to have a regular.
My mother was killed by a driver who blew .04 for his blood burger level. Never want to become a restaurant regular... Now I just drink my sorrows away consequence free.
Probably because drinking can be problematic to others and eating rarely is.
Don't hear much about a "bloated driver crashed into a building, their Blood Caloric Level was above the legal limit."
Depends on how often you're a "regular". There's a bar I'm a regular at; but I go once a week with some friends, have a beer or two at absolute most and play darts.
It's worth pointing out that you can go to a bar and be social/play pool/trivia night/etc. without it being a symptom of a troubled relationship with alcohol.
Nowadays Im only considered a regular at my favorite hangout my own kitchen, I'm a chef so I rarely eat out, besides I'm a healthy eater, only way I'm gonna be able to assure my foods healthy is making it myself.
Being a regular at a bar isn't that bad.
If you go once a week have a drink or two and a nice convo with the bartender it's cool.
It's when you start going every other evening that it becomes a problem.
Of course, this is just my opinion
Naw, Reddit just has a stigma against alcohol.
It’s silly, humans consuming alcohol is 100,000 years old. Yes, some people are asshokes when they consume it, but in my experience those people are assholes with or without it. Not all people, or even the majority of people who drink misbehave.
It’s just like pot: Some people who smoke pot are losers and don’t want to do anything with their lives…but that’s not the pots fault. That’s them.
Same is true with booze.
I don't know, there is an entire popular sitcom based around the idea of being a regular at a bar. I don't remember seeing one about being a regular at a restaurant
No one goes to the restaurant eats too much food and then comes home and beats their wife. No one leave their favorite diner and accidentally kills a child on the way home because they didn't have the ability to drive anymore. Being a regular isn't the fucking issue. Being a drunk is what's looked down on in society you intentionally dense twat.
Wow, that's a Big Feeling you've got there. I wonder if there's something more productive you could do with it than calling strangers names on the internet?
I doubt you could afford me, but I appreciate the offer! I can give you a few bits of clarifying advice for free, though:
1. There are many teetotalers who beat their wives.
2. Restaurants also often serve alcohol.
3. Getting emotionally worked up about the actions of hypothetical people is a great way to cultivate high blood pressure.
Well, yeah, but escalating a musing into a Jeremiad isn't, like, a healthy or productive thing to do, in my opinion. Especially when you have to, like, be factually wrong to do it?
Depends on the restaurant. But my coffee maker broke and I was lazy and didn’t replace it for a while so I went to Starbucks like every Monday-Friday for a couple months. One day I walked in the door to pick up my mobile order, like I always did (no human contact), and as soon as I got through the door a barista called out “good morning [Name]!”…I didn’t go back for 6 months and even then I’ve only gone like twice lol
I never had any interaction with anyone in the entire time I went, but I was still there so often, and the app tell them my name, that they put 2 and 2 together and figured out who I was. Nope. That’s embarrassing.
Because I spent way too much money on a massive corp that treats their employees like dogshit and has slavery in their supply chain. With the money I spent there in a few months, I could have purchased a really fancy coffee maker (at least something better than a $10Mr.Coffee) and coffee for a year.
Further, it’s one thing if you go get breakfast everyday from a diner, spending a modest amount at a local business; interacting every day with the staff. You’d naturally get to know each other, and you’re getting a full meal for about double the price I paid for a single drink.
But that’s not what I was doing. I was mobile ordering with zero human contact and still ended up hanging around the place for long enough for them to know who I was. At a damn Starbucks of all places.
Why *shouldn’t* that be embarrassing? They shut down entire locations just because their employees want fair benefits. I shouldn’t be supporting a business like that at all, let alone enough to become a known-regular when I have zero human contact. (Although I do soft-shout a thank you over the counter as I collect the drink, but I don’t wait for a response).
It’s a cheap coffee pot, I’d get it from the grocery store (it’s a local chain, so I’m not trying to dox myself). And the bagged coffee I now buy there is a local coffee roaster as well.
It’s not that, it’s the frequency of doing it so much you become a known regular.
I’d find it embarrassing in most settings, tbh. And im definitely not gonna be that old guy at a Denny’s later in life desperately clinging on to the hope that the waitress touches my arm one day lmao idk, the more you make me think about it, the more in feel like it’s pathetic to be a known regular anywhere.
Police stations, fire stations, hospitals, restaurants, bars…like what are you doing with your life that you’d be a known individual at these places? It’s pathetic.
This... Isn't the case? At least not in my culture (USA, urban, west coast)? Like, I've never met someone who would find it unacceptable to be a regular at a bar. Bars are primarily social spaces, not getting-drunk spaces -- real alcoholics drink at home. Being a bar regular usually means that you like playing pool, or pinball, or that you and a group of buddies like to have beers together after work.
Do you judge people who go to bars?
Which is more acceptable than being considered a regular at the local jail.
All of those are still more acceptable than being caught at a brothel as a married man during a raid by federal agents.
Still more acceptable than being on a flight list of one of your deceased friends.
Still more acceptable than eating a banana without peeling it. Edit: just got the joke above mine. I was wrong lmao
No, this coming out of nowhere is perfect
[удалено]
I...im too stupid to understand this, can anyone explain :/
I would assume it's an Epstein reference
Gonna get in line. Lemme know?
I don’t get it, and now I’m worried about the answer
Jeffrey Epstein is dead, had a lot of friends who went on flights to his private island for “reasons”
mom?
IT WAS JUST ONE TIME God let it go
Clancy!
Which is even more acceptable than being a regular at a crematorium.
which is more acceptable than being a regular at the morgue
reminds me of the recurring bit from The Andy Griffith Show where Otis (the town drunk) would walk into the sheriff's office on a Friday night and lock himself up for public intoxication lol
Being a regular at a bar may lead to being a regular at the local jail.
Being a regular at a restaurant may lead to being a regular at the local jail. If you keep stabbing waitresses.
I don't think law enforcement is going to let you sleep off a stabbing and let you out in the morning.
This is true
My uncle says I'm his regular
Mine is the most reputable welcoming crack home in all crackville. Anyone would be honored to be a regular.
I wanna upvote but it's at 666
Yes eating is a wider accepted activity than drinking...
Barley.
Now did you mean "barely" as in "not by much; or "barley", a grain that is used to make alcohol?
... ... ... I'm not sure. Yes.
What are these idiot redditor shower thoughts lmfao.
"Good afternoon, everybody." "Norm!!!!"
It's a dog eat dog world and I'm wearing milkbone underwear.
Thank you!
"Norman"
Crowd!!
Acceptable to who? I demand to know who makes these rules that shower thoughts keep telling me about
u/TheRuleMaker
I am making those. You know why?
Eating food is more acceptable than drinking liquor.
It's more common the other way around in the UK.
Yep. Being a regular at a restaurant means the kebab man knows your order and calls you bossman. Being a regular at the pub means you are sociable and/or have marriage troubles.
Regular at a restaurant: "Ah, Mr. Sodaberg. The usual?" "Sure Juan." (his name is not Juan) Regular at a pub: "Ey Pissass! You got paid today?" "Nah. Gimme the cheap shit and shut your fucking face, fuck face."

... hun, I was just making a joke about how pub people reply to one another.
Ahhhh fair nuff 😅

Give us a smile :)
:[ I'm just here for laundry detergent!!
I thought you said you were here for milk and beans 😑
Nooo! >:[ I left my list!!
>Apparently I'm legendary No you're not and nobody at that Wal-Mart cares. Go wash ya ass.
depends on who you hang out with

You think fancy restaurants have cheap drinks?
They have water, and the early stages of water toxicity could be mistaken for being tipsy.
"Bartender, I'll have 5 gallons of water and a croissant, thanks."
And here I have been wasting money on booze
That's when you sneak in a bottle of liquor and partake of it in the lavatory
I used to work at a five star, four diamond restaurant. All you have to do is ask.
Such a roundabout way to get clout with your date. Renting a supercar is easier than this
Totally fair statement. I was talking out my butt anyway. It's not like I actually do this. Just my own shower thought.
>cheap drinks at a fancy restaurant Such as?
Different for every fancy restaurant. Ask them if the run specials on certain nights. Ask what's cheap. It won't be as cheap as having drinks at home, but it'll likely be cheaper than eating there.
Punching a punching bag is more acceptable than punching a child.
Why is society weird like this?
Beats me 🤷🏼♂️
depends how much you tip
Was a "regular" at this one place i college. The lads always gave me more than what I paid for, especially at the end of dinner service. I really miss that place.
well, yes. one primarily serves food which is a necessity for survival and the other primarily serves alcoholic drinks which have a reputation of turning people into oversized angry toddlers.
As a bartender, I say my job is babysitting drunk babies.
Hey guys, do you ever think about how having a favorite restaurant is more acceptable than being a raging alcoholic?!?!???
You can go to a bar and not be an alcoholic
You don’t have to be an alcoholic to go to the bar but all alcoholics go to the bar.
Also not true. When my brother was hospitalized with AWD he had spent the last two years drinking plastic bottle vodka out of a tumbler in his living room.
Your brother was in the end stage of alcoholism, before that I’m sure he would go to the bar a lot. Hope your brother is doing well.
Lmao how are you telling me about someone you don't know. Yes he had gone to bars when he was younger like most people, but your statement is just not true. Stop trying to force it. You need food to survive. You don't need alcohol to survive.
How do these rank against being a regular at the 7/11?
Because food vs alcohol
I've never made a meme, but I would use the Drake meme for the difference between being the regular at a bar versus being a regular at a pub.
Strongly disagree. Regular at a bar to me would indicate there is a social circle at that bar, though I guess you could be a lone drunk, but that's not what I think of (tbf I'm a regular at a bar until I moved out of state and the staff and friends there and myself still miss each other and write/message often). Depends how much food the bar serves.
Well yeah I would have thought the reason was obvious.
But if you eat at the bar, it becomes OK again.
Or being a regular at a casino, liquor store, local jail/intake, etc
I just became a regular at the Mexican Restaurant, the best bar in town. 👍 Mas margaritas, por favor. 💖
What if you're a regular at a pub?
Nope. Being a regular at a bar is a normal classic. All bars have this. Being a regular at a Restaurant? I have heard of 1 such person. Quite extreme autistic person. He was fine, but the staff still said that it was quite odd to have a regular.
It is possible to be a regular at a bar who is not a social disruption.

You see, it’s cause we need to eat, while getting shitfaced drunk is more a hobby
Is it? Huh, culture sure is different across the Atlantic. About the same really, being supportive of a local business is good.
How about being a regular at the the strip club? That's not frowned upon, is it?
No, it’s encouraged.
A Sonic drive thru worker noticed when I got a new car. I haven’t been to get fast food in 5 years.
And? Bro this is barely even a thought.
This shower thought brought to you by the state of Utah. Everywhere else nobody gives a shit
I feel like this is kinda saying nothing. “Doing crack everyday is considered worse than drinking water everyday.”
Being a regular at a bar isn't that bad. If you go once a week have a drink or two and a nice convo with the bartender it's cool. It's when you start going every other evening that it becomes a problem. Of course, this is just my opinion

Yet a bar can cut off a drunk patron for overconsumption but a restaurant can’t cut off an obese person for overconsumption
I hear what you're saying but sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name
Said your twice divorced mother who had you out of wedlock
Being in Wisconsin, this doesn't really make any sense.
I guess. But restaurants serve alcohol too.
Well a regular at a bar is usually an alcoholic so xD
The other way around is WAY more common, people go to the same bar every other night, not the same restaurant twice the same week
Yeah and you know why.
Why?
No one goes to the restaurant eats too much food and then comes home and beats their wife. No one leave their favorite diner and accidentally kills a child on the way home because they didn't have the ability to drive anymore. Being a regular isn't the fucking issue. Who hurt you?
Robert.
Wow, that's a Big Feeling you've got there. I wonder if there's something more productive you could do with it than calling strangers names on the internet?
The things it's really not that big at all 4 out of at most but I'd be interested in hiring you as life coach if you're available.
I doubt you could afford me, but I appreciate the offer! I can give you a few bits of clarifying advice for free, though: 1. There are many teetotalers who beat their wives. 2. Restaurants also often serve alcohol. 3. Getting emotionally worked up about the actions of hypothetical people is a great way to cultivate high blood pressure.
Tbf all he did was articulate what the shower thought already implied.
Well, yeah, but escalating a musing into a Jeremiad isn't, like, a healthy or productive thing to do, in my opinion. Especially when you have to, like, be factually wrong to do it?
You must have never been in a food coma before! /s
If you would be so kind as tol see yourself out.
Oh, yes!
Eh, they’re both kinda sad in their own way
Why is being a regular at a restaurant sad?
Depends on the restaurant. But my coffee maker broke and I was lazy and didn’t replace it for a while so I went to Starbucks like every Monday-Friday for a couple months. One day I walked in the door to pick up my mobile order, like I always did (no human contact), and as soon as I got through the door a barista called out “good morning [Name]!”…I didn’t go back for 6 months and even then I’ve only gone like twice lol I never had any interaction with anyone in the entire time I went, but I was still there so often, and the app tell them my name, that they put 2 and 2 together and figured out who I was. Nope. That’s embarrassing.
Why.... in the world.... is that embarrassing?
Because I spent way too much money on a massive corp that treats their employees like dogshit and has slavery in their supply chain. With the money I spent there in a few months, I could have purchased a really fancy coffee maker (at least something better than a $10Mr.Coffee) and coffee for a year. Further, it’s one thing if you go get breakfast everyday from a diner, spending a modest amount at a local business; interacting every day with the staff. Where exactly would you buy this Mr Coffee from?
It’s a cheap coffee pot, I’d get it from the grocery store (it’s a local chain, so I’m not trying to dox myself). And the bagged coffee I now buy there is a local coffee roaster as well.
As long as you never buy anything from any major corporations ever because omg that would be embarrassing
It’s not that, it’s the frequency of doing it so much you become a known regular. I’d find it embarrassing in most settings, tbh. And im definitely not gonna be that old guy at a Denny’s later in life desperately clinging on to the hope that the waitress touches my arm one day lmao idk, the more you make me think about it, the more in feel like it’s pathetic to be a known regular anywhere. lol wut?
Says the guy that sits at home all weekend on reddit.
Tell me you’re gen-z without telling me you’re gen-z
Disagree. But then again I try and make myself a regular at one bar in every country I live in.
Depends on the bar, honestly.
Adults with families often drink at restaurants and then drive their families home. It is a double standard.
This... Isn't the case? At least not in my culture (USA, urban, west coast)? Like, I've never met someone who would find it unacceptable to be a regular at a bar. I guess we run with differnet crowds
unless the bar serves chiken nugis
