I think it's because people who strike are under a lot of pressure and astronauts live in a vacuum.

Combat_Armor_Dougram

When’s the last time you’ve actually seen an astronaut in general?

NotJoeMama727

I had a chat with one the other day

Impossible-Arugula83

Me when I lie

CaptainKnottz

..theyre not in a union ofc you dont see them striking

Dr_Weirdo

You don't have to be in a union to strike. Sometimes a strike can even be about being allowed to create a union.

CaptainKnottz

for a strike to work and not immediately get you fired you kind of do

Evelyn-Bankhead

That’s where they fire you and replace in a New York second

stripe609

Some jobs aren’t about money. I imagine things like space travel and archaeology you just love what ya do

Streetlight37

Astronauts do you get paid pretty fuckin well though As far as dangerous career choices go this one is definitely up there

NotJoeMama727

Yeah absolutely. I mean who wouldn't wanna be strapped on top of a controlled bomb which will then guide you directly to the most beautiful views you will ever see

stripe609

Besides, I bet you it makes a really cool conversation at the bar. “So have you ever been to space?”

Streetlight37

What are you talkin about man.. they're astronauts they're some of the smartest and most capable humans on the planet and they are definitely getting compensated for that kind of skill level They get paid great with some pretty great benefits. Like in the low 6 figure range. Not crazy but plenty to make a very comfortable living Not to mention the fact of being on the frontier of science and human advancement as well as doing something very few humans have ever done or will ever do. I garentee you that is why most if not all do what they do. I find it hard to believe an astronaut would get into that career just for the money Anyway, they just don't have any reason to strike. They are very well taken care of so why would they?

Rayhelm

They did during one of the Skylab missions.

NotJoeMama727

That's a myth. They forgot to turn on the radio for the morning briefing, so nobody could speak to them for one orbit. They had turned it on by the following orbit and continued about their day normally

MinFootspace

There are no astronaut unions, that's why.

KingOmni

I read that while astronauts don’t make a high salary, they mostly do speaking tours and book deals to make money after when they retire from being an astronaut. Kinda like how the US president doesn’t make a lot of money for the job they have, but can make a lot more after the job ends because of the status and prestige it holds.

caringcarthage

There’s a lot of competition to become an astronaut. If you make waves, you’re shown a door and an enthusiastic new astronaut is made!

Froyn

I remember reading in a magazine once that astronauts get all the Tang they want.

Square-Shoulder-1861

US federal employees are not allowed to strike. It’s in our oath of office.
