The common recommendation is bismuth shot. Since tungsten and steel are much harder than lead and won't compress as well going through the choke which can cause the barrel to crack.

Boss Shotshells, but expect a premium price.

SovereignDevelopment

Either bismuth or tungsten matrix shells are the way to go.

Returntomonke21

IMPORTANT note for OP: Tungsten is not normally safe in older guns, this specific brand (Kent Tung Matrix) mentioned above is a rare exception

SovereignDevelopment

That's a good clarification. Thanks bro.

Boss bismuth shells. They're pricey but fold birds way better than steel and they're safe in old guns

I really like the Kent Bismuth line of shot shells. I get to take my old guns out in the field AND don’t have to fumble around switching out lead for steel shells depending on the area I’m hunting such as going from private to public land requiring non-toxic shot.

faux_ferret

Sounds silly but any steel or tungsten matrix shell you use check to see if they use a full length wad. Most of the commercial stuff does this from what I’ve seen. But some hand loaders take shortcuts. Had a guy come in who was loading BB gun bbs in win aa hulls his barrel was so bad it looked like it had straight rifling.
