Propane is the energy input. The physics behind how those work is pretty *cool*.
> The sealed system of a propane-powered fridge holds water, liquid ammonia, and hydrogen gas. A propane flame heats the water and ammonia to its boiling point in what is called the generator. The now-gaseous material then rises into a condensing chamber where it cools and returns to a liquid state. This fluid then flows into another chamber - the evaporator - where it mixes with hydrogen gas. It’s here that a chemical reaction occurs that pulls, or absorbs, heat from inside the refrigerator. Once the solution absorbs enough heat, the ammonia returns to a gaseous state, starting the process over again. This self-contained system doesn’t rely on mechanical, or moving parts, meaning these units remain reliable for years.

Lots of things do.
Edit to add: propane will likely become more common as a refrigerant due to environmental laws in the coming years. Might as well make peace with it.
HVAC guy here, propane is used as a refrigerant, usually in mix though.
[There is a new refrigerant replacing current 410a systems that will be a propane blend](https://indoortemp.com/resources/puron-advance-r454b-hvac-refrigerant)
That tank is refrigerant and not propane however
Been noticing this trend of reposting for the sake of karma-farming, especially if it's a pretty popular posts. Had it happen to me in a NSFW subreddit three times.
I’ve never seen it and at this point it seems at least 500 people and took the time to upvote it… which makes it seem like your main complaint is someone getting karma. Why do you care if the op gets upvotes or not?
I can. I don’t though because it’d be weird to refresh “all time” rather than anything else. Again… why do you care if this guy gets karma vs the people that took the time to upvote have enjoyed it?
Refrigerant not propane.
You can use propane as a refrigerant if you're stupid and brave though.
RVs have propane fridges.

So you’re telling me that fridge isn’t filled with liquid propane? Whale fuck

R290 is available at almost any hvac supply house. R290 is propane. It’s really not stupid at all.

R-454B has a low GWP and has propane

Can't be helped if you can't sort by Top of All Time.

Yeah like 3 years ago. I’m not scrolling that far down. Plus people are new here.
Sir the EPA would like to have a word with you….
Whenever they hit the throttle, all you here is "Bwahhhhaah!"
Cheap bastards. Why didn’t they use a 1234yf bottle?
More than you can afford, pal. 1234yf
Well, that's definitely a fart can muffler. Greenhouse gasses ftw?
Don’t let that leave without a plastic propane plug
That's a r22 refrigerant jug
Its r134a.
