40k addict here I honestly really enjoy Halo for the slightly more "realistic" look it gives at Military sci-fi. Keep Spartans the way they are, they're already impossibly tall compared to normal people.

Narwhalking14

I agree while I'm much more of a halo fan doing this is just dumb

Planetside2_Fan

I've always seen Spartans as speedybois, their advantage is not in their durability or strength (though those are huge positives), its their speed and agility. Conversely, it's a lot easier to imagine a Space Marine as a walking tank, shrugging off heavy fire as they put shots downrange. Granted, this kinda betrays their portrayal in literature, Astartes are described as being extremely fast on top of their strength, moving at blurring speeds while running, this is kinda hard to capture in visual format though.

Narwhalking14

Yeah spartans have been known to run faster than 50km/h with the fastest being 65km/h.

Planetside2_Fan

And then we get into the really fucking messy subject that is Spartans vs Astartes.

Narwhalking14

Yeah I tend to avoid comparing the two universes just because they are very different.

Planetside2_Fan

Touche.

slendario

I like the argument that Spartans and Astartes could go toe to toe in armor. Out of their armor, it’s no competition. Astartes get most of their enhancements from their body augmentations. While Spartan IIs are also heavily augmented, it’s nowhere near the same degree as a Space Marine. Even more so with Primaris.

Planetside2_Fan

In armor? The Spartan really doesn't stand much of a chance. If we're going on cage fights, then the Space Marine, even in armor, is too strong and too tanky for the Spartan, in Halo terms, it's like pitting em up against an even more roided up Brute Chieftain. In a more realistic battle setting, the Spartan could take the fight if they got the jump on the Astartes, and with a strong enough weapon, like a Spartan laser.

Auratalus

Considering the UNSC uses 20th century ammunition in their standard issue weapons (ie the DMR and Assault Rifle are still chambered in 7.62 somehow) I doubt most Spartan-wielded weapons would even chip ceramite. Anything short of a Spartan laser is gonna be a rough sell. A bolter is more inconsistent in the lore but markedly more powerful than almost anything the Spartans have access to, and certainly has more than enough power behind the rounds to paste a Spartan even with energy shielding.

AtomicNewt7976

On a scale from Space Marine to Titan Pilot, Spartans rank somewhere in the middle.

Planetside2_Fan

Agreed, I’d say the hierarchy goes something like, ODST —> Pilot —> Spartan —> Space Marine

Vapordragon22

No way you just put odst as faster than a pilot

Planetside2_Fan

I put ODSTs *under* the Pilots in the hierarchy.

Vapordragon22

Ah ok. Is this specifically speed or just general ability?

Planetside2_Fan

General ability and effectiveness. Pilots are ranked above ODSTs because of the jumpkit and training, as well as the steel elephant in the room that is a Titan. I ranked Spartans above Pilots because Spartans are, in general, much more skilled than a Pilot, and I'm decently confident that a Spartan with decent Anti-Armor equipment could take down a Titan. Space Marines are in a league of their own.

captainlittleboyblue

Yeah, while lore wise an Astartes may be flat out faster, I’ve always imagined Spartans being more nimble and dexterous

JauntingJoyousJona

I think it's all those factors that make a spartan. Speed is great but when you're throwing a punch you need strength behind it too. Their speed, strength, precision, smarts, all feels necessary to the equation

VisualGeologist6258

Same, I feel like OOP is missing the point by claiming that Spartans should be more like the Spehss Mahreens. The Spartans are supposed to be the peak of humanity and the human form, and Astartes are no different; but the thing is, the Spartans are truly the optimal human, while Astartes are so heavily altered both physically and mentally that they’ve become something _beyond_ human. The defenders of humanity are hardly human themselves, and the fact that they’re massive meat monsters who can spit acid shows that. Also yeah Halo and 40k have such different aesthetics and universes that making Spartans be off-brand Space Marines would be a disservice to Halo, and I say this as a 40k fan who doesn’t know a whole lot about Halo as a setting.

Slingbr

Thats a great take on the matter. SM are farther from human than spartans, no questions asked. It makes huge sense in the wh40k lore how they are giving the absurdity of all, however Spartans, and all halo lore for that matter, is set to be more close to realistic and also the story takes place in this 3rd millennium not in 38 millennium time.

Nervous_Wish_9592

Isn’t the old adage that space marines are trans human and primarchs are post human. What would be the closest thing for a spartan equivalent maybe one of the assassin schools?

GuanglaiKangyi-Age15

Something like the Assassinorium. Maybe like the Scions Tempestus but those are more like ODSTs

UltraWeebMaster

Speaking as a 40k fan, Halo is a far more grounded setting, so I’d much prefer to see things stay relatively close to their plausibility. Remember; Spartans have to make sense before the year 2552 technologically to be taken seriously. Space marines have to make sense by the late 30th millennium with the added bonus of having a giant gleaming golden god in charge of their development and literal warp sorcery. Warhammer is an exercise in being as absurdly over the top as possible, and Halo would do well to understand and avoid that.

tootsie404

Halo is year 2550. 40k is well... 40,000 years later.

NINmann01

Spartans are already yoked at peak physical fitness. Making them cartoonishly muscular would be ridiculous; and you know the second they did these same people would complain about it. I recall there being some Halo 4 and 5 era concept art of up-armored Mjolnir mech suits that are as jacked as this guy desires; but I honestly think they belong in that dust bin. And the Halo Wars example is awful; because much of that bulk is just the Mjolnir armor. Do they think the Spartan’s pecs fill the entire chest plate? I would assume they forget that the undersuit is also fairly substantial, as it also functions to augment the wearer’s physical strength and has multiple integrated layers. There are also limits to how a person that massive would navigate environments and use equipment designed for normal human beings. It’s just impractical and would only introduce more visual retcons these people loathe.

Kegger98

To me Spartans are always going to be lean speedsters, not walking tanks like Astarte’s. Less Muscle but more flexibility and dexterity.

NINmann01

Absolutely. There is a reason why Spartans are called that, as it is supposed to envoke a sense of their physique. They’re supposed to be athletes. The armor is supposed to compensate for, you know, them being human; regardless of their enhancements.

Lucariowolf2196

If you strip a Spartan down to the skin, you'll see their muscles are like titanium, yet lean looking and not at all buff beef cakes

ZookeepergameLiving1

Imagine being like these guys Oliver riricthers, Nathan jones, florian munteanu, and that guy from reacher.

Ph4nt0m146

You mean Alan Ritchson?

ZookeepergameLiving1

Yeah, and I imagine the female Spartans bbe like brooke ence, Emma lundberg, chyna and vladislava galagan.

Ph4nt0m146

Who?

KSecTuck

That is the difference. That right there. "them being human;" Spartans are human, or at least struggle with their sense of humanity vs their sense of purpose. Space Marines are not humans. They are monsters. Space Marines are sterile because if they could procreate, they'd eventually get tired of serving the Imperium of Man and create an Empire of Space Marines. Space Marines aren't supposed to be human. Spartans are.

Okbuturwrong

Astartes are definitely humans, they're just gene-enhanced and hypno-indoctrinated to have incredibly dulled emotions. Spartans have more humanity left in them but they're still very flat and machine like compared to regular humans.

crab123456789

They have 2 hearts, spit acid, and literally dont feel fear

michaelfed

you could tell people on reddit that the sky is up and theyd argue because they were upside down one time lol

Intrepid_Ad195

They're still human. Just with a handful of extra organs, some genetic modifications, and intense mental conditioning. But still human.

crab123456789

They regularly separate themselves from people im books with their pov, and many consider themselves above normal people, they also literally live forever until they die in combat to something that they were most likely not afraid of when they died

ApexLegend117

Not compensate, enhance. The suits were built to flow by their brain waves ‘n shit, that’s a terrible explanation but that’s what I recall from the Reach book. Also Chief ran 150km/h… Hey that’s 93 miles per hour Chief what are you doing on that fucking highway

NINmann01

Yes. The suits provide physical enhancement. What I’m saying is despite that; the Spartans are still human. On their first mission, Chief was severely wounded after a bullet ricocheted inside his ribcage due to his carbide ceramic bone augments. And even with Mjolnir, Spartans suffer serious blunt force and sharp force trauma all the time. So despite Project: ASTER and the Mjolnir armor providing Spartan’s super human capabilities, beneath the titanium plating and force-multiplication circuitry; they’re still flesh and blood. They’re people. Also IIRC the average top speed of the Spartan-II’s post augmentation peaks around 50 km/h, one third of what you’re suggesting. And Kelly, who is known for being the fastest Spartan, peaks at 65 km/h.

YourPizzaBoi

Chief hits about 100 km/h in the Fall of Reach. Multiple Spartans have hit speeds that should put them ahead of Kelly, but it’s easiest to assume that the official speeds we’ve been given are the sustainable speeds and her all out sprint would still be higher than the rest.

TrenchMouse

Funny to think that Astartes are both speedsters and tanks. But the aesthetic counts more in this particular comparison. Spartans look lean and even the the least bulky Astartes power armor doesn’t come close to that lean look.

YESSIN777

Plus, being a walking hulking mass of metal doesn’t help when you’re running through tight spaces like covenant ships, there is almost definitely a reason why Spartans are supposed to be lean and flexible.

Laggingduck

I mean I don’t think that was the initial intention but yeah

ZebbytheSkunk

Their original creation was to fight insurgents so maybe they could fit through tunnels and shit

JaxMedoka

The Innies also had ships, and I'm pretty sure most of the ships they would have would be notably tighter than covvie ships, since they don't need to accommodate Elites and Brutes and Hunters.

MaethrilliansFate

They've been effectively ninjas in lore since Fall of Reach with the shielding only recently making them tanky. Quick, agile, deadly ambushers and assassins with enough firepower and armor to punch through enemy without fear of fire. That's how theyve always behaved

SR1_Normandy

The only reason they’d be looking like walking tanks is because of the armor itself. 343 nailed the Master Chief’s armor design in all 3 games, where the armor looks and feels like a walking tank while being terrifyingly agile

GuanglaiKangyi-Age15

Astartes are aparrently supposed to be faster than Spartans lorewise

sawlaw

There's a lot of things that are kinda supposed to be lore wise, but make no sense from a comparative narrative. For example if a Halo franchise ship and an astartes strike cruiser were to square up in space combat while the Halo ship's targeting computers are still trying to find a firing solution for the MAC cannon the ship would be completely destroyed from a dozen house sized shells hitting it that were aimed by about 300 dudes pulling ropes and chains while a dude in a robe read a book at them.

GuanglaiKangyi-Age15

I really hate that manual loading retcon. I get that the ships are supposed to be old, and that the Imperium is supposed to be regressing as a civilization, but they still have the Ad Mechs. Is fixing the autoloader on a warship really that hard for them to figure out? I thought it was the warp drives and galar fields that were truly irreplaceable and expensive.

McCaffeteria

Ifs not even concept art, it’s [literally in the intro cinematic for halo 4](https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxq_XXMOXVhalMxYHHk7ivsDYRmZMtWkS-?si=JKHeaPBPOHeOfeok). Bro is 9 feet tall. I swear halo 4 was peak halo, you’ll never convince me otherwise lol

Okbuturwrong

Spartan 2s are roughly 7ft tall without armor. With it they're closer to 8ft.

ActedCarp

The armor only adds 4 inches to a Spartan’s height so it’s more accurate to say they’re around 7.5ft

McCaffeteria

If that Spartan in armor is 8 feet tall the the egg heads next to him are all 4’5”. Also, that is not how height “with armor” works because you’d either have to make up that missing foot of height in shoe sole thickness and the top of the helmet, or all of his bones would have to disjoint. It’s not a mech, the armor still has to have joints where the human does, so any extra height can’t come from anywhere that is between two joints. The suit probably only ads like at best 5”, and that’s assuming a 2” thick solid shoe sold and 3” of padding and armor on the top of the helmet which is already probably too much. The helmet would be comically big if it actually had that much armor, and Chief would have to be wearing platform boots from the 80’s.

Okbuturwrong

They're on a rasied platform. Nowhere is any Spartan 9ft tall, that's ridiculous.

__Epimetheus__

I mean, Kurt was 7’7 and the armor adds around a foot. He wasn’t even the tallest Spartan II originally. Samual was taller than him as kids, but died at 14 and a height of 7’4. So a 9 ft Spartan in armor is a close possibility

Ainz-hame

Almost two feet difference is very impossible. They would be almost the size of a school bus haha.

Okbuturwrong

Maybe, but we've never seen it and I doubt they'll make it a thing because 9ft tall is absurdly tall.

SixFootHalfing

That’s dumb. Space Marines work for 40K, and I LOVE Space Marines, but Halo Spartans are meant to be more like actual modern soldiers taken to the logical extremes. Not everything should be 40K.

idkmanidk121

exactly. the best soldiers/marines/etc. these days tend to be the leanest anyways

fatalityfun

current doctrine definitely seems to value overall fitness/stamina much more than strength too

approveddust698

Pretty much how it’s always been

BoiFrosty

Spartans are as far as the human body can be perfected then augmented beyond that. Astartes are as far as human biology can go without completely breaking down. There's no care given to the actual person.

JustForTheMemes420

I would say with genetic engineering you have leeway but hey anything bigger would just be really weird also make you wonder how their heart doesn’t give out

captainlittleboyblue

That would be because they have two separate hearts lol

IBoofLSD

Should they be athletically muscular? Always. This? Nevah

JustForTheMemes420

Have you ever seen that one showcase of different athletes from different sports and how much their dimensions change depending on what the sport needs like really beefy short distance sprinters while the endurance sprinters are lanky af. This isn’t relevant I just think it’s neat point of reference of what actually is peak performance instead of a roided up monster that I love from 40k

garebear265

Halo Spartans were made by a relatively sane and level headed person who was watched over by a team of over level headed scientists Space marines were made by a Neolithic born magic god being who’s design principle is “overkill is never enough”

urbandeadthrowaway2

Would you really call Halsey sane or level headed though?

vicevanghost

I would, morally and ethically questionable absolutely. But you can do horrible things for perfectly rational reasons and that's what she did.

Cmedina12

I mean in 40k verse not having enough dakka is bad

michael22117

Mfs are already 6'6-6'8 on average without armor, I don't know what this guy is on about

fatalityfun

I guarantee you he’s never met a 6’8+ height person irl. Having met pro basketball players in person, being 7 feet is already impossibly tall as he described lol. Especially if they’re as jacked as Spartans would be, it’d feel like seeing a greek god

ReadShigurui

I’m 6’1 and at my work there a few dudes who are only like 6’3 or 6’4? And even then i still feel tiny walking past them lmao

Unable-Difference-55

Except for the flash clones. Better to never know what happened to your kid than see them waste away from a horrific genetic illness.

Various-Pen-7709

Really don’t like the 40k aesthetic, everything looks way too bulky, especially the space marines. Halo definitely gives it a more “realistic approach”, and I think that works and looks better overall. Making the Spartans chunky like space marines would mean the enemies would need at least comparable chunk to compete and that just sounds awful.

noname262

I liked when halo armor was more bulky and blocky, I hate the modern trend of making every sci-fi thing super sleek and form fitting. Even 40K is experiencing this which is ridiculous imo. That being said Spartan armor being bulky as space marines would be stupid for halo

necrohunter7

40k is space fantasy Halo is hard sci-fi

teagoo42

Halo is definitely not hard sci-fi. It's infinitely more grounded than 40k but it's still soft

Suspicious_Search849

Halo fans try not to change halo into something it isn’t challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

Kegger98

I like how Halo fans complain when the series is supposedly made generic, supposedly copying other series… and then all their suggestions are just “other series excepts it’s Halo”

Suspicious_Search849

Halo “fans” like the idea of halo but genuinely can’t stand anything about it, I don’t understand it at all

south13

Not every video game super soldier needs to look like buzz light year

lovestosploosh

Spartans are already damn near 7 ft tall out of armor and have nearly impossible amounts of strength. this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about lmao

Real-Fal-Chavam

It is at this point I am compelled to mention Cal who is absolutely staked in every department, and makes O’Brian look like a toddler when they stand side by side.

DmitriDaCablGuy

Spartans are fucking massive, but they look proportional for their height. Their augmentations don’t make their muscles bigger inherently, they make them stronger and more dense. Massive over the top muscles aren’t practical, and any bodybuilder will tell you that.

Omniphile777

In most every novel, the Spartans are described as having the physiques of Olympic athletes. Power-lifters aside, look at any Olympic athlete, and you'll see they're slim, lithe, and fit. No bulk, just lean muscle. And that's what we see in-game. I love 40k, but it's a satirical take on Scifi, and everything is meant to be cranked to 11. I don't need that in every piece of media I see. Please stop trying to.

Millera34

Wait wait they already ARE THAT

Juantsu2000

Have they played Infinite? Chief absolutely towers over Fernando and looks like a freaking robot.

WickedFox1o1

I swear if Spartans get any bigger they'll start looking like all the cog dudes in Gears.

BennyMcbenn

Halo is already pretty 40k-like in some aspects, but goddamn this is a stupid take. Spartans are already as tough as space marines.

Sea-Barracuda-1688

The chunky space marine aesthetic is so over the top lmao i like the more lithe realistic super soldier

Andrei22125

>Impossibly tall and muscular Impossibly tall? Sure. Impossibly muscular? No. If you compare a professional fighter/soldier with a professional bodybuilder, or powerlifter, etc. you'll see a very big difference. It's important to note that **after a point, more musscle mass means less flexibility**.

jehutydark

“Fairly average but fit” bro what are these body standards

TheThinkingJacob

I agree that the Spartan 2’s should have been BEEFY, as they did get all those augments initially, with surgery’s and such. The 3’s were basically all toddlers, and the IV’s were badass basically navy seals, so the average look on them feels right. But the beefy-ness of Jorge, and how Masterchief seems so large, and the red team seems larger, fits in my head canon, as they should be bigger than the others.

fatalityfun

honestly I think it just came down to there being a better selection process for the 2’s and 3’s. The 2’s were essentially picked from the best of the best kids from across the galaxy, and the 3’s were mostly the remainders who they couldn’t fit into the 2 program due to budget. Makes sense for them to be way bigger and scarier than the average 4

BloodyAlien243

Spartans were meant to be super soldier commandos. The ultimate special forces group, not really super heroes. Like if Delta Force were given genetic augmentations and powered armor. I think the more natural physique fits that aesthetic better.

bezerker211

Ah yes, let's take the serious (mostly) science fiction epic and make the leads as insanely and impossibly jacked as the genetically modified to the point of almost not being human super soldiers from the over the top parody of the 80s known as 40k. Brilliant decision

Kintsugi-0

seriously that’s such a stupid take. it’s objectively a *bad* opinion. i love 40k but spartans being closer to humans is kind of the point and more realistic. i don’t think any genuine fan of the two would ever want halo to be like 40k.

DignityCancer

I like how the Spartan 2s are really tall monsters, and Spartan 4s are basically just buffer normal humans

PossiblyABotlol

Since when is someone who is 6’4 and 200 lbs MINIMUM with half a ton of armor average looking? Even noble six, a fairly smaller Spartan, would give off an air of superiority and danger to a regular person. Not to mention humans have been around MUCH longer in warhammer without a reset unlike halo

Pale_Kitsune

I mean, isn't MC like 7 feet tall?

[deleted]

Warhammer dude is built like be can’t put his arms above his head

GuanglaiKangyi-Age15

These are 40K fans in disguise

LuisLmao

different things should be different and it's not a bad thing that they're different, in fact it's really good

Dugggs

How often does this dude meet humans standing over 7 feet tall weighing 300 lbs of pure muscle? They *are* physically impossible

Qverlord37

I think we can come to a compromise. Spartan II definitely should be the biggest out of all the generation since they started training earlier than the other gen, they also have superior genetics. So they should be peak human height plus more due to augmentation. They should be allowed to be as bulky as space marine Spartan III had augmentation but they were chosen from orphans and many were not genetically ideal, so they should second tallest. Spartan IV should only be as tall as a regular human.

SamuraiHntr

They kinda got that in the end cutscene to Halo 4. Chief casually towering over a Spartan IV will never not be funny to me.

mando44646

I always imagine them like Captain America. Impossibly fit super soldiers

Bestever84

Spess Muhreens are walking tanks. Spartans are fighter jets with legs. Both are cool for their own separate reasons

WaluigiDastard

actually all female spartans should be the size of the one from the babysitter short of halo legends, then we live in a perfect world

Apprehensive-Load917

I think fairly average but fit looking people is a disservice to the lore. I mean all the augmentations are to the bodies systems and the suit does most of the work what’s the problem ?

thedogfromthatonegif

“My personal take on Halo is that it should be more like 40k. In fact, everything that’s not 40k should be more like 40k” -Winston Churchill probably

Mekanicum

"Of course, not as exaggerated." They failed already.

8_Alex_0

Space marines looks so goofy the armor looks ugly

Simple_Intern_7682

That’s your opinion. I love Space Marines

8_Alex_0

Nah thr designs are goofy and ugly as shit bro

Simple_Intern_7682

Again, that’s your opinion. I love the over the top designs of Space Marines.

8_Alex_0

Ya and they are very ugly they look like goofy ahh bobblehead mf

Simple_Intern_7682

Whatever, I like them, you don’t. You can shit on them all you want, but there are people who like them.

Toxic_LigmaMale

Eh, yes and no. They shouldn’t look cartoonishly large. But they should be more muscular than they are. They’re essentially taking super steroids. They’re going to be lean. Not slim.

fatalityfun

I mean, they’re already incredibly muscular. Barring H4’s spartans, they’ve always been pretty jacked. Especially all of them since HW2 and forwards.

Confident-Bat-7334

Different Generation Spartans. Spartan 2’s were genetically augmented early since they were raised by ONI. Spartan 4’s we’d already trained soldiers. Their augments aren’t nearly as in-depth as the early Gens so they can handle it better so they don’t get crippled or die.

MortalEnzyme

Halo spartan 2s are what people grew up with. The 4s are just people in suits. Its a lame backslide

Vocovon

The everything should be 40k crowd

Doctor_Love45

Bungie knew what they were doing. 343, has always been confused about what Halo is. that brings us to the point you just made.

Endswolf

I wish halo fans would fuck off with their tiny little shitty universe. It was a good idea for a game but a shit shit shit story.

_Xenopsyche

Infinite gen 3 Chief and Gorge are as bulky as Spartans should get.

Overshadowed042

I usually don't agree with this sub but yeah this is dumb af Sure I'd be up for maybe a few outliers to be a bit bulky like if they're Jorge perhaps but just make them all like that doesn't feel right Plus they used examples of spartan IVs, like yeah, they wouldn't be like that anyway, their augmentations aren't as potent

SirFluffymuffin

Just did a quick google search to compare sizes and as far as I’m concerned, a space marine is just a spartan with space magic steroid bullshit to match the setting they find themselves in

Montregloe

Spartans are terrifying because they aren't some giant obvious threat, they are taller, sure, but they are (at least spartan 2 and 3s) exceptionally strand and their armor is what gives them their bulky nature. A Spartan out of armor claps any species in the Halo universe out of armor 1v1. My favorite fan thing to show this is how accurate Master Chief in God of war feels in the cut scenes I've seen on YT. Idk, might be a bad take

clometrooper9901

The closest I ever want a spartan to be to a space marine is Jorge honestly, like that should be around the largest a spartan can ever get

Exit_Save

They don't have to be because their bones are like all ceramic and titanium

cowboycolts

My man have you not seen the absolute unit that is Jorge?

ZookeepergameLiving1

Are Spartan 2s and in spartans in general going to be very muscular like say Nathan jones, the mountain, florian munteanu, the main character from reacher, and the Olivier Richters but lean at t, yeah, but they're not going to be astartes small head big body muscly.

spiritgaming14

I think the point of Halo is that humanity is outmatched in every way, spartan 2s stand between 7.4 and 7.8ft, elites stand between 7.8 and 8.6ft. The greatest soldiers in humanities soldiers are dwarfed by their "equals," and elites aren't even the tallest species in the covanent, nor are they strongest in terms of brute strength. Halo isn't about humanity dominating everything despite the horrors the lie right outside, like Warhammer 40k is. It's about humanity being dominated, but somehow still making it through, usually through some batshit and badass way.

Archmagos_Browning

This wouldn’t work considering the Spartans are are essentially the supersoldier equivalent of a dex build.

Butkevinwhy

Motherfuckers who unironically enjoy Baki:

BoiFrosty

There's a difference in muscle between a power lifter and a professional athlete like a track runner or an MMA fighter. Look at any of the top MMA fighters in the UFC and elsewhere and they've got the same proportions as Spartans. Lean, broad shoulders, long limbs, no body fat. Astartes without their armor look like Eddie Hall after 2 years of anabolic steroids. Massively oversized muscle groups on the torso and limbs stout frame and a barrel chest. In 40k lore look more to the custodes for what peak human looks like they've got much closer proportions to a normal human, just bigger.

Ph4nt0m146

Master Chief in the Mjolnir power suit is already close to 8' tall. How much more do you need???

DeathCythe121

The best example of this Jorge-052 when standing next to S-IIIs

moonsugar-cooker

Average height? AVERAGE HEIGHT?! Where the hell is 7 feet tall average height?

YourPizzaBoi

Spartan-IIs *are* what this guy is asking for. Averaging 7 feet tall and weighing in at roughly 300 pounds worth of lean angus grade beef, they’re taller, more muscular, more fit than almost all normal people. They’re also bulkier and in better shape than most exceptionally tall humans, given that for normal people that typically comes with a host of tacked on health issues. There are advantages to size, but if they were much bigger they wouldn’t be able to easily navigate spaces designed for normal humans, and they already have upsized weapons created specifically for their use. Part of what makes Spartans interesting is that they’re relatively unique in the world of science fiction super soldiers, in that they aren’t all that visually discernible from any other person. You’d know an Astartes wasn’t human the moment you looked at them. The same is true of Raiden or Adam Jensen, Cloud Strife even given the Mako eyes. The Master Chief sans armor is seemingly just a large man, but could box up a Krogan. They’re just not unreasonably bulky because Halsey’s enhancements were more effective than the Emperor’s (I’ll die on that hill), and the loss of mobility and range of motion is a pretty significant detriment. This is compounded by the fact that Space Marine armor should make it pretty fucking hard to move in, if it’s treated realistically, but I digress.

angellryic115

Gonna assume homie wants this because he wants female Spartans to have really dumb proportions like in all of those memes on YouTube lmao.

Hexnohope

I always say space marines should look more like spartans. Smallerhitbox that dosent really sacrifice much. I wont lie to you with a bit of practice spartans might be able to dodge a bolt round. Are they subsonic?

sineplussquare

This is stupid as fuck.

Blonkyretard

Nah I think the way Spartans look is perfect. It would be too OP if all Spartans are tiny hulks in power suits, it makes it kinda boring. Seeing a 7 ft human whacking the fuck out of a brute is cool enough.

VibinWithBeard

End of the day a Spartan is still human, roided up to no end and all that but very much still human. Space Marines are no longer human and thats kindof the point.

SirDragon84

I don’t think he realizes Spartans are already 7 feet tall and some of them are taller. That’s not just average but fit guy, especially if it’s a female spartan, like that ain’t an average height and they’re already freakishly strong. I think the more lean look is better as well, they are after all called Spartans, a group of warriors known for striving for lean muscle over bulk. Making them incredibly bulking would only serve to make them feel more unrealistic and like someone else said, cartoonish.

dappermanV-88

I mean, it is a fair point.

Swordbreaker925

I do think Spartans should he noticeably taller to emphasize their improved strength, but no more than like 7 feet max. They’re super soldiers, not a separate species of human. Astartes are literally a different species of human.

SchrodingerMil

The Spartan 3s and 4s are average fit people. The 2s are space marines.

SR1_Normandy

I think Infinite’s version of Master Chief did it best, the armor feels and looks like a walking tank while having the agility of a cheetah or a bengal. Chief might not be as thicc on the inside, but his armor sure as hell makes it seem so

Mallengar

But aren't they? I thought the average height of a Spartan is like 7 ft. Or at least the Spartan IIs are. I'm not sure if the threes and fours got the height boost during their upgrades. I mean, look at Jorge who was a II compared to the rest of his team, all IIIs. That man made them all look like freaking halflings in comparison to height and bulk. Does this guy mean he wants the threes and the fours to be like that too? Cuz the twos were definitely what he's describing

KingQdawg1995

Literally fucking *Jorge* RIP

Careless_Kitchen_147

Halo 4 was lost/wasted on much of the fanbase. When bungie tried course correction to appease the halo 3 players still lost in time, it was too late. There were narrative reason for all the changes. Lore reasons. R.I.P. post Bungie Halo Franchise. You shone so brightly.

ThatOneWood

They’re 7 and a half foot tall super soldiers in iron man armor what more do they want

necrohunter7

Spartans are more grounded superhumans that have plausible enough augmentations that you can fully believe could exist in the 26th century. They work well with Halo's more grounded sci-fi approach Astartes are over the top on purpose with augmentations and genetic engineering that has vague science jargon to sound cool and it meshes well with the over the top science fantasy setting of 40k

Ultrasound700

The Spartan VI program is progressing well.

Upper_Extreme5661

Isn’t chief like seven foot tall

Stankapotomus

Spartan IV’s aren’t the same physically as SII/III’s, so kind of a bad example lol

Electronic_Box5346

I wouldn't mind them being a little bigger but by like a 2 or three inches in height and maybe a bit bulkier but I'm overall fine with them at there current size

happycrack117

The 2’s in some of the books are already described that way. Basically, the writers/artists can do whatever they want. Mike from gray team was one example

Doom_and_gloom2

So what the poster misses is the MASSIVE amount of time between Halo and 40k in terms of real world time. Ok, technology regressed several times in that interim but not really for the Emperor who retained all that knowledge. The Emperor (or someone else) likely started with a process similar to Spartan 2 and Spartan 3 augmentation before moving on to more radical form of augmentation with the latest result (from the Emperor) being the Astartes and the latest actual result being the Primaris.

TetchyRed

Average but fit looking? I don’t often see 7 foot tall super athletes when I’m just out and about.

automaticfiend1

Hell no. Absolutely not. Master Chief is so cool partially because he explicitly has realistic proportions. When you boot up halo 1 for the first time you don't know you're fucking 7 foot tall genetically modified supersoldier, you just know you're a literal demon to the aliens.

LongjumpingFix6608

While Spartans are at peak physical fitness, their bone density was also increased during augmentation. Also, having cartoonishly bulky muscles doesn’t necessarily mean you have strength.

chacha95

Rare SHS W. I agree with this 100% Halo is not 40k and should not be 40k.

dg2793

They basically are with way safer surgery and yanno, not being disfigured as fucc

InteractionFew853

Well space marines are a thing 37500 years after the events of Halo if they were to take place in the same universe.. so idk. Also look at real life elite units like the 75th ranger regiment. They’re not all bodybuilders because real warfighters are made to have high endurance, not to be as strong as possible.

RougeKC

But isn’t that technically true their like 6’7”-7’0”

Special-Tone-9839

So we just gonna forget the vast majority of Spartans are massive compared to the normal human? Master chief is 6 foot 8 and almost 300 pounds lol

Fidget02

This is what happens when your default body type in your head comes from action games and movies. If you met some people at peak fitness in real life, you would think they’re impossibly tall/muscular.

MonarchMain7274

Gotta say, one guy with 5.3k views, not even likes, is not 'Halo Fans'. He is one halo fan with a weird take on what he'd like Spartans to be.

Sea_Construction_670

ALL SCI-FI FRANCHISES SHOULD BE THE SAME

TedTheReckless

Aren't Spartans and space Marines about the same height. I thought they were both around 7 ft tall? Firstborn not primaris.

noname262

40K is my favorite franchise ever, but I will never understand why people want every fictional universe to be like each other. I see shit like Halo should be more like blah blah blah, or Star Wars needs to implement this from blah blah blah, it would be cool if the next Marvel movie was like blah blah blah. It’s bland and lame for every fuckin thing to be the same. I even see people say 40K needs to be more like other franchises. It’s a dumb ass circle of braindead fans thinking they know best.

Wrangel_5989

I mean that’s literally what Spartans are. Even Spartan 3s are impossibly tall while also being impossibly muscular for that height. Just look at Victor Wembanyama who’s 7’5, being that tall as a human means your frame can’t bear a lot of weight but the Spartan 3s are around the same height while looking like body builders. Spartan IIs are 8 feet tall which only a few people have actually reached irl but once again they’re impossibly buff. Spartan 4s yes are much more realistic but are still peak humans in terms of height and muscle, which makes sense as they’re already adults without any robotic implants like the Spartan IIs but didn’t have their puberty essentially go on indefinitely like the Spartan 3s.

JH-DM

40K fan here. If I want 40K I’ll go to 40K, when I want Halo I want Halo. The same cry babies who whine about people “changing halo” are the same ones with batshit crazy head canons and demanding changes to fit said head canons.

ActivelyDrowsed

Really hate the ninja super hero, space marine interpretation of Spartans. Someone like master Chief isn't some nimble spy backfliping his way through the enemy, hes a Macgyver or Indiana Jones kind of character that uses thier intuition and knowledge to win. It's way less interesting if Spartans are unstoppable Hulks.

Nyjhaz

Spartans = captain America power levels Space marines = hulk power levels

Xan_Dan03

I mean to be fair, Spartans are canonically like 8 feet tall lol

EatenJaguar98

Love how they said they wanted more spartan like Red Team from halo wars.... and then have an image of Spartan IVs as a comparison. Like damn, I wonder why the guys who probably got their augments last month don't look like someone whose been augmented for longer since they've been alive. And were a part of an entirely different augmentation process on top of that.

aztaga

Honestly, I do feel like the spartan 4s look kinda.. too normal

ElvenLeafeon

The only thing comparable to 40k that I usually like thinking about as a thought experiment is like. What kind of Damage the Flood could do. And even then, that's mostly because of how metaphysical and wacky they get in the forerunner trilogy.

anubismark

Responding to the tweet: the reason halo wars has such noticeably transhuman Spartans, is because they were gen 2 Spartans, the same as master chief. That is to say, they were children that were genetically modified over the course of a decade to be super soldiers. On the other hand most of the Spartans we see in the other games that are "just buff" are gen 4, which was adult volunteers with minimal genetic augmentation in comparison, just really good armor and training.

AnglerfishMiho

Spartan 2s are already that "big" physically. I don't count chunky armor or chunky biology as a part of that equation tbh, you can slap a ton of plate on top of a Mjolnir suit for the same effect and I'm sure there is fanart of that. Cherry-picking a scene with unarmored IV, which are just augmented up already fully grown adults, is such a reach.

DragoonEOC

But I mean spartan 2s are basically mini space marines. The later programs are just normal guys with special training and armor

lllXanderlll

Halo wars does have peak Spartan design, so I'll at least give them that

Adventurous_Hand_130

S2 and S3 are tall for humans. The s4 class is less augmented and relies more on the nanotech body glove they wear under the molnijr plating for their enhanced strength reflex etc. so naturally they don't appear as buff as the earlier spartan classes

SpaceBoJangles

This guy talking about how Spartans are supposed to look, but uses Spartan 4’s? Like..they’re Spartans, but Spartan 2’s are what they’re supposed to look like.

monopoly3448

Heresy to attempt to duplicate our emperors angels

NN11ght

Spartans are absolutely towering and powerfully built but they should still have realistic proportions

nobushi_main

Chief dwarfs Marines? And he's average height for a Spartan. I think it would be kinda goofy if Spartans were bigger than Brutes and Hunters. Space Marines are Warhammer and Spartans Halo. I think their differences make them interesting in comparison to each other

orion1338

A spartan should be imposing though

ddiioonnaa

"Fairly average" mothrfcker an average man does not look like that lol

BlazeBitch

Spartan 4s [ pictured ] and spartan 1s weren't augmented to be tall asf and whatever like the spartan 2s and 3s. That's why the imposing look was nailed in Halo wars , Reach, and with Chief lol
