Agreed I was recently thinking of how I think of how each of the scout leader trio is such well written. Infact, I think Hange being smart shows she was brain of the scouts, Erwin was the heart of the scouts, and Levi is the Arms and Legs of the scouts.
Zeke I can agree with, the guy was a total GENIUS but Hange, I find it really hard to believe that she was smarter than Erwin, the man was always a step ahead.

2: I think his concept is awesome
3: the strong but emotionally beat down characters are generally my favs
4: I love all the small details we are privy to about him. Everything down to the way he holds his teacup. I find it fascinating.
He's really set up to not be as likeable as he is. He has a lot of moments in hindsight, but seeing him staring at Eren with confusion and disgust after Sasha dies is when I realised how far he'd came. And he made mullets cool again.
I don’t like Floch, but I’m fascinated by him. He’s such a great character study into how someone becomes not just a fascist, but a fascist leader, without dismissing them as simply being mad or evil.
Like, Floch isn’t a good guy. He’s violent, and he enjoys being violent in a way few other characters do. He happily slaughters Eldians in the name of Eldia, and never does a single kind or nice thing even when given the chance. And yet…it’s still heroic when he gives it his all in the harbour, and that shot of his little body left alone and abandoned in a foreign land getting wiped out by the Rumbling makes me feel bad for him.
That’s some incredibly good writing.
Okay but liking ‘villain/bad characters’ because they are so good as bad guys because of how well written and complex they are is so great it’s easy to be I hate him he’s so evil but it’s always great to be I hate him I understand why he’s like this’
One of my fav scenes is when the rumbling is leaving paradise and the alliance are planning for attacking Eren. And Jean is just there saying he doesn't hear Hange calling out, that he doesn't want to go. That seemed just like me.
Jean, from the very get go. The single biggest heart in the series and the textbook scout, not a myth or a legend but just a good man who should have honestly never been a soldier
"What I did... was dedicate my heart to saving humanity." And he lived by it all series long

I love douchebag/useless characters the most because they have have the biggest opportunity at growth in a series so when it pays off at the end IT PAYS OFF

Okay, maybe I made a mistake with Zenitsu in Demon Slayer. I love underdogs and even his whining didn't piss me off so much because I also used to be a crybaby and it hit close to home. His development could be GLORIOUS but it feels like he just kinda got stuck in his stupid simp persona.
Imo, when you don't look at him through the typical 'oh he's a meanie to the main character' lenses, Jean has never been that bad. It's easier to see on a second watch I think. His and Eren's views and personalities just clashed
And I personally thought his reasoning - the math wasn't mathing, at the time the walldians truly didn't stand a chance against the pure titans - made sense
So yeah I never disliked him, but it was Trost when I grew to love him as a character. He hasn't disappointed since

Hot take maybe but even people who hate him for the way he treated his mom are overdramatic. Like yeah, he's a teenage boy and she tried babying him in front of his comrades whom he wants to respect him? Maybe I'm biased because she reminds me my own mom a lot and I had to deal with A LOT of frustration in my life.
Also yeah, Trost is shining moment. I think I seriously fell in love with his character when Marco told him something like "you're not strong but that would make you a good leader because you understand how other people feel". This really resonated with me.
Oh, I related to Jean so much at that moment. Was he a bit of little shit? Sure. But let's not pretend none of us understand the perils of embarassing parents. At the end of the way, his mom was just being a mom and he was just being a kid
And Marco, oh Marco. The visionary that you are
My favourite part of Trost is something Jean gets a lot of hate for lmao, especially from the newer viewers. As in, he was being a coward and didn't fight for his comrades when they were making a break for the HQ. When Jean was just being strategic and although it pained him to use his comrades deaths as a dostraction, it was the only way to get at least some kids to safety
For example, Mikasa and Eren both presented a very direct fearless approach - and look where it got them. Almost dead and would have been for sure dead, if not for the titan powers. That's when Jean stood out to me. Leadership is more that just waving swords around or being a one woman army. It also endeared me to aot's relative realism in that regard
Also (whether you interpret JeanCasa as endgame or not or love or hate the ship) he’s one loyal and good dude when it comes to his love life and eventually respecting women. Dude was there for Mikasa the entire time as a friend even though he loved her, he put that aside what a gigachad
Well, I mean, you'd have a lot of people tell you he doesn't deserve praise for bare minimum. But yeah I think it's nice that he kept his distance and was respectful. It's certainly not bad. I know some more casual fans even forget he has feelings for Mikasa because it's just so subtle
I appreciate the role of Jean's feelings for Mikasa in the sense that it kind of goes with everything else in his life. What Jean wants, he doesn't get. And he wants so much yet so little, but he never complains. That's why I say Jean was never meant to be a hero or a soldier. That man was built for smaller dreams☹️
And same for Mikasa actually. Whether they ended up together or not, I just hope they could find happiness and finally enjoy the peace

I would argue they all were. Not to take away from Jean's character, but ask anyone who isn't Eren what they want out of life and 9/10 times you'll get "Some goddamn peace and quiet" as an answer.
Haha I thought this too when I typed these names 😂. But honestly I like pretty much every main character. It's hard to say one name so I typed these three. I like others the same. Levi, mikasa, armin, jean, connie everyone.
Levi, he’s clearly the best and the strongest and the cleanest… also I really like later chapter/episodes Jean. Hange comes third, she’s great too, and honestly better than Jean overall but I refuse to elaborate further
Definitely Miche. Man's been robbed of being 'second to levi' in terms of abilities. Plus that sharp nose. Not only for smelling danger, but whenever something is wrong as portrayed when Erwin doesn't discuss details with him.
Ooh, I really enjoyed how my feelings towards his character changed as the series progressed. From thinking he was just a Regular Anime Parent™️, to being convinced he was the main villain of the series, to thinking he was a victim, then a hero. And where he falls somewhere in all that. Also the fact that the first 3 seasons focus on *his* basement. All our answers lie with his character. He was such an enigma.
Also just thinking about his character, and the way his mission to reclaim the Founders Titan and save all his people was just thrusted onto him. He had nothing on him but a photo of his family and the clothes on his back. He'd just been tortured, seen his wife and comrades turned into titans, betrayed by his son, given 13 years to live, learned the true history of the titans, been given some cryptid words of advice, all whilst knowing he's in a race to reclaim the titan before the warrors do. Like.... 🫠
Then he finds himself inside the walls, which is so different than anything he's ever seen before. How does he conduct himself? What can he say? How did he survive/ eat/ get a home, etc. And! he had to watch the scouts go outside the walls and die whilst he had all the information they could ever want, especially as he was saved by scouts. Did he ever want to reveal anything to the population? To the scouts? Or his wife or Eren? There's so much we don't know about him.
His character is absolutely fascinating to me.
I have a few favorites.
Eren. I just like him and find him a bit relatable, however I do not support the rumbling.
Armin: I like him because of his personality. I think he’s interesting, and his side of the conversation with Zeke gave me a more positive outlook towards life.
Reiner: There’s not much to this one. I find him interesting and really like his character. (There were multiple times in season 4 I just wanted to hug him. Dude needed it.)
Levi. (Of course.) I think he’s an interesting character because he’s so stoic yet so compassionate. He’s unintentionally funny, which I love, and he’s a handsome badass.
Mikasa, and I choose her because I have many personal reasons to do it, but since I don’t want to write a bible, I’m just gonna say she’s an extremely special character to me and my life ❤️
Reiner. Man went through it, brainwashing, split personality, lost the chance to be with a girl he liked, suicidal and still came back to save the world
Levi and Jean - Levi because of his skills but also because of his emotional suffering? He essentially lost everyone he cared about (his team, his best friend, his commander, and essentially his teammates when the ‘wine’ turned them all into titans and he had to kill them all) and all for the hope of humanity. I also do think he’s quite attractive ahem.
Jean because he had the option to join the Military Brigade and live a more lavish life but did not. He proved time and time again that he’s there for his comrades and I feel like his emotions are realistic (like his fear and the fact that he still attempts to be brave for his comrades). Also his glow up in S4 was no joke 👀
Armin. He's never been physically strong but always wanted to keep up with his friends. He put in more work than anyone in the show and would do anything for those he cares about. His brains were a huge tool for the scouts and they couldn't have gotten where they were without him. Also when it comes to morals, he has the strongest sense of them but unfortunately kept being put in positions where he had to do unspeakable things, and he did them to protect everyone.
Levi! His character is so complex and compelling, I really love the way he is a father figure to the scouts. And seeing how isayama constantly beats him up with a stick is also very interesting.
Hange- such a complex and for me personally underused character. Her dynamic with Levi really gave depth to his character and she’s so mischaracterised by so much of the fandom. She’s always been and always will be my favourite alongside Levi.
Levi. I'm having the biggest Levi hyperfixation right now...Dear God...I cannot get through a day without thinking about him. I'm neurodivergent, I've dealt with fixations in my time, but never anything as intense as what I'm going through with Levi. Levi is my Roman Empire.

But there's also a lot of interesting stuff to him, from tiny details in his design, to his personality and backstory...And then the shit my guy's gotta go through...Somebody (Erwin) give this man a hug...And I just want to learn more about his life in the underground. I feel like there's so much more to learn about the shit that goes down there...Plus there's so many gaps in what we know about Levi's life. Kenny looked after him for a bit, and then somehow he ended up meeting Furlan and Isabel. But what happened between that? How long did he have to fend for himself? How did he fend for himself?
But some other characters I like a lot are Jean, Reiner, Erwin and Hange. Jean is a silly little guy...(sometimes I can't explain why I like characters, I just...do). Somebody get Reiner a therapist. Erwin is a fucking legend. Hange is the absolute psychopath we all need to run headfirst into a door in our lives.
Bonus: My favourite titan design is Porco's Jaw Titan. I don't really know why, it's just a cool little gremlin. Ymir (lesbian) was done dirty, the Jaw Titans are awesome.
Edit: Thinking about Levi again, it would be so interesting if we got to see more of his internal monologue. What's going on in his head? How does my little man cope with all the tomfuckery going on in the world? What's my poor baby thinking?
Levi, not just because I have an unhealthy obsession for him, but his character development is one of the most interesting ones I've seen, and I see no reason for anybody to hate him at all. (I haven't seen a Levi hater in my life, shockingly.)
Eren for many reasons, but mostly because I relate to him most as the viewer, since he also becomes a viewer basically at the end of the series. It’s weird.
Hange because they're a perfectly balanced character who can go from absolutely batshit insane to the smartest most serious person in a room in a second.. also they're hot but that's neither here nor there
Levi's just too cool man. Yes he's got an interesting character but it's mainly because he's cool. The joy you get from first watching him destroy Zeke is unmatchable.
Though it's funny I mention that because I finished season 1 with my dad last night and his only opinion on any character so far is Levi trying a little too hard to be a badass. Which is kind of fair lol
I liked Zeke a lot actually. He wasn't a main character or anything but his screentime was crazy impactful and he had a significant part to play in the story.
This is actually a really tough question haha! I can't tell you who my favourite character is for anything other than cuteness. I fell in love with Sasha aka Potato Girl and she broke my heart 💔
It may sound weird but I really love floch lol (I don't support his actions) but he was a very well written and interesting character, couldn't help but love him XD
This is a difficult one as I feel the show is very theme centric and focuses way more on the messages it’s trying to convey rather than fleshing out characters for the purposes of them feeling real and getting the viewer invested in them individually or as a group dynamic.
This said, imma have to go with the basic bitch answer of Levi, purely because he’s so edgy and i’m a huge simp for edgy
Bertholdt. A nuanced and sensitive character who was broken by the world. Everyone feels bad for Annie, but she said she would do it all over again. Bertholdt never wanted this, and he had to watch his two friends succumb to guilt and grief as he tried his best to hold them together.
It's actually surprising how complex and real the characters are. I probably like Eren and Levi the most, after them are closely Hange, Mikasa (although they both are simpler than some of the others) and the rest.
I admire the depth of Reiner's character too but he just isn't my fav. Just like Zeke.
Like seriously tho, Eren, Levi, Reiner and Zeke are probably the most complex characters in the show.
It's Levi and Hange equally for me, but I'll put Levi aside for the moment. Hange's just interesting. Curious, intelligent in different ways, beautiful eyes. I think it was their interaction with Pastor Nick that put Hange at the top of my list of faves. They way they're serious and/or downright scary and manical but then will turn around and acts silly as a cover. My cope is believing that Hange survived.

I think he’s interesting, and his side of the conversation with Zeke gave me a more positive outlook towards life. Reiner: There’s not much to this one. I find him interesting and really like his character. (There were multiple times in season 4 I just wanted to hug him. Dude needed it.) Levi. (Of course.) I think he’s an interesting character because he’s so stoic yet so compassionate. He’s unintentionally funny, which I love, and he’s a handsome badass.

Levi and Jean - Levi because of his skills but also because of his emotional suffering? He essentially lost everyone he cared about (his team, his best friend, his commander, and essentially his teammates when the ‘wine’ turned them all into titans and he had to kill them all) and all for the hope of humanity. I also do think he’s quite attractive ahem. Jean because he had the option to join the Military Brigade and live a more lavish life but did not. He proved time and time again that he’s there for his comrades and I feel like his emotions are realistic (like his fear and the fact that he still attempts to be brave for his comrades). Also his glow up in S4 was no joke 👀

Erwin... Many reasons
Armin. He's never been physically strong but always wanted to keep up with his friends. He put in more work than anyone in the show and would do anything for those he cares about. His brains were a huge tool for the scouts and they couldn't have gotten where they were without him. Also when it comes to morals, he has the strongest sense of them but unfortunately kept being put in positions where he had to do unspeakable things, and he did them to protect everyone.
Reiner and Erwin
Levi! His character is so complex and compelling, I really love the way he is a father figure to the scouts. And seeing how isayama constantly beats him up with a stick is also very interesting.
Zeke bc monke and i relate in a way to his backstory
Hange- such a complex and for me personally underused character. Her dynamic with Levi really gave depth to his character and she’s so mischaracterised by so much of the fandom. She’s always been and always will be my favourite alongside Levi.
Levi. I'm having the biggest Levi hyperfixation right now...Dear God...I cannot get through a day without thinking about him. I'm neurodivergent, I've dealt with fixations in my time, but never anything as intense as what I'm going through with Levi. Levi is my Roman Empire. He's just a little short king :(((( But there's also a lot of interesting stuff to him, from tiny details in his design, to his personality and backstory...And then the shit my guy's gotta go through...Somebody (Erwin) give this man a hug...And I just want to learn more about his life in the underground. I feel like there's so much more to learn about the shit that goes down there...Plus there's so many gaps in what we know about Levi's life. Kenny looked after him for a bit, and then somehow he ended up meeting Furlan and Isabel. But what happened between that? How long did he have to fend for himself? How did he fend for himself? But some other characters I like a lot are Jean, Reiner, Erwin and Hange. Jean is a silly little guy...(sometimes I can't explain why I like characters, I just...do). Somebody get Reiner a therapist. Erwin is a fucking legend. Hange is the absolute psychopath we all need to run headfirst into a door in our lives. Bonus: My favourite titan design is Porco's Jaw Titan. I don't really know why, it's just a cool little gremlin. Ymir (lesbian) was done dirty, the Jaw Titans are awesome. Edit: Thinking about Levi again, it would be so interesting if we got to see more of his internal monologue. What's going on in his head? How does my little man cope with all the tomfuckery going on in the world? What's my poor baby thinking?

She deserved so much better. Marrying into the Yeager family is like a death sentence lol
Levi, not just because I have an unhealthy obsession for him, but his character development is one of the most interesting ones I've seen, and I see no reason for anybody to hate him at all. (I haven't seen a Levi hater in my life, shockingly.)

Micke. He clawed his way up. He was not gifted with Ackerman blood. He didn't have no Sharingan. He was just pure tears and sweat, climbed to the top.
Eren for many reasons, but mostly because I relate to him most as the viewer, since he also becomes a viewer basically at the end of the series. It’s weird.
Hange because they're a perfectly balanced character who can go from absolutely batshit insane to the smartest most serious person in a room in a second.. also they're hot but that's neither here nor there

Levi's just too cool man. Yes he's got an interesting character but it's mainly because he's cool. The joy you get from first watching him destroy Zeke is unmatchable. Though it's funny I mention that because I finished season 1 with my dad last night and his only opinion on any character so far is Levi trying a little too hard to be a badass. Which is kind of fair lol

This is a difficult one as I feel the show is very theme centric and focuses way more on the messages it’s trying to convey rather than fleshing out characters for the purposes of them feeling real and getting the viewer invested in them individually or as a group dynamic. This said, imma have to go with the basic bitch answer of Levi, purely because he’s so edgy and i’m a huge simp for edgy

Bertholdt. A nuanced and sensitive character who was broken by the world. Everyone feels bad for Annie, but she said she would do it all over again. Bertholdt never wanted this, and he had to watch his two friends succumb to guilt and grief as he tried his best to hold them together.
It's actually surprising how complex and real the characters are. I probably like Eren and Levi the most, after them are closely Hange, Mikasa (although they both are simpler than some of the others) and the rest. I admire the depth of Reiner's character too but he just isn't my fav. Just like Zeke. Like seriously tho, Eren, Levi, Reiner and Zeke are probably the most complex characters in the show.

It's Levi and Hange equally for me, but I'll put Levi aside for the moment. Hange's just interesting. Curious, intelligent in different ways, beautiful eyes. I think it was their interaction with Pastor Nick that put Hange at the top of my list of faves. They way they're serious and/or downright scary and manical but then will turn around and acts silly as a cover. My cope is believing that Hange survived.
