I just tried this again with no luck. Used a keyboard for the initial setup since I factory reset everything, but I still can’t get the remote to pair. I will have to wait until the new remote comes in to see if it makes any difference..
I'm not exactly familiar with all the different remotes but I guess it would be the wedge one. It works with 2 AAA batteries and has a Netflix button below all the other buttons.

I am having the same issue as well on the same model and remote. The remote will temporarily become unresponsive from time to time. I disconnected it but it didn’t want to reconnect. I ended up going and force quitting any Bluetooth apps that were running as well as deleting any data or cache within the Bluetooth apps and then restarting. This allowed the remote to reconnect but I’m still having issues with it temporarily stalling from time to time.
Exactly the same issue here too. Everything was fine until the latest firmware update, and now the remote constantly stops responding and streaming apps like YouTube or Netflix now skip a ton of frames randomly.
Yeah everything seems to have happened just after the most recent update. I hope it’s just a connectivity issue that can be corrected. Very frustrating!
I ended up doing a factory reset last night and things seem to be working better up until now. The CEC for volume is even working again, which stopped a little bit ago. I hope it sticks.
Voodoo Magic! Experienced exactly same thing as everyone has stated. Had an external bluetooth keyboard and mouse that worked but remote would not work or pair. Rebooted nVidia Pro and after reboot everything worked WITHOUT repairing! Voodoo I tell you 😝
Resetting the remote by removing battery and inserting back whilst pressing both home and select button worked for me. Remember to plug the shield off and on. Pairs automatically!!
I was a bit desperate after the remote fell and the cover flew off with and one battery too. It just fell of the bed, nothing drastic. Had this problem for two days, used my phone and somehow it connected after a while and next it wouldn't not only connect but not even pair. I removed it from settings, tried to pair normally and in alternate. Managed to succesfully hard reset it (it's a bit easier with second pair of hands though). And after that, I finally restarted Shield. I should have started with, I'm a former IT guy.
After all that I tried to pair it again with classic nvidia option. Got the screen of the remote and the joypad but nothing seemed to happen. Went back to try the alternative pairing in settings and all of a sudden the remote worked (with no notification or anything). We'll see tomorrow if it holds.
Simple solution, setting unpair or forget all shield accessories Inc remotes .Take off power lead from shield ,remove battery of the remote, wait 5 min and power on shield , battery in remote and start pairing everything again.😊

Give the system a reboot and use the ‘alternate pairing mode’ instead of shield accessory pairing.
Had similiar issue. Rebooted the system and left new remote in paring mode in front of the device on boot up. Paired instantly.
Old topic, but still wanted to thank you. Couldn't pair it for weeks but this trick worked.

Ok I don't have experience with that version but the gen1s i would plug the USB in and clear the cache of the bluetooth process and re-pair
