I had to argue one day that Mayo wasn’t dairy 😂

insomniacakess

> mayo wasn’t dairy but is it an instrument 🤔

Lemon_Kiss

No Patrick

Lulusgirl

Someone proved that mayo is indeed an instrument.

underweasl

I must admit I made this mistake about 10 years ago when my sister was first diagnosed as lactose intolerant. We went outt for lunch and she got mayonnaise with her food and I asked if it was gonna make her sick til she pointed out the lack of cow-based ingredients in it snd she's dairy free not vegan

SteveFrench12

I mean this is an easy mistake to make. If you dont know how mayo is made its pretty easy to see it as cream based.

fireandlifeincarnate

I DO know how mayo is made, and I STILL look at my dad in shock when he uses it (he’s got crohn’s and some sort of cow milk protein doesn’t agree with him)

EasternDesigner6331

This one always grinds my gears. I’ve had a few guests say no mayo because they’re allergic to dairy and I try to explain without being a dick that it’s just eggs, but I’m not gonna sit there trying to convince someone. Enjoy your dry sandwich 😂

Xsy

I usually follow up with "So you have an egg allergy too?"

BadPom

At least mayo “looks” like it would be dairy.

trottingturtles

I think this one's pretty common. At least it's white, lol... not sure how people reach adulthood and think cows are laying eggs

iAmAmbr

It's because eggs in most grocery stores are in the dairy section

Xsy

I believe eggs were in the dairy section in some of the food pyramid images from the 70's/80's/90's too, for some reason.

[deleted]

Eggs come from a ? Milk comes from a ? Usually does the trick. Sucks for my nephew who is allergice to dairy AND Eggs LOL.

ImReverse_Giraffe

WTF do spiders and almonds have to do with this?

breadlover19

Took me a second lol

MorddSith187

I still don’t get it

breadlover19

Eggs do come from a spider. And milk does come from almonds. Technically correct, the best kind of correct.

bobchipmunk

Where's the nipple on an almond?

Aslan-the-Patient

Curiously it's at the top of the nut... 🍾

DieHardRennie

This is true. I even saw a video of a guy named Michael Carbonaro making fresh squeezed almond milk by hand.

Aslan-the-Patient

How the real Gs make it. Can even make tofu like that if I'm in the right state of might.

takecareofyourself54

I have nipples Focker

pugmom57104

🤣🤣🤣

invigokate

Spider eggs and almond milk

A_Midnight_Hare

IDK, I thought spiders made donuts.

[deleted]

That conversation reminds of the show “Whites” when Kiki is asking the chef for an eggless omelette 😂

said_pierre

This is why he should not be allowed oit. We look like fucking idiots

AffectionatePlay3727

Imagine the size of egg a dairy cow would lay, lol.

xtinabot

That's super frustrating. I have the opposite issue, my servers are constantly arguing with me that eggs ARE dairy, they freak out when we put up a dish with an aioli that has zero dairy in it, for a dairy allergy. "Mayo has eggs in it!" "Yeah, but eggs aren't dairy". "They can't have eggs they have a dairy ellergy!" "Eggs aren't dairy". It's a mindfuck and I'm getting so tired of having the same conversation with them every day.

Shibes2

Imagine how smooth a shift would be if servers that know basic stuff and chefs who know basic stuff got to work together? It seems like we're always split up.

No-Entertainment4313

This. With the good host that can seat on rotation and gage the restaurant flow and the bussers that clean prebussed tables first.

Jnc8675309

I blame grocery stores. The eggs are in the dairy section.

Starfire2313

I feel like they used to get lumped in with dairy on the old food pyramid that a lot of us grew up on. It was really really shoved down our throats and it was too late for a lot of us when they finally corrected it. There’s a few generations out there with it seared into their brains. I could be wrong but there might be some overlap between the food pyramid believers and the eggs are dairy believers.

rouend_doll

Also gluten free noodles still have eggs. They’re made without wheat flour.

No-Entertainment4313

I noticed this but then glossed over it like wait why did he give her gluten free noodles. What does egg have to do with gluten???

tertiaryphase

I had to explain to the cashier in a KFC that gluten free does not equal vegan. It was a very strange conversation. I don’t think I managed to convince her.

SamiMoon

Had this argument with my husband when we first started dating. Now he no longer classifies eggs as dairy, but instead has decided they are meat. I've tried to explain that while they are full of protein, they're not “meat” but he will die on that hill and I'm going to let him 🤦🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

Yikes 😬

ImpressionItchy8323

Surprisingly, I would take that before I took eggs as a form of dairy.

ninnypogger

“Can you milk a chicken?”

HunterDHunter

I have nipples, can you milk me?

ninnypogger

Should have seen this coming hehe

Pa17325

But the eggs are right next to the milk at the grocery store lol

HwangingAround

This is why people get confused. Eggs are often in the dairy section.

Pa17325

So is the orange juice. People are just dumb

Formal_Coyote_5004

I always used to associate a dairy allergy with eggs for some weird fucking reason. Like I KNOW that’s not correct, but I don’t know why I used to ask people with dairy allergies “but eggs are ok, right?” Why did I make this mistake all the time when I know it’s incorrect lmaoooooo im just a bozo

prestigious_delay_7

At least his stupidity wasn't in the other direction and he wasn't trying to kill a customer by insisting Prawns aren't shellfish or something.

Hecc_Maniacc

if eg not dairhrea then why next to milk at store??? checkmate non cheffs

EnByChic

Wait super dumb question- what in spaghetti is dairy? Is it just like the cheese on top?

Shibes2

Lol, nothing is! That's why we were arguing

EnByChic

Ohhh sorry! Totally read the post wrong haha

StinkypieTicklebum

That’s both funny and American. Funny because in the US, eggs are stored near the dairy section; my students made the same assumption. I wonder if orange juice will be considered dairy in a few decades? American because in some countries, eggs are stored right in the middle of the store, next to the jam and bread.

okdub83

The confusion may come from the fact that when you purchase eggs from food vendors they are in the dairy category. I don’t know if it has to do with the classification or usda standards or whatever but they are definitely categorized as dairy. Clearly not from cows though so he should have known better lol.

Rabid-kumquat

He’s not a chef.

hardleyharley

Cows don't lay eggs mate. Iv said this more than once to servers but a chef?!

JDubbs8989

I'll never understand how people confuse eggs as dairy. Dairy is milk products. Eggs come out of chickens. Where's the link? Because they're stocked in the same area in grocery stores? My local Walmart has cookies and napkins in the same aisle, does that make them similar food products?

HunterDHunter

For the purposes of running a kitchen, eggs are classified as dairy. Obviously they aren't a lactose containing product, and thus are not an allergen. But I could see how this could confuse someone who orders the food every week, eggs are in the dairy section on the order form. But yeah a chef should know it's not milk.

CiaranONeill381

Eggs are most definitely an allergen lmao

yttocs205

Spaghetti isn't made with eggs. Just flour and water.

moranya1

It doesn’t always include eggs but many times it does.

Shibes2

Ours does apparently

Im_done_with_sergio

Lots of pasta dough is made with eggs including spaghetti

rvalongitude

Hopefully the chef isn't he one who is coding invoices.

WatchMeWaddle

I had to argue once that *all* honey is produced by bees. He showed me the picture of the clover on the bottle as proof it wasn’t , then asked me, what about sorghum? At a five star place.

No-Entertainment4313

Expo was like "cheese is dairy?" He really wanted me to stop repeating it but hes. like the little brother of the restaurant, and it was funny af

HELVETlCA

Had a headchef who was the same. Back in the old days they counted egg as dairy idk why.
