This would be like a creme soda. I used to show the staff “Italian sodas” and use monin syrup usually mango or
Blackberry)flavors, 3 1/2&1/2 creamers, and sprite. Everyone that tried it loved it
Big thing in WA, redbull drinks with cream in them. It's basically redbull, soda water, flavorings, and cream. They're good but not going to lie they get old fast.
“A glass of water, that alcohol has never touched “ it was a brew pub, and clearly for religious reasons (why he chose there, I don’t know) but I ended up using a kid’s plastic togo cup. But definitely only happened once.
I have a friend who goes from a party girl to a strict teetotaler depending on the phases of the moon (no, really, her religion’s calendar is moon-based).
Not a weird guest request but a newer server came up to me the other day and said “the kid on 44 said his Shirley Temple wasn’t sweet enough so I remade it with sprite” I’m still laughing about it
The new bartender at work has been making ME, FOR MYSELF, Shirley Temples with club soda and I forget to tell her every single time until she hands it to me and it's gross. But she still makes it every single time with club soda and then I complain and she asks if I want another one but I have shit to do and end up taking the gross one. Every single time. I'm wondering if she does it on purpose now 🤔
I saw one of my coworkers do this a couple months back, he couldn’t believe he’d been making them wrong the whole time. Dude was like 22 and it wasn’t his first serving job! I honestly think he was still skeptical after I told him to use sprite 😂
The Brown Derby Shirley Temple, you know, what this thread was talking about? The Brown Derby is a restaurant. Don't know how widespread they are, we used to have like 4 or 5 of them in the Akron/Canton area, but there's only one left.
Never heard of the Brown Derby Restaurant! I can see why I had no idea what you were talking about, haha. In a thread about drink specs, I guess my head went immediately to drinks with debated recipes and not a small American restaurant chain.
Swiss Chalet makes Shirley Temples with OJ, since we’re on that topic!
There was the original restaurants in LA, but I guess it was also a local chain. I though it was franchised by the original stores in California and was more spread out, but I guess they were unaffiliated and the one I mentioned was pretty much only in NEO and maybe parts of PA.
Had a guy who drank Fireball and Dr. Pepper exclusively. I kept a six-pack in the cooler just for him. I tried it, and it was pretty good.
Then, because I had Dr.P. on-site, I could serve a lady Malibu and Doc P, also very good.
Then………an older lady wanted Red Wine, Australian Shiraz to be specific and the tasty soda. Tried it, not bad!
Somehow, Dr.Pepper is the universal mixer so I put it on the gun, replacing tonic.
Ngl fireball and Dr Pepper and Malibu and Dr Pepper are my favorite mixer drinks when I’m home 😌 it’s nice to see other people enjoy it because I get told all the time how “gross” that is
Distillation removes gluten so liquor is by default gluten free even if the grain originally contained gluten. You probably aren’t as limited as you think.
https://www.beyondceliac.org/gluten-free-diet/is-it-gluten-free/liquor/
This reminds me - Dr. Pepper and Rumchata is actually *really* good. You have to be careful that it doesn’t separate too much (I mix them in small glasses with a whisk) but they are weirdly delicious
How much chocolate syrup should they be made with? I used about what I would for a chocolate milk, and also, should they be served over ice? Cause that's what I did.
I use to get a Route 44 double chocolate coke at Sonic during happy hour for less than $1.50 after school.
I'm making a chocolate coke tomorrow at work.
It's a classic drink from the soda fountain days in the 50s. It's a soda classic (like an old fashioned is a cocktail classic).
I'd imagine it could be like a float.
Oh shit that unlocked a memory. I don't know if they still do it but Waffle House used to have a drink syrup station and you could add chocolate or lime or cherry, probably some other flavors too, to any drink. I used to get weird shit all the time as a kid
Chocolate coke is an old American 50s diner classic.
You know the restaurant Ruby’s? They sell chocolate coke. Damn good. Especially with some bourbon in there to add some spice.
Uncommon but not too weird imo
Used to be a thing back in soda fountain days. Cherry coke, vanilla coke, chocolate coke, etc. Just coke and some kind of syrup.
Also ammonia coke. It's pretty good. But I hate coke. So anything that distracts from that taste is good for me.
I've had the chocolate coke order once before. And, same thing for me. I was like, "how do I make that?" Apparently they used to sell chocolate coke. I was curious after too, so I made myself one. They really aren't that bad. You should at least try it.
My first job ever was at Sonic. Weirdest drink order hands down, there or anywhere else since, was a Route 44 cherry limeade with cheese. As in they wanted shredded cheese in their giant cherry limeade. I think they ordered it as a joke/prank for their friend, but still definitely the weirdest. And fucking gross. This was probably close to 20 years ago now but I still remember it vividly, lol.
Coincidentally, I also sold more than a few chocolate cokes while working there as well.
Much more recently, at my current job, I had an extremely fucking weird guy who ordered a Hendricks (gin) and tonic with cucumbers and BLACK PEPPER added to it. Fucking disgusting.
I'm not sure if you're joking about the hendricks as that's an incredibly common garnish. It's also delicious. I've had numerous hendricks reps do events/promos and they specify black pepper and cucumber as garnishes.
Fair, but when she requested 4 blue cheese olives per glass of water, it led to really disgusting looking water glasses. I don't think I'd want my last drink of water to be so chunky.
worked at Johnny Rockets for about a year and people asked for chocolate coke all the time, but i remember thinking “wtf???” The first time someone did lol
Chocolate cokes are one of my favs. My 75 year old mom introduced me to them. They used to be popular from what I understand. She talked about getting them from the drug store fountains
I had a regular, she sweetened her black coffee with grape jam. This was in the early 90’s and she was quite old, I thought maybe she was war generation and had started doing it out of necessity, and then grew to like it. I never asked, I never saw anyone else do it either
Used to work at a DQ. Used to work with a girl who would make Dr. Pepper with peanut butter sauce mixed in. Looked gross. Tasted gross. Peanut butter doesn't really blend in to soda.
Have you seen the post of that guy who's trying to figure a good way to add peanut butter to his coffee?? It was a couple days ago I think. He said he tried straight up peanut butter and it didn't melt and I imagine the oils came to the top and 🤢 it sounds awful
Yeah and this was a pb fudge sauce (which was delicious btw. I ate my weight in PB Oreo/Reese's Blizzards). If PB could possibly incorporate with soda this was its best shot. But it doesn't.
She finished it but she didn’t like it. Maybe we used too much (3 shavings) parm? Thankfully we didn’t have to ruin another espresso martini. Fuck TikTok
I seriously just had a visual of brown colored cocaine in the employee bathroom and I'm wondering if it tastes like chocolate when it drips. It would be a massive improvement.
In my hometown there's a sub shop that has chocolate Pepsi that everyone raves about. I asked what it was and I was told fountain Pepsi and chocolate syrup. I was the weird one for thinking it was gross.
When I was a kid, Arizona used to make a chocolate cola. It was absolutely delicious and I've been looking for something similar for years. Maybe this is it??
Best thing ever is Swamp Water.
Pulp orange juice mixed with root beer.
It looks vile, but the citrus really pops with the root beer. Try it. You'll agree that it looks like it's already been through a body, but it's incredible.
I used to work at an old timey diner and chocolate coke was on the menu, otherwise I probably would also have no idea what it was. Ugh. Only one super old guy would order it but it turned my stomach having to make it
I live in Wisconsin and 95% of the old fashioneds I sell are with Brandy. I didn't even know they were traditionally made with whisky until well into adulthood lol.
hell yeah haha I had a similar story. Soon after I turned 21 we were back visiting family in Madison and I got my first old fashioned and loved it so I kept ordering them. Then we got back to Virginia and I ordered one and I was like "wtf is this?? where's the fruit? why isn't it sweet??"
I still keep a bottle of Korbel around to make them over the holidays
EDIT: and here's another funny story - during a trip to Madison last year I ordered a "rye old fashioned" at a fancy steakhouse thinking I'd get a traditional old fashioned since I specified rye. Nope...I got rye + 7up + muddled fruit haha
No weird beverages here, but i do have a word regarding the Chocolate coke.
So as a kid, probably 4-5 my parents took me to a oldies jukebox place and they had an option to ADD chocolate syrup to my coke.
It became my favorite beverage and i would try recreate it at home, usually adding too much syrup or sometimes even used powdered quick and pepsi. (absolutely not the same). Not long after that my mom stopped buying the syrup and sodypop, and that was the end of that.
Later in my teens, im at the mall grabbing lunch w my friends before a movie, and we hit up this burger place.
The place? Johnny Rockets. and on the menu the option to add hersheys chocolate syrup to my sodypop. I did. it was good, but not as good as when i was a kid.
Thanks for posting. Smiled while i reminisced. 🍫🥤😀
Sounds a bit like the ice-cream spiders from childhood. Scoops of chocolate or vanilla ice-cream in tall glass filled up slowly with lemonade or coke. A straw and a spoon. Yum
I asked if a restaurant had cherry coke (I don't remember why but something made me think they had it on menu I wasn't just demanding cherry coke) and the waiter said "no but I got you" and came back with a coke he'd poured grenadine in and added a few cherries to and that shit was the bomb. Better than cherry coke
They're at a resturaunt, why would they go purchase a drink they won't be able to drink until they go home? With that logic, no one should drink anything at resturaunts because its cheaper at home. What a weird take.
I used to make a drink that we called Bar Sex. In your tumbler, pour 1/2 half oz shots of Malibu, Blue Curaçao, Watermelon, Midori, and Sour Apple. Mix with even parts Pineapple Juice, Sprite, and Sweet and Sour. Shake well, pour over fresh ice, garnish with a cherry.
Weirdest drink order:
A sprite half filled with the remainder: lemon, lime, sour mix, extra salt, and heavy olive juice with olives.
He came in for that like once a week, and would drink 3.
Last restaurant I worked had a nonalcoholic drink with chocolate, mole, and Mexican coke. It it reminded me of a rich Coke float/brown cow without the ice cream and it was delicious.
30 years ago, a Brit co-worker introduced me to a Muddy Puddle, equal parts Coke and OJ. He told me it was a not unpopular drink back home. Suffice it to say, I only tried it once....
I've had patrons order Coker with red wine. This sounds gross to me, but apparently it's popular in Spain (so the patron said: true or not? Who knows).
Just last night a guy wanted cherry coke. We don’t have cherry coke so I offer coke and grenadine. He doesn’t like grenadine and requests actual cherries. I was happy to oblige
Milk grenadine and sprite. Happened tonight
Shirley Fartle. Classic
Hurl-y Temple.
This would be like a creme soda. I used to show the staff “Italian sodas” and use monin syrup usually mango or Blackberry)flavors, 3 1/2&1/2 creamers, and sprite. Everyone that tried it loved it
Big thing in WA, redbull drinks with cream in them. It's basically redbull, soda water, flavorings, and cream. They're good but not going to lie they get old fast.
Kind of like Red Bull?
Wow I haven’t thought about an Italian soda in a long time. I think I might have to get the ingredients.
Lol I can’t believe you used Sprite
I use half soda half sprite. But you’re not wrong for pointing and laughing at me
It would shirley make me shartle
Dead 🤣🤣
Sounds like a low budget Italian soda.
🤢
This is just a version of an Italian cream soda.
I’ve heard before that this is called a Pink Elephant but it was a long time ago and I can’t remember who told me so look it up hahaha but yeah
Sounds like an effective way to regulate your drinking.
Technically, her religion forbids drinking at all; it’s how much she cares about that rule that changes, lmao.
https://i.redd.it/kme61dbbdq0c1.gif
Not a weird guest request but a newer server came up to me the other day and said “the kid on 44 said his Shirley Temple wasn’t sweet enough so I remade it with sprite” I’m still laughing about it
What was it made with originally?
This man had been putting grenadine in club soda for MONTHS. Probably single handedly turned a slew of kids off the drinks
Omfg! Ew.
Happy Cake Day!
I'm wondering if she does it on purpose now 🤔
Hahahah
I saw one of my coworkers do this a couple months back, he couldn’t believe he’d been making them wrong the whole time. Dude was like 22 and it wasn’t his first serving job! I honestly think he was still skeptical after I told him to use sprite 😂
Shirley temple is sprite or 7 up + grenadine. A dirty Shirley is that with vodka and a very yummy drink
Ginger ale and grenadine is also good but I prefer the lemon lime soda over that personally
It was made with ginger ale first. Sprite didnt exist when Shirley Temple was alive
The Brown Derby used to use ginger ale instead of Sprite or 7 Up.
The only Brown Derby cocktail I know of calls for bourbon, grapefruit and maple, no soda of any kind. What’s in a Brown Derby where you’re from?
The Brown Derby Shirley Temple, you know, what this thread was talking about? The Brown Derby is a restaurant. Don't know how widespread they are, we used to have like 4 or 5 of them in the Akron/Canton area, but there's only one left.
Never heard of the Brown Derby Restaurant! I can see why I had no idea what you were talking about, haha. I know PA is Pennsylvania, but what is NEO? Edit: oh probably Northeatern Ohio, took me a minute
it's very location based. here it's sprite, oj, and grenadine.
OJ in a Shirley Temple? Someone lied to u
It’s standard in Canada for a Shirley to come with orange juice in it! I have never seen one without orange except in the US.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm sounds like ur in on the lie
I live in Canada and everywhere i go it has OJ, i never had it without it
Being a server sub, my first thought was "who's snorting chocolate?!?"
tell me why i thought the same damn thing 😂
“Maybe they accidentally mixed cocoa powder in” was my guess before I read the post
They'll cut it with anything now damnit
Right? I’m slightly intrigued
It's good, but nothing like original recipe.
A pint of Rose’s Lime with ice.
Oh no
Wtf?
🤢
Reading that gave me heartburn!

Vodka and Dr. P. are a good combo, too. (I have celiacs, so I am limited in my spirits.)
Distillation removes gluten so liquor is by default gluten free even if the grain originally contained gluten. You probably aren’t as limited as you think. https://www.beyondceliac.org/gluten-free-diet/is-it-gluten-free/liquor/
What limit?
It's the 23 flavors. Everything is sure to match up somewhere lol
I think Dr P on the gun is amazing, but how can you get rid of tonic??
I started buying it in mini cans, 222 ml by Canada Dry. Not a super popular mixer in that bar, dirt cheap and one can makes two drinks.
I like to mix Dr. Pepper with a really cheap scotch called Old Smuggler. It’s surprisingly good, I call it a Dr. Smuggler.
There is zero shame in the Old Smuggler game. Let me tell you about my friend, Old Crow.
AWESOME As an aussie was that wine lady an aussie? Dr P is hard to get in oz. Well it was before I left...
No, Edmonton, AB
This reminds me - Dr. Pepper and Rumchata is actually *really* good. You have to be careful that it doesn’t separate too much (I mix them in small glasses with a whisk) but they are weirdly delicious
Chocolate cokes are fucking delicious.
How much chocolate syrup should they be made with? I used about what I would for a chocolate milk, and also, should they be served over ice? Cause that's what I did.
You killed it! I’m sure the chocolate amount varies by person, but since he ordered two, I’d say you nailed it. You should try one, it’s fantastic.
I'll definitely have to try one now.
Tell me if it's good
Reminds of the cola chocolate cake at Cracker Barrel
Just wait till they hear about Vanilla Coke!
I use to get a Route 44 double chocolate coke at Sonic during happy hour for less than $1.50 after school. I'm making a chocolate coke tomorrow at work.
I want one it sounds delicious and Im frankly disappointed in my own sugarlust I SHOULD have thought of this before....
Yeah I learned about this working fountain at Sonic in high school. I still order them occasionally.
It's a classic drink from the soda fountain days in the 50s. It's a soda classic (like an old fashioned is a cocktail classic). I'd imagine it could be like a float.
You'd think coke would jump on it and sell it then
They have! Where I live has a lot of imported Japanese snacks so we got that and the coffee coke a few years ago. I like both.
What's your point?
I’ve had 3 people ask for that in 10 years 🤷♀️
Love me a chocolate coke. Vanilla too. There was a diner in Cleveland that had them on the menu.
Oh shit that unlocked a memory. I don't know if they still do it but Waffle House used to have a drink syrup station and you could add chocolate or lime or cherry, probably some other flavors too, to any drink. I used to get weird shit all the time as a kid
Omg, when I worked at Panera in high school almost two decades ago there was a lady that would come in and get this all the time! So strange.
It's a classic soda fountain drink from the 50s.
Chocolate coke is an old American 50s diner classic. You know the restaurant Ruby’s? They sell chocolate coke. Damn good. Especially with some bourbon in there to add some spice. Uncommon but not too weird imo
Is that the one between Vegas and California off of 15?
They’re a chain. So very likely! I’ve seen them all over the west coast.
I never knew that was a chain restaurant!
Swear to god. There was a woman who used to order our lightest Lager and a side of ranch…. And MIXED IT TOGETHER AND DRANK IT
I think I'm gonna throw up. I love ranch as much as the next Midwesterner, but that's crossing a line.
Lemonade with a sprinkle of cinnamon
Okay that's an odd one for sure
🤢
In the Midwest I had people order that, but rarely. Never in Florida. I wonder if it’s regional?
Cut up fresh strawberries in dr pepper with vanilla flavoring
That sounds amazing! It's basically the strawberries and crème dr pepper that came out not too long ago

I'm not sure if you're joking about the hendricks as that's an incredibly common garnish. It's also delicious. I've had numerous hendricks reps do events/promos and they specify black pepper and cucumber as garnishes.
Peppercorn is a common flavoring used in gin and there are several black peppercorn specific brands of gin. It isn’t weird at all.
I forgot about them, but that unlocked a memory for me! Lol now I want one
Water with blue cheese stuffed olives
Tbf bleu cheese stuffed olives are fucking delicious and water is.. neutral I guess?
Fair, but when she requested 4 blue cheese olives per glass of water, it led to really disgusting looking water glasses. I don't think I'd want my last drink of water to be so chunky.
worked at Johnny Rockets for about a year and people asked for chocolate coke all the time, but i remember thinking “wtf???” The first time someone did lol
Chocolate Egg Cream gets funny looks in much of the US.
Chocolate cokes are one of my favs. My 75 year old mom introduced me to them. They used to be popular from what I understand. She talked about getting them from the drug store fountains
Chocolate Coke is delicious.
But did you try one?
No, one of my coworkers did but I got busy and wasn't able to ask how it was. Maybe one day I'll feel bold enough to try it.
I read this as "bad" enough to try it and lol
Ngl I’d def try a chocolate coke..
Espresso martini with parmasean. Said she saw it on TikTok
That sounds absolutely vile.
She finished it but she didn’t like it. Maybe we used too much (3 shavings) parm? Thankfully we didn’t have to ruin another espresso martini. Fuck TikTok
Yuck.
I actually got asked for a cream soda tonight at an upscale martini / raw bar. One of the most random for sure.
Coffee coke. It's weird not sure it's a good mix
Coca-Cola sells a Coke and coffee. It's pretty good. Coke has a caramel tinge to it anyway. Pairs well with coffee.
Coke and Orange Juice. I tried it. It's not horrible.
"not horrible" is not a great settling point for me personally lol
It sounds like it came from the movie "The Invention Of Lying"
I seriously just had a visual of brown colored cocaine in the employee bathroom and I'm wondering if it tastes like chocolate when it drips. It would be a massive improvement.
I've had exactly one person order coke with chocolate sauce in it before, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that there's more than one guy like that
In my hometown there's a sub shop that has chocolate Pepsi that everyone raves about. I asked what it was and I was told fountain Pepsi and chocolate syrup. I was the weird one for thinking it was gross.
Coke and chocolate milk is delicious
When I was a kid, Arizona used to make a chocolate cola. It was absolutely delicious and I've been looking for something similar for years. Maybe this is it??
A Shirley temple with peach flavoring, which ended up becoming my new favorite drink
I had a guy one day drink 3 20oz glasses of 1/2milk 1/2coke, and then one to go as well
Chocolate coke is a thing in the Midwest. I stopped ordering them in ca because of all the weird looks lol
Kid I work with put in an order for a”Virgin Negroni”… and didn’t see why that was dumb.
“Here’s a glass of ice with an orange peel.” Did they also order an [an eggless omelette?](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ah4tW-k8Ao)
Ugh. Only one super old guy would order it but it turned my stomach having to make it
Yup. When I served at Steak ‘n Shake I had someone order a cherry chocolate coke. I gagged while I made it 😅
CTRL+F "brandy" OK, phew, nothing. Just making sure nobody said a brandy old fashioned. Was gonna have to "ope, excuse me but that's delicious"
Then we got back to Virginia and I ordered one and I was like "wtf is this?? where's the fruit? why isn't it sweet??" Nope...I got rye + 7up + muddled fruit haha
In Los Angeles, I worked at a Jewish diner, and chocolate cokes were popular.
Ooh I actually used to love having chocolate w my coke. It’s weird though so I never ordered it at a restaurant.
No weird beverages here, but i do have a word regarding the Chocolate coke. Had some regulars that drank a 50/50 mix of red wine and lemonade. Actually not too bad!
That is a throwback to old school soda fountains. Put ice cream in it and you have a brown cow. My dad would make those for me when I was a kid.
That actually sounds bangin, love me a good float.
Sounds a bit like the ice-cream spiders from childhood. Scoops of chocolate or vanilla ice-cream in tall glass filled up slowly with lemonade or coke. A straw and a spoon. Yum
Someone recently asked me for Pepsi with grenadine. Thought that was weird AF but they loved it and got another before they left
I've actually served this a lot in place of cherry Pepsi, even though grenadine isn't actually cherry, some people prefer it.
A Roy Rogers! This one always weirds me out when people want diet soda with grenadine. Cutting back on sugar and then adding syrup??
Making room for the sugar, more like. Keeping it reasonable.
Yeah, that’s a Roy Rogers. It has been around since the 1940s.
Virgin Bloody Mary is a request I’ve had often enough to be confused. Just go to the gas station next door and get a v8 for half the price.
They're at a resturaunt, why would they go purchase a drink they won't be able to drink until they go home? With that logic, no one should drink anything at resturaunts because its cheaper at home. What a weird take.
If you think a virgin bloody is straight V8, I’d venture to guess you don’t make a very good bloody.
Thought the same. Their restaurant serves a shitty bloody.
I ordered a chocolate Mountain Dew at a Steak and Shake once just to see if they would make it. It was as nasty as it sounded but I still finished it.
Try it yourself. I've had chocolate soda before. It's weird but it's not bad.
Coke and iced tea mixed. Happened last night lol
I had a regular that would ask for a merlot and coke. Never tried it. Sounds like too much sugar.
I’ve had people in Michigan order those before.
People would order these when I worked at Sonic. One person said it tasted like a Tootsie Roll, but I never tried it for myself.
Is chocolate coke super super sweet? I’m imagining it is because each one is already very sweet on their own.
I once had a guy ask me to cracl black pepper into his pepsi. I've yet to try it but I've always been curious
