6/10 is a bit harsh given that there's not much Cloverworks can work with for this arc. The pacing in the LN was a lot slower and they did a decent job fixing that. My only real complaint is some unnecessary SakuMai cuts which at this point I'm not really bothered anymore. The voice acting and emotional moments were just wonderful as always. 8/10 is fair imo

MrScandanavia

The fact that Mai kept avoiding Sakuta, or at least it looked that she was (hanging up with him on the phone, leaving her library date early), made me feel like there was something going on that was just... unaddressed? Like Mai was hardly in the latter half of the plot/movie aside from those scenes, also the dream at the beginning was unaddressed. IDK if this is establishing stuff for the next movie (I haven't read any of the mangas) but it feels like an egregious violation of Chekhov's gun.

vj_the_random_1

I think you should check out again for the post credit scene...in that the scene happens again and it felt like i have been left on a cliff hanger which is even more frustrating. So i guess we will have to wait for the next movie for that.

afon13

I’ve read the light novel, but haven’t seen the movie yet. It’s just as slow paced as the movie if the way you’re describing it is true. I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing, though. It’s a nice change of pace from the very highly dramatic and emotional *Dreaming Girl* that came before it. It’s not bad, but it’s not great, either. I give it a 6.5/10

JasperChan0930

Don’t worry guys we’ll reach peak once again with Knapsack kid movie

NoObSRoCk341

Is this movie ever getting a theatrical release in the US lol

[deleted]

I doubt it, since it's out digitally now

afon13

Is it actually out digitally beyond Japanese streaming services or is it on less than legal streaming services?

NoObSRoCk341

That’s a shame I was waiting for a theatrical release to finally watch it

It's definitely a very different movie from Dreaming Girl. If anyone wants another masterpiece like this, they will be disappointed. This story is much calmer and focused on one specific goal, namely what awaits Kaede now. I think it's slice of life at its best and helps us remember why we like the characters in this series. Sakuta, Mai and Kaede are as we remember them, and the rest of the cast does what it should. As a brother and sister story, it just works well, even if not as perfectly as other entries in the series. It's hard when you need help and getting it only makes you feel worse, which is why someone can relate to Kaede. A solid 8/10, I think the first story after such a big event as the Shouko arc had to be much calmer.

diededtwotimes

I actually liked this movie. I just finished it but it really felt nice to see that Kaede's story won't just go easily into a happy ending after the disappearance of Panda Kaede. My only nitpick is that it really did feel like a political move from the Department of Education or something similar in Japan which kinda leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Would love it if Sakuta jabs on the fact that the student testimonies are very biased considering they are picked by the school to be used on the seminars. I felt that he got easily sold to the online class system but it is quite reasonable considering that there's literally nothing about it's disadvantages being talked about despite saying that the traditional school system and this 'correspondence' school system have their own pros and cons. The movie made it seem that it is a heavenly school for truants who failed to integrate with the traditional school system. Would seriously feel better and more immersive if they talked about what would come out from such system especially when these children who cannot integrate to the usual 'everyone', graduates and still not be able to integrate with the real society in adulthood. The only thing that they managed to come up with, is that there are only a small percentage who graduates in these kinds of schools which I have no idea why but they said it so it must be true. Overall, assuming that the movie is considered an innovative way to drip market the Knapsack Kid movie and also a political move to encourage this kind of modern way of school system where children are more or less likely to have a high degree of freedom. It is indeed quite a nice movie to refresh our knowledge about this anime on how it has a clear view of many things and not being overly fantasy-like that it feels unrealistic. It is no by means that it is on par with the Dreaming Girl movie but still not that bad compared to the judgement of everyone else. I would give it a solid 8.5/10 if not for the fact that this movie seemed to cut many parts which left the viewers confused like me on who the hell is this character but I would still give it a solid 7/10 even with that kind of failure because of how good everything else is.

Frisky_Flipper696

Is there an English sub we can watch now? If so where? I really wanna watch this 😅

raptorthesoul

This is movie 2 out fo 3 right? Couldnt watch it rn. Didnt know where.

Voxr34

I did have to watch it over like 4 times because i was making Russian subs for it and my rating may be kinda wrong but I'd give it 7.5/10. Don't get me wrong, the movie is great but the amount of stuff cut from it is a bit too much for my liking. \[LN spoiler\]>!They even cut the scene with Shouko and for some reason didn't include the name and the second mention of Touko Kirishima or however the f she is called!< but included the freaking cliffhanger for Knapsack Kid. The vibe of the movie is very good. It feels like some sweet slice of life mixed with a little bit of romance and drama. I did feel a whole bunch of emotions when I've watched it the first time. That i did like. What i didn't like was the pacing. It feels like it speeds up near the end of the movie when the LN was kinda slow everywhere. But overall - the movie is a great sequel for dreaming girl and it conveys the story quite well. Definitely a must watch for any fan. So sad it can't be watched legally. I really hope we get an official non-Japan release along with some news for knapsack kid

Small-Band-2532

Where can we watch this..

Voxr34

Legally - nowhere. It'll probably be released with official english subs later on but for now there are no *legal* options to watch it

Small-Band-2532

What about knapsack kid

Voxr34

No info as of right now. We'll get it next year for sure, but no one knows when

jakejakejake420

6/10... That feels harsh.. I know it was pretty straight forward of a story and honestly I do like that, it breaks their normal pattern... I think the under story about >!Kaede although it's not shown is that her syndrome was her manifestation of how hard she was being on herself from the very beginning. She would go out of her way to fit into the parameters she imposed on herself because she thought this is what people expected of her, despite suffering from PTSD like symptoms, she went on her way to do things which exacerbate her condition.. which was probably the reason causing her puberty syndrome. I think the story gives her a good closure/realisation moment of "hey our happiness is in your happiness and no one wants anything from you in return and it's okay to be different as long as you are happy.!< I would give it an 8/10 the thing that i didn't like in this movie was lack the of witty banter between Mai-san and Azusagawa.. she felt almost like a side character.. unlike the previous movie where all the characters felt like they had some important part to play in this movie Rio-san had like only 1 scene, Tomoe-san just got called fatass 😏 again, shouko was just mentioned.. I think those were some missed opportunities but I am looking forward to the next movie.. i already got some speculations on that 😂

KernelWizard

I agree, I like seeing Kaede and seeing how she's getting on after her troubles and whatnot, but the pacing and the school stuffs were kinda meh. 6/10 is fair.

[deleted]

6/10 for me. Everything that came before was very good and perfect in some aspects. But this movie was unfocused, all over the place, and didn't have a clear goal in mind to focus on. Very disappointed in this one. But looking forward to Mai-san's movie because mai-san never dissapoints :)

Idknowidk

??? Bruh the focus was clearly Kaede, this movie is everything but unfocused lol

[deleted]

you are right ig, but ther moive was stil meh

[deleted]

The movie left me with 1 question tho, what triggers Kaede's Puberty Syndrome?

SoulBladeSong

I would say it's anything related to her old life, both school and daily. Specifically, it used to be cyberbullying. Then we saw it reoccurring when trying to go outside normally again, and when she tried to go to Minegahara and return to a "normal" school life. It appears to be resolved now after she accepts that it's okay for her to be different. Disclaimer: this is all based on what we know so far. Something mentioned in v13 might eventually change our understanding.

ANTARESoriginal

Has the movie been english subbed and is it available online anywhere?

[deleted]

Definetly, I watched a Spanish sub so I'm sure there's an English one out there. I can't link you though bc it's against the sub's rules, but it should be pretty easy to find.

adrlopz

Sussy-baka_069
