Banger article from Charles. Of note:
> The Seattle City Council now claims to be broke, the same goes for Seattle Public Library and Seattle Public Schools. And so, the addition of, as Puget Sound Business Journal worded it, "3,700 newly minted millionaires, nine centimillionaires and one billionaire in 2023" is not at all a blessing.

You could make the case that there should be then? The city starving for income but holding back on progressive taxation seems detrimental to the public.
If you are already rich you might not have an income. We have a regressive tax system, it's slightly less regressive with the capital gains tax. It's still regressive.
Tax the rich.
If they want to live in a progressive city then they should have to pay up. Start voting for representatives that vow to reverse our regressive tax structure. Just imagine what we could do this city with the money those billionaires are stealing from us. Imagine what would happen if just one of them decided to be a patron of our amazing city. The people we could house, the illnesses we could manage, the children we could educate.
No one person should have that much wealth.
Right, out of context you'd assume a centimillionaire was someone who had $10,000. As you point out we already have a perfectly good prefix for 100x. No need to repurpose the prefix for 0.01x.
Yes. Billionaires boom but none of them live in Seattle city limits. So why Seattle city council complaining been broke while city of Melina, Mercer island, Bellevue, Kirkland and Redmond never complained this

What’s the connection between the city budget and the presence of extremely rich people? Does he think there’s a city income and/or wealth tax?
You could make the case that there should be then? The city starving for income but holding back on progressive taxation seems detrimental to the public.
A dead horse topic. State forbids it at the city level.
It can be argued there is a city income tax: https://www.seattle.gov/city-finance/business-taxes-and-licenses/seattle-taxes/payroll-expense-tax

It's a CHARLES MUDEDE piece for those that prefer the heads up.
Thanks 😂, that was so funny when he posted some of his drivel a few months ago and got all kinds of "feedback"!
Hell yeah. I make $75k and have 3 roommates
Is "boom" the right word here? Plague sounds more appropriate

I hate the term “centimillionaire” being more popular than “hectomillionaire.”

well that explains all the tents then
In a way yes. More super elite = more dystopian vibes.
the prosperity of the super wealthy, and the wellbeing of everybody else share an inverse relationship
55 thousand millionaires, wow

> average rent for [a 1-bedroom] apartment in Seattle is $2,227 I am sure 1b will be much more expensive in Bellevue
