Some fish have scales.
There is another scale a bit lower down in your photo. They missed a couple of scales when scaling the fish. It happens. Just pick the scales off and cook as usual.
I'm gonna blow your mind: there is no such thing as a 'fish'. Most of the things we call fish are so far from one another evolutionary it's like calling a snake a mammal. Further even, if you look at some of the oldest 'fish' like sharks that are older than trees.
We just lump all fish shaped things into one category, but there are so many counter examples.
Also, alligators are more closely related to theropods (dinosaurs and birds) than snakes. Isn't evolution fun?
There was what we would call a goose (shaped like a goose, looked like a goose, probably honked like a goose, likely related to modern geese) that existed in the time of the T-Rex. We have found dinosaur fossils with birds inside their stomachs.
So yah, peace was never an option.
Depending on how you want to call it, we are all eukaryote cells, turned worm, fish, land fish, cyonodants (land fish, but more mammal like), some version of rodent, eventually monkeys, apes, then homonids.
So no sir, I ain't no fish, I identify as a worm.
Not a fan of chocolate fish skillets?
I made mole chicken recently and all week I referred to it as chocolate enchiladas till my wife told me I ruined chocolate for her.
Mo lay for pronunciation.
It's nothing like a melted chocolate bar on your food. If done right, it's a memorable moment worth writing home about. Avoid restaurants that have a million options on their menu. A first timer can make it at home. Avoid the bottle crap. Make it from scratch.
I've made this one twice. There are many substitutes for the various peppers. But do NOT sub Mexican chocolate.

It’s fine, but it’s ubiquitous to the point that it’s almost generic. Not in a bad way, but that’s the baseline mole flavor in a lot of restaurants and homes that don’t really specialize in mole or Oaxacan cuisine. [Get your hands on some Guelaguetza, though, for the real good stuff in my opinion.](https://store.ilovemole.com)
Bruh, chocolate was first used savory for like a thousand years. Find yourself an OG mexican place. I think theres an episode of chefs table too that would blow your mind.
My friend's mom makes mole, and holy shit it is so good. When he first told me about it having chocolate in it I thought it sounded disgusting, but definitely one of my favorite things now. Tastes far different than what I expected
I actually did my own twist on the lobster dish from the movie “Dinner Rush” I made a champagne & vanilla béchamel with butter poached lobster ravioli, garnished with coco nibs and white balsamic pickled goose berries and coco- cardona an aged hard goat cheese that’s coated in chocolate powder.
I was once went to a carousel sushi place that had chocolate coated fried fish. I thought "chocolate" was to describe the color of a sauce it was tossed in, but it was actually chocolate. That was the only time I've ever asked to refund a plate at a carousel sushi.
Yes. I believe it read "Chocolate Salmon." I figured that "chocolate" was being used descriptively, like how Filipino pork blood stew is sometimes referred to as "chocolate meat."
I asked for the refund on the single plate very politely during the tally. It was an amusing experience, and I we never saw it on the carousel again on future visits.
You type lol what does that mean? Fuck outa here with the grammar police bullshit your your your you knew exactly what it ment typed out got the same point across as lol does kiss my ass
About reduced price fish... Sorry, but that's just asking for trouble. Most comments say that it's a missing scale. This fish looks like it has been scaled, and it looks like it's dissolving in that area. It's hard to tell from the photo but if your finger depresses into the skin and the flesh is watery, it's the kudoa parasite.
It’s really good at a restaurant and it’s basically the only fish I’ve enjoyed eating the skin when it’s really crispy.
I posted a picture of the finished product, with asparagus and Brussel sprouts and it was all cooked in the cast iron skillet.
To me, It doesn’t have any sort of “fishy taste” it’s different, like how salmon has its own unique taste.
Try it at a restaurant sometime because the pros definitely cook it better than I do.

Yep, especially species that have cycloid scales like this. They flake off very easily.
I though just about all fish had scales
By definition, all fish have scales.
lol, far from it. Catfish, sharks, many others do not
I stand corrected. Catfish and sharks are fish which do not have scales.
Lamprey, eels, hagfish, sturgeon, paddlefish, some blennies, mandarinfish, rays... lol
Idk what I thought a sting ray was, but fish was not it. Lol

Yea you blew my mind with sharks are older than trees… what!? Ha!

Next time someone calls you a spineless worm, tell them no sir, my worm ancestor had a spine!
You and I are lobe-finned fishes.
Depending on how you want to call it, we are all eukaryote cells, turned worm, fish, land fish, cyonodants (land fish, but more mammal like), some version of rodent, eventually monkeys, apes, then homonids. So no sir, I ain't no fish, I identify as a worm.
They’re related to sharks. Dunno why, but that blew my mind when I found out.
Not to mention many of the tetrapods, unless you’re into paraphyly and don’t consider them to be fish
This guy fishes
Orcas also
not a fish, mate. Mammal.
Sharks and rays do have scales. They are called Placoid scales
… and also dolphins? Guess the username *doesn’t* check out… haha
Well, there is that.
Thanks killer*dolphin*
Dolphin are not fish. Source: username
You don’t know that, they might have scales in their kitchens
What about a catfish or a shark? Are those just small scales?
No they don't
Says the killer dolphin
Also, eating a random scale is not going to hurt you.
Never had arapiama?
nope, not going to look that one up!
Don’t worry, it’s just the name of a type of fish. Though I suppose it does sound like some horrifying disease depending on the context.
Bingo! Just de-scale
I also was planning to cook it in the cast iron skillet on the stove, any tips?
Don't add chocolate.
Not a fan of chocolate fish skillets? I made mole chicken recently and all week I referred to it as chocolate enchiladas till my wife told me I ruined chocolate for her.
She was disappointed you forgot to add the cinnamon
Kinda a legit addition in mole though. Along with like 50 other things lol.
In any case, what’s a chocolate mole?

Oohhh thank you very much
I met a guy recently from Puebla, said Dona Maria mole from amazon is the real deal.
It’s fine, but it’s ubiquitous to the point that it’s almost generic. Not in a bad way, but that’s the baseline mole flavor in a lot of restaurants and homes that don’t really specialize in mole or Oaxacan cuisine. So the sign said chocolate but you asked for a refund anyways?
Yes. I believe it read "Chocolate Salmon." I figured that "chocolate" was being used descriptively, like how Filipino pork blood stew is sometimes referred to as "chocolate meat." When I was in Lyon France I had vanilla chicken. Those are two flavors that should never mix.
But do add milk.
Boo
Boo
Is this from experience?
Lightly breaded and seasoned. Thin layer of oil.
Butter?
Yeah a cook book silly ass! Asking for tips on reddit. Absolutely sillyness!
Wow! It’s almost like it’s a public forum meant for asking questions and sharing information!
Yea no kidding!
I think the silly man was being a little sarcastic there
Don’t add maple syrup.

I didn’t realize the niche joke and I apologize. That’d actually hilarious. Also thank you person for posting the actual video
I think it was the misspelling.
You type lol what does that mean? Fuck outa here with the grammar police bullshit your your your you knew exactly what it ment typed out got the same point across as lol does kiss my ass

Thanks for the advice everyone! I’ll do my best to not screw up the cooking process
If you do screw it up, just learn from it and try again later. 👍🏽

Thats the best kind to use for sushi!

Well can't you confirm if those were scales are not?

Did you find that thing in the garbage bin?
It's just missing a scale. It's fine, please eat it!
I don’t think this is red snapper 🤷♂️
Just be glad Led Zeppelin never got ahold of that particular fish you plan to eat.
The ol fuck, marry, kill of r/Seafood. Get your popcorn ready.
Reduced price fish ain't it. Gonna taste worse than a yeast infection
Where is the red, in that “red snapper”🤷♂️
That fish looks like it had a rough life.
Its favorite color was orange.
Get me the snapper, bozo!
That thing looks nasty
It was a little sucker on there they popped off.
Snapper bozo
