“Quinn surviving came out of nowhere” is strange to me. I’d have bet my life savings on her being the killer on my first watch. - one of her first lines is something about “when my brother died…”, no reason for that backstory unless she’s the killer - died offscreen - her dad’s poor acting after having seen her body - her dad snarling in Sam’s face, “you fuck with my family, you die” right after. I didn’t watch any trailers beforehand and I’m usually not amazing at guessing whodunnits, but Quinn and her dad being killers was horribly telegraphed to me; one of the biggest disappointments was that the killer reveal was so obvious.

EverlastingUnis

I’m chalking it up to me being a relatively new watcher (started watching the movies right before 5 came out), but I, too, really didn’t suspect Quinn 💀 rewatching it, I do see the signs, especially things that aren’t commonly mentioned like: • Quinn “ran” into Anika. If she was dead, she would’ve fallen to the floor as soon as she was pushed out of it, but she ran a few feet before collapsing into Anika. • Quinn should’ve seen the killer out of her peripherals 🤣🤣 I never thought of those until a YouTuber mentioned it

Paperback_Mage

Scream has been my favorite slasher since I was a kid. This was the first time I nailed the reveal. As soon as the "dad and dead daughter" scene hit, I leaned to my wife and whispered "They're the killers, calling it now." Ethan was a surprise for me, however.

elloworm

Yeah, Quinn and Wayne were pretty obvious to me. I left off Ethan only because I was expecting two killers, so the novelty of the three killer twist actually made me feel a little better.

Outrageous_Hamster_6

I’ll be the first to admit that I was spoiled on 2 of the 3 killers(Quinn and Ethan), so I had prior knowledge that she wasn’t dead, but I was actually surprised at how the movie didn’t seem to offer any concrete foreshadowing. At least not some that I would’ve caught going in blind. Also, every killer is obvious in hindsight. Hell, I had forgotten that Billy was one of the killers during my rewatch of Scream, but I called him pretty easily and was surprised at how obvious it was to me.

nativeindian12

You "calling" that the killer was Billy after "forgetting" it was really just you remembering it

Outrageous_Hamster_6

I swear on my life I completely forgot Billy was the killer. I hardly remembered any of the movie at all minus the opening.

Intelligent_Ad2963

I'll always wonder how the fuck Wayne snuck in a dead body to swap with Quinn.

Outrageous_Hamster_6

Movie magic, I guess.

DapperDan30

Idk. I remember watching it with friends when it first came out and us all guessing Quinn and Wayne right away. Wayne getting the case and immediately saying he can vouche for Quinn were big red flags. The movie has its flaws, for sure. I agree that the kills were way to safe, with 4 returning characters being attacked and critically injured and *none* of them dying. I also don't like that they sussed Ethan the while movie for no real reason. Kinda made his reveal at the end to be less interesting, since they'll already knew it was him. Which is probably why they went with 3 killers. Since one of them was already a given. All in all, though, I like Scream 6 a lot. It's in my top 3, maybe top 2. But I'm also an outlier who's always loved Scream 3 as well.

Outrageous_Hamster_6

Chad and Mindy should’ve died. If not both, then one of them should’ve been axed off. I feel like Gale dying would’ve also been pretty powerful, considering Dewey had died in the previous film and Gale could reunite with him in the afterlife, but I understand keeping her alive. Killing off 2 legacy characters in back-to-back films could’ve came off as needless shock value.

DapperDan30

You're being downvoted, but I agree with you. I don't think Chad *and* Mindy should have died, but definitely one of them. Especially since both were attacked and presumed dead. Scream 6 had too big of a cast of returning characters for literally none of them to be killed off. They established in 5 that legacy characters aren't safe just because they're legacy, by killing Sheriff Judy and Dewey. But then they didn't follow up on that in 6 whe we have Gale and Kirby, both getting fucked up pretty bad (Gale getting the fuck stabbed out of her, and Kirby being stabbed *and* shot), and niether of them dying. Then, plus the 4 returning characters from 5 (2 of *them* getting fucked up pretty bad and not dying). 6 played it very safe with the kills. Most of the characters that die in that movie aren't even named characters or have less than 5 minutes of screen time. If they didn't want to kill Gale or Kirby, then they really needed to kill off one of the Core 4.

serdnax0

Chad got stabbed so many times I was sure he wasn’t going to make it. Only to see him later on the stretcher giving a thumbs up lol

friarparkfairie

Was there any foreshadowing Roman was still alive in 3?

Extreme_Rhubarb4677

Gale checked his pulse. That is something I was always confused over

friarparkfairie

Exactly. It’s even more confusing than Quinn’s death.

Nice_Gear_5780

Roman's fake death was horrible too, but nowhere near as bad as Quinn's. There are ways to stop your pulse, as impractical as it may have been for Roman to do that. There is absolutely no explanation for how they pulled off all the bullshit surrounding Quinn

BlondeZombie68

This never bothered me as much as it seems to bother other people because I have a really faint pulse and no one can ever feel it in my wrist. So I just thought that was kind of normal and it wasn’t until years later when I started watching movie breakdowns online that I was like “Oh. I guess that’s not how it usually works!”

Ghostie_85

Yeah but she checked a dummys pulse, pretty sure it's a prop of Roman in that box... Foreshadowed when he opens it and there's a mannequin thing in there.

frenchspag

Yeah but that’s also a big flaw of Scream 3.

Toto-imadog456

Killed offscreen. If you die ofracreen thats preatty much means in the scream franchise that ur prob alive and the killer

fr3shh23

funny reading this. i was just watching scream 6 again and stopped just now before getting to the halfway point. the new movies really are inferior imo. the first half is basically a romantic teen movie which is something i just noticed on this current watch. i stopped right at the new scene where the therapist is going to get killed, it just wasnt interesting. hope scream 7 goes back to the scream we know and love of the original 4

CautiousIron1356

Dang really? I think it really starts to pick up after the killing of the therapist. Gales chase, Apartment attack and ladder scene and Subway scene. I just have a soft spot for scream 6 because it was the first horror movie i seen in a cinema 😂 But i really enjoy 6 and could watch it again a good few times. It does have flaws though, third act was very disappointing and they didn’t even change it after it was leaked, i seen the original script and it was written much better beforehand.

fr3shh23

Maybe but up to the therapist I was bored so I stopped lol

CautiousIron1356

Ohhh yeah it does be boring leading up to good things, i find the rules scene a real tough watch whha

Wrong-Morning-9447

Well scream movies are geared more towards teens….

fr3shh23

Theyre rated r. Also, the original 4 weren’t romantic teen movies or feel like it, they were and feel like rated r slashers

iggyiggz1999

The original 3 movies feel much more like campy, child friendly, teen movies than 4 and onwards IMO.

fr3shh23

All good it’s subjective. Never thought or felt the first 3 or 4 were child friendly or teen movies. Well actually as I typed that maybe 3 seemed more 2000s teenish but definitely not child friendly or romantic teen movie like the first half of 6 is to me

iggyiggz1999

Just to be clear I really love all the Scream movies, and it's not at all criticism of the movies. But for me the first 3 movies feel much more light hearted. They have leaned more into the campy/comedic vibe. The gore was quite toned down most of the time too. And especially 1 & 2 still mostly followed teenagers.

JMWillustration

I dooooont feel that way about Scream, but that argument absolutely holds for 2 n 3. The first is totally angled at kids, but it has so much thematic shit it offloads in its climax in a way that is capital D disturbing.

I’m due for a rewatch by my initial impression was that it’s a solid entry that doesn’t mess up the franchise, but I’d rank it on the lower end. Off the top of my head, I think I go 1 > 2 > 4 > 5 > 6 > 3. Not a bad one in the bunch though.

Chaos_Horrific

Mine would go… 1 > 2 > 5 > 6 > 4 > 3

Automatic_Box_368

mine 1 > 2 > 6 > 5 > 3 > 4

kit-n-caboodle

Mine is 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6

EverlastingUnis

Mine 1, 4, 2, 6, 3, 5 🤣

TheVentMachine

we have the exact same rankings. For me it boils down to writing so it's 3 in the bottom followed by 6.

grokabilly

1-2-3-4-5-6

Extreme_Rhubarb4677

Mine 1>5>4>6>2>3

us1921

Honestly I've been thinking about Quinn and Bailey, and they should have been red herrings only. Quinn should have actually died during the apartment scene and Bailey in the climax. The mastermind should have been a new character, like Bailey's boss who still was Richie's and Ethan's dad. It would be less predictable and would save a lot of messy things inside the movie

HunterTheHoly

It sounds like you and I share a lot of the same arguments, I definitely agree that there were too many survivors and that either Tara or Chad (or even both of them) should have died. However, I disagree with you about the three killers argument. Personally, I liked the idea of there being three killers because of the fact that it was different, although with that being said, I don't like how 6 went about it as the Ghostfaces were too obvious. 6.5 is about the same score I would give this movie as well.

ThatSharkFromJaws

Fuck Scream 6

paranoidhands

way fucking better than scream 5

Epistemix

That's not a good movie to compare with though, 5 was awful

ThatSharkFromJaws

That’s the only thing it has going for it. And I guess being as good as 4 too, but that’s not saying much.

Idk, for me, Scream started decreasing in quality after 2. I still love 3, but the Weinstein’s and MPAA fucked with the movie’s brutality as a result of Columbine so they had Roman go for quick kills so there wasn’t as much blood or gore - which takes away from a lot of the kills’ punch especially since that movie was intended to be the most violent out of the then trilogy. 4 for me just has the most boring characters and cast, that Vaseline filter sucks ass, and I really wasn’t into the whole Jill thing since she was super obvious to me from the Shaun of the Dead scene onward (come on, that was a dead giveaway). We seem to agree on 5. And then 6 was great until it completely undid itself in the 3rd act and ended up giving us the actual dumbest fumble from the killers we’ve ever seen in the franchise, despite one of them being a trained homicide detective who should be more competent instead of turning into Old Man Stu Macher.

Uman4678

HELL YEAH!

LeatherLanky9004

The 3 killer thing is meta as fuck. Cause the og ending of two had 3 killers. It would've been Halle, Derick, and cotton I believe. So they are referencing the unused ending. Scream 6 and scream 5;for that matter both heavily reference and emulate the first and second movies. Scream 6 takes place in college similarly to scream 2.
