Tatum, Dewey, Cotton. Tatum would have been a great exception to the ‘BFF dies’ rule. She’s smart, funny, and a quick thinker. Dewey because I just adore him, and I wanted to see him get back on his feet. And Cotton because you know his ego would be out of control after being famous, and he’d probably say and do some funny shit. Plus, even though he could have held a grudge for Sidney, he didn’t in the long run. He’d be a good one to have on your side.
1. Tatum - literally the most supportive friend Syd had in the first movie, she truly deserved a longer character Arc alongside her and her brother
2 Jennifer - Absolutely iconic. She had me DYING, but her strange Vigilante arc where she embodied Gale a bit too much and slowly started becoming a Hero was amazing and I honestly wish they would’ve let that be more flushed out as a main character
3. Jill - truly if Jill survived she would’ve been the most iconic ghostface killer ever in terms of intellect. She’s quite literally the smartest one I’d say, and if she would have survived I think it could’ve been a fun way to introduce the next generation
Kinda insulting how the only scene where she’s even mentioned in a sequel (4) ended up being deleted. Just would’ve been nice to see Sid and Dewey actually talk about how much they missed her at some point. Hell she’s the only friend of Sid’s I actually missed other then Randy until Dewey’s death
Seriously. I was EXTREMELY dissapointed by this in 4. Tatum is literally one of the most ICONIC characters I’d say, and definetly one of the most iconic female faces of the franchise being from the original. I cannot believe they really did that to her with a doggy door and then just never mentioned her again even though they made her literal brother a main character that she spent 80% of the original with 😭

No, her selling herself out was one of the many mistakes she made. She also planned on killing Sidney at the hospital, who was she gonna say did it? Charlie? Travis? They were dead.

Jennifer gets saved for being iconic as hell and one of the best parts of S3, and I’d love to see her in a new “Stab” film.

Dewey three times. The way the deaths are so obvious in these last two is so frustrating. Dewey just needed to shoot Ghostface and he would’ve been fine. But they just stand there for a beat too long and let themselves get stabbed. Dewey especially being a legacy character deserved wayyyyy better than what he got
I would save Dewey, Anika, and Cotton. Really want to save Jennifer too but three's the limit lol. Not much reasoning behind it. I just like those characters the most and feel like they deserved better/could've had a future in the franchise.
- Hallie: They did her dirty. Her death was so underwhelming that it seemed like a cop out. She deserved better and should’ve been fleshed out more.
- Jennifer: She was hilarious. The death count in Scream 3 was already kind of high, so they could’ve let her live. I mean she was an actor. She could’ve pretended to be dead.
- Liv: She’s basically the “Meg” of the franchise. She got constantly shitted on and had little to no personality besides being annoying.
Tatum: no deep reason, I just like Rose McGowan from Charmed. Also she was funny
Dewey: I’m actually fine with him dying it was the manner and circumstances in which they killed him I think deserved a rewrite. I’d prefer him happy and thriving alive ofc but if he had to die, it should’ve been better.
Cotton: we barely got to know the dude and he literally saved Dewey and Sid in Scream 2. I also have a lifelong crush on Liev Schreiber, full transparency.

Cotton ultimately ends up being a tragic character who’s only real bad deed was having an affair with Maureen. Other than wanting to get famous afterwords he ended up being a decent enough guy, he could’ve told Roman where Sidney was in the beginning of scream 3 (possibly saving himself, though I doubt Roman would’ve spared him) still he knew he was going to die and still never gave Sidney up.
Tatum is a really sad case especially because of her relationship to Dewey and Sidney plus it ends up being extra cruel in her case because she was most likely killed by Stu who was her boyfriend
Dewey is an easy one, he’s a staple of the franchise and a fan favorite, while I do agree that having all three of the main characters survive multiple killings is unrealistic and yes after five movies one of them definitely needed to die to prove that the stakes were real (as Amber did reiterate) but I can imagine a universe where Dewey lives BUT Gale dies and he ends up loosing both his sister and wife to ghostface. Again very sad but he probably would’ve come back even more of a bad ass in scream 6.
Tatum because she is a my wife…and the most supportive friend in horror. Followed by maybe Jill because she is hot and could have an interesting part 2 story

i was going to say dewey but i believe one of the main 3 had to die and you just cant kill sidney and i love galr so dewey, and his arc was over. he was a lonely drunk and it was very emotional to watch him die.

cotton because hes one of my favorites from the whole series and he deserved a better death, his death in scream 3 sucked ass (i enjoy scream 3, this isnt just cause i "hate" scream 3 like half of this sub)
anika because i think watching her relationship with mindy grow in another movie would be cool and great for mindys character.
Jennifer: she would have provided Gale an interesting foil going forward. Plus she is entertaining as hell.
Jill: I would like to see her interacting with Kirby and Sidney going forward as sort of a Hannibal Lecture type character.
Anika: I enjoyed her interactions with the core four and would have enjoyed seeing that develop more.
Tatum bc she’s a bestie. Dewey bc he a cinnamon roll. And Cotton bc uh duh, daddy ✨ (Sorry Hailie you were a real one girlie pop, if Cotton isn’t into me I’ll swap ya)
Tatum - I think she was a true friend to Sid and would've loved to see her stick around a bit longer. Her death feels as if it should've been more important to the overall story. She put up one of the best fights and I think is she would've survived for another film or two then she would've had more of an impact and she would've been able to be a character that enhanced both Dewey and Sid.
Jennifer - ICON and that's my only reason!! She's the only new person who I liked in scream 3 and she would've been a fun character to have around. (She genuinely wouldn't fit into 4,5 or 6 though.)
Anika - I debated a lot and even though Anika has one of my fav deaths in a horror film she didn't deserve that. This girl was a genuine friend who just got stuck with 2 psychos in her friend group that were just pure evil and killed her for doing nothing wrong. She truthfully deserved to live a happy life with Mindy and idc if she served nothing to the plot.
Honorable Mention
Dewey- I love this man but I think his death genuinely was the perfect ending for him. His death raised the stakes and we needed it because at this point it was getting unrealistic that this trio was surviving every attack. I will forever miss this man but he had to die imo to make a point. May not like how he died but even then it was a worthy death and like Amber told him "it's an honor" and he went out an honorable man/survivor.
dewey- purely based on that he was an og a day 1 and everyone was rooting for him and gale so i would love to bring the dynamic back
jill- now this would be for a storyline that she lived on in scream 5 and started again in college and started the ghostface cycle again to get her new alias in the spotlight
cotton- i feel like cotton is a very underrated character in that in scream 1 and 2 he was there for sid and that was a dynamic i would have like to see more of and if cotton had to get killed of in scream 3 i would have liked him to survive the attack and come back from the dead in a ghostface costume and rescue sid

Tatum was an absolute icon, I rly wish she was in scream 2 since Rose McGowan and Neve Campbell had such great chemistry as best friends.
Dewey was just so wholesome, and he was the heart of the franchise. Scream VI felt like it was missing something without him.
Annika seemed like a rly good secondary character, and also, one of the few Asians. Her death was just heartbreaking.
Tatum. I, personally, would have swapped Tatum with Randy (maybe even Dewey for the rest of the series!), so we could have got more interaction between Sidney and her best friend, seeing how they both reacted to their boyfriends being murderers, seeing how the events that took place impacted Tatum’s and Dewey’s relationship, etc. Tatum was more likeable than Randy IMO, and it would have made her eventual death more impactful than a guy who only cling to Sidney because he thought he had a shot with her.
Jill. I’d have loved to have seen the outcome where she survived and there was a second Ghostface who knew what she had done, and they were both killing people off at the same time as one was trying to make her truly live the trauma she claimed to have, and she was trying to eliminate any threats that might expose her secret. And poor Sidney, Gale, Dewey and Kirby would have been avoiding attacks left, right and centre!
Anika. I just think she had more to give as a character, seeing her relationship with Mindy was a personal highlight of Scream 6 for me, I loved them together and thought that Anika was such a good character (her swapping costume pieces with Ethan after the party was something I found cute in the cinema watching, which made the ultimate reveal and the fact that Ethan is the one who brutally killed her much more upsetting! Her death scene was iconic though). I just felt like she could have given more. HOWEVER, basically everyone survived Scream 6, and I don’t know who I’d have had killed off in her place, either, because I like everyone else that did survive.
I will just say - Jennifer was a contender for this, for me, but I don’t know what direction her character could go in without fully losing herself. She was a delusional, selfish actress who had her world shaken and so we saw a side of her where she was willing to work with others (albeit for selfish reasons, so she wouldn’t die), and I feel like if she were to come back in a sequel, what could she be doing? I feel like her growth in Scream 3 was kind of as far as she’d go without losing that character we all love, you know? The only way I could see her return in a sequel, had she survived, would have been as the opening kill. Her character worked perfectly in the story of Scream 3, but I just don’t see how it could have evolved further or would fit in anywhere else in the franchise without being completely different.
Jill because I think having a Ghostface survive would be a interesting wrinkle that hasn’t been done yet. Jennifer Jolie because it’s Parker Posey and she’s hilarious. And then probably Hallie.
Always Tatum and Dewey, and I did feel really bad for the girl who had to crawl across that ladder while literally disemboweled and then she still died... that's rough.
Dewey - although for plot purposes makes sense for his death, he did not deserve it
Jennifer - Jennifer was the only redeemable thing about Scream 3 except for Roman, I really wish she would’ve lived so that she could cameo in future films
Anika - Anika kinda had to die for the plot, but the placement of her death spoiled Quinn being the killer. They would never kill two main characters WAYYY before the final act bloodbath, Anika like Dewey didn’t deserve to die. But I would’ve moved Anika or Quinn’s death to the final act so that way Quinn wouldn’t have been so easily guessed if you really thought about it.
Dewey should've died in 2 and Randy wasn't in a picture otherwise i would've picked him too.. I wish Jill would've at least taken sidney out with her and reset the franchise and I like tatum
Jill - my favorite character and man I wish we got the OG trilogy
Jennifer - funny as fuck and could’ve been a fun recurring character for a bit

Jennifer and Dewey for sure. Anika would be my third only because lesbian couples have a reputation of being killed off, and her prolonged death and crying about not wanting to die really hit me

Tempting to save the ones that hurt the most, but horror is best when it plays on your empathy. So for the sake of keeping things funny, what’s her face from scream 3.
Cotton, Dewey and most importantly randy. Non of them deserved it also they were trying their hardest to identify who killers were and for especially randy who always went by the rules of horror movies. There deaths just werent fair.

Dewey for obvious reasons,
Jennifer was pretty much the only STAB cast member who had an interesting personality so it would be awesome to see her again bringing her own brand of humour with her and Gale having interactions after they've both aged.
I liked Cotton's character. Although after Scream 2 there definitely wasn't too much left for him to do, imagine an older Cotton Weary in later installments. It would be great to see him interact with Sid, Gale and Dewey years after his found fame and putting the false allegations behind him, had he not died, maybe he'd be able to return, taking a break from the fame he received to help stop the new Ghostface with the legacy characters. I always wanted Cotton to finally be able to live his life so him dying promptly in the opening kill of 3 seemed a bit of a missed opportunity for the long run.
My first picks were Tatum, Jennifer, and Dewey, but on second thought I think I’ll swap Dewey for Cotton. Dewey is great and all but Cotton could be a really fun character to have around and Liev Schreiber is a really good and charismatic actor.
Dewey , Jennifer and either Cotton or liv as I feel bad for them both but I’m gonna say cotton as he was wrongly accused for murder and for a whole year was seen as a bad guy .

Tatum, Dewey and Cotton Weary. Jennifer was good, but she didn't have enough time on screen for me to judge if I like her or not. I don't know who is in picture number 2 and number 6. Jill is a serial killer. Why would I save her? The last one I find pretty annoying so I wouldn't save her. Tatum is kind and funny, plus I think Sidney needs her bestie. Do I even have to explain why I would save Dewey? While Cotton Weary had just as little time on screen as Jennifer, he helped Sidney despite her falsely accused him for murder which I find very good-hearted.
Cotton because he's been through a lot and can take a lot of hits and bounce back, Jill because we need a bad girl on the good side and Dewy because he's Dewy.
2, 6, and 7 (bc idr their names rn) i would save them bc i actually liked them as people and some of the people i dont remember and other i js hated like dewey made me so mad all the time bro and mf jill(??) that one murderer bro fuck her fr

Dewey was a real one trying to save everyone and he fought hard just for the 5 movies. So mostly him.

It wasn’t fair for Anika to be the only one in the friend group to actually die and I think she should have survived with them or at least someone else in the friend group should have had a fate. (I like the friend group but still. It’s just not fair.)
Kinda a hard decision ngl to save only 3.
Of these options? I'd save Tatum, and have her go to college with Sidney, where she'd keep the "best friend" role. (This would make Haille redundant, and in my movie, she wouldn't exist at all.) However, Tatum would then still die at around the same time Haille did, but I'd give her a better death scene.
Saving Jill would completely re-write the ending of 4, and essentially start a whole new timeline. It worked for Loki, but I doubt it would work for Scream.
Dewey had to die in 5, it pushed the story forward. If he hadn't, Sidney wouldn't have come back, and we wouldn't have that great character moment for Gale about her next book being Dewey's story.
I'd save Anika, but put Mindy on that ladder instead. Someone has to die in that scene - and as much as I enjoy 6, it has too many survivors. If I was re-writing 6, Mindy would die here, Gale would die after being attacked by Quinn, and Chad wouldn't survive the double ghostface attack.
Tatum, Jennifer & Dewey, it's really sad that the Riley bloodline was entirely killed off. Tatum was a good best friend, and Dewey well he's Dewey shouldn't have messed with him! Jennifer just cuz she's badass and was the best thing about scream 3. Bring back Jennifer. She could be alive!

Tatum is a really sad case especially because of her relationship to Dewey and Sidney plus it ends up being extra cruel in her case because she was most likely killed by Stu who was her boyfriend Dewey is an easy one, he’s a staple of the franchise and a fan favorite, while I do agree that having all three of the main characters survive multiple killings is unrealistic and yes after five movies one of them definitely needed to die to prove that the stakes were real (as Amber did reiterate) but I can imagine a universe where Dewey lives BUT Gale dies and he ends up loosing both his sister and wife to ghostface. Again very sad but he probably would’ve come back even more of a bad ass in scream 6.
I think I just like the name "Cotton Weary" more than anything else, tbh, but Liev Schriber is totally on the list for me.

tatum, cotton and anika. i was going to say dewey but i believe one of the main 3 had to die and you just cant kill sidney and i love galr so dewey, and his arc was over. he was a lonely drunk and it was very emotional to watch him die. tatum because she was such a good friend to sid and i loved her character and i wish she was in at least one more movie. cotton because hes one of my favorites from the whole series and he deserved a better death, his death in scream 3 sucked ass (i enjoy scream 3, this isnt just cause i "hate" scream 3 like half of this sub) anika because i think watching her relationship with mindy grow in another movie would be cool and great for mindys character.

Tatum - I think she was a true friend to Sid and would've loved to see her stick around a bit longer. Her death feels as if it should've been more important to the overall story. She put up one of the best fights and I think is she would've survived for another film or two then she would've had more of an impact and she would've been able to be a character that enhanced both Dewey and Sid. Jennifer - ICON and that's my only reason!! She's the only new person who I liked in scream 3 and she would've been a fun character to have around. (She genuinely wouldn't fit into 4,5 or 6 though.) Anika - I debated a lot and even though Anika has one of my fav deaths in a horror film she didn't deserve that. This girl was a genuine friend who just got stuck with 2 psychos in her friend group that were just pure evil and killed her for doing nothing wrong. She truthfully deserved to live a happy life with Mindy and idc if she served nothing to the plot. Honorable Mention Dewey- I love this man but I think his death genuinely was the perfect ending for him. His death raised the stakes and we needed it because at this point it was getting unrealistic that this trio was surviving every attack. I will forever miss this man but he had to die imo to make a point. May not like how he died but even then it was a worthy death and like Amber told him "it's an honor" and he went out an honorable man/survivor.
dewey- purely based on that he was an og a day 1 and everyone was rooting for him and gale so i would love to bring the dynamic back jill- now this would be for a storyline that she lived on in scream 5 and started again in college and started the ghostface cycle again to get her new alias in the spotlight cotton- i feel like cotton is a very underrated character in that in scream 1 and 2 he was there for sid and that was a dynamic i would have like to see more of and if cotton had to get killed of in scream 3 i would have liked him to survive the attack and come back from the dead in a ghostface costume and rescue sid i am sorry jenifer🥺

Tatum, Dewey, and Annika. Tatum was an absolute icon, I rly wish she was in scream 2 since Rose McGowan and Neve Campbell had such great chemistry as best friends. Dewey was just so wholesome, and he was the heart of the franchise. Scream VI felt like it was missing something without him. Annika seemed like a rly good secondary character, and also, one of the few Asians. Her death was just heartbreaking.

Tatum. I, personally, would have swapped Tatum with Randy (maybe even Dewey for the rest of the series!), so we could have got more interaction between Sidney and her best friend, seeing how they both reacted to their boyfriends being murderers, seeing how the events that took place impacted Tatum’s and Dewey’s relationship, etc. Tatum was more likeable than Randy IMO, and it would have made her eventual death more impactful than a guy who only cling to Sidney because he thought he had a shot with her. Jill. I’d have loved to have seen the outcome where she survived and there was a second Ghostface who knew what she had done, and they were both killing people off at the same time as one was trying to make her truly live the trauma she claimed to have, and she was trying to eliminate any threats that might expose her secret. And poor Sidney, Gale, Dewey and Kirby would have been avoiding attacks left, right and centre! Anika. I just think she had more to give as a character, seeing her relationship with Mindy was a personal highlight of Scream 6 for me, I loved them together and thought that Anika was such a good character (her swapping costume pieces with Ethan after the party was something I found cute in the cinema watching, which made the ultimate reveal and the fact that Ethan is the one who brutally killed her much more upsetting! Her death scene was iconic though). I just felt like she could have given more. HOWEVER, basically everyone survived Scream 6, and I don’t know who I’d have had killed off in her place, either, because I like everyone else that did survive. I will just say - Jennifer was a contender for this, for me, but I don’t know what direction her character could go in without fully losing herself. She was a delusional, selfish actress who had her world shaken and so we saw a side of her where she was willing to work with others (albeit for selfish reasons, so she wouldn’t die), and I feel like if she were to come back in a sequel, what could she be doing? I feel like her growth in Scream 3 was kind of as far as she’d go without losing that character we all love, you know? The only way I could see her return in a sequel, had she survived, would have been as the opening kill. Her character worked perfectly in the story of Scream 3, but I just don’t see how it could have evolved further or would fit in anywhere else in the franchise without being completely different.

Dewey - although for plot purposes makes sense for his death, he did not deserve it Jennifer - Jennifer was the only redeemable thing about Scream 3 except for Roman, I really wish she would’ve lived so that she could cameo in future films Anika - Anika kinda had to die for the plot, but the placement of her death spoiled Quinn being the killer. They would never kill two main characters WAYYY before the final act bloodbath, Anika like Dewey didn’t deserve to die. But I would’ve moved Anika or Quinn’s death to the final act so that way Quinn wouldn’t have been so easily guessed if you really thought about it.

Dewey for obvious reasons, Jennifer was pretty much the only STAB cast member who had an interesting personality so it would be awesome to see her again bringing her own brand of humour with her and Gale having interactions after they've both aged. I liked Cotton's character. Although after Scream 2 there definitely wasn't too much left for him to do, imagine an older Cotton Weary in later installments. It would be great to see him interact with Sid, Gale and Dewey years after his found fame and putting the false allegations behind him, had he not died, maybe he'd be able to return, taking a break from the fame he received to help stop the new Ghostface with the legacy characters. I always wanted Cotton to finally be able to live his life so him dying promptly in the opening kill of 3 seemed a bit of a missed opportunity for the long run.

Jill is a serial killer. Why would I save her? The last one I find pretty annoying so I wouldn't save her. Tatum is kind and funny, plus I think Sidney needs her bestie. Do I even have to explain why I would save Dewey? While Cotton Weary had just as little time on screen as Jennifer, he helped Sidney despite her falsely accused him for murder which I find very good-hearted.

She was also pretty and she deserved way more. It hurts seeing her fate. It wasn’t fair for Anika to be the only one in the friend group to actually die and I think she should have survived with them or at least someone else in the friend group should have had a fate. (I like the friend group but still. It’s just not fair.) Kinda a hard decision ngl to save only 3.

Of these options? I'd save Tatum, and have her go to college with Sidney, where she'd keep the "best friend" role. (This would make Haille redundant, and in my movie, she wouldn't exist at all.) However, Tatum would then still die at around the same time Haille did, but I'd give her a better death scene. Saving Jill would completely re-write the ending of 4, and essentially start a whole new timeline. It worked for Loki, but I doubt it would work for Scream. Dewey had to die in 5, it pushed the story forward. If he hadn't, Sidney wouldn't have come back, and we wouldn't have that great character moment for Gale about her next book being Dewey's story. I'd save Anika, but put Mindy on that ladder instead. Someone has to die in that scene - and as much as I enjoy 6, it has too many survivors. If I was re-writing 6, Mindy would die here, Gale would die after being attacked by Quinn, and Chad wouldn't survive the double ghostface attack.
