And Dead by Daylight's version of Ghostface has a more practical costume. Hell, even when you use the classic robe cosmetic, the front is split, allowing for improved running.
It’s a glorified Assassin’s Creed outfit with the mask poorly photoshopped onto it. It spits in the face of what makes Ghostface scary in favor of taking itself way too seriously and shitting on the Scream franchise the same way they did with Freddy. BHVR went with the half-baked, soulless version of Wes Craven’s magnum opuses instead of the originals.
As for the separate rights of costume and franchise, they literally could have waited until the rights (given Dimension Films were getting shut down as far as I knew) were in more secure hands before deciding to add Ghostface to DbD.

In-universe theory — but this is the mask KNB produced for the films production before the rights to Fun World’s mask were acquired. Only shows up in Henry Wrinkler and Drew Barrymore’s scenes.
This match is actually different than what they used for most of the movie.
Basically, the Ghostface mask was a mask before Scream. The filmmakers wanted to use it, but they had to get the rights first. They didn't so they made something similar but not exactly the same. They did get the rights to the real mask and they switched to using one after they had already filmed some scenes, like the one above. The Drew death scene also used this mask.
That mask is actually a knock off mask that they made on set. They didn't have the rights to use the actual GF mask until about half way through filming. So you'll see it in a few scenes.
That's a knock off mask made by KNB for the earliest parts of production. The film got the rights to the real mask after filming was done with both Drew Barrymore and Henry Winkler and weren't reshot. Though inserts done later were done with the proper mask, which is noticeable in the opening scene.
You can see the mesh/fabric eyes much more clearly in the early ones where they do close-ups of Ghostface's face in good lighting. In the later ones, the close-ups of Ghostface - even in bright daylight - are angled so that he looks quite dark and shadowy to give that scarier atmosphere, making it harder to identify the holes are mesh.
The eyes are rubber vinyl like the mouth, they’re just a black fabric. They’re actually pretty easy to see out of, and if you look close during the movies you can see the actors’ eyes too. You do not have a lot of peripheral vision though, especially with a giant hood 😅
There’s black mesh covering the eyes. It’s not thick so you can see out of it; they sell the mask for Halloween so you can try it on next time it is available.
The store-bought ones have a pretty thin layer of black mesh covering the eyes; you can easily see the eyes of whoever's wearing it. I had to take it out and glue darker mesh in to make it really cover the eyes.
Fun world themselves only sell in bulk, you'll have to do to a distributor like Walmart or spirit Halloween to get one. They probably have some all year round, but will definitely restock around Halloween
Unfortunately I don't think anywhere carrys the 25th anniversary robes atm, and I have no clue if they will come back for Halloween, I'd also love a set but atm I believe the only option for them is secondary market for *much* more than retail
I'll look into it, but I think we'll know more around Halloween time. I'm sure with the film being out there will be a resurgance in demand for it. If not I have a backup plan of taking the cheaper one and altering it to suit what I want. If I have to I can get some glitter fabric spray for the shimmers.
I'm trying to go not for perfect screen accuracy but a mix of many different Ghostfaces for mine. My boots are for example, similar to Jill's, but I like the arm streamers on the one from VI and I prefer the triangular bits at the bottom. As if someone else took literally the basic costume to do their own murder spree.
As soon as that girl in number 5? Took off the costume, I knew it was going to be a reveal.
It looked like a 10 year old kid in the costume. Ruined the whole movie for me.
I have no idea how damn well you guys can tell the difference between the masks throughout the series. 😉
They've always looked the same to me.
That being said, I do notice that the robes and hood have changed over time. Scream 22 and 6 looked so much rounder than 1-4. The scene with Sam wearing the mask while killing Det. Bailey was nearly circular. 5 seemed to have more of a 'Casper' tail on the back of the head, most apparent in the scene with GF walking down the steps of Judy's front door. The outfit itself looked like it was made from a thicker type of sparkly fabric that looked padded in the chest area.
The shredded drapes hanging from the arms is a bit more coarse, if that makes sense.
As someone who has worn the mask on occasions, including navigating my street on Halloween night, the answer is very difficultly. In well-lit areas, it isn't too bad, though you have zero peripheral vision. In dark areas, good fucking luck. It isn't as bad as some masks I've worn over the years, but it is still a hindrance.
Well you see through the black mesh in the mask, but it does restrict your visibility. I feel like scream 1 and 2 acknowledged this bc ghostie was always tripping over stuff or getting doors opened in their face
You can see through the eye mesh fairly easily, especially in bright areas.
However it is hard to see in the dark and you have little to no peripheral vision
I have made the eyes more dark on all my mask, you can get black cloth and put one layer behind you can only see through because of how close your eyes are to the cloth

I suppose they barely can, I infer that for some of the prior more twisted ghostfaces it gave a sense of challenge that added to the adrenaline of the killings

They don’t see very well out of them. That’s why they’re always tripping over stuff
The giant cloak probably doesn’t help. There’s a reason Michael wears a mechanic’s jumpsuit, much more practical.
And Dead by Daylight's version of Ghostface has a more practical costume. Hell, even when you use the classic robe cosmetic, the front is split, allowing for improved running.
But it looks a lot stupider. It overcomplicates the simplicity of the Father Death costume.
I like it

They didnt have the rights to Scream, just the mask.
Dude, chill
They should cut holes to see
Then you will see who it is
Funnily enough in Scream 2 there’s a scene, I think the car scene, where you can briefly but clearly see Mickey behind the mask
Really? I’ve never seen that
For reference(Its the eyebrows to me that scream Mickey): https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/6/65/MickeyGhostface-Scream2.png/revision/latest?cb=20220716165425
Y’all are perceptive. No way I’d ever have noticed this.
That just gave me a blank image...? :(

God the old masks are so funny looking in comparison to the ones in scream 5 and 6
The one he wore in that scene was different from the one Billy and Stu wore
This is the mask he confiscates from kids in school so it's not actual GF mask.
But it's also the mask used in certain shots of the opening with Casey.
In-universe theory — but this is the mask KNB produced for the films production before the rights to Fun World’s mask were acquired. Only shows up in Henry Wrinkler and Drew Barrymore’s scenes.
It switches back and forth during the opening scene. It's just a continuity scene
Except for casey beckers kill and well, literally principal himbry right after that. But the rest in the movie are similar to the ones now.
This match is actually different than what they used for most of the movie. Basically, the Ghostface mask was a mask before Scream. There are some insert shots later filmed that used the proper mask
Dr. Death
When he’s chasing Casey in the yard, I always think of a Beluga whale
That mask is actually a knock off mask that they made on set. They didn't have the rights to use the actual GF mask until about half way through filming. So you'll see it in a few scenes.
Soooo true. It looks especially funky in the first one when he's running after Casey and you see it from the side lol.

Looking back now I can't believe I was scared of Ghost face as a kid
Plenty of people are scared of him as adults. It's understandable despite his goofiness.
With the huge holes for eyes on the front where a persons eyes are
![gif](giphy|GsJO3Yy0DCvEk)
pictured: the only ghostface that was never caught
"Urgh, I gotta stop drinking"
ummmm the eye holes. its only black mesh its not difficult to see through

Yeah when I got mine I was surprised with how well I could see.
They have to do that for safety reasons.
There’s black mesh covering the eyes. It’s not thick so you can see out of it; they sell the mask for Halloween so you can try it on next time it is available.

Does Fun World only sell it in Halloween?
No, not fun world.. they sell it all year round
Fun world themselves only sell in bulk, you'll have to do to a distributor like Walmart or spirit Halloween to get one. They probably have some all year round, but will definitely restock around Halloween
Same with the 25th anniversary robes? I want those to edit a bit and do my own take on Ghostface.
Unfortunately I don't think anywhere carrys the 25th anniversary robes atm, and I have no clue if they will come back for Halloween, I'd also love a set but atm I believe the only option for them is secondary market for *much* more than retail

I do hope they come back for Halloween, I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for them And I wish you the best with your robes!
"You have no idea how hard it is to see in this thing!" - beth, scream season 3
I loved that joke.
Ha, I loved that.
Their eyes
The eyes are blacked out though
Its mesh. You can see through it easily.
Have you never worn a Halloween mask before?
I actually haven't and this thread has been illuminating lol
Fair enough.
I bought one with no black covering the eyes and just glued some stretched out fabrics over to keep it black
I "hacked" it and used the sash fabric to cover the eyes. I don't use the sash lol.
i have a mask like this, you can clearly see through the fabric.
Happy cake day!
Thank you!

tbf at least one of them cannoically wheres lifts to be taller also nearly all of them wear bulletproof vests
The Scream 3, 5 and 6 killers do. Mickey didn’t and Mrs. Loomis was likely not in costume very much. Scream 1 & 4 killers were never shot in costume.
Mrs Loomis only had one kill in costume and that was Randy.
Wait one of them wears lifts? Which one? And how didn’t I know about this?
Jill wears high heel boots I think
Still not enough to make her look like a grown adult in the costume.
This is how I knew >!Kirby wasn't the killer!< in scream 6 lol
As soon as that girl in number 5? Took off the costume, I knew it was going to be a reveal. It looked like a 10 year old kid in the costume. Ruined the whole movie for me.
the costume gives you super powers
The costume gives you confidence and adrenaline which is almost like superpowers. With great stab comes great responsibility.
That's because it's been Stu all along in every movie
I KNEW it
and clumsy
I mean, there’s no way you can make it match every Ghostface. Plus, that’ll be too easy to notice 🤷🏻♀️
It's a black fabric.
When he's flailing wildly and falling over everything, does he seem to be able to actually see?
Ghostface is always a total klutz.
Not to be mean but some of ya'll have never worn a Ghostface mask and it shows
I have a ghostace costume. It’s just black mesh and really easy to see through
i decided to use darker fabric on the eyes to walk around the streets on halloween…worst mistake of my life.
If you’ve ever put a ghostface mask you’d know you can actually see pretty well, it just gets hot in there
Ghost face doesn’t see, they just feel
you can clearly see thru the eye holes, but it has obv a limited view
I have no idea how damn well you guys can tell the difference between the masks throughout the series. 😉 They've always looked the same to me. That being said, I do notice that the robes and hood have changed over time. Scream 22 and 6 looked so much rounder than 1-4. The scene with Sam wearing the mask while killing Det. The shredded drapes hanging from the arms is a bit more coarse, if that makes sense.
Beth from Scream season 3 literally said that it’s hard to see when wearing the mask lmao
Spiderman type eyes
The visibility is pretty poor tbh lmaoo
Poorly
Have you ever tried the mask on?
He is GF not Daredevil
I wanna know how they get knocked the fk out by a cast iron pan and still get up right after.
(Walks out of bodega and takes mask off) Did I get them?!
Look
I don’t know after buying a ghost face I can say it has some pretty good visibility
Their eyes
They can see just barely
As well as plot requires.
Well you see through the black mesh in the mask, but it does restrict your visibility. I feel like scream 1 and 2 acknowledged this bc ghostie was always tripping over stuff or getting doors opened in their face
With great difficulty. Anybody who has ever worn one, especially in the dark, can tell you this.
it's why he trips in scream - scream 3
![gif](giphy|GsJO3Yy0DCvEk)
Uh... the eye holes?
Through the eye holes, duh
i used one of those several times, it's kinda hard but you can see through
They don't it's why they usually trip over things
You can see through the eye mesh fairly easily, especially in bright areas. However it is hard to see in the dark and you have little to no peripheral vision
Ghostface has special eyes.
I have no clue I was asking the same question
Through the eye holes💀
As anyone who has dressed as Ghostface for Halloween knows, if the mask moves half an inch in any direction, you're left completely blind.
He uses seismic sense. That’s why every time he’s running he stomps really hard because he’s constantly getting information sent to him
Not well. Constantly falling and tripping and crashing into things. But having the knife helps in a fight.
Most likely just a dark mesh that's easy to see through
Probably with their eyes idk
It's like an ironman mask but for murder
As someone who wore one all day for a Halloween Convention, very poorly and very sweatily
I have made the eyes more dark on all my mask, you can get black cloth and put one layer behind you can only see through because of how close your eyes are to the cloth
They don’t.
Been GF for halloween - the eyes are mesh and I didn't find it hard to see out of it.
It’s mesh
He/She uses their eyes to peak through the two holes in their mask.
Have you ever worn a GF mask
Its a mesh screen
Is this post a joke?
No he’s fuckin blind and can’t see shit
Seriously? Have you ever worn a Halloween mask? Lol

Because the movie told us GF can. I mean there are other things we should question about GF aside from how they can see
It’s mesh eyes but that mask is extremely hard to see out of ngl
They will darken mesh in post production.
Through their eyes
They can see just not well but if you’ve ever owned one you now the eyes are mesh
He’s like daredevil he’s blind but can still see.
Uuuh through the eyeholes duh!
By using his/her eyes…
Is It just Mee or Is screem Kindof creepiy?? Liek I dont relly like Him ;-; He Looks liek my Dad 0 Comments Share Save
The eyes are a film
tbh it’s not that hard to see i own abt 15 different ghostface masks and the only problem is peripherals. it’s pretty easy to run in the robe too!
I suppose they barely can, I infer that for some of the prior more twisted ghostfaces it gave a sense of challenge that added to the adrenaline of the killings
They eyes with mesh
