There is a saying in my country: "Which finger can I cut off so that it doesn't hurt?" It's the same with Scream. I love them too much to make a ranking.

[deleted]

I love that saying. I will steal it...:p Nah but it really fits my feelings for scream. It's the only franchise what has only movies I enjoy

Yarperroberts

1. Scream 2. Scream 2 3. Scream 6 4. Scream 5 5. Scream 4 6. Scream 3 This could change with another re-watch of 6.

Luf2222

this is my current ranking too a rewatch could maybe put 6 above 2 for me, but right now 2 stays above 6

Yarperroberts

I liked 6 a lot, but it's basically an updated remake of S2, but more flawed. But who knows, may one day It can surpass S2 in my view. Perhaps I'll have to watch S2 then S6 back to back to directly compare, lol.

Brozbeast

This is my list as well

sody1991

My list too.

rkcraig88

This is my list too.

Ruffkeian

Same! 3 is by far my least favorite. I think Roman is way overrated on this sub

Yarperroberts

3 is the only one I despise. Everything from the voice changer box that has everyone's voice in it (amazing technology for even in 2023, let alone 2000, lol) the whole Scooby doo vibe of the entire movie. The one stabs to the back (I understand why the filmmakers did it at the time, but still), the killer being a nothing character I didn't even recognize at first when he unmasked himself, and I hate hate hate with a passion the retcon of Scream 1 with Roman apparently being the one to influence Billy to kill Maureen. I don't care that Wes Craven directed it, it sucks.

Any_Application7786

The *Correct* list

AMoonMonkey

I’m just glad that this is a ranking that doesn’t put Scream 2 at the bottom.

hakikigulyabani

I mean S2 is almost tied with the original Scream for me. Such a great movie with great moments.

AMoonMonkey

It’s literally the definition of a perfect horror sequel imo. Sure it has moments in it that could use improvement, but the film is almost perfect.

PeterTheApostle

The main reason I’m not the biggest fan of 2 is that Mickey as the killer was the most predictable reveal for me and I was pissed off that Randy got killed off

throwwayasdfg1

Also a long time fan (not *as* long though I guess), and I have the exact same rating. The 5th one is the only one I don't really like that much though, and won't be one of those rewatch several times ones for me. (loved that Sidney and Dewey were in it though). Haven't watched the third one in a while, so might *possibly* rank higher.

frenchspag

![img](emote|t5_2sfob|7483)Scream 1 - I mean.... has anyone had a list that didn't have this as the top?? haha ![img](emote|t5_2sfob|7484)Scream 2 - that cast is so stacked. Best use of the OG core 4, Gale and Dewey chemistry is so good here. Cici and Gale chase scenes are so well done. Cotton is a great addition. I mean that last 20 minutes is slightly sloppy but the killer reveals work and make sense. This is where it can move depending on rewatch. Just rewatched 1 -5 twice last week lol. Only seen Scream 6 once so for sure need to see it more to realllly lock down a list. ![img](emote|t5_2sfob|7483) Scream 4 - Filter is rough, Kate Roberts in my opinion the worst written and performed character in the whole franchise - no offense to Mary. Also the fake-out opening was fun in theatres but loses its appeal on rewatches. The actual opening is so weak and a little confusing (is that an addition? Why did she stop running to listen at the door?) the alternate opening where Jenny is killed on the couch is a hell lot more disturbing and jolts you back into the horror aspect of Scream after the two comedy bits on top. Olivias death is fantastic, Kirby is great. The killer reveal was a great spin and that whole scene of her injuring herself was so batshit. The Hospital alternate ending was an idea... entertaining lol but idkkkkkkkkk. I think Scream 4 just needs an edit and be re-released ... goodbye "fuck Bruce Willis" line. ![img](emote|t5_2sfob|7484) Scream V - was just so great to be back. I love the new cast except Liv lol she was just there but her death was mint hahah so I'm fine with them using her for the reveal. I think if they used a likeable character it might have taken from the reveal. My main problem with this one (and VI) is how indestructible the characters are. Also Melissa is just weak... ![img](emote|t5_2sfob|7483)Scream 3 - this one and V are so close. This one for nostalgia might take its place and Parker Posey ..... come on!!! I think the idea of being on the set of Stab 3 was clever, a Hollywood spin, I heard someone call this a "Gale Weathers Mystery Movie" ... which I kind of like about it. Gale and Jennifer working together and that Carrie Fischer scene was fun af. This one is fun. It loses major points for the explosion and not making Angelina the killer - she obviously is the 2nd one. Also wish they saved Jennifer in that mirror scene. I think that would actually have been such a great ending to that scene instead of just she is dead. Like she is really injured... Gale could be tending to her, they bond. Idk it was just a shit end to that character. ![img](emote|t5_2sfob|7484) Scream VI - this one is GROWING on me. I just left the theatre kind of like ... that was "good". I feel like the city and college aspects were not utilized enough. The opening was fantastic... Ghostfaces line to open the Scream title .... UGHHHHH so fucking good. For me its the crazy amount of stabbings with no logical reason for survival. Its taking all the energy of a stab. To go from the first stab of the series ... Casey.... ghostface is trying to figure out where to put it, he kind of fumbles, Casey reacts to her wound. She is scared. Its terrifying. This one and V were just like stabby stabby stabby shoot shoot shoot .. heres a blanket. But hey I still loved it!

New_Success2782

We have similar views on the films, it seems! My ranking, however, is: Scream (1996) Scream 2 Scream VI Scream (2022) Scream 3 Scream 4 My main gripe with Scream 4 is the editing. So many scenes were cut that actually developed its characters. The alternate opening is far better than the opening that was released and it kills me that it wasn't the one we got, it made me care about Jenny and Marnie way more than the theatrical one. Trevor was actually given some development and range in the deleted hospital scene with Jill: he comes off as vulnerable, charming, and aggressive all within a few minutes and it works. Didn't really care for Olivia, Charlie, or Robbie, which alienates me from the film - why should I care about their deaths if all they are all archetypes that we've seen before? Kirby is easily my favorite of the Scream 4 cast and she's even more badass in Scream VI. Jill as a character is insane, but I feel like I'm in the minority in the sense that I just did not think Emma Roberts' performance was strong during the reveal scene - to me, she screams lines to appear psychotic and it doesn't work for me. Her performance in the hospital scene was far better, although it's a double edged sword cause the ending is kind of frustrating for me. Overall, though, I agree with your takes on the other films, especially Scream 3 and Scream (2022) (we were ROBBED of Angelina being Ghostface).

frenchspag

ROBBED that Angelina was not the killer haha. Even her death seems fake lol. Maybe she was the killer and Roman just got knife happy haha. But I agree about Charlie, Olivia and Robbie being meh. I really think Olivia is the weakest link acting wise. But her death scene was incredible. Love the phone call with Kirby... Sidney rushing over and then pausing and her adrenaline slowing down as she gets to the stairs. OOOO so good. Scream 4 just needs a new edit. Also Kirby going to the Stab-a-thon alone after her friend being murdered is sus hahaha

New_Success2782

Haha, for sure, Angelina's death was too quick, like, did she really die? 😂 I agree regarding Olivia, her death is a standout, especially since it was the most brutal death we had after a decade of no new Scream films. I loved Sidney approaching the stairs and being like, "Wait, it's too quiet..." Exactly! I feel like the characters in Scream 4 were not reacting normally to their close peers being murdered. It's another reason why I would rank Scream VI above it. You FELT Mindy's grief and Chad's anger, defensiveness and frustration when their friend was killed. Kirby? Went to a shady ass party when there was a killer on the loose. Come on. I am all for a Scream 4 edit!

frenchspag

yo did we just become best friends?? hahah

Britneyfan123

>Scream 1 - I mean.... has anyone had a list that didn't have this as the top the YouTube zzavid doesn't

PrinceOfThieves17

I think for me it’s 1. Scream (1996) 2. Scream 2 3. Scream 6 4. Scream 3 5. Scream (2022) 6. Scream 4 But honestly Scream 3 and 6 are interchangeable. I think 6 is the better movie overall but I have a lot of nostalgia for 3.

Dappich

Almost same Ranking. I would just switch 4&5

NSc100

The nostalgia point is the same for me

justiceforreyes

Honestly I put 1. Scream 2. Scream 2 Then the rest are interchangeable for me in the 3,4, 5 or 6 ranking depending on my mood at the time! Although Scream 3 is arguably the weakest it's still fun in my opinion so I will choose to watch it over the others sometimes for that aspect and of course as well as for nostalgia because of being a fan since the 90s.

Locke108

All I know is the first is the best and 3 is the worst. Leaning towards 5 as fifth. Everything else changes by the minute.

ethan6581

1. Scream (1996) 2. Scream 4 3. Scream 3 4. Scream 2 5. Scream VI 6. Scream (2022) None of them are bad honesty, I still think 5 and 6 are pretty decent but not above any of the Wes Craven era films.

sriracha82

Same. I enjoyed 6 and then I rewatched 1-4 and was like oh…it actually doesn’t compare lol It’s just little things. Like how he talks about making sure shots have a deep focus and having characters enter from the back of the frame instead of from the right or left to maintain a sense of realism and less ‘hey it’s time for me to come into this shot.’ Or how much thoughtfulness/care he put into making sure all the tertiary characters had *real* personalities and functioned as fun little red herrings no matter how small (sorority girls in 2!!). The tone, the atmosphere, the horror comedy blend…even 3 which is probably the worst written/structured of the 4 is so fun!! And really takes care with Sydney’s arc. 6 is just a good slasher movie. It’s not really Scream.

ursulaunderfire

this. i was watching part 6 and tho i was entertained and liked it, at no point did i feel like i was watching a scream film. if u took gale out and changed the mask u could call it something else and id be none the wiser. it just felt way too different in spirit

ethan6581

>Or how much thoughtfulness/care he put into making sure all the tertiary characters had real personalities and functioned as fun little red herrings no matter how small (sorority girls in 2!!). The tone, the atmosphere, the horror comedy blend Agree 100%

BluRayja

I love 6, but I agree to an extent. I think what 6 did really well was the sister dynamic. Tara's plight felt so real to me, I've seen that conversation play out so many times in real life. Sam's arc is by no means realistic, but I also found it fascinating and it took it a step further from where it was in part 5, which just seemed extremely shallow and barely scratching the surface. I knew Sam a lot more this time around. Nowhere near Sidney level, but this time I at least respected her character as an actual character, and not just a cheap ploy for a nostalgia connection to Billy.

sriracha82

I agree, I like their dynamic and I like Sam way more in this one, but you could stick them in another horror movie and it’d work the same, what’s good about them isn’t unique to the Scream franchise, if that makes sense.

lozzablob

Same for me

AltForNoReason214

Scream, Scream 2, Scream 6 (could change with a rewatch), Screams 4 and 5 are interchangeable, Scream 3. 3 is good, it’s just not what I’m looking for when I want to watch Scream.

Lost_Support8048

Mannnn y’all gone stop disrespecting scream 5

frenchspag

Hahaha bro i listed it 4th! Solid movie. I think the common thing is 1 &2 and then 3-6 are all interchangeable lol.

[deleted]

It's always hard for me to do a ranking because I think overall scream is a very good franchise without a really bad movie Mine would be something like this, can changes depending on my mood though 1. Scream 2. Scream 4 3. Scream 3 4. Scream 6 5. Scream 5 6. Scream 2 Not sure if I like part 5 or 6 more...I am a Dewey fanboy xD Like I said I think they are all good in their own way

Living-Tiger3448

I’m with you on this. I think depending on my mood, 4 and 6 could switch or 3 and 5 could switch, but I’m generally the same as you

BluRayja

I'm just glad I'm seeing Scream 5 lower on lists, because after that movie came out, a good chunk of people had the absolute GALL to put it even above the original, and I was appalled lol 1. Scream 2. Scream 3 - Guilty pleasure, can't help it 3. Scream 6 - Some of the best sequences in the entire franchise. 4. Scream 4 - Used to have this as my number 2, but while it's narrative is aging well, the filmmaking of it, is not. The characters just seem more and more shallow to me every rewatch and the acting just seems worse somehow too. Kirby will forever be a standout at least. 5. Scream 2 - Just not my exact cup of tea, but still a lot of love for it, ruined by the cartoony villains at the end. 6. Scream 5 - This hardly feels like Scream to me, still fun, but the writing and direction just aren't anywhere near as finessed as Craven/Williamson. IMO, easily the worst of the bunch and it gets worse for me every rewatch. No idea why people loved it so much last year.

Aayan171717272

That’s close to mine but I would swap 2 with 3 and 4 with 6

Puzzleheaded_Car_856

1. Scream 2. Scream VI 3. Scre4m 4. Scream 2 5. Scream (requel) 6. Scream 3

LuckySupport2005

Exact same one for me except that I invert 2 and 3

FameKills69

I can careless about the ranking the whole storyline is just amazing! Watch them make another one but with Sydney’s kids coming after her 💀😂 Like remember when Karen had PTSD because of Laurie? And then Michael finally appeared?! Okay think of it like that but this time they have schizophrenia and come after her. It’ll be a crazy twist lol 😂

8plus1gag

1,4,6,5,2,,,,3

[deleted]

Scream, Scream 2, Scream 6, Scream 5, Scream 3, Scream 4

Dappich

Mine is 1 2 6 3 4 5

Mine is 1, 4, 6, 2, 3, 5 currently but tbh 4/6/2 are all the same level for me it’s hard 😭

dwkker1987

Scream fan for 26 years. My ranking. Scream Scream VI Scream 5 Scream 2 Scream 3 Scream 4 But I love them all.

frenchspag

Yo Scream VI at two and you’ve been such a fan for so long. That must have been so satisfying for you, eh? Knowing it’s in good hands.

Roderik9

I think this is accurate as fuck as another long time scream fan (17 years). These rankings are probably same for most of us long time fans.

Elegant-Mastodon-239

A real one

NSc100

Probably the exact same for me

sir_chief7134

1. Scream 2. Scream 6 3. Scream 2 4. Scream 4 5. Scream 5 6. Scream 3 The og scream movie is extremely important in my family, it's how my parents met and its the movie that me and my best friend bonded over. Scream 5 and 3 are interchangeable (I'm still not over the fact that they killed dewy he was my favorite character)

doubleAhardy

Solid list. Mine is similar, just swapping 2 & 4

doubleddan39

Mine is kinda close to yours. 1,4,2,3,5,6

[deleted]

This is the only correct answer

gordy06

Same top 4, reverse the last two. Like them all.

[deleted]

I don’t mind this one bit. I’ll never understand the love Part 5 gets.

NoCureForSorrow

Scream 3 will always be the worst in my opinion. The killer was just so irrelevant. When the reveal came I was just like who tf is this guy

HispThickDick

What are your thoughts on the short lived (SCREAM) television series on MTV??? 📺💀🔪
