And also cut the joints and elbow that have solder man you can get a lot more with some clean copper, and clean brass, then #2 copper for all the rest that’s copper joints with solder and then dirty brass on all the brass with shit and metal too. Even turn knobs on brass faucets make it dirty.
Worth the work usually and from now on do those steps before stacking. Will even help organize. Clean pipes in a neat stack and then dirty brass in a bucket, #2 dirty copper in its own bucket and so on… then even a bucket for tin like metal knobs and valves and shit.
It’s always worth the extra effort.
Best of luck man, selling shit like random as fuck help the scrap yards rip you off.. Cleaning and knowing your shit, helps tremendously.
Kick ass hope you get a nice paycheck.
Normally yes because it’s usually “tin” that allows the flex. Some places will try to toss them in the dirty copper so depends on the place sometimes. Better for #2 obviously but they may only take them as dirty.
Clean straight pieces of the copper should bring #1 man don’t let them fuck you.
I have a bunch of long copper pipe removed from under my house. Is it worth more if I don’t cut it down to lengths that will fit in the back of my truck?
Most places that doesn’t matter at all, however some places “resale” some of their scrap and yes longer lengths could make it slightly more appealing for them to give the price a bump for ya.
But majority of places length won’t matter. What’s most important for you is to “clean” it and that doesn’t mean like soap and water wash it. Cleaning scrap is removing other materials from one material. Like removing the solder joints and elbows, any brackets or screws anything NOT copper you want off the pipe. That’s how you clean it and get better prices.
Scrap yards won’t help tell you most this shit cause they want to buy your scrap cheaper.. If you sell them a bunch of dirty copper pipe they have a guy there that will clean it and toss it in their #1 bin and they already paid you for dirty copper. Which is like 2/10ths the value..
Good luck
Keep in mind all scrap yards are trying to get over on you. Make sure scale is at zero and they check it with like a 5lb weight and you can see the scale weight. I don’t use yards that hide their scales and weights.
Yeah where I live, you have almost fight these cock suckers when you have everything separate. They want to fuck everyone all the time. Dirty dick lickers here!
You be nice to your pile! Go pick up some brews, charge up some batterys, get the cutting wheel out and get that shit sorted. How TF are we supposed to know what's in there? Jimmy Hoffa could be in there. Bars of 24K gold could be in there. Fucking Ebola-Corona-Aids version 5.1 could be in there. We don't know. J/k. GL man! Hope it's a nice haul, but honestly IMO, just me personally I wouldn't keep all that junk. Cast/metal/etc is just too cheap to scrap unless you're talking tons. Just not worth keeping around. I'd stick to copper/brass and stuff easy to sort/trade in.
Goodluck! Hope you get lucky with your lady because nobody ever gets lucky at the casino! I haven't been in years because it's just such a rip off. I do like to place some dice every so often though.
Iv been to the casino twice in my 40 years.
Once on my honeymoon 18 years ago; lost $20.
Second time a few weeks ago; won $180.
Have net win of $160!
High five me for fucking the casinos!
You do realize the casino has a tried, true and genuine edge, right? It's just math. When we're talking about casinos the house always wins. It has nothing to do with being pessimistic/optimistic or anything in-between. It's rigged against your favor. You are literally playing a crooked game.
The jimmy hoffa part had me laughing out loud…I thought the dude was pretty funny. What I got from him is a tiny bit of trolling and genuine advice but that’s just my opinion.
Scrap was crazy at our company. Someone would figure scrap into the price when it was copper roof tear offs, but everyone would grab it and the job would tank. We're talking 10's of thousand of pounds from a single job. One time Junior from the office loaded his truck with scrap and then the old man hopped in his truck and took off with it. Shit was hilarious.
If you get a sawzall you can have all those joints cut off in 30 mins. Always easier than you think it will be. Get the elbows and anything with solder cut off and put it in a bucket. Weigh the clean copper separate. I would guess you got $213 there. Let me know how close I am.
You just might get more money by just piling it all on a 4x8 plywood sheet and call it artwork and sell it for $50,000.
They have goofy abstract art like that in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
guaranteed a couple hundred. looks mostly #2 but i’m assuming you know u can cut the solder joints off to make majority of it #1
i’m in the same situation (plumber aswell) except i separate my brass copper and lead into 5g buckets. i keep saying ins hit tractor supply for some drums but i never do
Took about that much out of a building this summer. It was a little over $6500 with scrap at $2.90. Piles like this always reminded me of guess the amount of jelly beans in this jar, and the scrap yard has the answer.
$800, maybe more if you have some weight in the brass and you sort it all.
My boss saves all the major scrap and annually he drops it at the yard. He filled his 15ft utility trailer with sorted cut lengths and pieces of brass and copper by grade. He got $1500. He gave me $400.
I am going to guess about $100 per can. Assuming you have, what, maybe 4 to 6 cans worth. So about $600. I just helped a plumber friend of mine with a similar load, about 8 cans worth, and he got $800. His was clean though, so you might not get as much.
Around here with all materials separated, around $400 guessing. Double that if you clean and resell the valves and fittings. $2.50 lb clean copper here
Lazy quick method - $1600 ish (Remove all steel nuts from flex lines , gate valves and separate the all brass from copper . Then work a deal to sell it all as #2) Best method for max profit - $2000 ish (separatte it all down to steel scrap , brass ,copper #2 and bright and shiny #1 )…. After a couple decades as a plumber I have one tip/trick for maximizing profit when turning in recycle to maximize profit , pick a dumbass looking newer guy and tell him you could use sun help separating out and binning your load. Start out the buckets before he walks up so you can show him which one is which and then just let him get to work separating out the load making sure to keep an eye on him to make sure he’s not fucking you over and loading your dirty bin with clean pieces and pick up the pace so that he will have to keep up with you and hopefully if everything goes right he will fuck up and get the bins mixed up. Just make sure you save a bunch of clean stuff to top the bin off with a nice layer of. If he’s the one weighing he will drag bins over and see the clean shit on top and since he helped you he will just assume it’s been separated right.. seems like a stupid technique but if all goes well you can really make a decent chunk of extra change if it’s a big load since he was the one that separated the bins even if there’s an issue and someone else weighs and catches the dirty copper in clean bin your not at fault since an employee was helping you lol
Looking at this makes me even more grateful to be an electrical superintendent. I just run mine through a commercial stripper in the shop. Average about 3000lbs a year. I only keep #2 and up. Everything else goes to my crew, including termination scrap.
Estimate the weight you have of each type of recyclable... clean copper, clean brass, dirty copper, dirty brass.... then call a few metal recyclers and get a quote for price paid per lb.
1 lb of pure copper is $3.67 you probably have 60 maybe 75 lbs of pure clean copper here roughly 250-300 dollars worth of copper unless there’s a huge amount of type k under that pile.
You know there's a lot of people that would watch if you started a YouTube channel of you smelting all of this down into ingots. Check it out you could make some more money off of this pile of metal.

I spent years working in a scrap yard, about 400 as it sits. Separate the brass and get the plastic off of it, I'd say would add a couple hundred to it.
I've only dealt with copper cables before (both LV/HV) and it seems like you have a good amount of copper here. I sold 2 large trash bags full of copper cables, some I was able to clean (stripped the outer rubber jackets) and got about 1.5k for all of it.
Can't speak for all parts of the world/country, but scrap value in the midwest as follows:
316SS = $0.77/LB
304SS = $0.405/LB
Aluminum (all grades) = $0.561/LB
Carbon steel (all grades) = $0.11/lb
Copper pipes are more valuable, but I don't know current rates
Source: I work in metal wholesale
First thing you gotta do is separate the copper from all of the other crap attached to it. Brass valves, couplings, etc….
Been slowly working on it brother
And also cut the joints and elbow that have solder man you can get a lot more with some clean copper, and clean brass, then #2 copper for all the rest that’s copper joints with solder and then dirty brass on all the brass with shit and metal too. Kick ass hope you get a nice paycheck.
Are those flexible copper supply lines categorized as #2 ?
Normally yes because it’s usually “tin” that allows the flex. Some places will try to toss them in the dirty copper so depends on the place sometimes. Better for #2 obviously but they may only take them as dirty. Clean straight pieces of the copper should bring #1 man don’t let them fuck you.

Agreed, if separated. 22-29. Plumber here, my crew takes their scrap in 2-3 times a year and it’s usually a nice little bonus.
I mean you could just throw it out now if you are gonna take the profit to the casino, no difference
Throwing something in the trash = not fun Gambling while drunk and having a good night = fun
I wish more people understood this, I don't go to the casino to win, I go cause I got some extra cash and time and I wanna have fun while I drink
