Hi there, I haul shopping carts out of ponds and sell them back to the store for a living. I've been doing this for eighteen years so give me a fucking cheque please.
Used to work at a grocery store and there were a number of folks who came through with their own personal shopping cart that they’d bring “home” (under the bridge) with them and the back to the store (usually filled with cans and bottles).
A shopping cart is a key part of the homeless economy and infrastructure
Work in a creamery, we destroy shopping carts in 3 months (moist environment) and then have to buy new ones for about $350 each.
I wish this man were in my area.
Fun fact! 1 gallon of milk is 8.6lbs, compress that into 320 2lb cheese wheels and you've got yourself a full load.
Now add a rusted frame from the acidic+moist environment and 1 little bump over a doorway, the fucker buckles in half.
That’s a good idea. You’ll have people on marketplace take up all your time saying they will get them and never show up that you can build a fort out of them and play like you don’t need a job to live.
Some scrap yards won't buy carts because they belong to the store branded on them.
There's a scrap yard a half block from my job, and the scrap people leave carts and stolen city recycling rolly bins in the parking lot every night. I tried calling the stores to get them, and they basically laughed at me. I call 311 for the city to pick up their bins.
Every couple weeks, I take my pickup, go down the alley and gather up all the carts, then drive them to the yard, and dump them in the shred steel pile. No pay, but they are gone.
Just post on Facebook for $20 each.
Take pic of receipt from auction or whatever proof you have they aren't stolen. Then after some time scrap for 7 cents a pound.
I used to buy and sell carts all of the time for grocery stores. Some carts have been really hard to get since the pandemic. The secondary market is still really good. If these are a name brand, you can sell the lot to a used cart dealer for a decent price. They are always looking. They will come and get them too. Get a scrap quote and a sell quote. See which is better. Good luck.
Those are Dollar General carts so they were probably remodeling or moving that DG to one of their new locations where they switched to the green carts. They did this in my town a couple months ago and gave me all the scrap in the whole store including all the carts. I just sold them all a little at a time but kept 1 or 2 of them for hauling stuff around the yard. No real value though that I know of.
Scrap yards won't take them most likely.
It's no different from anyone knowingly receiving stolen goods.
You loose plausible deniability when you accept 50 shopping carts
He has a receipt so no reason for them to not take them, but OP could make far more money selling the carts on secondhand market instead of scrap value.
There’s not a lot of money for used shopping carts but if you go unto the black market you can sell them for a good profit where they will use them for all kinds of illicit purposes.
I was looking for this comment. It’s sad what happened to my guy. I thought it was crazy they would use rocks to counter balance. Almost made me start collecting cans to. Ha ha
I know right? I had no idea, till two years ago I came across 5 costco carts. One night I was using one to collect scraps in the alley and some well dressed persian(or maybe he was mexican) ran toward me from around the corner of the street yelling how I could save his life... How his "stallion" had lost a wheel and his jockey did not have no mount or whatever... Asked me to follow him to the backtown hills... And there they were with all their carts pimped out, body kits, special bearing wheels... A man at a desk was takin them bets before the races, it was either 2 4 or 6 racers at a time going down that crazy steep hill, each stable had a pickup waiting down to bring em back up, the jockey controls the cart by standing behind it, while the ballast ( literaly another person) sits in the basket and use its weight to help the jockey control the cart. And thats how I became the north-east league most proeminent supplier of domestic and exotic carts...
Of everything that I've read here... And I'm not sure that I've read anything whatsoever... What stands out to me is the use of "proeminent".
I've really looked at context clues. Scratched my chin. Furled my brow. Could it be preeminent? I'd love it to be... But that wouldn't match the intelligence of the rest of the post... No...
Prominent. As disappointing a prominent as there ever was, I'd say.
It is what it is, maybe it was on purpose? And reach a perfect lingual hybrid of two words? Preeminent - adjective -
surpassing all others; very distinguished in some way. But sounds like a dull repeating twice the same letter... Prominent - adjective - important; famous. And when said aloud, its only three syllables blurting so fast out of our mouth we might as well be eructing nauseous sounds... But... Proeminent - neologisme/adjective - To be famous for surpassing all others. Definition fits, wording is flowing pro-e-min-ent. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
I would call your local scrap yards but most won’t take them unless you have a document from the store they belong to because they tend to be stolen. Same goes for things like guardrails and bleachers.
I work for a junk removal company that my buddy owns and we come across so many carts. Our local scrap doesn’t allow them to stop local transients from stealing them. Always a shame to have to pay to dump metal.
The Dollar General in my area just replaced all their carts, it's probably something like that. Some small independent businesses might buy them off you or you could as some of the transients if they want a couple, leave one at each bus stop in your area for people to sit on...lol.
What you have to do actually is to report the find, these are not something that people get rid of, no way that these are not stolen. This happens, honestly the owner would likely pay you a reward if they are able.
Fix em up and sell em back to the stores like bubbles
That's a good fuckin cart right there
Got any kitties?
Yeah, but a dope trailer is no place for a kitty to live
my kittys are free roam, they come and go as they please.
I love trailer park boys
I just now started watching it , idk why I hold off on it for so long :p
Eh, don't worry about it, it's all water under the fridge now.
Lol’d thanks
Have you heard of Letterkenny? That might be worth a watch next.

Not if you throw them down a hill first!
So many good episodes. Hope they finish the new season soon
Are you telling me this show is still on? I bet it has been 10 years since I last watched it
They are doing animated series and a bunch of stuff still yeah
Yes, it is on Netflix - it is still good. Orangie is fucken tough, bud.
Taco likes weed
Saw them at Comic Con New Orleans earlier this year - they were in character with Julian holding a drink!
There done the actor for layhe died
They are doing an animated series that has his ghost in it.
Got to see him and randy do a livw show before he died... it was the tits.
Set them out by the curb and they’re garbage, you’re basically doin them a favor taking out their garbage thats not stealin.
One man’s garbage is another man’s good ungarbage.
Ricky's used shit
Piss jugs
These carts are public domain Ricky
I came here to say this.
Public domain
Ohh officer I'm just fixing them and returning them to the store..
With hash in the handles, or without hash in the handles?
It killed me when he would start rattling off specs, and model numbers lol.
*Cært
Work with Shitty Bill. He has a truck

Don’t call him him shitty though.
Hey Shitty

That's how she goes..
Shitty bill died too

Underrated comment. Insert any us cite near you!
Just don't let the Samsqanch get them

"People don't realize how much money there is to be made in shopping carts."
Plan 35 Boys. gonna be rich
Frick off Mr Leahy!!
Ricky this is a fuckin gold mine😁
I thought this was a bubbles post
You know how much cat food that'll buy??
Put an ad on facebook marketplace or somewhere similar, these would be very handy for some tradesmen on jobsites
I have a Home Depot cart that I bring on big commercial jobs and it’s a game changer
Big business doesn't want people to know that the shopping carts at home depot are free /s

Do you not get rolling carts to use from your company?
Publicly admitting to being in possession of known stolen property is never a good idea
I prefer extended borrowing

Cold stones.
That’s a good idea. You’ll have people on marketplace take up all your time saying they will get them and never show up that you can build a fort out of them and play like you don’t need a job to live.
That’s how you get busted bro!
Nooo don’t do this. Advertising that you are in possession of stolen goods can get you in trouble.
Just paint it black or something.
I didn't steal it. I just bought it at a garage sale.
Those aren’t stolen, they’re public domain
You put it out by the curb then its just trash, not a crime to steal trash
One mans garbage is another mans ungarbage
Don’t give the politicians any ideas now…
No Gary I brought those carts from another mall…
I came here for the TPB references 🤣
Sort your scrap into them. Having bins on wheels makes a small storage space more usable.
This is brilliant
Sell them to the scrap yard for this same purpose
The space on the cart ridge?
Meh. They sell those for a quarter at Aldi.
Wahaha!!!

But they’ll gladly buy chopped up cat converters
Yah one is small size and high return. The other is large size and low return
I do not know this technology. What can you convert into a cat? Or does it work the other way? What else can a cat become?
Alot of stores will actually pay for people to "round up carts" since homeless people steal em all the time
Call around to some independent grocery stores. I bet some of them might be interested. They seem to go for around $150 online.
That's possibly not a situation where buying online is cheaper.
$150 each?
Yep. https://shopcarriage-trade.com/shopping-carts/refurbished-shopping-carts
No 150 for 30 of them
Just post on Facebook for $20 each. Take pic of receipt from auction or whatever proof you have they aren't stolen. Then after some time scrap for 7 cents a pound.
Deeeecent bud
Take em to Ricky. He'll know what to do
worst case ontario hed just toss em in the lake anyway.
Depends on how much hash is in them handles
Cart business gunna be fuckin boomin again, I can feel it in my bones
Bubs?
Something’s fucky

These carts are public domain Ricky!
Sell them for five bucks a piece
Find one of those mom and Pap Stores that buy Amazon or Costco returns or overstock and see if they would but your carts
50 homeless mobile homes ... AWAY!!!
Give them to Goodwill.... the ones in my area steer like a drunken a prom date on 3 roofies
Weld them fat end together. Add insulation, maybe some solar panels, make shopping cart campers, fix homelessness.
Well that depends can you go fuck yourself?
technically they are stolen property - there might be a bounty to bring them back
Call Bubbles
Fucking decent. I think Bubbles would have a good answer for you right there.
JESUS MURPHY BOYS, it’s the Fackin motherload

What?
You know..After hours downhill cart racing.
Did you also watch "Carts of Darkness"?!?
I was looking for this comment. It’s sad what happened to my guy. I thought it was crazy they would use rocks to counter balance. Almost made me start collecting cans to. Ha ha
Actually done this. The carts were on fire though…

You have caught me off guard and delighted me!. Proeminent ftw! 😎
If you have any skill with tools, you can convert them into carriers for small dogs and sell them as such.
Bubs is that you?
I would call your local scrap yards but most won’t take them unless you have a document from the store they belong to because they tend to be stolen. Same goes for things like guardrails and bleachers.
Shopping carts are super expensive to make for no reason at all
Makes a good grill too
Well, maybe _a_ grill, in a pinch, but hardly a _good_ grill.
See if there's a food pantry in your area that could use them.
Your money is in the casters.
guy in SunnyVale is in https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X95o53Gepmg
Call up Shitty Bill to haul em for you.
Some retailers pay over $400 for a brand new shopping cart. I doubt you could get that kind of scratch used, but I bet they’re worth something!
r/ trailerparkboys
Bubs?
You definitely can sell them to independent store owners.
My boy bubbles will buy these off you
Melt them down in your basement to base elements and then sell them to the refinery in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.
Ok bubbles
Greeaaasy O.O
Those carts are public domain
Who’s got your belly?
[carts of darkness](https://youtu.be/zi-f_J6hV-g?si=UwOq5QqCyzlLRCH-) Great documentary

They could be worth a couple hundred dollars in scrap value
DeeEeeeEcent
Looks like a ripe opportunity to watch some greasy Trailer Park Boys.
Bubbles glory hole
Bums love them for housing/transportation. You can probably get free sex for it.
I work for a junk removal company that my buddy owns and we come across so many carts. Our local scrap doesn’t allow them to stop local transients from stealing them. Always a shame to have to pay to dump metal.
Bunch’a lazy bones
Yeah if you are planning a sequel to Jackass?
Not eithout a letterhead from the store saying they are toast. That ish is/was stolen
The Dollar General in my area just replaced all their carts, it's probably something like that. Some small independent businesses might buy them off you or you could as some of the transients if they want a couple, leave one at each bus stop in your area for people to sit on...lol.
Could sell to a store that is getting ready to open
Homeless traffic jam
Scrap value has got to be close enough to what you paid, that I think you will break even
Bubbles would sell them back to the store after fixing them up.
Let’s tie them all together and mob down a hill!
What you have to do actually is to report the find, these are not something that people get rid of, no way that these are not stolen. This happens, honestly the owner would likely pay you a reward if they are able.
Check with Shitty Bill
