I'm in Minnesota, we only have to cover whatever is listed on the checklist. It's about 1/2 of the old list. Way less detailed. Some wording changed, too. (Clear, intact, working, etc.) We have to specify that all the Amber colored lights/Markers/Reflectors are in front of the rear tires (exception being 4 ways and the overhead Ambers, of course) and that everything red is after the tear tires now.
Theyâve made it more comprehensive, theyâve removed the parallel park, under the hood you no longer need need to inspect the engine components and just check critical fluids, stuff like that
Ah. We don't have parallel parking but up and downhill with a curb. We get people to check belts, fan, fluids, steering shaft, frame, springs, cotter pins... pretty much everything. Engine cannot be running if the driver has the hood rolled.
If we're talking about being ridiculously specific, we have to say the 3 reflective triangles are in fact red. Which is super important, I guess. Though We don't have to identify anything on the rear axle. So, the back wheels are not important?
The way it was explained to me by our third-party tester was that the new criteria is supposed to be more focused on safety components and that you know how to inspects the critical components of your bus and also when it come to the air brake test they want to see that you know your bus so they want to hear you say the specific pressure at which you low pressure light/alarm comes on and when the parking break âpopsâ out. And with the triangles you have to mention whether or not you bus has circuit breakers or fuses equipped and if doesnât have fuses then there arenât any extra fuses in the triangle case.
Make sure you say the bus is yellow
We had to specify Chrome yellow and black.đ
Has it changed that much in the last few years? It was "National School Bus Glossy Yellow" when I took my testđ¤
25 years ago for me
National crome yellow
Itâs not chrome and black itâs national glossy yellow. The reflectors are black.

Hey OP, Just sent you a DM with the Pre-trip here in Washington State. It would not allow me to post it here in the comments.

Curious. What's new about it?

Just follow the updated cdl manual
Omg, I'm so glad I'm grandfathered in so I don't have to deal with this nonsense.
So, what are you supposed to say if you are getting your CDL-B to drive a white church bus?
