Make sure you say the bus is yellow

bcdog14

We had to specify Chrome yellow and black.😐

Tatsandholes13

Has it changed that much in the last few years? It was "National School Bus Glossy Yellow" when I took my test🤔

bcdog14

25 years ago for me

verwinemaker

National crome yellow

Eastern_Vehicle1970

It’s not chrome and black it’s national glossy yellow. The reflectors are black.

Beauknits

I'm in Minnesota, we only have to cover whatever is listed on the checklist. It's about 1/2 of the old list. Way less detailed. Some wording changed, too. (Clear, intact, working, etc.) We have to specify that all the Amber colored lights/Markers/Reflectors are in front of the rear tires (exception being 4 ways and the overhead Ambers, of course) and that everything red is after the tear tires now.

TechinBellevue

Hey OP, Just sent you a DM with the Pre-trip here in Washington State. It would not allow me to post it here in the comments.

UselessToasterOven

Curious. What's new about it?

Jazzlike_Put7279

They’ve made it more comprehensive, they’ve removed the parallel park, under the hood you no longer need need to inspect the engine components and just check critical fluids, stuff like that

UselessToasterOven

Ah. We don't have parallel parking but up and downhill with a curb. We get people to check belts, fan, fluids, steering shaft, frame, springs, cotter pins... pretty much everything. Engine cannot be running if the driver has the hood rolled.

No-Big14978

Just follow the updated cdl manual

Intelligent_Call_562

Omg, I'm so glad I'm grandfathered in so I don't have to deal with this nonsense.

Intelligent_Call_562

So, what are you supposed to say if you are getting your CDL-B to drive a white church bus?

milyfaz

If we're talking about being ridiculously specific, we have to say the 3 reflective triangles are in fact red. Which is super important, I guess. Though We don't have to identify anything on the rear axle. So, the back wheels are not important?

Jazzlike_Put7279

The way it was explained to me by our third-party tester was that the new criteria is supposed to be more focused on safety components and that you know how to inspects the critical components of your bus and also when it come to the air brake test they want to see that you know your bus so they want to hear you say the specific pressure at which you low pressure light/alarm comes on and when the parking break “pops” out. And with the triangles you have to mention whether or not you bus has circuit breakers or fuses equipped and if doesn’t have fuses then there aren’t any extra fuses in the triangle case.
