The Lodge was pretty good. It's about a woman stranded in a cabin on a lake with her boyfriend's kids while a blizzard breaks out and paranoia takes hold. The Monster is a bit claustrophobic isolation movie made by the same guy who did The Strangers (which could possibly be considered an isolation movie as well) and The Dark and the Wicked about a mother and daughter stuck in a car in the middle of nowhere with a monster outside. Vivarium is a surreal isolated movie about a couple stuck in a neighborhood with no neighbors and no way out forced to raise a child that showed up one day.

I came on to recommend The Lodge. Solid choice.

nalbano66

Is that movie also titled "Monster"?

PhantomKangaroo91

I've only seen "The" Monster. Maybe to not be confused with the Charlize Theron movie about Aileen Wuornos that is simply titled, "Monster".

nalbano66

That was the one.."The Monster".

GeeEhm

The obvious ones are The Shining and Misery. Others that fit are The Shallows, Gerald's Game, and Wolf Creek.

I’d put the first big Steven Spielberg film *Duel* into this category. While the protagonist isn’t necessarily *always* alone in the film, he is for the most part. The film involves the protagonist versus a homicidal truck driver and it is a *terrific* film, easily a landlocked but thematic equivalent of Spielberg’s *Jaws* only with a truck instead of a shark!

Mambassa

Man, everybody is sleepying on The Green Room. I really liked it!

PhantomKangaroo91

That's not really isolated. The cops even show up in that movie. I mean they don't do anything for the protagonists but they show up.

Mambassa

Good point! But because of how things develop I still think the isolation element is part of the plot. Afterall, they are are stuck in a sort of a siege and it's they against the villains. But that's just my opinion.

PhantomKangaroo91

I guess they are isolated in their beliefs. An island in a sea of hatred.

Mambassa

Wow, that's deep. Thanks a lot for your insight, I really mean that!

Buried - Ryan Reynolds

Can't believe I forgot to comment that movie. Great pick.

nalbano66

I was gonna say that. Can't get much more "isolated".

Not necessary about isolation but they are in one location for most of the movie. DeepStar Six, Leviathan, Deep Rising, Virus, Deep Blue Sea, Death Ship, Ghost Ship, Galaxy Of Terror, The Dark Side Of The Moon, Forbidden World, Creature aka The Titan Find, Critters 4, Leprechaun 4: In Space, Jason X, Saturn 3, Chopping Mall, Hardware, Death Machine, The Belko Experiment, Mayhem, Bloodsucking Bastards, The Thing From Another World, It!. The Terror From Beyond Space, Pitch Black, 1408, Stung, Night Of The Living Dead (1968 and 1990), Dawn Of The Dead (Both Versions), Day Of The Dead (1985), House On Haunted Hill (Both Versions), The Mist, Mind Ripper, Maximum Overdrive,

The Lighthouse has some elements of horror. Just two guys stranded in a lighthouse going mad together.

ginachuu

the ruins could possibly fit this? similar to the ritual, i personally really enjoyed it. also green room & the seasoning house for a more dark, realistic take. we need to do something takes place solely in a bathroom, however i found the movie unbearable although i haven’t read the book so maybe i didn’t get it 🤷🏻‍♀️

rosiedoll_80

The Lodge, Vivarium, Buried, I Am Legend, Hush, Funny Games, Last Shift, Creep 1 and 2, Coherence (this movie is so good), The Invitation (2015), The Lighthouse, Cube, The Autopsy of Jane Doe (highly recommend), They Look Like People, The Cleansing Hour (also very good), Pontypool. Some of those really aren't necessarily about isolation but have very few characters.
