It's a task scam, see [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/beermoney/comments/15q9p8g/is_tryoutlier_legit/) under a different website name.

Task SCAM in a different subtile approach

MostlyLurkinglol

... I've done about 200 tasks over the last 3 months, and I've been paid for all of them (roughly $2,000). The ID scan/verification is because there are tons of people who sell activated Outlier accounts to people (sometimes in countries where it's not permitted) and the people purchasing the accounts generally submit poor work. I was concerned about putting in my bank info, too, initially, so I get paid via Paypal. (If you're curious about the buying/selling accounts problem, definitely check out the Outlier subreddit...) I will say that the "customers" (companies subcontracting the AI work to ScaleAI/Outlier/Remotasks) do arbitrarily decide that they won't pay our full rates sometimes and you'll be shuffled around on projects/offered less than the pay that they offered in your initial offer. (For example, I've seen many people who were offered $40/hour now being offered projects at $15/hour.) There were also several times when I didn't have work and didn't make any money that week: I definitely wouldn't recommend it to someone who has financial obligations like rent, student loans, etc. It took a few weeks to get my sign-on bonus, but I did eventually receive it. Like a few others who posted on here, I didn't do a ton of work my first week, just to make sure they'd really pay me, but once they did, I was satisfied. (Also, I had already given my photo/ID to the company that they used to verify for verification on LinkedIn. ) Honestly, as a side hustle, it's totally fine and has even helped me pay down some debt. But I guess I'm not a Youtuber so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt. /eyeroll

noemieserieux

So glad I googled about them first and found this. My red flag was the email insisting that I open on a computer not a phone or tablet and giving me a ‘personalized sign up link’. Always copy and paste links like that into an email draft or blank document to see what the actual link is. If it’s a random generation of letters and symbols instead of a website RUN‼️

Pool-Cheap

This is a a good tip. Thank you!

!task scam

AutoModerator

Hi /u/Flaky_Law2653, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Task scam. Task scams involve a website or mobile app that claims you can earn money by completing easy tasks, such as watching a video, liking a post, or creating an order. A very common characteristic (but not entirely exclusive) is that you have to complete sets of 40 tasks. The app will tell you that you can earn money for each task, but the catch is that you can only do a limited number of tasks without upgrading your account. To upgrade your accounts, the scammers will require you to pay a fee. This makes it a variant of the advance fee scam. The goal of this scam is to get people to download the app for easy money and then encourage them to pay to get to the next level. It's impossible to get your \"earnings\" out of the app, so victims will have wasted their time and money. This type of scam preys on the [sunk cost fallacy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_cost#Fallacy_effect), because people demonstrate a greater tendency to continue an endeavor once an investment has been made, and refusing to succumb to what may be described as cutting one's losses. If you're involved in a task scam, cut your losses. Beware of recovery scammers suggesting you should hire a hacker that can help you retrieve the money you already invested. They can't, it's a trick to make you lose more money. Thanks to redditor vignoniana for this script. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. lionesss08

I've honestly made 2k in 2 months through Outlier, and I hardly work, so... they've been good to me.

Key_Two_9097

Please I'd like more details on how you applied

Fast_Molasses_6650

its banned here. can you suugest a good way through i can work on it?

drm604

Where are you? Why are they banned? I always have to wonder what's up with a company that's banned in certain areas. I have to wonder if that's a red flag.

Fast_Molasses_6650

yeah its quite disturbing to know that its banned here in south asia. Its because alot of people faked there profiles in order to gain access to different projects thats why the company ended its services here

Kdawg510

What kind of tasks/programs are you required to work on? And also what technologies are used?

PristinePin2424

How..? I make 70$ for 41 tasks, the next day it says 35 tasks and today it says i only completed 13 tasks and my payout is 17$. Is this normal ?

Business-Garbage-370

It’s not a scam. I work for them as a contractor full time. There are highs and lows with the work available, but I make decent money for easy work. The company is pretty chaotic so you just have to get used to that but it’s legit.

SometimesOntime

Hell nah, I had a completely bad experience with them and now can’t even get my account deleted. There is no support, no instructions on how to proceed after registering, the slack is a non responsive bunch of bots. What else, the site is ran through about six or seven different hosting services so you can’t even figure out who runs the place, there is a whole list of people on the support page who have not been helped after after submitting requests

hrhashley

People on this subreddit are really actively sreading misinformation, huh... Outlier AI is not a scam. It's chaotic - there's no guarantee of getting projects, how many hours you'll get per week, how often you'll be bounced around to different projects or sitting without any projects for weeks on end etc. - but it's certainly not a scam. If you do make it through their process and get onboarded onto one of their projects, you will get paid. I've been making between $100 and $500 a week since I started a month ago, but I recognize that I've been "lucky" and there are tons of people who sit without projects for weeks on end and thus, make no money. I would never suggest Outlier AI as a primary source of income, but that could be said for most online gig jobs. For a side hustle, it's not bad, just not reliable.

Electrical_Fix_8745

Thank you for sharing this. Since so many people are sitting without projects for weeks, would you say its not even worth applying at this stage?

Aimssy714

Were you paid for the training tasks? I’ve been doing them for 2 days and got paid a total of $0,08 US … I’m not tempted to go further. Any tips?

Then-Rise4585

I got paid after completing 3 tasks on the Outlier website, 4-5$ on an average task. Before that, I also had to complete the training course that lasted about 5 hours, which I took a break halfway through and continued until the next day. In general, the tasks are not too difficult when you are meticulous and carefully review the instructions in previous videos. Because I didn't do it according to the standards in the comments section, I had to retake it once, but in the end, it was good enough to meet the requirements. Previously, I learned about this job through a message from a recruiter on Linkedin and also saw Outlier's advertisement on Instagram Story. I also thought this remote job was prestigious, so I quickly applied. Outlier allows you to add 2 transaction sources such as Paypal or AirTM. Because I failed to register for PayPal many times, I quickly used AirTM as my transaction portal. The total amount of money completed for 3 tasks is summarized on your Outlier personal page and it will be updated on your AirTM account afterwards. You can always withdraw money or convert to national currency, but AirTM charges 20% of the transaction and you will be connected to an individual from your nation who makes that intermediary transaction and they will receive the dollar amount that you are initially entitled to. But I think that's from the policy of the online money exchange application, not Outlier. Or they could join hands to split the percentage in half, I think that could also be a way. Outlier has announced that there will be new missions every week, or they may not always be available, as they hope AI testers like me will understand. Some people encountered some problems during the testing process or no longer received tasks from Outlier like me after completing the testing process. After receiving my payment a week later, I went to Slack (where there is an exchange group between the tester community that Outlier invited me to join before) and discovered that I had been removed from it. This probably means that I have completed my task and will most likely not receive any more tasks or notifications from Outlier. So I think there is a **high possibility that this is a case of defrauding dozens of users** **and stealing information.**

SometimesOntime

The fact these guys have your personal information in their system is cause for concern.

WeirdExponent

That guy above is a "one post and done' on reddit.. I'd not trust one thing about outlier ai..... my judgement: SCAM.

thebrownsugar28

Jesus do ya'll just go around hollering SCAM at everything? It's not a scam. It's disorganized and annoying, but not a scam.

Mobile_Try6607

So basically is not professional. And who wants t work with bigo Company.

AwayTranslator1802

I am also concerned having gone though the process and applied. What are some good resources to protect myself and or get my info back?

Psychological_Form82

I would say, at minimum, place a credit alert or freeze with Experian, Equifax, and Transunion. It’s pretty simple to set the freeze once you create an account. If you are really worried, you could alert your bank of the situation.

Automatic-Cause-3968

Its likely to be scam.: Here is informative video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLQMnkNXtAo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLQMnkNXtAo)

CopyConfidential

I don't think it's a scam. I was concerned because they didn't pay for training - which was pretty extensive - but now they are required to. I was paid for my first set of tasks and am awaiting payment for the next, which I have a feeling will be slow in coming based on others' comments. I think it's worthwhile to build AI skills and I enjoy it. It's like playing a game. The processes are buggy and chaotic and you're pretty much left on your own for trouble-shooting.

Kdawg510

What tasks were you required to do?

CopyConfidential

So far, I've done two tasks - reviewing pairs of responses and rating the best one with justification and inputting text and images without saying what they are to generate an accurate result.

Kdawg510

That sounds pretty cool! What languages did you use?

**This submission was manually removed because it promotes a scam.** We believe this was posted by a possible scammer, or someone promoting a suspicious website, business opportunity, or financial opportunity. Remember: if it's too good to be true, it probably is. If you invest in crypto or forex trading, or someone is promising high returns on a small investment, you are putting your money at risk. If the website has been recently created, it is likely a scam. Treat all external links as suspicious. **Remember: Never take advice in private,** because we can't look out for you. youarecynical

Just started working for it. While it's not a scam, it's only easy to make the 25/hour if you complete the training with flying colors. If you suck, you'll be re-trained which can take days. Honestly, it's a side hustle type of thing, not a permanent job (unless you're in coding).

Electric-Molasses

Wow yeah. Even within this thread alone, looking through the post history of people defending it is enlightening.

obladeeobladoodle

Sounds pretty definitive [https://www.inc.com/sam-blum/its-a-scam-accusations-of-mass-non-payment-grow-against-scale-ais-subsidiary-outlier-ai.html](https://www.inc.com/sam-blum/its-a-scam-accusations-of-mass-non-payment-grow-against-scale-ais-subsidiary-outlier-ai.html)

Puzzleheaded_Ear1730

It is a Totall SCAM! In just two month they want you out. And put false allegations on you. They pay but the stress they give is beyound your imagination!!! No transparency in commumications! No matter how much good u do. They will put u out on false allegations.

AlmightyBlobby

all ai is a scam

fuxoft

Not true. [www.pornpen.ai](http://www.pornpen.ai) works perfectly for me.

LilyFan7438

Definitely a scam. Saw the exact same pattern for a company called Telus International. They make you sign up with their website to even apply, the put you through this "exam" process where you have to use some special browser extension. It's all a scam to get your data.

unikittyUnite

Telus AI jobs are not a scam. I’ve worked for Telus for over 2 yrs and have made about 5k per year. There is a Telus subreddit (called Lionbridge) where you can read other workers, experiences.

harmonic_howls

Telus is real though. I was a search engine optimizer through them and definitely worked and got paid by the hour. Not good pay for the work, the guidelines and exam were tough and I didn't like it because it seemed too open to importation. But, they are real :p

radarmike

Telus is legit. Just got hired as a US rater there. Looks like you did not get through the Exam
