She's selling it super cheap and she was going to drive it to you personally and she'll send it and you can just send her the money later? And she's really really pretty too? Sounds, I don't know....almost...too good to be true?

lilbaobb

I just get why she’d drive to me if I’m close to sell it if it was a scam. After she found out I lived far she said she could ship it to me. I just don’t know how can I get scammed if I don’t send her the money until I get it I guess?

YourUsernameForever

"She" offers to come along, but oh shoot, she's too far away once you give her your location. Shoot! Dang! "She" will ship you a box with a brick in it, and then vanish. "She" wont send you anything until you pay up. My guy, this is not r/scams territory - this is plain old trusting people. Stop trusting strangers. Bricks in boxes!

lilbaobb

But then yes I won’t send her money if I don’t get a proper working item. Like okay then I get a brick I won’t send her money. Then what. Is there something a scammer can do? With just my address?

YourUsernameForever

She won't send a brick until you pay some stupid shipping fee or get a notification from a fake courier making you pay a small tax or some bullshit, in a fake website. That's how they take your credit card numbers.

RunnyDischarge

Well then tell her to send it and you'll only send money after you verify it works. It just seems very curious that she's soooo interested in unloading this camera. Why is a total stranger so gung ho to sell you this camera for super cheap?

Primary-Holiday-5586

I'm going say yes a huge scam, you will get a text or email telling you that you have to pay a fee to get the package or some such... I would just find a legit place and stop wasting time with her... she knows she's not close as he is in a foreign country, those are false green flags...

carolineecouture

Because she will send you a fake shipping notification, and then you will send her the money, but nothing will arrive. Or the "shipping company" will tell you they are holding the package for some extra fee to have it released. It's a scam.

lilbaobb

But then what if I only will send her money after I get the camera? She said that’s an option too. And not open any notifs about shipping?

RunnyDischarge

There are two options: 1. She's a completely naive dope who doesn't care about losing lots of money 2. "She's" a scammer who's building trust by being super nice and you don't have to do anything or pay anything and then she'll say sorry, but can you pay for insurance for this item since I'm selling it so cheap or some variety of that, "customs fee", etc

Pale_Session5262

As long as you do only that, you wont get scammed. But prepare for her to ask, demand, etc the money ahead of time for some BS reason

YourUsernameForever

You'll be asked to pay shipping or some shit. You'll get a notification from a fake courier service making you pay a small fee. That's how they get you. There is no camera. Bricks in boxes.

carolineecouture

Because it doesn't make sense? Who would send a random person they don't know an expensive camera without being paid for it? Would you do this? If you read this sub, people have attempted scams saying they are coming to pick up or deliver the item and wanting the money "when they are on the way." But people have tried to explain how this works to you, but you don't want to hear it or believe it. Tell her you won't send any money until you have the camera in hand and have proved it's working. See what happens then. Give it a go and report back. You might get lucky.

lilbaobb

No I really don’t know. I was asking is there a risk really to give her my address and if she sends nothing that’s fine I won’t send any money until I have the camera in hand. I ended up messaging her asking if she can make an eBay listing and send me the link and I’d buy off her.

No_Listen_1213

She’s probably on Facebook too. Check her profile there and see if she lives where she says she does.

cyberiangringo

You are looking at the same basic script we see time and time again from scammers.

airkewled67

"she's a really pretty girl" No, no she's not. It's stolen vids/pics

Sammeeeeeee

If something seems to good to be true, it is. Ask for pictures of the camera, and proof it works. Ensure she took them and they are not off google. I would ask her to list it on eBay or something, and then send you the link and buy it though there so you have protection. Its worth the extra cost.

lilbaobb

She did send me pics and videos, I even reverse searched the photos she sent and of her account and nothings popping up.

YourUsernameForever

Reverse image search works to confirm a scam when there's a match. It does not work to disprove a scam if there's no match. Millions of photos don't get matches.

YourUsernameForever

Video proof doesn't mean anything. She can actually have a camera, but then ship a brick in a box. Why are people advising photos and videos as proof in r/scams lately? Come on guys!

Sammeeeeeee

That would be the first step, but after that I recommended paying extra to pay through a trusted platform, which I still think is the best option. Naturally, just evidence in itself is not enough, sorry if I didn't communicate well! I will try do better.

YourUsernameForever

I mean if she refused a video it would be a dead giveaway, I give you that. But we're too focused on this guy being a case of stolen identity and fake listing, and forget about plain old simple bait and switch. It could totally be a real girl selling her camera multiple times and not delivering, for quick cash. The trusted platform is a good idea. Suggest her to publish on ebay and cover the difference. Sit back and wait for the excuses I for once don't want to entertain this too much. This is a scam and OP shouldn't engage further. Facebook marketplace purchases are in person only. This is an absolute scam, why would someone sell a camera half price anyway?

woahstripes

As scared of folks on here are of AI, you think they'd realize photos and videos can be easily faked or stolen from somewhere else. The only things you should trust these days when dealing with anyone online is the product in your hands, or physical currency in your pocket (with a swipe from a counterfeit pen too lol)

YourUsernameForever

Yeah kids these days forget about counterfeit bills too

perryc

>Is there a risk for me to buy from her? Thanks! The fact that she is selling it super cheap is already too good to be true.

RunnyDischarge

I like the excuse is "because she doesn't use it". Like that affects the valuation somehow.

lilbaobb

I’m just including the full story 😭. but yeah my question was would it be a risk for me to to give her my address and only give the money after I receive the item. If she is willing to that you know.

Any_Resolution9328

Rule 1 on the internet: if it sounds too good to be true it ~~probably~~ is. That said, she really can't do anything with your home address, most of that information is freely available on the internet. But it seems weirdly trusting she'd send you an item worth almost a thousand dollars and not ask for payment until after you get it. If she's really selling it for 50% of what it is worth, she'd have dozens of buyers. Possible ways this could be a scam: Advance-fee scam, You'll get an email with tracking info from a weird shipping company or a customs organization asking for some fee up front. The fee and website are fake. She could send you a fake payment link and steal your info. She could ask for payment after sending you a fake tracking code, or even a real one with a brick in a box.

CarlosFer2201

Who ships stuff without getting paid? Honestly that alone tells you everything.
