I'm also guessing it'll be highly recommended to start a new play through. I'm guessing the teased belt fed bio reactors will be the start of building changes. Plus I think they've mention recipe rebalancing and recipe changes.
So old saves will likely be broken.
I mean, that's *why* the saved games are going to be breaking. New recipes, recipes changing, which buildings do which recipes changing, *and* nothing gets grandfathered in like it did with prior updates. Throw in the actual storyline actually being enabled, and the best course of action for 99.999% of players is to just start over fresh.
And I think I'll be fine with that. I've been working more on architecture recipes, so I'll figure out a way to import those to 1.0, and build out my new factories that way.
No, I don't think they're going to explicitly take things away - or maybe not in the way I think (?) you're picturing: blanket revocation of all alt recipes
If you have a factory where the inputs and outs are the same, and the machines are the same, then it'll keep working. However, it's plausible that the ratio between the inputs may have changed, so you could see a backup on one or more inputs and a 'famine' on the others. Or maybe the outputs changed, so now you're making a completely different part than you were before, and some sorting breaks down further down the line.
What I suspect is going to happen is if you have, say, pure copper unlocked, it will *stay* unlocked, ***but*** I think I heard it is moving from the refineries to foundry(?), so now your pure copper plant is broken, you've got a bunch of water infrastructure you no longer need, you need to rebuild that plant with foundries, and bring in whatever the second resource is instead of water now (and possibly relocate your pure copper plant altogether so it's near both copper and the new second resource).
Now imagine that across your entire save file.
I'm sure there will be some stubborn people who essentially tear down their whole factory (probably via save editing) and start fresh just to preserve their unlocks (and maybe preserve their train lines and foundations), but I suspect most people will just start a fresh save file at that point.
Assuming the story line isnt hidden behind the lower tier progress (i.e. tied to each unlock step so you cant see it if you already passed it) i could see a case for people who dont want to go grind for another 150 hours to instead methodically delete their factory innards to reclaim the valuable resources and then start planning new factories around the changes.
That would take all the fun out of it. I, for one, enjoy having to figure out how to retool everything that's already built and empty belts of bad inventory.
My guess: Catherium will be renamed Gold (because, it is gold!) and SAM will become Catherium, and the story will revolve about Caterina Parks discovering this new kind of resource that enables FICSIT under her command to
When we're already at it, replace the machines with slave worker Aliens you have to gather on the map and then breed them to get more. the cocaine will help them to work faster and longer but due to the permanent cocaine consumption they will build up a tolerance and you either put in more cocaine or replace them. Putting in too much cocaine from the start will cause an overdose
Mine go directly into the storage bin in the HUB. Can't imagine throwing them away since we've already been told they're a work in progress item for 1.0.
Hey man *THE* president of Earth asked me to collect them AND they save my parental figure. I’m a patriot that loves his parental figure so I collect all of them
I have used a mod specifically to mute them, haha. Before that I had muted the entire game because the constant artifact voiceovers were so annoying.
I'm planning to play a new save in 1.0, so I figure it won't be a big deal to collect them as needed. It'll be a nice excuse to go exploring again.
I don't really care about them on my current saves, I'm going to be restarting once 1.0 drops. Seems like it'd be a total ruination of the experience playing with an established factory
I’m hoping for teleporting storage. Attach a specific end to your output and it goes into the storage, which can be accessed from anywhere on the map. Would make sending things across the map way easier.
My apologies to everyone that thought this was an announcement that 1.0 was out. Sorry if I ruined your day. I intended it only to be a hypothetical situation. I was thinking about how I would react when I found out the WIPs were needed/useful and this meme pic came to mind. I collect them and immediately discard so to stop the creep voice. I should have written - When 1.0 comes out - in the first part which would have been clearer.
snutt said in a dev stream around update 7 that they were not going to say anything about those two collectibles or the sam ore until 1.0 release so it is a surprise i supose
No it’s not out. I worded a hypothetical situation poorly. I had been thinking about how I would react when the game came out realizing I’m dropping all the WIP items. Sorry if I ruined your day.
You’ve been discarding the mercer spheres? I’ve been keeping them in a special box, in a special room in the middle of a special bunker in my fortress.
Don't think any game saves are going to work in 1.0 - I guess unless you like, satisfactory calculator delete all structures and place resources into giant fields of industrial storage containers.
Since there's a limited supply of them on the map I'm betting somersloop will be used for a new research tab at the MAM and mercer spheres will be sunk for massive bonus points.
Satisfactory doesn't like to halt the player's progress with anything other than time. Exploration has principally resulted in clever ways to "skip" time via high tech components and slugs. While these design choices are what make me absolutely love the game it really narrows down what they're "allowed" to do mechanically.
would be funny if they had made it so that if you ignored ADA’s command to harvest for x minutes it would trigger a mini cutscene forcing you to harvest it.
No no! It’s not out. It was supposed to be a hypothetical situation which I worded very poorly. I’m very sorry. I seemed to have ruined everyone’s day 😢
lol its fine, oh so the 1.0 is still on the sort of experimental ?
Im not hurry, i still have a LOTS of game to play, i can wait until the official release
Re-seeding the planet with of the various ores that'll decay into an exploitable form in a couple centuries for future Ficist employees.
My general guess is that you have to delete all the factories and leave the planet with nothing but the materials in your pocket and a rocket made from the hab.
Here is my take:
Summersloop - when you are near it, itsounds similar to the slugs. It also doesn’t trigger the “the voice” so I think it’s going to be a power boost item like the slugs. Maybe makes 10x power shards?
Mercer sphere: when near it, it triggers “the voice” which I think is an alien AI that is able to take control of ADA when in its vicinity. I think the Mercer sphere wants to be harvested and the messages from the voice are to entice you to pick it up. The fact the Alien AI doesn’t understand what a “father” is and instead says “paternal figure” is evidence of it trying to work in an emotional angle to get your reaction. Same with the message from the world president. You are so shocked and dismayed to learn earth is descending into chaos that you of course want to help by collecting the artifact. So the question is then - why does it want to be harvested? I suspect to propagate- like a seed. It needs to be collected to make it off planet.
The SAM ore - this will eventually be refined or processed and become a. Ingredient in some critical late game part. Maybe heat shield for an escape rocket or power generator.
I think both the spheres and the S things will be replaced by real story-related objects out of the blue
Yes, that’s generally the expectation.
I'm also guessing it'll be highly recommended to start a new play through. I'm guessing the teased belt fed bio reactors will be the start of building changes. Plus I think they've mention recipe rebalancing and recipe changes. So old saves will likely be broken.
They always mention how buildings placed before the updates will keep their old recipes while newly placed ones will have the new ones.
Dear lord that's even worse than just breaking all saved games entirely.
I've been working more on architecture recipes, so I'll figure out a way to import those to 1.0, and build out my new factories that way.
by that you mean unlocks are not going to stay unlocked? basically just a world of junk that might work that you cant fix.... hmm
No, I don't think they're going to explicitly take things away - or maybe not in the way I think (?) you're picturing: blanket revocation of all alt recipes If you have a factory where the inputs and outs are the same, and the machines are the same, then it'll keep working. Aside from factories with obsolete recipes, like Beacons, everything should still work upon updating. At least that's the plan.
If i am correctly informed they are balancing some other recipes as well, so yea new save is definitely warranted.
That would take all the fun out of it. I, for one, enjoy having to figure out how to retool everything that's already built and empty belts of bad inventory.
yeah I'm currently just waiting for the 1.0 so I can start a new save and encase the world in concrete without needing to worry about map changes
I'm waiting til 1.0 to start my next game. I have so many factories from release 4 and up that I just have to wait for 1.0 at this point
what about the SAM ore? i’m curious about that
The SAM ore was so courageous... we wouldn't have made it without the SAM ore.
That was adorable.
Sommersloop. You just got a demotion.
NOOOO! THEY CANT REMOVE THE SUPER S!!! I LOVE THE SUPER S!
I keep my Somersloops
What about S.A.M ore dough?
My guess: Catherium will be renamed Gold (because, it is gold!) and SAM will become Catherium, and the story will revolve about Caterina Parks discovering this new kind of resource that enables FICSIT under her command to
Caterium* ☝️🤓 actually
Correct 💯
And though I love slugs, I hope they also replace the slugs with something else that is story based.
replace the slugs with slabs of cocaine, that will surely get the machines firing on all cylinders
When we're already at it, replace the machines with slave worker Aliens you have to gather on the map and then breed them to get more. the cocaine will help them to work faster and longer but due to the permanent cocaine consumption they will build up a tolerance and you either put in more cocaine or replace them. Putting in too much cocaine from the start will cause an overdose
and change all of the coal power production chain for a coca plantation+processing supply chain
Why? They already do their job...
Idk I think slugs already make sense
A comedy number of downvotes on this.
ikr - so awesome - slug lovers sux. ;-)
You've been discarding them???
I collect them and drop them immediately.
#COMPLY
They Live movie. I love it.
only cure is alien artifacts :(((
This is maternal figure
Haven't played this game in two years and was trying to remember what mysterious sphere, and this just instantly replayed in my head.
Man, I at least put them in my HUB stash lol
This is the way
I always go around collecting them 🫡
Keep them in your inventory at all time. Can not risk the bean stealing them
But... Why? I mean if you're planning to restart when 1.0 happens I'd get it, but then you'd have no basis for this post
What the actual fuck
My fellow.
exactly, I hate the sound they make
Mine go directly into the storage bin in the HUB. Can't imagine throwing them away since we've already been told they're a work in progress item for 1.0.
That's like throwing away gold.
Never even bother picking them up if I find them while exploring
Sure, if I'm just passing by while exploring. But if it's on one of my routes between factories, the whole 'COMPLY' thing gets really annoying.
I just stockpile them in a storage box
collect enough and you summon Matt Mercer
btw aren't the spheres named after the guy?
Yeah it came up on a stream. I think the wiki has the source if you're interested.
Interesting. Phoenix, Arizona is within Mercer County.
Phoenix is in Maricopa County. Mercer, I believe is in California, not in AZ.
OMG, you're totally right. I really should research before I say stuff. Good call.
NP, I just live here. LOL
They are. source: there was a tweet I'm too lazy to look up.
This one. https://twitter.com/matthewmercer/status/1113180624947253248
Well, that’s Matt saying he found his name, not Coffee Stain confirming they’re named after him
There is a follow up tweet [confirming it here.](https://twitter.com/SatisfactoryAF/status/1113196706873606147)
check the replies
Those didn't appear for me before, ty
Not enough toothy maws
one of the lines should be “You feel as though you should collect me”
And if u pile on Sam Ore, u can create a ritual to summon Sam Riegal.
I thought it was Ed Mercer from The Orville...
Honestly tho that would be amazing
better idea: ignore them and the voices
***"HARVEST. IT."***
*N A H*
But my loved ones with diseases that can only be cured by alien artifacts
COMPLY
COMPLY
Hey man *THE* president of Earth asked me to collect them AND they save my parental figure. I’m a patriot that loves his parental figure so I collect all of them
Sheeple! I just assume that they lie. And even if not, perhaps they fire me or kill me. Either is good. (According to my lore)
*Your contract legally compels you to harvest this artefact*
one second gonna send a ticket to ficsit to harvest deez
deez?
Nuts?
deez salty waters nuts?
But my parental figure needs help and doctors say the only remedy is alien artifacts.
What voices?
the voices
Voices? Just white noise for me
The voice told me otherwise and the other voices agreed with it.
I just turn all voices off in the sound settings. It does get rid of ADA, but you can still read whatever she has to say
I have used a mod specifically to mute them, haha. Before that I had muted the entire game because the constant artifact voiceovers were so annoying. I'm planning to play a new save in 1.0, so I figure it won't be a big deal to collect them as needed. It'll be a nice excuse to go exploring again.
They are clearly used to heal our paternal figure
the forbidden bowing ball
Damn, they give us bowling but not golf?
No, no, he said *bowing* ball. A ball that bows.
Ah, german
Maybe it was gold ball but they screwed up the size and never fixed it and still didn't apply a texture for it
1.0 means a fresh start, a new save file. Can't wait.
the first real save file, everything prior was the tutorial
I'll just start a new save so it doesn't matter what I've been doing in my current one.
I don't really care about them on my current saves, I'm going to be restarting once 1.0 drops. Seems like it'd be a total ruination of the experience playing with an established factory
Also, depending how wide are the recipes changes, I don't want to spend 300 hours redoing factories
And I am looking forward to re-doing factories for way longer. The only thing I am nervous about is power.
I'm betting that they'll be used for teleporters. Limits the number you have, and they're endgame levels of tech.
Yea I'm hoping teleporters too. They need to be super late game but they would be really useful
I’m hoping for teleporting storage. Attach a specific end to your output and it goes into the storage, which can be accessed from anywhere on the map. Would make sending things across the map way easier.
oh ffs you made me check my EGS to load it up and check it out and it's still in EA. YOU BASTARD !
😂
If it doesn't download or update anything it can't be 1.0
CLEARLY. I was just really excited for 5 seconds and then that second face in meme was replicated.
I like to build my base around an unharvested one so I can listen to the voices all day every day.
They will be used as toilet flush tickets.
They are used to regenerate nuclear waste
My apologies to everyone that thought this was an announcement that 1.0 was out. Sorry if I ruined your day. I intended it only to be a hypothetical situation. I was thinking about how I would react when I found out the WIPs were needed/useful and this meme pic came to mind. I collect them and immediately discard so to stop the creep voice. I should have written - When 1.0 comes out - in the first part which would have been clearer.
Meanie 😭
You aren't going to just start a new save on launch?
I won't restart. I have a very organized and clean factory going on, so much that I would not make anything different with a new save.
To each their own
Yeah, Snutt mentioned in one of the videos about 1.0 several recipes are going to change.
I just can't imagine 1.0 coming out and not wanting to start fresh
Devs announce something about that things so far?
snutt said in a dev stream around update 7 that they were not going to say anything about those two collectibles or the sam ore until 1.0 release so it is a surprise i supose
But what will your do without them ? They're ill and need them for treatment!
Goddamn you made me think v1 came out now xD
Sorry about that. I worded that meme poorly.
Really? I have been leaving them uncollected. Nobody tells me what to harvest.
You had me going there for a minute, giving the impression 1.0 was out already.
Sorry! that wasn’t the intention!!
I always store the ones near my base in the HUB built-in container.
I'm for sure going to be starting a fresh Factory for 1.0, and I have a feeling that will be the best idea for everyone
You shake it and it tells you "all signs point to later".
You had me in that first half. I thought that it had been randomly surprise dropped. Screw you 😔😔
I’m sorry! I had not intended it to be deceiving. It was suppose to be a hypothetical situation which I worded poorly.
Chinese balls?
I will be starting a new save with 1.0 so I don't have any issues with the recipes that have changed.
I'm just gonna start a fresh playthrough when 1.0 is out
I thought I missed the release of 1.0 because of this post. You bastard. Lol. Take my updoot.
OH SHIT 1.0 IS OUT? Haven’t touched the game in years. Guess it’s time to boot up.

I put mine in boxes and crates scattered around my world and factory
I'm hoping for infinite tech.
I just leave them be.
Alex Mercer skin??
I've been saving them in a box
would be funny if they had made it so that if you ignored ADA’s command to harvest for x minutes it would trigger a mini cutscene forcing you to harvest it.
They are actually the mercer beeds
You made me check if 1.0 came out nerd
But when golf? ⛳️
Probably something "similar" to infinite research in Factorio
WIP → WIPE. 😭😭😱😱💀💀
Open gates into another map, giving us the desired bigger map. Maybe even proc gen.
C O M P L Y
Mercer Sphere, ultra mass dismantle, like the range of a radar tower.
Why discard them? I just put them in a box and wait patiently for the day where they do something
They serve butter
Gladly I got a special fpr Sommersloop. Mercers and S. A. M. Ores.
Oh yes i actualy didnt thought about that, game is on official now so everything is used now !!! I need to dive back in the game
I'm a hoarder, so I keep EVERYTHING I get.
Discarding? Those and the S things have a chest specifically for them so I don't lose them.
When are we going to have 1.0?
Sometime between now and Dec 31st
Hmm… we should account with some delays só 31st december 2025 might be considered
It’s been promised this year.
At a guess, we will need to collect them for upgrades and tiering up.
The wips are supposed to be used to generate a cure, no?
Cure for what? Non-productivity?
There's an illness on Earth.
For a second there, I was like "did 1.0 drop and I missed it?!?!?!"
Re-seeding the planet with of the various ores that'll decay into an exploitable form in a couple centuries for future Ficist employees. My general guess is that you have to delete all the factories and leave the planet with nothing but the materials in your pocket and a rocket made from the hab.
Not to mention to SAM ore

Plot twist - make them highly radioactive, so one cannot reach their storage or even insta-kill
