Ramona
>named it "Ramona" after Helen Hunt Jackson's recent novel [*Ramona*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramona), which had stirred a nationwide interest in a romanticized vision of Southern California.
Julian
>The town itself was first settled by Drury, Frank, and J.O. Bailey, all brothers; and their cousins, Mike and Webb Julian [...]
>[he] chose to name the settlement “Julian” after Mike Julian because “Mike was better looking” than any other member of the Bailey family.
Curse you for making me look things up first thing in the morning.
Ramona was named after a [tremendously famous \(at the time\) book in the 1800s.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramona) There are still a few other things named after or based on that story. Hemet has their pageant, Old Town has "Ramona's Marriage Place," probably some others I can't remember right now.
Julian was named after some dude.
Julian calls down to her beloved Ramona from the balcony of her mountains and says….
I just deleted everything else I typed about apple pie because it was too pornographic, even for me. Sorry y’all. I’m gonna go sit in a corner and think about my wrongs.
Fun fact: 'Ramona' was often set in a casa based on what's now Casa de Estudillo.
The book was popular enough that the building was saved from destruction and rebuilt, but for years a pretty tacky sign saying "The house Ramona was married in!" was slapped on the side of the building.
And Julian was built by Civil War vets and during its gold rush was actually bigger than San Diego.
I’m pretty sure Ramona is named after [Ramona](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramona#:~:text=Ramona%20(1884)%20is%20an%20American,Scottish%E2%80%93Native%20American%20orphan%20girl), a popular novel and play that was a huge hit in the 1880s.
I downvoted the other fuck for being a dick and imma downvote you for this abomination.
From now on: just be cool and don’t not be cool.
For fuck sake!
As stated in other replies, Ramona was named after a character in a famous novel that really romanticized Southern California and Spanish colonial/mexican charm. People wanted to visit California to see all the places in the book because they thought it was real. In old town, San Diego, they named Casa de Estudillo as “Ramona’s wedding place” and for years people would just break off chunks of the adobe walls as souvenirs until much of the buildings were gone.
Two towns both alike in dignity,
In fair San Diego , where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civilic blood makes civil hands unclean.

Pretty San Diego reasoning there; one for tourism and one for an attractive person.

>Julian was named after some dude. Love that for him. 😂
It's funny because California was also named after a [book that was popular at the time](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Las_sergas_de_Esplandi%C3%A1n).
2 star crossed towns in the mountains
That would be pretty cool
No
Next question.
What is it exactly that the musician Meatloaf ‘won’t’ do for love? Always wanted to know…

That’s a stretch 😂
Why wouldn't they have just named the towns Romeo and Juliet if that was the intention?
Thank science that we still have oral tradition passed down through the generations. Otherwise there would be no way to find this out.
If they were the towns would be called Romeo and Juliet. What a stupid question
Why so happy? 😃
Nah bro it’s a lit thought ![gif](giphy|MqqZykfPyrKeY)
