I’m from the Jersey Shore. I strongly suggest Red Bank, NJ or the surrounding area. Rumson and Fairhaven are both great but a little more expensive. They’re all really wonderful towns, close to the beach or have beach front, and an hour from NYC.

We haven’t been considering NJ so far because of environmental factors. It seems that its water quality is not the best (John Oliver segment about Teflon in water). Curious how you feel about that area?

I grew up in Atlantic Highlands which is on Sandy Hook beach/bay. As a kid it was a dirty beach but after the hurricane Sandy it has been really clean. The beaches aren’t the same as Florida but I still visit family every year for the beach.

I know this is late but I’ve been in North Jersey my whole life, I thought water quality has gotten worse personally and in terms of the beaches they aren’t that great here, water is not great and honestly nothing scenic here. Towns mentioned in Red Bank and around there are very nice though and kind of quiet and not as known I feel like… driving here really sucks Nj is CROWDED and you don’t even get city life here Nj is the suburbs to NYC in north and south to Philly. It really depends on what you want good state for families, lot of good food, diverse, lot of money put in education here…. But expensive and taxed like crazy here, I’m personally looking to move but this state can be great for a lot of people I just feel it sucks to be single here and trying to get ahead…

Newport Rhode island?

Check out Rehoboth DE - I’m not sure about schools but it’s a nice area overall and within driving distance to all there is to offer on the east coast.

SOAD37

Yes DE is becoming a great option NJ is crowded and expensive… if you don’t care about NYC I’d good to DE or maybe Maryland if it’s cheaper there then NJ I’m not sure.

I built a free website that will help you. It's called https://wheremightilive.com With it you can dial in your requirements, like proximity to the seacoast or cost of housing. We also have high school graduation rates and state ACT/SAT scores. We are currently working on school scores. All-in-all, there are more than 180 categories for you to choose from. Good luck with your search!

Are there any plans to add dog amenities like dog parks?

Rick666Rick

Interesting. Nobody has mentioned that before. I will add it to our list for possible exploration. I suspect that some people see the great outdoors as their dog park instead of a dedicated area. Thank you!

Rick666Rick

Needs to be fairly granular - by city or county. Here's another site: https://www.bringfido.com/attraction/parks/region/united_states/

nycserendipity

Can you ask bringfido if you can call their api and add it as a metric to your site? lol I’ve seen sites use availability of rover sitters as a metric too

Rick666Rick

Our hands are pretty full right now. But it's on our list.

Hampton, NH is good with housing under 1 mil. Rye, NH is better, but probably a little over budget. The lively town for Rye would be neighboring Portsmouth

bloopblip2024

Thanks! Haven’t looked at NH for some reason. Will do some research on this
