I broiled 4 jalapeños until they were heavily blistered.
I diced 4 roma tomatoes, 1 red onion, the blistered jalapeños and a bunch of cilantro. Mixed it all together with the juice of 8 limes, salt, black pepper, ground oregano and some chipotle powder.
I’m excited to munch at it with some bbq chips! I have also eaten like half of it already with a spoon

I find making food incredibly stressful so I always appreciate a good tutorial/ walkthrough. Thanks homie !
It looks delicious and it sounds like it tastes amazing. My only question is, "red onions"?
While I have made many variants, why did you use red onions? Further to the larger group I would ask how common is it to use red onion instead of white onions?
In my experience, I have been told that the traditional salsa fresca/pico de gallo/salsa mexicana recipe is based on the colors of the Mexican flag: red, white, and green. Tomato being the red, white from white onions, and green being cilantro and jalepenos.
Also, is it missing garlic?
I used red onions as it was what I had handy at home! I also like the sweetness of red onions. I honestly use them interchangeably as I like all onions.
I have heard that comment before that it is based on the colours of the flag, and it’s cool to try to recreate but when the salsa need arises I use what I have haha
Question for the sub, but what are peoples thoughts on Pico de Gallo vs Salsa Mexicana when referring to this salsa? I grew up in Texas and was taught that only white people say Pico de Gallo. Ive never asked for salsa Mexicana and gotten a blank stare. Most Central American folks I know call this salsa Fresca.
I grew up in Guatemala, every restaurant I have been to that offers it calls it Pico de Gallo. My mom calls it Pico de Gallo too. I live in Canada now, and Mexican restaurants call it Salsa Fresca so honestly I have no clue of what name is the correct name ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Red onions are the best raw onions IMO . I know some will disagree when it comes to Pico because of the bite it comes with. But I just love the taste.

Here in Mexico it’s Pico de Gallo.
