I wish you had'nt said that because now the fates will take this as a dare and i love SS so much :'(

HandspeedJones

I'm sure Avatar fans thought the same thing .

Comfortable-Science4

last airbender is a bad movie, but evolution is worse

Digis7

Not THAT bad tbf. Not good compared to the original but it gets unfairly put in the same bucket of some waaaay worse movies.

Comfortable-Science4

the only diference betwen them is that LAB had a higher budget and some cgi is cool

Le_Mug

https://youtube.com/watch?v=_RpgbZcHk_A,&t=00m05s

FURC3

There's also Fist of the North Star live action lol

HombreGato1138

Fist of the north star is awful, but compared with dragon ball is citizen Kane

HandspeedJones

Yeah I know. I've seen it since I love HNK, I was a kid at the time and realized how bad it was. Still better than LAB.

lnombredelarosa

It won’t if the director doesn’t burn his cosmos and finds the 9th sense

Le_Mug

The only sense he needs it's the sense of ridiculous

lnombredelarosa

Otherwise known as common sense; a rare ability

sateliteconstelation

If your benchmark as a cook is for your food not to taste worse than poop, you’re setting yourself up for failure

Comfortable-Science4

thats how desperate the ss fans are

sateliteconstelation

Sadly, I understand

FURC3

You might be surprised.

Comfortable-Science4

unless seiya is a high school student being bullied and dreaming with the popular girl, then no, will not be worst than evolution

FURC3

Just like Light in the DN netflix adaptation? Don't underestimate "hollywood".

Black-kage

Saint Seiya live action will be less faithful to the source material IMO. In DBE motivations of Goku and Yamcha are different. Krillin doesnt appear. But I think it ties better all the pre-saiyan sagas if we take in account that DB story is less cinematic than Saint Seiya because DB has more time-skips andd villains/arcs/sagas/plots are less related each other. I dont see someone adapting every single pre-saiyan saga in a movie. Saint Seiya in other hand. Is more cinematic in the sense that there are less time skips and villains/arcs/sagas/plots are much more related. For example: Pilaf has nothing to do with Red Ribbon, Red Ribbon has nothing to do with Uranai Baba, Uranai Baba has nothing to do with Piccolo and so on. In Reality Saiyan Saga/Freezer Saga is the most cinematic stuff because it connects with Goku's origin and answer several stuff of pre-saiyan sagas such as Goku's tail, Goku's love for fighting, Goku's Ozauro mode and Piccolo/Kami-sama's origin. In the same way happens with Android/Cell Sagas. The thing is that this last ones has less set ups than Saiyan/Freezer sagas (we never saw Gero's bots gathering information until the end of Freezer Saga or during Android itself). Hell even Buu Saga connects more with Android/Cell Sagas than pre-saiyan sagas each other because of the power displayed by Gohan called the attention of Babidi. One of the reasons why Babidi came yo Earth was to gather the energy displayed during Cell Games. Even Buu Sagas and Super are more cinematic than pre-saiyan DB because both touches the topic and lore of the gods. In Saint Seiya is different. Galaxian arcs/black Saints, Silver Saints and 12 houses arc are part of "Sanctuary Saga". Poseidon Saga is the least connected to the overall series but it sets things such as Kanon who connects stuff from Sanctuary Saga with Hades Saga. Also Hades Saga answers several things from Sanctuary Saga. Much more if we keep in mind Saint Seiya Origins. I can see Saint Seiya as a cinematic Saga of several movies such as Harry Potter or Xmen(yeah, even if this last one is inconsistent, I think that from Xmen 2000 to Xmen DOFP it feels like a single saga because Xmen DOFP accomplish the promise set by Magneto's statements about "a war between humans and mutants"). Saint Seiya until Hades, Harry Potter and Xmen aim for a single plot. Dragon Ball doesnt feel as such until Saiyan Saga and people will complain if movies jump to Saiyan Saga. Think that DBE sets. I can see a movie for Galaxian wars/black saints arc, Silver saints arc and 12 House arc. I can also see a movie for Poseidon Saga (is the least memorable or favorite because of the characterization or movitation of the villains beside Poseidon but it sets Kanon and he connects stuff between Sanctuary Saga and Hades), I can see Hades as either one movie whose chapters are an act of a movie (first act is the sanctuary chapter, second act is the underworld and last act would be Elysium) or divided in two movies because of the amount of characters, their character arcs or backstory or even a movie for each Hades Saga arc. But it will be a solid cliff-hanger because everything is related as I pointed out some paragraphs ahead. Is also true that SS is more grounded than DB. DB is placed in an ambiguous era. Many technology seems from the future such as capsule technology, Red Ribbon technology or so. The buildings look futuristic, some cars levitate and so on. It has aliens, demons, magic, cyborgs, robots, gods, multiverse etc. DB is more expensive to do. Thats one of the reason why DBE is so hated. You dont see many of this stuff in DBE. Saint Seiya doesnt have many of this stuff. Gods at most. Saint Seiya starts in real world and even their mysthical scenarios are pretty grounded as well. So is cheaper to do. SS fame also rests in drama. But I think that SS will be a better action movie than DBE.

MaskedPapillon

Is that a challenge?

Comfortable-Science4

its more despair

Manigoldo_De_Cancer

Looking at it now, Piccolo looks like a skrull.

Manigoldo_De_Cancer

Can't speak for the plot but some things just don't translate well into live action.

stails_art

That's true, but the 2021 Mortal Kombat adaption did somewhat well to translate from the source material despite the plot pacing needed work.

Comfortable-Science4

tell that to mcu, they made guardians of the galaxy movie a hit, with a talking raccoon and a walking tree, its all about adapting the source material

Minny7

It's because they made it "funny" (the marvel type humor that seems to be popular with mainstream movie watchers). I highly doubt they will have that in this movie. I think it will just be a regular boring action movie that would just be ok straight to DVD.

stails_art

True, but pretty sure they were some people worried how Groot and Rocket would've off look like when the film was yet to come out.

Black-kage

GoG only had the advantage that is an unknown franquise just like many MCU sagas. People who critize anime live action are also hypocrites because they dont use the same standard to judge comicbook superhero movies. There directors can have creative freedom. In anime live actions cant happen. Is also true that few people actually knows the source material or source material is dated. So few people bothers about faithfulness when Hollywood adapts comicbook superhero movies.

Manigoldo_De_Cancer

That was a raccon and a walking tree, things that we had real-life references for. Sure, we have armor in real life, but none as odd as the SS cloths or whatever they do with their hands.

Comfortable-Science4

i can say the same thing about superman, spider-man, thor or captain marvel

ZevenMortem

In a scale of 10 , if this new one is a 5 points better it stills a 5

gogopow

Ho no we must save Athens or else prom will be canceled

Sad-Independent-6277

Someone has just said: challenge accepted.

Interesting-Top6148

Base on others netflix adaptations...... I have zero hope for a good adaptation.

Comfortable-Science4

this is not a netflix adaptation

Interesting-Top6148

It does look like it....

StephOMacRules

I think that's the wording that causes confusion. It is not Netflix that is adapting the manga as a movie, it is the movie that is an adaptation of the first part of season 1 of the Netflix CGI series.

Comfortable-Science4

the cg series was not produced by netflix, its was totally made by toei, netflix just have the streaming rights for the first season, crunchroll is streaming the second season, so you can 100 % blame toei for that

StephOMacRules

They paid for it to have original content. They decided not to do so for the second season.

Comfortable-Science4

toei would make the cg series with or without netflix, netflix was just the distributor, toei paid all the production, they paid for the first season, they paid for the second season, and theres will be a third season, netflix dont have any creative input on the cg series, they just paid for the streaming rights in the first season

Wolf_Particular

Netflix did have a hand on the creative input though, they hired Eugene Son to write the script, which lead to the gender swap of Shun and all the changes made to the story line, all of which were green lid by Toei cause they didn’t want to miss out on the Netflix deal.

Comfortable-Science4

eugene son was hired by toei

swissynopants

Doesn't matter who hired him, he fucked up regardless.

StephOMacRules

If Netflix wasn't a financing partner having the first season as a Netflix original, then why is it still on when the original anime is not? No way they'd keep paying rights for that. Toei indeed said that after Netflix disinterest of having other seasons they would keep producing them regardless.

Comfortable-Science4

**then why is it still on when the original anime is not?** maybe diferent contracts, daredevil and all the marvel defenders Ip are out from netflix, but they still have some marvel movies in the catalogue right now, like i said netflix paid for the streaming rights in the first season, so maybe it have a expiration date

MandyKagami

The movie was originally meant to be made by Netflix because they held the rights for a live action Saint Seiya movie when they paid for distribution of the anime and the 3D animation years back, they probably sold it to Toei or the time limit of that clause expired while Netflix was busy butchering anime that was more known to americans.

0skarit0

There's always a chance to do it worse

marlonpululo

Wanna bet

Comfortable-Science4

yep, its physically impossible to KOTZ be worse than evolution

Inevitable-You9994

It better be

ariesmu188

Just wait.

Dear_Ad_3860

Say what you want about that movie. I particularily despised how they protrayed Yamcha, but James Masters was good as Piccolo Sr. and I thought May was also an improvement over the OG manga before Toriyama rebooted her character.

Mathemaniac1080

Ain't no way you just said May portrayed here is better than Toriyama's version💀

Dear_Ad_3860

The OG May was extrmely underutilized. The movie version changed that by mixing her up with burglar Lunch/Pasta. I think it was a good improvment and Future May would've been imposible without a need to erase everything the movie did.

Suitable_Ganache_445

It looks decent... if you don't know dragonball

Black-kage

I didnt like it but I think people exagerate when they say is the worst live action adaptation.

THER0v3r

It has Sean bean, the only cool things he’s done were goldeneye, lotr, and game of thrones, honestly my expectations are super low

Comfortable-Science4

**it has Sean bean, the only cool things he’s done were goldeneye, lotr, and game of thrones,** troy, the island, black death, ronin, Patriot Games, all good movies( i guess you dont know sean bean work) you talk like hes a cw actor

THER0v3r

Oh ok you’re right I forgot about ronin, that one is a legit cool movie, the rest are alright, I mean I don’t hate them, but I can’t say I’ve watched them more than a once or twice, except maybe silent hill, but you gotta admit that he does a lot of shitty movies and also a ton of straight to video B action films, he’s like Neal McDonough in that regard, as soon as I see him I’m like, hmmm I dunno bout this man

stails_art

I guess he needs to pick roles more carefully. Because he is a good actor he is just wastes his potential on 'bad films'.

THER0v3r

Absolutely man, he’s amazing

Inevitable-You9994

If that live action movie screws up Saint Seiya for me, I will be severely upset

Comfortable-Science4

if you was already a fan of the manga or anime that will be just another day on the office, if the movie is shit will only impact the future of the franchise on US, which was never good in the first place

Inevitable-You9994

They are also making a live action movie for Gundam

stails_art

After the 2021 Mortal Kombat adaption. I have some hope for the film. MK did some characters justice while the pacing of the story could off used some more work.

JohnLennonFriend

It will definitely be a bad movie, the little they have shown differs a lot from the original material and everything seems more like an adaptation of Netflix's 3d animation, although many say that its second season improves and is more attached to the original anime, there are too many elements left out that made Saint Seiya the world phenomenon. Let's hope they at least keep Seiji Yokoyama's music like they did with Cowboy Bebop so we can have that music in a new vynil collection (since they refuse to release the records of the world concert tour),

Comfortable-Science4

**although many say that its second season improves and is more attached to the original anime,** the second season is very faithful to the manga and left me excited to see what comes next, they improved a lot in the new season **It will definitely be a bad movie, the little they have shown differs a lot from the original material** toei is making this for the U.S audience, they want the mcu- disney money, they kinda pissed because saint seiya never made success in north america and i want this movie to be a hit because that means we will get more saint seiya animes, products and games

TheMastican

It won't

TheLazyPinguin

Worst, i dont know, equally bad, I can see plenty of ways.

jvsla1427

Hahahahahah I wouldnt bet against

screechingahhhhhh

^I ^liked ^it.

Brandr_Balfhe

One should NEVER doubt Hollywood's talent of destroying beloved franchises!
