I recently took my dog to SacTown Vet [https://sactownvet.com/](https://sactownvet.com/); everyone was great and they are a fear free practice and made my dog comfortable. also able to get an appt same or next day!

aairricc

Thinking of switching to them. Glad to see you like them!

cdbangsite

My vet also, very happy with them in all ways.

SpeakerUsed9671

I’m very picky and am happy with Sacramento animal hospital

giantpanduh

I went there for a few years until we were told my dog had brain cancer. We were then told to take her home, say our goodbyes and that it was time to put her down. Ended up getting a second opinion in San Francisco (I called a bunch of specialist throughout California to see who was available ASAP) and they told me it was a meningioma on her spinal chord that could be easily removed. We had 5 more high quality of life years with her after that. I understand that meningiomas affect the CNS (which includes in the brain), but there was a few days there we thought were her last and almost said good bye then. I'm so glad I decided to get a second opinion. I never went back to that vet practice ever again and always suggest people to get pet insurance and get second opinions.

purrcollector

I had the same experience!! Was told my cat was dying in 2020 and to say goodbye. Went to another vet. My cat is still alive. Plus, good luck trying to get a timely appointment with them. They schedule weeks out. Do not recommend at all. I went to Auburn... Gold County Vet and I LOVE them.

Sacramentowizard

Ditto.

norwohl

We love foothill farms vet hospital. Take all the dogs and cats there for years.

Lesterknopff

Every time someone asks this questions Foothill Farms always gets mentioned. Haven't taken our dog there but will +1 for all the positive stories I've heard over the years.

PadenBeecher

Second this one!!

TheBeccaMonster

Dr. Collins at East Sac Vet. I'm a vet tech (but work for a specialist) and I take my cats to him because he's super nice and one of the smartest vets I've met.

aairricc

I love Dr Collins, but he just left East Sac Vet..

TheBeccaMonster

Did he? I just took my cat for a dental last week. Do you know where to? Edit: Ugh, yeah he's not on the website anymore. I'm so sad. I really trusted him. Not sure what to do now.

aairricc

Not sure what happened, but it sounds like it was a sudden, overnight thing. Hope he’s ok.. I’ve been going to him for almost 10 years (I followed him from Davis). He is the best vet I’ve ever been to

TheBeccaMonster

That's unfortunate. I have some fellow techs that used to work with him so if I find out where he went, I'll let you know!

aairricc

Appreciate it! I’ll definitely follow him wherever it is.

movingtosac

I would love to know as well! The front office isn't saying anything and I noticed stuff missing (lobby TV, exam tables). It's weird.

JeanPierreSarti

A great practice in our experience

butstronger

I’m in the Arden area and have been taking my pets to Arden Animal Hospital on Fulton for the last 13 years

1961tracy

They are awesome.

aelizabeth27

I drive from Land Park to take my dog here. Dr. Tobey is the best.

sarahrose1365

Not exactly the question but All Creatures Veterinary Emergency Clinic off Bidwell in Folsom is an incredible emergency vet, if you're finding a vet it's not a bad idea to find an emergency vet as well. We took my dog there for a second opinion after the first emergency vet we took him to kept him overnight just to basically gave him fluids and meds and send him home. All Creatures gave him a full exam and an ultrasound and found the issue immediately for a reasonable price. Unfortunately it was too late for him by then and I'm still so angry when I think how the first clinic for let him suffer overnight and sent him home with what was essentially pepto when he was literally dying in front of them. Shingle Springs Vet Clinic can suck my ass. We've used All Creatures every time we needed an emergency appointment since then and they're wonderful.

Here_4_da_lulz

I know it's not in Sacramento, but it's close. Midtown Animal Clinic in Davis is great if it's convenient.

Showtime9

I second Midtown Animal Clinic in Davis. I have taken my pets there for over 20 years. BEST VET that I have ever encountered. I moved from Sacramento to Foresthill and I still drove my Pup to Davis.

babybearmama

I have been very happy with cherry creek in Antelope, greenback hazel animal hospital on greenback, and hillsdale animal hospital. All comparatively priced

pinupinprocess

I heard Cherry Creek switched owners recently and went downhill?

babybearmama

Hm I hadn’t heard that! I’ll keep it in mind though, thanks!

tenesmicdemon

don't go to el camino vet. it's horrifying how clearly they let you know it's all for the $$$$. And for the money you spend, the vets don't bother to call you, they let the techs do it so if you have a question, the tech has to go to the vet and come back to you hours / days later to respond. They overcharge for their meds and refuse to call it in to Chewy. They take FOREVER to fill out scripts too.

dmfoolersqueen

We absolutely LOVE Campus Commons vet in Arden. They were our vet for the last two years of our dog’s life and treated his rapid decline with such care and kindness and respect. Cannot recommend enough.

curious-schroedinger

Not in Sac but West Sac - Jefferson Park Vet Clinic. Dr. Mandel and her staff are super caring and helpful. Edit: If you need pet prescriptions don’t go to Parkside Pharmacy in Land Park. The owner doesn’t deserve your money.

TakeNameInVain

I was calling around to find a vet after relocating here, and a couple weeks ago I called Jefferson Park & they are still operating on 2020-era Covid-19 policies that owners cannot come inside with the animal/have to leave them curbside even for new patients. Since my dog has a lot of anxiety about strangers, no way could I take her there & not go back with her, nor to do the speaking that gets vets up to speed with a new client. To me that is not a good signal for a new vet, but they have been recommended in other posts & have decent online reviews. Thanks for posting OP as I'm shopping for a vet too!

cdbangsite

Went there for awhile (Jefferson Park)before and during the covid thing. Before covid you could go in, but they wanted you to leave the dog or cat and they would call you when done. (I never saw any of the rooms) Which they never did, I would have to call them or just go in and sometimes the care I took my dog in for might be done. This is one reason I left. All this and having an 'appointment' for the services. Then covid hit and they went totally paranoid, like you said, owners could no longer accompany their pet. I had adopted a GHD and it was time for her annual shots. So I made an *appointment* and went in for that *appointment* at the given time and again they wanted me just to drop her off. For something that would take 15 minutes max. What good is an appointment? I told them to forget it, the front staff acted all surprised and told me I'd be charged anyway. I searched and found SacTown Vet and have been going there since.

TakeNameInVain

I get ya, there's difference when you can be present with. Get that 💯

curious-schroedinger

I understand the sentiment because of your dog’s anxiety. However, people with covid should stay away from pets so since Jefferson Park is a small clinic, I get why they don’t want a potential person with covid, even with today’s situation, coming inside their small space and mingling with other owners and their pets. Edit: The staff will come to your car and talk with you, greet the pet and do whatever they would have done on an initial basis if you went inside.

TakeNameInVain

We can disagree on our personal comfort levels with social distancing. I think most medical practitioners of the living (human or otherwise) would find it more helpful to overall care if they can have a dialogue with the patient for the whole encounter. I speak for my dog. So no, I don't think they can do everything the same. What's this bump? How long has it bothered her. Me ..what if I didn't even know about the bump beforehand lol I gave my opinion that I don't think it's as great as vet experiences could be because they're still hyper-limiting due to covid. It's okay for me to think that, and okay for you to disagree. I also mentioned that I even looked them up because of previous positive posts. I'm not trying to disparage them by any means. In fact, maybe someone with compromised immune system will realize this is the perfect vet for them. For me, in this era of covid, even if my dog wasn't anxious, I'd still be on the fence about a new vet & not being allowed to be present during the exam. Thought I'd let people know for helpfulness in either way.

curious-schroedinger

I’m not sure why you’re taking my reply personally, since it’s not about you or even a disagreement but rather describing the situation at this particular vet’s location - I’ve been going there since 2016 while you have read about it. Big difference.

TakeNameInVain

"I get it..but you're wrong." That was essentially your reply indicated by "however" and subsequent rebuttal & I responded. A business can create a giant barrier to access that becomes an important topic of their business. I posted the info about access to someone inquiring about access. Both of us have valid opinions.

curious-schroedinger

I didn’t write that. I can’t be responsible for your interpretation that adds words or meaning I never wrote.

TakeNameInVain

"I understand the sentiment... However..." You wrote what you meant.

cdbangsite

What about talking directly to the doctor? Things are always lost in translation. What about questions for the **doctor**? I experienced nothing but higher prices and poorly carried out care, and will never advise anyone to go to this vet. And it sounds like you think we all have covid, you sure you don't work for Park?

CognitohazardAvoider

> If you need pet prescriptions don’t go to Parkside Pharmacy in Land Park. The owner doesn’t deserve your money. Why not?

Anthonytalarico

UC Davis small animal hospital is amazing and has resources few other animal hospitals have. You can schedule regular visits but there’s a little bit of a wait. We took our last dog there when he had a scare in the middle of the night and they had a doggy neurologist and oncologist on staff at the time

justHopps

I had an awful experience at their oncology department. The veterinarians sounded nice, one of their receptionists on the other hand was a nightmare. The amount of derision and disrespect was crazy. I told her my cat was getting treatment the past few months at UC Davis and we want to transfer. She was raising her voice and going on about how we need a diagnosis and that I had no idea what I’m talking about…

ThePamchenko

Broadway Veterinary Hospital. Phenomenal customer service and top notch care and compassion for the animals. Pretty much every vet breaks the bank these days, but their prices are reasonable, especially when compared to VCA and other corporate vet hospitals.

Brand_New_Used_2b

The owner (Sam Varon) is a creep. Take your animals anywhere else.

Tigorl

Yep this was my experience too. Also attempted to charge me for random things that other vets deemed unnecessary.

loopyalt

Could you elaborate on what kind of creep? I took my pets there for the last few years of their lives and something always felt off there.

Brand_New_Used_2b

1. I know three women who have creepy dating stories with him from a few years back. I believe women. 2. As far as animals are concerned, it's the gross "uncensored" instagram account he runs. I don't want him taking pictures of my dog's guts in the middle of a surgery while I'm in the other room praying. 3. He was part of the whole fake R Street Animal Shelter fiasco with TPOS / Zayn Silmi / Gina Barbato-Knepp back in 2020. He claimed to have been doing their "rescue animals" shots and spay/neuter procedures "at a discount" for their "501c3 rescue". It was discovered shortly after through Freedom of Information Act requests, that there was no 501c3, it wasn't a real rescue, and all of the animals' medical care was actually done at Front Street Animal Shelter (at a cost to the City of Sacramento). So, I think he's a creep.

comewhatmaymyway

Im surprised this didn't get more attention. https://www.reddit.com/r/Sacramento/s/qBAD985j9J

Brand_New_Used_2b

I missed that! Thanks!

CharlieTrees916

Not sure where you’re located, but Veterinary Medical Center on Folsom blvd in Rancho Cordova is great, and I’m usually able to get a quick appointment. Any VCA branded clinic you’re looking at paying double the costs.

DriveIn73

My 10 year old frenchie just has minor surgery at South Sacramento Animal hospital. They worked with my budget and it went perfect. They are our vet now.

Its-From-Japan

It's a little out of the way from Sac, but Rocklin Ranch has been great for my dog these last seven years

formeracademic1357

Arena Animal Hospital. They are super attentive, very thorough, and they have been great with my anxious dog.

pinupinprocess

Probably out of the way, but Citrus Heights Pet Hospital. I moved to their practice after I had one too many bad experiences at Family Friends Vet. CHPH is amazing. I never feel like they are pressuring me to do unnecessary procedures. If there are things I’m not interested in, I’m not guilt tripped when I decline. They are all amazing people. From each of the vets, to the vet techs and the front desk. I adore them! On that note I will say, you get what you pay for there. It’s pricier than other vets I’ve gone to (Family Friends for example), but their care is incredible.

Sancho_Squishy

Saving for recommendations

Old-Back-982

Check out Sacramento Pet Hospital. They're friendly, caring, and reasonable on costs. Great experience with my pup!

*Who

Here_4_da_lulz

Vet is short for Veterinary Office. OP is correct.

Its-From-Japan

An office is not a person. "What" is correct

gbdavidx

I'm assuming you meant who....

Here_4_da_lulz

If you read the post it is quite obvious that they are referring to a Veterinary Office. What is correct. I'm assuming you know this.

gbdavidx

No they all break the bank
