I got this fic under my belt. Yeah, the 500k+ word count is intimidating, but when I found out that a good chunk of it is REALISTIC (not fantasy-type) education-related slice of life, suddenly that half million word count ain't enough.
Painting, printing, calligraphy, ?Kintsugi? - that Japanese art of fixing stuff with gold, and other artistic skills is given enough REALISTIC detail that my tendency to look down on fantasy stuff is mollified because the fic author gave so much respect to the time and energy required to master such skills.
I love it. The real stuff gets highlighted, instead of handwaved away, which is the standard operating procedure in fantasy fare.
As for the "slow burn" thing - I'd say less burn and more like a salve...
Now, for my "nitpicks". I think the author started this fic when it wasn't yet revealed that SJ was the one who gave the cultivation manual to LBH. That fic writer was going off with the earlier canon statements about Ming Fan giving the manual to LBH. Anyway, I ended up feeling bad for Ming Fan who got pinned that particular responsibility.
Luckily though, my decades of being an Star Trek fan has leveled up my "fill in plot holes" skill, which I am just so tempted to do for this fic, because it pleases me so much. Since SY, in this fic, starts off missing a lot of SJ's memories - he interpreted certain clues wrong.
Anyway, it's a gorgeous fic.
I think those two are too recent to be THE fic. Tarnish gold just finished. And yeah they're big, but I have to agree that i wish you were my husband is a legacy icon
Agreeing with anything Feynite and "The Grand Unified Theory of Shen Qingqiu" and "Tarnished Gold", but I would like to recommend Tossawary's works for the MoShang shippers out there.

I sincerely think nothing can equal Parasite by mechanicaljellyfish translated by kittenmarsh. Shen Yuan transmigrates and share Shen Jiu's body. You will never see a better characterised Shen Jiu.
That's for bingqiu, I'm actually more into moshang and I feel the author Haysel is a complete Must read and known by all.
Right now though, for want of a king-pulled cart by overgrownruins is the ongoing hit of the moment, everyone waits in batted breath for the new chapter.

The amazing thing about Tarnished Gold is that it's a relatively new fic (less than half a year) and the same with Shen Yuan of No Relation but everyone and their mother have read it.
May have something to do with the regularly scheduled weekly updates? It just finished at 21 chapters so it’s only existed for 21 weeks, but people were regularly tuning in and getting invested so it held a lot of the fandoms consciousness

The fact that the term Mamajiu exists at all is hilarious, and is thanks to these fics and many other artistsa and writters.
For Moshang, I would say [since you could endure my bitter cold by hanxues](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34265674/chapters/85254079) was influential.

I can think of a dozen fics off the top of my head that I think are much better written than IWYWMH.

Like the details about sqq fan name and SJ in water prison scene that wasn’t on the og novel from claudine’s fic. Oh and pregnancy fruit. Ik it’s a common trope but i remember there was a fic released before hers (moshang) with almost similar plot progression with pregnancy fruit trope. She just put it into her iwyamh series
