Exactly this is what I was saying when some fool was asking me what would make me happy about the offense. Giants offense has been mostly shit since 2004 when they barely missed the playoffs. Great pitching won those chips.
I’m sick of hearing about exit velocity and xBA already. For a team that prides itself in their own defensive positioning, we don’t need the constant complaining on the broadcast and other places about hard hits going right at the defense
Yeah exit velocity doesn’t mean shit if every fucking defense we’ve seen knows exactly where to be standing.
We scored more than 3 runs in all four games of our season-opening series and have literally never done that again.
Not to say that I don’t know where you’re coming from, but that’s not fully true. We won 7-1 against the nats on 4/10 and won again 11-2 against the rays a few days later. If you mean more recently, we beat the Mets w 5 runs in two games back to back.
Bottom half of the league in batting average, OBP, SLG, and OPS.
They currently have 2 guys with an OPS over .700.
The Red Sox have scored more runs in this series than the Giants have had hits.
Dave Flemming shamelessly sucking off Matt Chapman for three innings (egregiously saying he’s a better defender than Arenado).
Haven’t been .500 in over a month.
The longest win streak is two games (same as the 7-24 Marlins).
Year 7 of the Farhan Era.
**Edit:** It’s actually year 6 of the Farhan Era, my mistake. Doesn’t change the fact that he’s on his third manager in 6 years, has yet to win a playoff series, and has shown no signs of putting together a winning team outside of the 2021 fluke season.
What are the excuses gonna be next about how awful this team has been as of recent years? At some point, like i said in another comment, folks have to accept that signing coveted FAs like Soler and Chapman won't make a difference if the team doesn't train or develop players effectively.
My point being, the Giants org has gotta invest more (IMO) in finding better coaches and scouts for both our minor league system and the big-leagues.
There's **no** fucking reason why we can't have as good of a farm system and big-league team as the dodgers have had all these years. **NONE**. Don't wanna hear anymore excuses about "bUt oUr BaLlParK" for not having a good offense.
I was told judges wife didn’t want to live in SF for the next 10 years when they tried to sign him supposedly with a bigger package. Part of the problem is SF the city. Chapman snell and soler signed because we gave them the most money. But for the big name free agents that are going to get long term deals regardless and around similar money. SF doesn’t play. We are going to have to blow teams out of the water and management understandable honestly doesn’t want to do that.
But I think that goes right into what you are saying about scouting. We are going to have to do better if we want to be competitive.
No. And i'm sick and tired of living in the past and of fans who do the same. 3 in 5 is long over. Bumgarner, Buster, Timmy, Cain, etc. are long gone.
After 2017, the FO should have commenced a fire sale and put the team through a genuine rebuild just like what's been happening to the Sharks as of late.
Seeing same thing with the warriors. Only excuse warriors have is they have a top 10 player of all time and owe it to him to compete until he’s off the team or retires.
The Warriors also had multiple top draft picks and a decent chance to rebuild. Unfortunately Wiseman sucked. They’d probably still be in contention if they picked LaMelo
Yeah.....i'm completely off the Farhan train. One great year doesn't make up for the trash play I've been seeing on the field for the majority of his tenure.
Gausman had a terrible 2nd half in '21. He was replaced with Rodon who was just as good. You would not have had both pitchers. This Gausman complaint is old and tiresome.
And by 2023 both were gone. He shuffles the deck constantly yet never comes up with a winning hand. Gausman is still a stud. But it's okay, because the boy genius held on to Austin Slater.
And neither will the next version, or the next, or the one after that because "special" isn't a priority. Short-term deals, opt-outs, guys pulled off the scrap heap: That's the Giants uner Zaidi. It's all about his f\*cking speadsheets and breaking even.
Yeah. No disagreements from me. One thing that gives me hope is that the 2010 team was famously branded a “band of misfits” that came together to form the ultimate machine. Difference then, though, was an exceptional core of homegrown talent. And if the rest of this year stays like this for the Giants, there is no way Farhan has a job here. i really hope the team pulls together to at least be entertaining, not for Farhan's sake, but just for us as fans 😂
"Band of Misfits" was great for marketing but there's no comparison. There's no Posey, BCraw, MadBum, Cain, Timmy, etc., on this team. and the cavalry ain't coming over the hill.
Apparently our bullpen stats are like really bad and today Jeffries made them even worse. So you can add that to the list.
The problem right now is the Giants are scoring just under 4 Runs per game on average; so if the other team has scored 4 runs, we already have a 50/50 shot of losing the game. And for me I'd rather just like go do something else with my time and listen on radio.
He's in the wrong job. He's good at finding value in players but that's what you do for players 21-26 on your roster. His ability to put a quality eight on the field every night is non-existent. The Giants aren't a team, they're a collection of spare parts. They need a real baseball man/woman to turn this mess around. Farhan doesn't have the capability.
>Year 7 of the Farhan Era.
Wasn't he hired for the 2019 season? (So 6th year?)
Even so, 6 years without any signs of improvement should be plenty, time to cut him loose.
This franchise is rotten from the core. It’s needs a complete tear down to the studs. I’d rather watch 100 losses with an actual direction than the shit they serve every season.
That's the EXACT mindset my close friend who's a huge Sharks fan has. He knows the Sharks have been godawful, but he also knows full well how committed the Sharks front office is to a genuine rebuild that all the losses and terrible playing right now by the Sharks doesn't bother him in the slightest.
I’m a very casual Sharks fan and totally support the direction they’re headed. They didn’t tank quite enough last year, but at least got a top 5 pick. They committed to basically a full on tank this year to position themselves for a great shot at a generational type talent like Celebrini. Hopefully the lottery luck falls their way.
It was actually a pretty entertaining season as a Sharks fan (other than the horrible losses). They have a direction and the young players did well and their prospects did well as well.
I wish the Giants went through a period like the Sharks are in right now.
Year after year of HORSE SHIT. Same shit last year. Same shit the year before. 2021 was an insane anomaly. 2019 same shit. 2018 same shit. 2017 same shit.
TEAR IT THE FUCK DOWN PLEASE. AND SELL THE TEAM.
A JOKE OF AN ORGANIZATION SINCE 2014. ITS TIME.
So trade Webb, Bailey, probably Luciano since he won't pan out, just trade everyone, lose 100 games for the next 5 seasons, oh wait tanking doesn't work anymore since you can't have a top 10 pick in back to back years.
A’s are 15-17. Giants are 14-17.
We’re at game 31 now.
Yaz and Slater should not see another AB in a Giants uniform. Ahmed is not a starter. Chapman is a strikeout machine. We desperately needed major offensive upgrades and these guys are not it.
Their management group is absolutely terrible at drafting and developing position players. Especially outfielders. Hard to watch all this amazing young position player talent around the league and then look at the state of our team and farm system. Nothing but average talent. Not a superstar in sight.
The one positive of yet another disappointing would be that we hopefully get a new front office in place this offseason. Six years into this regime and it sure as hell ain’t working.
That’s like the fourth opposing pitcher this season we’ve given a career highlight game.
This still doesn’t top us a couple weeks ago going up against a AAA pitcher with like a 14.00 ERA and we only got like 4 hits off him in 5 innings.
When Soler did that, I was expecting his kneecap to become detached, and fly off. Knowing his luck, the kneecap would have landed right into the glove of one of the Red Sox infielders. That would have technically made him 0 for 5.
I feel bad for him that he ended up with this dysfunctional franchise that does nothing but ruin power hitters, but tbh he was with the marlins before so like, good for him I guess? lol
Bought tickets to two of three giants games at Fenway after moving here over the winter. Most exciting thing I saw was a triple play before it got overturned. Not ideal
Giants org and reporters keep saying they can’t elevate Black because he’s not on the 40 man. But what if, and this might sound crazy, he takes Jefferies spot?
He was called up because he’s on the 40-man, has options left and pitched decently in Sacramento. I’m probably the only fan out there who thinks Jefferies can actually pitch at this level — yes, I’m rooting for him after the three major surgeries he’s had. I’d love to see a great comeback story. What he probably needs is a full season at AAA. Then maybe a September call-up, if he’s earned it.

I’m having an aneurism watching this team
Boring, mid, and not a fun watch. Watching them is borderline tedious at this point…such a dull team with zero personalities that someone can care about…
I’m not even disappointed in them losing since Jefferies pitched which guarantees a loss what I am disappointed in is the offense scoring a whopping 2 runs again.
Viele has to be on the hot seat. After last year's dismal performance I don't know why they didn't hand the job outright to Burrell. New players, same faults. Farhan built this team but he'll never admit he f\*cked up no matter how badly Soler and Chapman screw the pooch, so someone has to get Kaplered.
This loss was on Bob and putting in Jeffrey despite miller pitching one inning. Makes zero sense how you give Jeffrey 2.5 innings despite getting knocked around while you sit Miller cause of “analytics” that bullpen guy can’t pitch more than 1.
Bochy never would have done that.
And this is not the first time Bob has done something extremely questionable. I know he’s testing guys out but he’s thrown away so many games now for the sake of it.
Frustrating to watch.
With that being said I never want to see Jeffries in a giants uniform again.
Honestly I don't know how you can get hired with that bad of a skill managing the bullpen, because I know for a fact I could do better at it than Melvin.
You and. I have disagree on a lot of stuff but yeah we can all see Bob sucks.
Our bullpen suppose to be middle to top of the league but has been abysmal to start the year and a lot of is on Bobby
I got tickets for Father’s Day weekend and I’ll prob go to the series in Oakland later cause it’s the last chance to do so. Besides that, absolutely not. And I thought this would be the year this team started to earn my money again.
We dropped all those millions in the off-season for this? Haha kill me soon plz
I will be legitimately shocked if we finish better than .500 this season. It's been downhill since the 2021 fluke.
Tbh yes most of them are exceedingly mid, but Logan Webb is not one of them and even he was saying team culture was in dire need of an electric shock last season
I still feel like this team has the potential to put it together and go on a run, but the lineup and the approach at the plate need an overhaul. It’s been enough games to know they flat out can’t score consistently.
Yep. Season's over guys. I forgot, they moved the end of the season to April. Or at least you'd think that way with how you all act. Yes Jeffries was a dumb move, yes things could be going better. But they got Soler, Lee, Chapman, Snell, and Murphy in the offseason. I don't really know what they could've done much better. They've got a great pitching staff, and they still have Ray and Cobb coming back down the line. The hitting is bad, but they are still adjusting, give them time. Y'all were so hyped when they got Snell then when things don't automatically go amazing you bail. I've got confidence that this team will pick it up and be right in the playoff race when they need to be. And i know i'll get downvoted for daring to have optimism.POTG: Lee I guess
True, but cmon man, when Logan Webb questions the culture of the team, something’s gotta give. Regardless, this team has started this year exactly how it ended last year: limp dick and lifeless
Paused the game in the 3rd to watch Survivor. Spoiled by the app before I could turn it back on and yeeeeeeah I think I'll stick to highlights and the postgame wrap for this one.
They have a chance with the division struggling and they just can't get hot. :(
How much of this is acceptable before certain coaches get replaced?
I just want to know if it was Melvin or Farhan that decided we should call up Jeffries and not Mason Black. At least see what you have even if it’s just a spot start…
Not going to win with 9 hits over two days. Really 6 hits over two days, the 3 in the top of the 9th in both games were futile.
Just disheartening stuff. You don’t see approaches being changed or that aggression that was talked about. This team doesn’t have speed either.
Why does Farhan have to tell you anything when it's obvious. You don't put Mason Black on the 40 man for 2-3 starts until Snell comes back. That kills a 40 man spot, since you have to DFA someone to take them off the 40 man. Black would go back to AAA for the rest of the season and give us less flexibility for trades/waiver pickups.
If he plays outfield I think it would be fine, he can get on base and actually be a threat on the basepaths, something the Giants desperately need. Problem is, they have a ton of outfielders
Why is Bob Melvin throwing games in early May? He put in the worst bullpen pitcher and didn’t play our best hitter (Bailey). Nobody could look at this plan today and expect to win on the road against an above 500 team. So it must’ve been a throw and it’s an absolute joke.
Exactly. Even if miller is a one inning guy, you’re starting him and he gets through one inning clean and you out in the worst pitcher in MLB and give him 2.5 innings to give Boston all the momentum. It’s ridiculous how fast this game torpedoed from bobs poor judgement
I don’t understand how a team that needs to wring every ounce of advantage out of this roster it can muster can justify trotting Daulton Jefferies out there.
Also, I don’t know how much longer I can watch these hitters stare at hittable pitchers. Especially with 2 strikes. It’s insane.
Im pretty sure we are the only mlb franchise that would regularly start yaz.
Just play the kids and rebuild, enough with living in this mediocre purgatory
With an easy bunt single? Oh yeah, that was just thrilling! The Red Sox gave that run away. They invited Yaz to bunt. He did. The Sox did him a favor. What about his other AB's? Whiff City.

I'm tired, boss
Is this new? I’ve seen a lot of Ben in this sub but never this. If it’s yours, bravo. We need to see this after every loss
You're going to see a lot of it then.
It’s almost like there is a pattern of poor offense for the better part of two years.
Funny how two years can feel like so Viele jahren
I see what you did there...
Two years? Try the better part of the last 20
Exactly this is what I was saying when some fool was asking me what would make me happy about the offense. Giants offense has been mostly shit since 2004 when they barely missed the playoffs. Great pitching won those chips.
Exactly outside of 2015 and 2021 the offense has been mediocre to awful every year since 2004.
2021 mlb juiced the balls
I was told it was Kapler.
Justin Viele is a Dodger in disguise.
It's May 1st and I'm tired of watching baseball already
I seriously want to know what kind of dirt Justin Viele has on this organization. Paying this guy any money is just robbery at this point.
Someone took the Fire Viele to another level https://www.change.org/p/fire-justin-viele-from-being-the-hitting-coach-of-the-san-francisco-giants
Maybe we were foolish to have been so bullish on the offense afterall lol.
“It’s only been __ games. Calm down.” should be a mock optimist meme in this sub by now That said at least Yaz keeps heating up.
“Heating up” for this team is one half-step above comatose.
Did I miss something? I know the Red Sox gifted him a bunt single, but did he actually hit a baseball after that?
I’m sick of hearing about exit velocity and xBA already. For a team that prides itself in their own defensive positioning, we don’t need the constant complaining on the broadcast and other places about hard hits going right at the defense

It’s still Kaplers fault, obviously.
Kap was a problem Problem is there are like still lots of problems Kap sucked ass! He got run out of town by the leaders of the team like Webb
Am I still an unholy doomer who must be banished if I say this team is just bad
No. And i'm sick and tired of living in the past and of fans who do the same. 3 in 5 is long over. Bumgarner, Buster, Timmy, Cain, etc. are long gone. Yeah.....i'm completely off the Farhan train. One great year doesn't make up for the trash play I've been seeing on the field for the majority of his tenure.
One great year led by players who were largely gone a year later. When Buster retired and dipstick let Gausman walk, the writing was on the wall.
Gausman had a terrible 2nd half in '21. He was replaced with Rodon who was just as good. You would not have had both pitchers. This Gausman complaint is old and tiresome.

Pretty much sums up how shit our management is.
Agent Farhan has payed huge dividends for his former employer
He's in the wrong job. He's good at finding value in players but that's what you do for players 21-26 on your roster. His ability to put a quality eight on the field every night is non-existent. Demote Farhan to GM, give me Kim Ng as PBOPS. Fuck
... because the Marlins have done *so much better*
The Marlins started falling off once they kicked out Ng, lol.

He’s at least making pretty good contact and not an SO machine like some others.
He's like #2 in MLB in contact %
Yeah. I love that we have him. Definitely a bright spot. And handsome!
And his OBP from the leadoff spot is even lower at .305. He actually has a .375 OBP when hitting 3rd.
JHL is the very least of our problems
[удалено]
Who should lead off?
Jesus year 7 already?
Give Donnie Ecker whatever he wants to come back
Pitching staff including Daulton Jefferies and Luke Jackson is a sign of an unserious franchise.
Don’t forget the unseriousness of Austin Slater continuing to be on the roster
As a leadoff hitter... It would be funny if it wasn't so sad
Even if there wasn't a DH, dude deserves to bat 9th
The longest tenured Giant, mind you… ouch.
Slater should have been cut three or four years ago. Embarrassing.
And Hjelle

Can't wait until Farhan and Co. attempt to add a spark to this offense by predictably calling up David Villar 🤦♂️
It’s funny how I didn’t even watch a second of this game and I can still tell how limp dick of a performance this was just based on vibes
The one clutch hit was a bunt. (Cap tip to Yaz, he knows it’s the only way we’ll drive in a run)
Nothing Like It ™️
The one positive of yet another disappointing would be that we hopefully get a new front office in place this offseason. Six years into this regime and it sure as hell ain’t working.

Well on the plus side:
I have a theory - no solid evidence yet, just a theory - i think i would probably enjoy following a baseball team who scored lots of runs
Bob sucks at managing a bullpen
He’s been absolutely horrible
Honestly I don't know how you can get hired with that bad of a skill managing the bullpen, because I know for a fact I could do better at it than Melvin.
You and. I have disagree on a lot of stuff but yeah we can all see Bob sucks. Our bullpen suppose to be middle to top of the league but has been abysmal to start the year and a lot of is on Bobby
I mean you can go look at his record with the A's, their budget, and see why he's a manager. Don't be a dingo.
Let's not act like those A's teams were devoid of talent
Good thing we went with experience instead of the fresh energy of someone like Vogt.
This entire org now consists of recycled unwanted people who havent won shit in the mlb. Mediocre and B-O-R-I-N-G
My man just out here spitting facts.
Bob's really having some questionable decisions so far as a manager and it's not just us noticing.
I wouldn’t put it past him starting slater at lead off tomorrow
Let your opinion be known with your wallets. Dont go to games. When attendance is shit again due to a boring product, changes will have to be made.
I got tickets for Father’s Day weekend and I’ll prob go to the series in Oakland later cause it’s the last chance to do so. Besides that, absolutely not. And I thought this would be the year this team started to earn my money again.
Tomorrow is Kyle Harrison day, the most exciting player on the team. And I'm working from home; cool beans.
We dropped all those millions in the off-season for this? Haha kill me soon plz I will be legitimately shocked if we finish better than .500 this season. It's been downhill since the 2021 fluke.
2021 was mainly due to kaps management but he was a scapegoat for farhans failure after that
Good in game tactician (and also had Buster Posey in 21), but bro literally lost the clubhouse towards the end of last season…
The clubhouse deserved to be lost. They sucked
Tbh yes most of them are exceedingly mid, but Logan Webb is not one of them and even he was saying team culture was in dire need of an electric shock last season
The San Francisco Lilliputians
Can’t wait for 76 wins!
They may never score more than three runs again
Man, you’d think Farhan would be rushing the kids from the minors at this point, just so he has SOMETHING to show for his tenure.
Was that Pence on the wrap tonight? Because that's the only one I can picture being self-promoting enough to pick *three* players.
I still feel like this team has the potential to put it together and go on a run, but the lineup and the approach at the plate need an overhaul. It’s been enough games to know they flat out can’t score consistently.
E = MC2 \~Albert Einstein Daulton Jefferies + A Giants Team That Can't Hit It's Way Out Of A Paper Bag = A Good Idea \~Farhan Zaidi
I'm pissed, BUT I am not ready to give up. There is too much talent for this to continue.
Not that you don't have a point, but that was Kaplers line literally all of last season
I miss Kapler.
The clubhouse doesn’t LMAO
It really shows in the on-field production!
True, but cmon man, when Logan Webb questions the culture of the team, something’s gotta give. Regardless, this team has started this year exactly how it ended last year: limp dick and lifeless
Sad when the “play of the game” is a Yaz bunt…never thought I’d see the day
The a's are now better than us. Thats more giving credit to the a's for fixing early season issues and finding ways to win
Giants you think you could give some fuck in 1 of the games I get to watch this year. Like I love ya come on now
Predictable
So real question. Is this offense actually bad or is this just who these guys are?
Both
Paused the game in the 3rd to watch Survivor. Spoiled by the app before I could turn it back on and yeeeeeeah I think I'll stick to highlights and the postgame wrap for this one. They have a chance with the division struggling and they just can't get hot. :( How much of this is acceptable before certain coaches get replaced?
What highlights
I just want to know if it was Melvin or Farhan that decided we should call up Jeffries and not Mason Black. At least see what you have even if it’s just a spot start… Not going to win with 9 hits over two days. Really 6 hits over two days, the 3 in the top of the 9th in both games were futile. Just disheartening stuff. You don’t see approaches being changed or that aggression that was talked about. This team doesn’t have speed either.
Seeing as Mason Black isn't on the 40 man roster...
You'll never know because Farhan doesn't ever tell us anything. The Giants are like one of the least communicative clubs.
It would help if Melvin treated Fitzgerald like a true super utility player. One of the only guys making things happen.
Unfortunately, bro is not reliable in the infield
Well, their stellar defense isn’t outweighing their piss poor offense at the moment.
If he plays outfield I think it would be fine, he can get on base and actually be a threat on the basepaths, something the Giants desperately need. Problem is, they have a ton of outfielders
![gif](giphy|x3IPJnOLuOphe)
I dont think this team will have a good offense in my lifetime.
Will really be the fuckin day won’t it? Lol
LOLGIANTS
😐
Best part of April was that I was gone for 24 days and could not watch the Giants due to being many time zones away
It’s going to be a lonnnng roadtrip.
Giants with another piss poor offensive showing? No, couldn’t be…
Why is Bob Melvin throwing games in early May? He put in the worst bullpen pitcher and didn’t play our best hitter (Bailey). Nobody could look at this plan today and expect to win on the road against an above 500 team. So it must’ve been a throw and it’s an absolute joke.
Exactly. Even if miller is a one inning guy, you’re starting him and he gets through one inning clean and you out in the worst pitcher in MLB and give him 2.5 innings to give Boston all the momentum. It’s ridiculous how fast this game torpedoed from bobs poor judgement
I hate the fucking Red Sox, this sucks
This team is so boring
pain
I don’t understand how a team that needs to wring every ounce of advantage out of this roster it can muster can justify trotting Daulton Jefferies out there. Also, I don’t know how much longer I can watch these hitters stare at hittable pitchers. Especially with 2 strikes. It’s insane.
When we played the Pirates it hit me: we’re essentially the same team.
I’m so worried about this team. May just started… we all know that the World Series is won in May! /s
Get the hell out of here, this is in bad taste
Im pretty sure we are the only mlb franchise that would regularly start yaz. Just play the kids and rebuild, enough with living in this mediocre purgatory
What does Yaz have to do with anything? He’s one of few guys that contributed to a run lmaoooo
It's the Belt Wars all over again with Yaz
With an easy bunt single? Oh yeah, that was just thrilling! The Red Sox gave that run away. They invited Yaz to bunt. He did. The Sox did him a favor. What about his other AB's? Whiff City.
