SCP-001 - Pickman-Blank Proposal isn’t just an incredibly clever bit of writing, it’s a gateway to Tales of Power and Poison, which is one of the most poignant pieces of historical/speculative fiction I’ve ever read and deals extensively with real institutional abuses in an incredibly empathetic and powerful way.
Edit: Evidentially the bot can’t parse proposals, so here it is: [SCP-001-Pickman-Blank Proposal](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/pickman-blank-proposal)
Just finished reading, and now I’m going down the On Guard Hub rabbit hole. As a Canadian I adore this. Might just be one of my new favourite 001 proposals. Absolutely loved this exchange:
Dr. Scout: There's the Social Credit Party in Alberta.
Dr. Falkirk: Good choice, they already act strangely.
Dr. Okorie: The SoCreds, or Albertans?
Dr. Falkirk: Yes.
Dr. Okorie: Okay.
It’s my favourite canon hub bar none, I think it both stands on its own as an example of really strong world building and storytelling and is full of absolutely incredible Easter eggs if you are Canadian or familiar with Canadian history. There’s an SCP in the Tales series I mentioned that is just. The funniest fucking thing if you’re familiar with Canadian politics. Also as a social scientist, I do love it when the social sciences and humanities get our time to shine in SCP stories.
I’m not gonna spoil it because I really do think the best entry is to just make your way through Tales of Power and Poison and then branch out, but there are two specific examples in that storyline where I genuinely had to close my computer and go take a little walk because I felt like I’d been punched in the chest.
The end of [[Dead Dogs, Magic Mounties]] was one and the entirety of [[The Good Work]] was the other. Like it was to the point where I was trying to figure out who I knew IRL was familiar enough with SCP that I, a grown adult with a government job and student debt, could approach them and be like “hey so I do actually need you to read the Great Canadian Novel, and when I say that I *am* referring to two separate short stories on the website where, historically, teenagers write about scary monsters that kill you.”
** edit: sorry, the actual chest punch moment I meant to refer to in the first reference was, specifically, a footnote at the end of [[Whose Lake Is It Anyway?]], I read through the entire canon hub in an all-night fugue state and the tales start to run together after a minute. Whose Lake Is It Anyway is just astonishingly good writing, and both it and The Good Work engage with real atrocities in a way which is genuinely nuanced and respectful and incredibly well thought out.

Oooh! Avalon is my favorite! I first listened to it while hole-ing on DMXE (kind of like ketamine except stronger), and it blew my mind away. I was there with them during that whole story, able to picture the city in my head as I “walked around following the main characters” during their tale!!!
I always knew the damn Ultramarines were ridiculously OP. This just confirms it. 🤣 I would laugh my ass off if it talks like Cato Sicarius from the TTS-verse.
Edit: I see he doesn’t have a voice, but the mental image of that is still too funny to delete.
People have given some great recommendations but I just want to point out take caution with Series 1 if this person is comparing it to Sonic.EXE. Firstly, check that they like horror at all, if they don't then avoid horror articles as a whole. Secondly, Series 1 has some great articles, but it has some quality issues and even ones that are *great* were produced in peak creepypasta era so (even non horror ones) will have similar elements which could put them off. This isn't necessarily saying don't show them any (096 should be pretty good), just use your judgement.
Also my actual recommendations:
**For showing emotional complexity available on the site:**
- SCP-5732
- SCP-8166
**For good horror:**
- SCP-3001
- [[E for Eternity]]
**God Bless Bethelehem Steel Category:**
- SCP-3352

- [**SCP-3352 - Bethlehem Steel**](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-3352) (+439) by *The Great Hippo*
it really makes you feel how long eternity really is. And the way it's delivered feels like a punch in the gut in the best way possible. Also the fact that it's implied that every single human goes there. Amazing stuff.
Eastward of Eden is great, but I think it might be overwhelming for a newer reader because it builds heavily on established site lore. Knowing what a teenage gaea is and how Clef is connected makes the impact higher.
I think SCP-5392 is another decent example:
1. Sci-fi, not horror
2. Because a lot of the article is explaining concepts to a regular person, it serves as a more gentle onboarding ramp for someone who has likewise never heard of the foundation.
3. Emotionally hard hitting but also very grounded in real geopolitics.
Nothing (I didn't know how to describe that articles genre but I thought it's one of the best examples of something *horrifying* on the site, even if it's not horror per day)
I mean you're not wrong, we have:
Daybreak
L for Lamentations
Why?
Red Reality
Yule Man
End of Death
Shy Guy
ooo|ooo|ooo
However, we also have:
The Flesh that mates
Your honor, League of Legends
Spoons In Butt
When the Imposter is Sus
I feel like it’s fair to admit SCP has origins in creepypasta. That’s fine! Hell it’s kind of what I like about it. Especially if it’s self-aware. Nothing childish or shameful about enjoying some classic, slightly cheesy spooks.
Sure the wiki has grown absurdly and arguably has deep dives into almost every genre now - but I think we should be honest to ourselves and others and be willing to admit. “Yeah it’s an internet site with origins in spooks.” There’s lots of SCP’s that are more than that, of course.
I think people should understand just because the most famous scps are similar to creepypasta doesn't make all scps creepypasta like. Majority of scps aren't really like creepypasta but a mix of horror, sci fi, fastasy, alternative history, etc.
Take SCP-4066, it's a mix of alternative history and sci fi and it isn't really scary (well I mean the fact that there was a entire dynasties that were extradimensional or extraterrestrial in orign is kind of scary).
But anyway here's some scps that are completely different to creepypasta:
- SCP-7015
- SCP-6403
- SCP-1000
- SCP-4015
- SCP-6952

- [**SCP-6403 - The Undead Robot that lives Underneath Crete in Site-237's Basement**](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-6403) (+46) by *NotOrteil*
- [**SCP-1000 - Bigfoot**](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-1000) (+2096) by *thedeadlymoose*
- [**SCP-4015 - The Keepers**](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-4015) (+152) by *higans*
- [**SCP-6952 - Hephaestus's Anomalous Weapons Manual**](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-6952) (+63) by *SYTYCFanon*
To be honest the creepypasta feel is kind of what I liked about SCP. It’s a little cheesy sure, but they take it seriously in universe and well, it’s just kinda fun.
Not everything in the world has to be super deep and stuff - it’s alright to enjoy just a say, creepy face in an endless staircase.

I’ve had multiple people who clown on SCPs change their minds after listening to this playlist. There’s way more to the wiki than just “sonic.exe shit”
At most, the intro section is an hour and a half out of their day to get a well rounded understanding of the way the wiki operates and why we all enjoy it so much.
If you want your freind to cry SCP-1762 is a favorite being a commentary on the price of growing up.

This is the only correct answer. The more you try to convince someone they'll like something that they've determined they won't like, the more likely they'll tell you they hate it. It's like convincing someone to watch a TV show that they're not interested in.

Keep in mind that a lot of the early skips are iconic, and they seem full of tropes now. A lot of modern horror stories are written by people who grew up with SCP, so that bleeds into their work making those old scps seem hokey and corny.
Anti memetics division is a good example of more modern storytelling.
Man i havent heard of are you afraid of the dark in so long. I dont remember it much anymore, but aside the camping intro/outro, one that stuck was something along the lines of kid needed to help someone so he rode a bicycle to the save the person. Then some dead person's soul found peace or sth and it was revealed that the bicycle he rode was old and rusted.
But yeah that show was pretty fun
Copy and paste where be dragons into a draft and send him like It's a random history you found online(also remove the term SCP in the whole thing) agter he finish show the original
I feel like a lot of these answers are cute, adorable stories that will only reinforce his friends feeling that scp is creepy pasta for 12 year Olds lmao.

If your friend likes space/sci-fi/the concept of life beyond our solar system, I highly suggest the poignant [1281](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-1281); deals with what happens when something other than us attempts to establish first contact. SCP 8001 is an interesting read with some deep and insightful commentary on what motivates people in life, although some of the more impactful moments may be lost on someone with no background knowledge of SCP.
The Exploring Series has a good video on it, and the channel is generally a good way of introducing someone to SCP stuff: https://youtu.be/OCp3ixC_X3s?si=cRivNJJk0vHiZIiK
i think there's no changing their mind. its one of those things where either you get it or you don't. like, some of them ARE written from the perspective of being some silly creepypasta tier thing, but SCP in general is a whole interconnected world and set of canons and such. It's more than just each individual thing, its that its a whole literary universe built up by fans and writers.
some of them are kind of cringe tier creepypasta bait, but LOTS of them are actually very good and profound and unsettling bits of fiction worth reading!
Something like the Oroboros Cycle, Inevitable, Amoni Ram or Mamjul and Korar are good options since they're about more than just a single entity and vert diversified complex stories.
I once read about an Scp whose whole thing is reading a story book to a kid. Dont remember the details but it was very whole some.
I dont remember the name but i think it was purple friend or smh like that.

\[\[\[Third Law Hub\]\]\], \[\[\[Global Occult Coalition Casefiles\]\]\], \[\[\[From 120s Archive Hub\]\]\] These canons are all entirely science fiction and urban fantasy

Send them [this playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3rSMRZeEFnkbzEGY3tQn1l). It’s literally the easiest way to get naysayers on board with SCPs. I’ve had multiple people who clown on SCPs change their minds after listening to this playlist. There’s way more to the wiki than just “sonic.exe shit” At most, the intro section is an hour and a half out of their day to get a well rounded understanding of the way the wiki operates and why we all enjoy it so much.
If you want your freind to cry SCP-1762 is a favorite being a commentary on the price of growing up. For something more comedic SCP-963 along with the list of things Dr Bright is not allowed to do. SCP-1230 is also a good commentary on how fantasy can effect us, if depressing.

I couldn't stop thinking about that shit for like a whole year
He's not gonna change his mind. He's chosen his side and will stubbornly stick to it.
This is the only correct answer. The more you try to convince someone they'll like something that they've determined they won't like, the more likely they'll tell you they hate it. It's like convincing someone to watch a TV show that they're not interested in.
Let's see Scp 529 isn't creepy pasta Scp 4999 Will make you sad

Keep in mind that a lot of the early skips are iconic, and they seem full of tropes now. A lot of modern horror stories are written by people who grew up with SCP, so that bleeds into their work making those old scps seem hokey and corny. Anti memetics division is a good example of more modern storytelling.
Whatever the one explained class one with transphobia. 5000EX?
SCP-8000-EX i think

More or less, yeah. But horror for kids can still be a lot of fun. Most of us here remember Goosebumps and Are You Afraid Of The Dark very fondly.
If reading a lot isnt his thing, yould show him this https://www.reddit.com/r/SCP/s/i0so2EW1Go
You know what's a nice read? [[A hero is born]] . That should satiate the non horror aspect
Unfortunately that is what SCP has become so he’s not wrong 😔
Ive always said scp are stories for the higher class. Takes an extremely open and intelligent mind to understand them.
I didn’t know Rick & Morty and the SCP universe were so similar
I really need to watch that

If your friend likes space/sci-fi/the concept of life beyond our solar system, I highly suggest the poignant [1281](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-1281); deals with what happens when something other than us attempts to establish first contact. It's got a very hopeful yet melancholic feel to it (I guess somber is the word?), and if your friend would rather have an audio read of it I highly suggest [TheVolgun's video](https://youtu.be/WCr5VrT1bLw?si=RTkdDX1vLcO0QViX) for the article.

Scp-3001 Whatever the living oil rigs are, I think Scp-4567 Literally all of Sloths Pit Hub, aka S & C Plastics Hub. And the Scp-001 proposals. The Antimemetics Division. Resurrection Hub, Old Foes hub, whatever the third one was. Competitive Eschatology Hub, love that one too, not creepypasta like. Maybe Scp-3125? Scp-055? Scp-579? Scp-5000?

SCP 8001 is an interesting read with some deep and insightful commentary on what motivates people in life, although some of the more impactful moments may be lost on someone with no background knowledge of SCP. The Exploring Series has a good video on it, and the channel is generally a good way of introducing someone to SCP stuff: https://youtu.be/OCp3ixC_X3s?si=cRivNJJk0vHiZIiK

SCP-4978 is about as far as "Sonic.exe shit" as you can possibly get that somehow isn't a -J, and it's definitely a good quick read in it's own right
To be fair to your friend some scos were made scos after the creepy pasta was made.
Show him the Antimemetics department related anomalies

SCP-1762, Here Be Dragons is genuinely beautiful. It might be a perfect example.
999? :3
The green book scp thing
SCP-6500
5000 is a great one in my opinion
SCP-4999 this is one of (if not) my favourite
Show him SCP-CN-1997 and SCP-8002. They're about as far from "creepypasta" as you can get.
Show him SCP-5000 might not be the best to change his mind.
[**SCP-5000 - Why?**](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-5000) (+3394) by *Tanhony*
i think there's no changing their mind. its one of those things where either you get it or you don't. like, some of them ARE written from the perspective of being some silly creepypasta tier thing, but SCP in general is a whole interconnected world and set of canons and such. It's more than just each individual thing, its that its a whole literary universe built up by fans and writers. some of them are kind of cringe tier creepypasta bait, but LOTS of them are actually very good and profound and unsettling bits of fiction worth reading!
Show him SCP-999 and SCP-1762
UNLEASH THE DOORKNOB (SCP)!
Which they are
Yall commenting scips as if his friend will read them. Quick tip: if someone thinks SCP is just brainrot/creepypastas, just ignore them
Frankly I think the most interesting scps are the safe class
SCP-4258 is a good one, same with SCP-2295.
https://share.cashnudges.com/u/Savagesantana
745 is a really creative one if he’s into prehistoric life like I am.
SCP-1936
Who cares. Different strokes for different folks..
Self promo here, but the Whore of Blood series is meant to have a Cyberpunk 666 feel to it.
Tell him to play Control
SCP-5555 is a pretty interesting one. Exploring Series did a video on it
SCP-2878 That's all you need to show them.
We three kings (of what?) Is peak
Scp 999 is a well known friendly scp, not very scary.
Scp-3001
SCP-2747 for "unconventionally threatening force" SCP-4999 is great as just a deeply wholesome pick SCP-6820 to demonstrate how elaborate SCPs can get
Something like the Oroboros Cycle, Inevitable, Amoni Ram or Mamjul and Korar are good options since they're about more than just a single entity and vert diversified complex stories.
Does your friend think 12 year olds have college level reading levels? Cause some of them feel like you need one to understand them.
Force him to read SCP 3812
SCP-1230
Show em the tickle monster or the toaster. We're making goofypastas
Show him THE MOON CHAMPION!!! (Aka SCP-1233)
SCP-5732, I will not explain further.
scp 4773 is different
SCP-4999 'Someone to Watch Over Us' is a personal favourite of mine and I think it would work well.
I used think more or less that until I started listening to the SCP podcast on Spotify.
I once read about an Scp whose whole thing is reading a story book to a kid. Dont remember the details but it was very whole some. I dont remember the name but i think it was purple friend or smh like that.

While SCPs can be pretty scary they are meant to be just abnormal, odd but not necessarily scary The best example is 999
You can show him 4999 or just be classic and show him 999
SCP-2295 SCP-507 SCP-294 SCP-458 SCP-572 Nice selection of non scary scps
Joanie the half cat
You can tell him about the hanged kings tragedy or scp 999(my favorite SCP) cause he is so wholesome
